If there was ever a Therapist who was passionate about what he does, it is definitely Dr. Lavayen. He may be a one man show, but he stays on task with each and every patient and the few times I have been there with a full house, not one person was overlooked. Poor communication . One guy , ten clients . One sessions week when doctor asked for two a week and only 4 -5 sessions and he never followed up or called me back after like 4 voice mails and speaking to him to ask for follow up on the request for more pt from my insurance company . Poor guy . He is sweet but can't keep up and therefore we thé clients loose out and can't get well without proper care and it's border line negligent . He should just retire . No receptionist or staff or office manager . No hygiene wiping absolutely anything and all equipment literally dirty and falling apart . No infection control for anything . This facility is a one man show. Literally and physically. Dr Lavayen was the receptionist, therapist, and aide. It would be fine if I was the only patient, but there were three other patients in the room. I never got his full attention. read more

My podiatrist referred me to Lavayen Physical Therapy because I had a foot issue. The only person there was Al Lavayen, he was a one-man show. He answered the phone, gave papers to fill out when you come in and was providing physical therapy to 4 people at the same time. I had a list of questions that I wanted to ask him about my foot but I couldn't ask one because he just told me do this exercise with your foot/feet and then he would disappear to someone else. That was how it was the whole time I was there. If I could give him a minus 10 I would. He gave me exercises I should do in the future which I never did because for about 6 months or so my foot had pain which I never had before and my normal foot was now having issues. In my opinion don't go to this place there are many other places that will help you with your issues, just find someplace else. He didn't help me, he hurt me. He also had me use a stretch band on my bare foot that someone else used so he is not using hygienic practices. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. read more

He provided me with useful exercises that were challenging in a good way. As an athletic person, I've struggled with certain issues for a while and thought I should share in case this helps anyone else. I called this clinic after a referral from my PCP. I called the number on my paperwork, and they pointed me here. After calling to verify my insurance works, (sometimes it doesn't and then I end up paying 10X my copay) their rep said they would call me back with a yes or no. They never did. I called them a few days later and asked about it. They said that they already called me back ( they didn't) and said that the service wasn't covered. (It definitely is). I hung up and called my insurance just to make sure it was covered. I got out my Summary of benefits coverage and medical summary of benefits coverage which is a longer document that goes into detail about what exactly is covered under my plan. After verifying that it was a covered service I call them back and ask about it. They still claim that the service wouldn't be covered and I would have to pay for the visit out of pocket. The rep offers to make an appointment. I say no and hang up. I call my insurance company who calls my medical group who states that they will now accept my insurance, but I am no longer welcome there since I was "hostile". Something tells me that the other reviewers who claim this clinic is overloaded is likely the problem. Not calling me back after promising to, lying about taking my insurance, and then lying about me being "hostile" leads me to believe that no one is being healed here. People who are in pain constantly and need physical therapy are notoriously crabby and those who work in this space need thick skin. I think they are just looking for an excuse to stop the inflow of patients for whatever reason. read more

I have been to a few different physical therapy groups in southern Orange County to recover from two ankle reconstructions and now from shoulder surgery. Dr. Lavayen was the only therapist within 10 miles that would accept our new PPO insurance. I was thankful to see he had only raving reviews on Yelp, so to Dr. Lavayen I went. I'm now not surprised to see that Dr. Lavayen accepted my insurance because I'm pretty sure he would help absolutely anyone in need. He has an obvious love for his profession and patients and a charisma that rivals Santa Claus. Dr. Lavayen slips easily into Spanish for those who are not proficient in English, making everyone feel welcome and at ease. There are no physical therapy assistants helping Dr. Lavayen, just the lovely Sara, his office manager, and they have the office humming along. Dr. Lavayen is a multi-tasking master and is on constant duty, helping every patient, making for almost no sitting time between therapies. They have magazines, but I've never been able to sit long enough to read one. Also, he doesn't watch the clock. He helps with exercises he deems appropriate, be it an hour, or an hour and a half, or more. He will never make a person feel rushed or a burden. The atmosphere is positive and the patients become friends. In the almost two months that I have seen Dr. Lavayen three times a week, I have seen a steady progression in healing, mobility, and a great reduction in pain in my shoulder joint. I trust Dr. Lavayen whole-heartedly in his capacity to help me heal. My orthopedic surgeon was very complimentary toward Dr. Lavayen and is impressed with my strength and movement. I hope I don't do something else to send me back to physical therapy any time soon, but if I do, I'm going straight to Dr. Lavayen! read more

I got referred to Al by one of the top orthopedic surgeons in the US after a complicated elbow reconstruction. I was told I would be lucky if I got 70-80% range of motion back in my arm. I've seen more physical therapists than I'd care to over the years, but Carlos (Al) Lavayan is the best. I suffered a herniated disc and needed back surgery and physical therapy. Lavayan has a PhD in physical therapy and is the most knowledgeable and experienced PT I've worked with. I was skeptical at first because he has a relatively small office and shuttles between up to six patients at any given time. My experience with these kind of arrangements isn't good, but he was able to keep up, spend time with me, and keep an eye on what I was doing. He's very conservative, and successfully diagnosed and corrected issues that came up during rehabilitation. He has a wonderful, patient, character, and I thoroughly enjoyed going to PT. read more
