I would have given this place 4 stars, but this is the second time I booked a 90-minute massage and was only given a 60-minute session. The last massage therapist I had, Tanya, did an awful job. The massage felt rushed and unprofessional. She mostly used one hand, seemed inexperienced, and jumped randomly from one area to another without any flow or technique. Much of the session consisted of simply pressing my body down into the table rather than actually working on the muscles and relieving tension. I even asked her to use her hands more effectively and focus on releasing the pressure in my muscles, but she didn't listen. What a waste of my day off and my money. I've been to Lavender a few times now and I honestly don't remember how I discovered it but am so glad I did! They are tucked away in a little strip mall on Vanowen and Canoga. This time, we went to celebrate a friend's birthday. The spa is super clean and the staff is extremely friendly and punctual. They have great prices and deals listed on their website. We each went for the deep tissue massage and boy oh boy was it deep! I had Lucy who was amazing. She asked if I liked stretching (I do) and the next thing I knew I was folded up like a pretzel -- it was amazing. She also used hot stones and I'm pretty sure she got up on the table with me to give me the most pressure she could give. I'm still feeling it today in the best way possible. I was introduced by my friend to Lavender and now I'm hooked. Very good prices, friendly staff and clean and convenient location. I used to drive to silver lake from the valley because it's the only other place I trusted. Now I have this place less than 10 minutes away! I have serious medical conditions with my spine that give me grief. So massage is not just for relaxation for me- it's for pain management. Because I refuse to take any pharmaceutical medications. This was my 3rd visit over the past 3 months. I've had 3 different therapists. I can't remember the name of the 1st therapist I had. The second time I came I had Jenny and she gave wonderful hip stretches as a part of her massage that I really enjoyed and needed. She was good! She wasn't there tonight so I was given another nice woman instead. I almost don't want to say her name because I don't want her booked and busy when I want to come back! lol LILY!!!! I knocked off 2 stars because halfway through, the masseuse massaged my bare feet and then proceeded to massage my scalp, face, and neck without washing her hands. I think (?) she put on hand sanitizer but that ain't enough after getting all up in my feet!!! Germaphobes beware... as general practice, it's more hygienic to start with the upper body and then do lower body last. Or at the VERY least save the feet for last. I had to go home and shower again. They also ask you to pay upfront which was a bit jarring at first because I've never done that before at a spa. I have no clue what all these people on the review are raving about. I don't know if each massage "therapist" is super super different (which is not ideal) there should be a standard. You know it's bad when they make you pay up front at check in. My lady was named Cherry and it was one of the worst massages. It was an oil rub, I had to keep asking how much time was left and 20 minutes into the massage I had to tell her to use the rest of the time on my feet ( at least that way reflexology could be utilized ). There was zero technique involved, I was in my head the whole time and I just wanted to turn over and show her how to massage my body. There was no pressure, it was very repetitive slow movement, overall made me have anxiety of how terrible it was. I visited on Sunday & they were able to take me in last minute as they accept walk ins. Their staff were so kind. I let them know that the last time I went, I had a pretty rough experience because their medium level still felt very painful, but they were very understanding and lowered the level even more. You pay at the beginning and they provide you with a stamp card to fill every time you go + keep track of who's doing the massage to try new people out or request the same person. The physical location is beautiful and clean. It's $65/hour and I chose the Swedish massage and it's a full body experience. You do have to take off everything except your underwear! At the end, you go outside and they give you a tea and water with kisses chocolates and you can sit and take a moment to continue relaxing before heading out.
