The garden is organized into themed sections with pathways to follow to take you through the different garden areas. There is the Japanese Garden, the Butterfly Garden, the Children's Garden, and the Rose Garden, to name a few. Each visit is a little different, depending on the time of year and what is in bloom. On this visit, I was amazed by all the different dahlias, the beautiful roses, and the whimsical rock garden populated by gnomes.

Even at the start of winter the pond and ducks are a relaxing and calm sight to see. I imagine in the spring when everything is in foliage, it's more crowded. Still didn't see any restrooms. Only had a short time to explore, but look forward to seeing the many hiking trails it offers.

That being said, this park, albeit somewhat primitive (just not fancy), is really nice. The grounds keepers do a nice job keeping up with the mowing and pruning. The path on the far side of the park leads down to the water and gives you a great vantage point of where the North and South Umpqua rivers run together prior to becoming the Umpqua and heading out to the pacific ocean. The setting here provided for some nice back drops for some pictures with family. Unless you are planning a picnic or something your trip here probably won't take exceptionally long, but it's well worth the few minute drive to get here and check it out.

Conveniently located right across the street from my house, Lawnridge Park is a jewell. A full…read morebasketball court (on the Lawnridge Ave. side of the park) where you can find a pick-up game almost any day of the week, and host to charity tournaments during the year, well lit for evening play during the darker months. A tennis court, also on the Lawnridge side of the park. A gazebo for parties, plenty of lush green grass for the kiddies and furry friends to run around on. Big shade trees and a small playground. This park is about 1/2 a city block in size and just perfect for a neighborhood park. I like that the B-Ball and Tennis Courts are on the other side of the park ... cuts down on the noise but you still know when the game is on. The gazebo may be reserved for special occasions but I never do. I just take it over! A very well maintained park, the garbage cans are never overflowing, the bathrooms are clean and stocked, the grass cut at least once a week and watered every night between 11:30 - 1:00 a.m. The sound of sprinklers is not quite the same as the sound of the ocean but, I still fall asleep.

We ended up lingering quite a while with the lions and bears since they were just so fascinating to watch. Also the kids made a playlist for each animal. It was cute and fun. The drive-through safari was definitely a highlight. It was exciting to see the animals up close, and they all seemed happy and well cared for, which made the experience even better. Getting to feed some of the animals added an extra layer of fun, and of course, our youngest completely fell in love with the camels. Being able to get so close to them absolutely made their day. It was one of those outings everyone enjoyed, and we're already talking about when we can go back! It's been a week and a half and they still won't quit talking about it!

One was off leash and interrupted our picnic several times. I finally had to ask the host to call his dog. It was friendly, but I didn't want an unknown pit in my two year old's face.
