Lava Island is an experience. An expensive one at that. The concept is fun for kids and its huge but its chaotic, there is no calmness and if you blink you might lose your kid. We were there for a party and you check in at the front. They tally up how many ppl check in then you'll find out how much you owe later. They have carts for gifts if you reserved a room, which this party did. Once in the themed room (each room is different) you get pizza, water and lemonade. You get an hour of play, an hour in the room, another hour of play. It was fun to check out but I feel it needs to be organized more. read more

For ANYONE considering having a children's Bday party at LAVA ISLAND (Rock Hill, MO), DONT! Lava Island in Rock Hill sells you a very specific picture: "Party Planning Made Simple." A stress-free, mess-free, fully supported celebration where you can actually be present for your child. That is not what I experienced. I hosted a birthday party for my 9-year-old here, and while the facility itself was clean and visually appealing, the reality of the "hosted party" experience was the complete opposite of what's advertised. Because they charge for every adult, I was the only parent present for a drop-off party of around 20 children. That alone should signal the level of support needed--but there was virtually none. I served the pizza. I poured the drinks. I cut the cake. I handed it out to every child. All while trying to manage a room full of excited kids by myself. And in doing so, I missed something I have never missed before as a parent: my child blowing out their birthday candles. No photo. No moment. Just me, working. What makes this even more frustrating is that their own website sets a completely different expectation. It highlights a smooth, guided experience, mentions cake supplies and candles being ready, and presents this as a seamless celebration. Yet nowhere is it clearly stated that staff will not assist with something as central as serving the cake. I wasn't given candles either--thankfully I brought my own. When I asked about it, I was told staff are not allowed to handle cakes due to liability concerns. That may protect the business, but it completely defeats the purpose of booking a "hosted" party. To be fair, our Party Lead, Cole, was kind and seemed genuinely concerned, even bringing us ice water. He was not the problem--he was simply limited by policy. After the party, I spent nearly an hour speaking with both the manager and the General Manager, trying to explain how stressful and disappointing the experience had been. I wasn't looking for an argument--I was looking for acknowledgment and some form of resolution after paying a premium price and effectively running the entire party myself. The response I received was just as disappointing as the experience itself. The General Manager stated he "failed to see how they didn't deliver." And when I pressed further, asking if there would be any resolution, he stepped back and asked, "Are you blackmailing us?" Despite that, I still closed out my bill and even tipped our Party Lead, because he showed more professionalism and empathy than the management did. As a single parent, I paid a significant amount of money expecting support so I could enjoy my child's birthday. Instead, I ended up hosting 20 children alone in a rented room. The kids had fun--but that's not the standard. The standard is the experience you promise the parent who is paying. And this did not deliver. I would strongly caution other parents: if you book here, go in expecting to do everything yourself. Lava Island is standing out as one of the best indoor kids' play places we've visited! I've been to several similar spots, and this place easily has 3x the amount of jungle gym and play equipment. The layout is huge, with so much for kids to explore, climb, and burn off energy. The trampoline area was a good add on, it honestly feels like a mix between a kids' adventure park and a trampoline park all in one. The birthday party rooms were some of the coolest I've seen. The themed rooms are adorable, and the glow party rooms with the giant birthday throne chair really make celebrations feel extra special. Another thing that impressed me was the food. Most places like this usually offer basic pizza, popcorn, and soda, but Lava Island has a much more elevated menu. They offer smoothies, milkshakes, wings, mozzarella sticks, funnel cake sticks, burgers, fries, pizza, and more, so there are plenty of options for both kids and adults. A special shoutout to Trish at the concession counter! She was incredibly sweet, friendly, and fast with our orders. She stayed on top of everything and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our visit. Wow, what a fun place. I must say I didn't expect this place to be so huge and down right fun. There is a large playground, trampoline park and even a soft play area for the toddlers. I was so excited to try Lava Island for the first time and we came for a birthday party. The space is huge with tons of space for kids to play on which is good since it's packed full of children. The party room was nice and the staff checked in frequently. However, the play area itself had little staff to be found. I'm big on safety and I had a hard time finding anyone who was monitoring equipment. I am also big on cleanliness and I only saw one girl wiping anything down and I had a hard time finding hand sanitizer after my daughter was done playing. I finally found a bottle by the cubbies way at the front but there really should be stations nearby when the kids are all touching everything. I had heard a lot of talk about the pricing structure prior to attending and I can see what this issue is with charging parents. Very few parents were actually on the equipment, most were watching their kids like myself. Still charging each parent $11 makes a family outing for 4 people nearly $70 when only two kids are playing. That's pretty unaffordable when you're considering indoor play options on a day off. It's definitely a premium play area, but other businesses utilize observer wristbands to designate adults there to supervise not play. read more

We got invited to a birthday party at Lava Island and I gotta say... go early. There is SO much for the kids to do, they stayed busy the whole time. They even have a separate area for the babies, which I really appreciated. I also loved that they have cubbies for shoes and coats -- super convenient. The themed birthday rooms were really nice and the black lights were a hit I didn't try any of the food, but they do have a limited menu. This review is really hard to write because if it was for my kids point of view, it would be 15 stars. But since I am the adult here, I'm only gonna give it four. It is indeed massive. It was fun to watch my children jump around and although we hand sanitized every second (of course this isn't the business fault that just happens in winter) but both my kids got sick three days later, the perfect incubation period for every illness herein St. Louis. Because my Instagram algorithm feed me a bunch of parenting activities, Lava Island popped up as I was doom scrolling. I've been to handful of indoor playground in St. Louis, which are really good to have in the backpocket when the kids need to get their energy out (which for my youngest seems to be everyday). Lava Island opened up a week or so ago, and it looked promising, but you can never tell until you actually visit. The kids and I decided to venture to the new indoor playground to check it out. We went on a Saturday right when it opened at 9am. Because bullet points are easier to read here's my bulleted list. Things I liked: - Free Wifi for when you need to let the kids run free and you need to work - 6 individual family bathrooms - Shoes off right after you check in, that means the dining area, play area, and bathrooms are socks only - This place is huge. Probably the largest indoor playground in St. Louis - Huge trampoline area with lots of foam pit areas to tire the kids and adults out - Place is so big, when it still doesn't feel like it's that busy - Food area with typical kid items kids like (French fries, pizza, etc.), there's coffee too for adults - The place is super clean, but maybe that's because it's new, hopefully it'll stay clean - Multiple party rooms for birthday parties - Separate younger kids playground area - If you buy an all day pass, you can come back again any time in the day as long as you keep your wristband on - There's an option for 1 hour passes, which is nice for families with younger kiddos Things I wish were different - Everyone that enters has to pay, even adults that aren't playing. - I wish we could bring outside food, but this isn't allowed due to health codes, which is understandable My kids and I really enjoyed our time at Lava Island, definitely a place to check out if you have kids! read more

My daughter had the best 3rd birthday party at Lava Island. She celebrated with her family in a private room & had 2 hours of play! She loved the large play area with a basketball & foam pit. Have come twice to play and one time for A birthday party. Definitely big with lots of stuff for active kids. Bathrooms were dirty. Food was not good, overpriced, and wasn't worth the wait. Not enough staff, especially in areas that need supervision. Dirty. Kids got sick each time we visited. Overall it is overpriced and not worth it. FYI - if you are looking to book a birthday party, it isn't worth it. The only reason it was fun for my kid to attend was because the birthday kid's mom loves to do stuff herself. read more

Much more expansive than any other indoor playground we've been to. - there are several private family restrooms. - it was clean- but likely because it was new. - my kiddo liked it. New things she hasn't seen before. Things I did not like: - there was no way to keep someone from walking off with your kid. The exit didn't have any staff or any process in place for ensuring kids were exiting with their actual parent. - they were massively understaffed. There had to be 200 people during our visit and one person taking cafe orders. After 30 minutes of standing in line for a bottle of water, I finally walked away with four groups still in front of me. - while the individual family rooms were great, they were packed and the regular restroom only had three stalls with quite the line. - water. I'm visibly pregnant and that cafe line was crazy- I asked a manager behind the counter for an empty cup and her let me know I could purchase a bottle of water or use the water fountain. This is well beyond ridiculous considering adult admission is $11 and I was obviously winded. - seating. There are quite a few tables in the cafe, but not enough to accommodate the number of families there. There's also not a lot of seating for parents to be able to keep an eye on their kids. - capacity. There really should be a cap on how many people can COMFORTABLY use the space. No seating, lines, wait times- they really should consider the experience before continuing to take money and admit people in. - cubbies. They have cubbies at the front for belongings, but no staff tending to them. Not even an attempt at security for those items. I saw a few kids rummaging through cubbies trying to find their things. - staff in the play areas. There are trampolines, foam pits, obstacle courses, massive slides, and I only ever saw one staff member. This made for some chaos with older kids pushing past younger kids, rules not being enforced... - pricing. $22 for an all day kid pass (over 11 months) and $11 for each adult regardless of equipment use. That is quite a penny especially if you have more than one kid- and due to lack of security and staff, you definitely need a parent for each kid. I really really REALLY wanted to like the place. We were scoping for an upcoming party, but it just isn't managed very well for anything other than a profit. read more

There is no where near enough seating for adults. They are way understaffed and open cubicles to put shoes coats and other belongings are left unattended. We have been to several competitors and none of these issues exist. Unfortunately, my wife only had one review to go off of and of course it was glowing. first I will start that it is a great place for kids to play inside, its clean, its huge, kiddos wont get bored. however, they do not allow outdoor drinks or food, ok. my husband waited in line for 30 minutes, with stil 16 people in front of him. my children were thirsty, I asked for a cup for just water, they told me there were no cups to give out, that we had to wait in line to buy a bottle of water. Only one person taking orders. the line was 30 people deep at all times, and moved extremely slow. very disappointed with how the cafe is ran. if you plan to come, eat before, bring your own water bottle. im not sure we will be back. read more
