Not a positive and relaxing pedicure experience. SCENE It's clean and they have a ton of fashionable shoes that you can shop. Also, they provide waxing service which is a major plus in my book. Although the prices looked fair, I didn't get the chance to try the actual services out. I really liked the cashiers eyebrows and she said she had them done here. If I hadn't hated my pedi experience, I would have tried the wax services PEDI They had decent selection of colors, and the chairs were elevated with cushions for a comfy experience. I had two appointments to discuss some business with a colleague and we sat comfortably next to each other. The water was warm and nice but the two women doing our pedicures seemed very unhappy about doing them - perhaps because we were the last of the day? I really don't know.... So, my unhappiness began when I heard my colleague screech after the woman pushed her cuticle into her skin. I asked if she was ok but the woman doing her pedicure didn't even acknowledge the injury. Then, my colleague had a massage maybe 2 full minutes shorter than mine, which made her feel like she'd done something wrong. All of this didn't bother me as much as having a luke-warm towel rubbed on my legs when I could clearly see my colleague's towel was steaming. I actually mentioned the difference stating that I would like a warm towel, but both ladies ignored me. Instead they said something to each other in a language I do not understand. The icing on the cake when a staff member started mopping with a harsh smelling chemical. My colleague explained she needed to step out for a minute, to get some air, because she started having a reaction to the mopping. When my colleague went to pay, a woman literally ran that same mop over her foot. So I won't be back. I should have consulted Yelp first because the other reviews speak to similar unhappy experiences. Instead, I let my colleague pick and she agreed - worst pedi experience ever. They abused my nails! I went here for a shellac manicure. I called at lunch and said their only apt was at 6pm. I had an event the next day and I needed my nails looking good for it, so I took the late apt. From the start, I felt rushed. She was rushing through soaking the shellac off, so she just spent extra time scraping it off my nails. I mentioned numerous times that she was hurting me. She said it was fine and kept going. When she was trimming my already trimmed cuticles, she kept stabbing me with the scissors. I bled on 6/10 fingers. When it came to the polish she rushed that as well. She had to redo 4 of them and had to file those down again as well. She rushed painting them again, and smudged my thumb. By this point I told her to leave it, my nails couldn't take any more abuse. I left having paid 35 dollars to be tortured. My nails look awful, and one of them is now infected. I uploaded a pic of the damage to just ONE of my hands. I'm a nurse, and having cuts on my hands is hazardous. I will NOT be going back, and I recommend you don't either. read more

Rude front desk girl- won't even look up at you when you are asking a question- we were walk ins, so I understand that we might have to wait but.... not looking up and saying, well we have appointments then silence for an awkward 15 seconds is just wrong.. we just looked at her and said "so yes?" 2. Nail techs were rude and talking about us in their native tongue ( friend speaks although you would never guess) 3. She took literally 13 minutes to do my feet- really? 4. I am a licensed nail tech, I understand cleanliness above all. I'm visiting this location because until my salon opens I need to send my loving loyal clients to get pedicures. So far.... This place is clean. That should always be the most important part clients should pay attention to. They use new files and pumice per person and toss the files and buffers. As for the service, I don't like cuticles being cut, it's simply not necessary unless extreme circumstances. Since I maintain my cuticles (push them back in the shower ladies, makes a huge difference!) They did pay close attention to filing, shaping and buffing the natural nail. The massage was with hot oil, slightly too hot at first, but felt awesome! (I miss that lol, not fun doing yourself) steamed towels to remove oil is a plus. For the polish application, I did bring my own because I have a collection of over 300 professional polishes, I am fairly picky lol. The polish did go somewhat into my cuticle on my left big toe, but was cleaned up in the particular way I like my polish to be applied. The only reason I cannot give a higher rating is because they did not engage conversation with us, but spoke with each other, not in English. That has always been a problem for me. Overall I would recommend this place to my clients. It was a good experience. An added note, I did book an appointment at 10am and arrived 5 minutes early. They took us promptly. Sorry Lavande - I think I need to find a new place. Your employee today spent about 25 minutes on my pedicure. It was rushed, sloppy, and she kept trying to upsell me extra foot massage (no thanks, so I can pay more money for a decent amount of time on my feet?). She kept turning around to talk to a co-worker and would stop what she was doing (this was within my brief 25 minutes). By the way - the place was empty when I arrived. It's not like it was busy - so you don't have that excuse for the rush. My toenails looked like they had been chewed on after she did the polish. I pointed out to her that she needed to clean things up. She expected more than the 20% tip, which was offensive. This is the worst nail salon I've ever been too. Their fancy store front is completely deceiving. There are finger nails all over the ground and all of their furniture is stained. I got a gel mani and regular pedi and it hurt when they both did them because they move so fast and tear off cuticles and have long nails that poke your skin. They didn't even scrape under my nails so I left with them still looking a bit dirty and with inflamed cuticles. Also, they have the smallest gel nail color selection. Awful awful awful. I am a licensed cosmetologist who has been trained in hair, skin and nails and am a high end service provider. I came in today to get my acrylic set soaked off, which my good nail salon in Petaluma always does for me. This woman (didn't get her name) insisted to nip off my acrylic set, destroying the nail beds and causing me pain. I told her to soak them off to avoid further pain and damage, to which she replied "we don't do that here, that's impossible." She is either misinformed and uneducated, or careless and lazy. Probably both! Don't trust these amateurs with your nails. Didn't let her finish, didn't even pay. This salon is a joke! There is another nail salon in the shopping center that is better. This business is dishonest. Learn from my experience and take your money elsewhere. Bought a $41 mani-pedi certificate as a gift for a friend. When she came in to use it, she was told it was for a manicure only. As I was about to throw the receipt out I asked how she liked her mani-pedi and she told me what happend, so it's random that I even found this out. When I called Lavande, a nice woman said she'd have the manager call me back. Natasha called very quickly, which I appreciated. My request was that they honor the mani-pedi, since that was the gift I bought and not honoring it by providing the service that was pre-paid was their error. She wouldn't commit to anything until she could "document" the appointment that my friend made - as though they offer a $41 manicure. When I asked her to tell me how they would handle the situation, assuming of course that she could verify everything I was telling her, she talked over me and told me I was being insulting. So I paid them for something they didn't deliver and when I called and asked them to make good on it they said, basically, "we're not sure"? Not a very customer-focused business. I won't be back. UPDATE as of 7/9: I have called the salon 4 times, and my daughter has called once, to ask them to provide the mani-pedi that I originally purchased. On each time, they have refused. On my last call I was told by the manager, Naomi: "Maybe you should come in with your daughter so she can learn to ask for what she wants." She did and was told by Lavande that the $41 gift certificate was only good for a manicure. If I hadn't called, they would have kept the $27 difference. The owner is rarely in and the 2 managers I spoke to clearly don't give a darned about customer service or business ethics. I don't even want to spend the credit there - will just get the balance refunded. Just go to K&K in Tam Junction. Kitty and her partner are so awesome and do much for their community. I used to come here when it first opened. I used to rave about this place. As time went on, the quality definitely went south. I found another fantastic place in Mill Valley (see my other reviews). All was good in my pedicure world. Well, my usual place was closed on Sunday so I decided to give Lavande another shot. Wow - bad idea. The entire pedicure was okay. -Before he began, I noticed that the blue steralization bag that the tools come in was not closed. When I asked about it, he said he doesn't bother closing them because it was more work. I asked again to make sure they are clean and sterile. He assured me they were. Then I noticed two other pedicures on either side of me with sealed bags of tools. Hmm. Great. -Horrible polish job. Requested the receptionist to check it out and have it redone. She reluctantly agreed that it was sloppy. I agreed to wait another 10 minutes to have another pedicurist (word?) repaint. The entire thing was awkward and made me feel horrible that I even asked. When I say sloppy, there was no way I was paying money for a job that looked like my 12-yr old self did it. The other person redid it and it is fine. Not great, just fine. I really believe that there are good people here because there were customers that left happy. However, it really depends on who you get. Unfortunately, there seems to be no manager-esque person on duty should you have an issue...just those poor young girls at the receptionist counter who do not know how to empathize and smooth out a customer situation. Go somewhere else or request a specific person there that you trust. I don't care about the cute shoes or clothes. Just give me a great pedicure. Shouldn't be as difficult as that. read more

My friend treated me to a mani/pedi here today and the experience was not all that good. First of all the women working on the nails talk all the time amongst them, not in a soft quiet voice, but in a very loud voice and across several seats. I personally like to relax when i get a mani/ pedi and have a conversation with my friends. The women were rude, they don't speak to you instead they tap (non gently) on your leg or arm and point to the water when they want you to put your foot and hand in/ out of the water. That's just not right! The mani pedi are done so quickly and therefore it doesn't turn out all that nicely. It is not a race, they should take their time and do a nice job. My feet got barely rubbed or massaged. The woman that did my hands was the rudest, she did my hands super quickly and i noticed that only the cuticle on the sides was cut and i asked if she could do the bottom since i had some skin. She grabbed the cuticle pusher tool and she literally scraped my nails super hard to the point that it hurt. First nail, i let it go, 2nd nail i let it go, by the 3rd nail i asked her to stop since it was hurting and she started to laugh and kept talking in Vietnamese with the lady doing my feet... I couldn't believe how rude this woman was. I can see an indent on the nails from when she scraped my nails. There are so many places in Marin and the city to go get my nails done that I know for sure that i won't be back! Hopefully the owner takes feedback seriously and starts providing clients with better service and has a staff that is actually kind and respectful of clients and understand that they are in their workplace and shouldn't be having loud conversations with the rest of the staff. read more

This location is clean and comfortable which I like. I also have a scar on my foot, and one other thing I noted was how careful she was to avoid scrubbing it, which I really did appreciate. However, I thought the overall experience was less than ideal. While I was getting my fingers and toes done, everyone I saw who worked here looks dismayed and annoyed. The woman doing my fingers rushed, made me feel bad about the way my fingers looked and didn't fully take off the nail polish I already had on. She took a heated towel out long before planning to use it, so when she did use it, it was more damp than warm. While I was here five workers got into a heated argument, making me uncomfortable. When my fingers were drying I picked up my phone and I was told in a harsh tone not to smudge them. They opened about a month ago. It's a lot like the other ones in the chain. I think when I went, they were still trying to figure out the kinks in terms of timing and who was going to work with whom. I got a spa manicure, spa pedicure, and some lip and brow wax. $60. I thought it was kinda cheap. The lady doing my nails mentioned that it seemed expensive. Probably the nicest smelling store I've ever been to in my life. If this is what all nail salons smell like, then sign me up! Lavande has come highly recommended to me by a few close friends. And when I need to get something for a lady friend's bday, graduation, or baby shower - a manicure/pedicure gift certificate from Lavande is always a winner. After all, what woman doesn't love a little TLC for her nails and skin? They have a variety of mani/pedi treatments. Though to be honest (because I'm a dumb guy), they all kind of sound the same to me. In any case, I usually wind up paying $20-$25 bucks for a mani certificate, and I always wind up being a real thoughtful sweetheart. Needless to say, if ain't broke, why fix it? This place is so filthy, I don't even know where to start. None of the instruments came out of sanitization bags, the technician took the towel with of nail clippings and just shook it off on the ground besides her. I wish it stopped there but the staff was rude, my technician cut my skin raw and when I flinched from the pain of cutting my thumb- she didn't even apologize, she actually tried to cut off more! I'm hoping I don't get an infection from this dirty dirty place, in retrospect I should have looked for their license as I cannot imagine this place passing a health inspection! read more

I went at lunch time today for a mani and it was just perfect. A very nice experience. Sunny is the name of the lady that did my mani and she took her time and did a fantastic job. Ahhhhhhh the smells of the lotions and potions... the massage of any mani is always my favorite and her massage included the full arm right up to the shoulder. It was a 45 min expereince and since I upgraded I paid $18. The normal mani is $12. I'll be happy to see how long the polish lasts... if I can keep it in tack until next Monday then they have a customer for life. read more

My experience was not as great as last time. The technician who did the pedicure was superb (Wendy?) but the lady who did the French manicure could be way better. When the top coat was applied I saw green glitter polish (from a previous client - gross) and I made her redo two nails. She couldn't see what was wrong and made another colleague check my nails (to make sure there was something wrong) before re-painting them. The white tips are not well painted - most of the nail bed corners and tips are missing white polish so it looked uneven. My right thumbnail had a thick layer of white polish so it looked really gloopy. If I was really being difficult I'd make them re-do the entire mani. Even my S.O. noticed and he's not a metro at all. My right index nail chipped in less than 2 days and the middle nail chipped within 4 days. I didn't even do anything that would chip them, like washing dishes without gloves. So not worth it. Okay Marin, you may have gotten me here. I was pretty sure I was not going to find an affordable *good* pedicure with nice seating anywhere... I'm happy to report I've been proven wrong. Lavande, while a little strangely appointed on the inside (nail salon + cheapie boutique??) and a somewhat standoffish receptionist, was a lovely experience - made possible by the excellent nail tech, Jack. He made sure the water was hot enough to my liking, did a great (and gentle) job on cleaning up my unkempt toes, and he gives a good massage. What more could you ask for? Maybe that he work in a place where there isn't a strange boutique in the middle of the floor. But I think I can overlook that. The signature pedicure is nice and surprisingly affordable - the usual procedures plus a lavender salt scrub followed by a hot towel wash wrap. All this for 26 bucks?? I was not impressed. Actually that is generous. This was not a good experience at all. It took a long time to get an appointment and when we showed up and wanted to change the exact treatment we wanted they huffed and puffed (a regular manicure to a French for example). They acted as though it was a huge inconvenience and if I wasn't with someone else I probably would have walked out. They were clean and a nice location but that is where the good experience ended. My friend got a French manicure and had to tell the manicurist 3 times that 3 of her nails were messed up! Even after we walked out it looked like there were gaps in the white tip over many of her nails. I got a gel manicure. The manicure itself looks ok, but I had the beginning on a hangnail and she made it soooo much worse (see picture). She kept making it bleed and then spraying alcohol on it --- ouch! She also filed my nails down way too short!! Painfully short. I would spend your 35 dollars for a gel manicure somewhere else. Dreadful experience! I was looking forward to a pedicure and relaxing. Made a specific appointment and traveled early to keep it (from San Rafael to Mill Valley was on time and was met with staff tardiness (I went to La Boulange (delish place for coffee) returned and was still waiting while other customers moved forward. Twenty minutes later I was still at the front desk and unfortunately overheard what seemed like an internal disagreement as to who would implement service. Comment from manager to staff member, "don't you want to take this?" Imagine how this makes someone feel. I would suggest something is seriously out-of-wack with the business and will not return. read more

I have really tried to like this place and give it a chance. The atmosphere is nice and the location is convenient, however the manicures do not last! I just had a simple pedicure here with some family. It was an unexpected experience -- couches! Pillows! Shopping! Calf massage? I am truly not fussy when it comes to the atmosphere of a salon. Lavande was, from the outside, a clothing boutique -- thank the goddess for signs on the windows advertising bikini waxes or I would have missed the place. Around the center of the front room, which is actually just racks of clothing, are high booths with cushions, pillows, and sinks to dip your feet into while the manicurist works below you. Different -- very different -- hardly an intimate affair but comfortable, relatively relaxing, and absolutely satisfactory service. It's really a place for social treatments -- I would never come here to get a service by myself. Unless, of course, I took them up on their bikini wax advertisements. Worst experience I've had so far, the front desk staff was so nice and helpful but the rest of the experience seemed like a bad joke. First off the nail ladies are rude, do not listen to your requests, such as asking for your nails to dry before applying the next coat. She just grabbed my hand and kept going. All their equipment was old and outdated for both gels and acrylics. Minimal color options for gel. Blatantly talking negativity about you to other coworkers in another language. I just recently moved from the city to Marin, and was looking for a great place to get my nails done on a Sunday. I looked on Yelp, and found these guys. I called to make an appointment, and the woman on the phone was so caustic, that I felt like I was better off searching for another place. When I asked if they took appointments she answered me like I had just asked the stupidest question on the planet. I said I would call back. I ended up later in the day near their salon, and I figured since I had read some good reviews, maybe I should just check it out first hand. I thought maybe being there "in person" was perhaps a better experience. Whoa - was I wrong. When I walked in, I was taken by how cozy the salon looked, and was hopeful that maybe my phone experience was just an isolated incident. I walked up to the counter, and the short woman with long dark hair(and too much makeup) working the counter/phone/reservations was so consumed with screaming at another employee, that I stood there for about 5 minutes, without so much as a glance in my direction. There is no way she didn't see me there. I was like 1 foot from her. It was so much negative energy that I couldn't stay another minute. I have no idea how their manicure/pedicures are. After moving here from SF, where i am a BIG fan of SILK on Franklin for mani and pedis....i was relieved to find Lavende so that i had an option in Marin on the weekends. I still prefer SILK, i think they are the best, but Lavande really impressed me. The two pedis i have received from them were enjoyable and very long lasting. The bank seating within the boutique atmosphere is great, and the foot massage was thorough and deep. The front desk service was a bit disjointed both times i went, the employees seemed overwhelmed with the computer scheduling and check-in process, combined with the management of which employee was working on which client made the front desk folks not too smiley with the clients. I felt like maybe the computer was slow and bogging them down, they seemed stressed out....whatever the problem, i had to be very patient to check in and check out....this was tolerable considering the alternatives in Marin. They could use more, and easier access to, magazines. All in all, I think the best place in Marin area! Go try them out... read more

I WISH I could write a stellar review as I'd love to have a "got-to" place I can always count on somewhere in Marin (Emma's in SF on Geary still the A-lister). I have 2 daughters who are 15 and 21 so between us we get a LOT of manis and pedis. We have had really good ones here and also really bad ones. You know the kinds--they're too fast and the polish ends up in the bed of your finger or toe. Not great and for the price and the atmosphere I'd wish they could step it up just a little. Whatever they use for top coat doesn't wear very well. However, it's super clean, super comfortable and if you have an appointment you never have to wait. Magazines are good, too! read more

I have noticed her behavior on a few occasions. On the phone I was so perplexed with the way she spoke to me about something as simple as scheduling an appointment. I was very dismayed with the service at Lavande. My nails were trimmed unevenly and there were many jagged edges. The polish started to chip off within 24 hours. I felt like they rushed the polishing of my nails, but were happy to ask if I wanted an extra long foot massage so they could make more money. I was incredibly disappointed with the service I received and even more dissapointed in the results. So funny to read Yelp reviews..I tend to trust them, yet sometimes it's like "what?". As a former New Yorker, finding a clean, professional, top-notch nail salon was a priority when I moved to Marin. Lavande has never disappointed. The front desk staff, while young, always remember my name and greet me with a smile. The manicurists are thorough, remember to NOT cut my cuticles, and do a fabulous job on both manis and pedis. The first manicure I had from Lavande was the best I've ever had. I got a dark color, which we all know chips quickly, and it didn't chip for two weeks!!! The pedicures have always been good too. I think it just depends on who does the service because I have gotten manicures that weren't that great. The price for a manicure ($13) is a great deal, but their lowest pedicure is $26 and if you get a mani-pedi there is no discount, which is unfortunate. They have a large selection of nail polish colors and fun soaps, lotions, clothes, shoes etc to look at while you wait for your service or after you're finished. read more
