I will start by saying, I have been to other LaVida locations before and they're all not like this. I've been to several other massage places and they're more attentive. Maybe I just got a bad masseuse this time, so in that case I highly don't recommend Pam at this location in Livonia. I get to LaVida at 2:10 for my 2:15 appointment on Monday December 23, 2024. I finish their intake form in 1 minute because I sped through the whole thing, not wanting to waste any time. I wasn't picked up from the masseuse till 2:21, please fact check the cameras there to show that accuracy, because I know I'm right about that. Which means, by the time the masseuse is done talking to me and I take off all my clothes and lay in the bed, I'm not getting massaged till 2:30. The whole time I'm in the bed she's telling me that I'm stiff and I need to stretch or my soreness won't go away. I tell her I don't like my armpits touched, and the area right above my butt is always tickly so I don't like that touch either. I tell her both things she gives me attitude both times, saying things like "It's tickly here because it's tight. So you don't want me to massage this?" Like no woman I said what I said don't touch me there. She spends just as much time on my arms and legs as she did on my back.. So what was the point of me even doing the intake form? Not to mention she probably spent a good 15 minutes just putting on lotion, and doing whatever she was doing because it wasn't massaging me. She turns me around, rubs my shoulders for about 2 minutes and then tells me she's done. It's 3:15 on the dot.. I am fully clothed and in the lobby by 3:19. How is it that I pay for a 60 minute massage but I'm fully clothed and out before the time they even brought me to the room. Again, go ahead and watch your cameras and see when I come out back. Check it, please. So not only did you shorten my time, but you didn't do what I asked you to, which was focus on my upper back. They did take off $30, which I will check our bank statements to see, however this was a waste of my time.. I'm not saying don't come here. I'm saying don't come here and get Pam as a masseuse. Let's see if they rectify the situation because this is unacceptable. read more

Made an appt 2 weeks in advance, showed up for the appt 15min before scheduled time and was told the therapist I had the appt with quit a week or so prior & they couldn't honor my app that they had confirmed with me the day prior. Was offered a $10 aromatherapy add on to reschedule for another day. Had I cancelled 10min prior to the appt I'd of been charged the entire massage cost but they couldn't let me know I no longer had an appt? Will not be returning. read more

My experience with Alex at the Livonia location was not positive. FIrst, I went back to speak with him to find out if he was the one taking me today. He said who nots to know. I told him I am a client of his . Well it was him and he was rude. Then he goes through a discussion regarding cardio and circulation that's fine but I told him I don't want this speech to cut into my time and it was starting too. He didn't like that so when he started working on my legs, he takes the cover and puts it over my head. You know how insulting everything was to get back for my comments and like I can't say anything or he will be sensitive about it. So, when the massage was complete usually the massage therapist will wait and bring you water well not ALEX. never left a tip and told the receptionist to advise the manager of that location. My husband and I decided to go here for our anniversary and get a couples massage. Making the appt was super easy and the times were perfect with our schedule. I made the appt about 4 days in advance. The two massage therapists were very polite and professional and used the right amount of pressure. My husband had never had a massage and loved it! I have had a few, but am not a huge fan. I don't like strangers touching me. That said, Mark did an awesome job. I felt very comfortable with him. I would return. The first massage price gets you in, at $40pp who can turn it down? After that it gets pretty expensive unless you agree to go monthly, which is reasonable. You have the option to be in the couple room so you and your significant other can share the experience. Overall great experience, great decor, great atmosphere and VERY relaxing! My husband and I have had couple's massages twice here. Both times he's had Racquel and he's raved over her. She's a sweet lady to top it off. I've had two different people but both were excellent and truly seemed like they knew what they were doing. Our massages have both been relaxing. You may be thinking, "Wouldn't any massage be?" Beware that you will be wearing a mask for your entire massage, even while face down in the head support on the table. It is very hard to breath much less get into a state of relaxation. And, even though you are required to wear a mask, the staff is not required to be vaccinated. Another guest asked the receptionist if she was vaccinated and she got an attitude about the question and refused to answer. Clients need to protect staff by wearing a mask, so it only makes sense that staff should be vaccinated to protect clients. They told the guest she was required to wear a mask because they consider themselves a health facility, and as far as I know healthcare workers are required to be vaccinated. So, I don't see why the question was out of line. My doctors office is open and honest about staff vaccination. read more

Poor Customer Service. The new receptionist failed to ask for my credit card when I made my appointment. When I arrived 20 minutes prior to my appointment to fill out paperwork, I was told by the girl working the desk that my appointment had been cancelled. I was extremely upset and disappointed seeing as I had taken a 1/2 day off work and was hoping to relieve ongoing muscle pain in my neck and shoulder. She stated that she tried to call be the evening before (I was not home) and again in the morning (I was at work and they had my home number). Because I did not get the message and did not call back, they simply cancelled my appointment and thought nothing of it. On a good note, I found out that LaVida is independently owned and therefore I will visit other locations but will never return to Livonia! read more

I always enjoy the deep tissue massage with Lisa. She is the BEST massage therapist of them all. I have been going there for ahout 3 years. This rating could have been higher only if they didn't BURN MY FACE during my facial. She burned it so bad that until now (after a year), I still have (deep) scars. I stopped my membership there because they really didn't do much for my facial burns. No products to take care of it. Nothing! What a service, huh. Never again! Started going to Lavida over 2 years ago with a coupon from a mail ad .I had no problem getting the appointment time I wanted. I liked the first massage so much I signed up for their membership plan 39.95 a month for a 60 min massage. This is a very good deal when you price out other places which charge up to 70.00 per hour.They update you by email and phone to remind you of appointments which I like . When you get there the receptionist greets you with a smile .They are always very polite and always ask how your massage went.I have been going to Calais for 2 years .She is a very good massage therapist with the experience of someone who been doing this for a long time . My sister also goes to Lavida and she is also very happy with them.Lavida is close to home ,priced right and they have very good people that work there . My 80 year old Mother and I had each been given a $50 gift certificate from my Son. I made an appt for both of us to attend at the same time. My 80 year old Mother became ill 3 hours before our scheduled appt. She called to let them know. They cancelled her appt and promptly deducted $25 from her gift certificate! They have a 12 hour cancellation policy. How would someone know if they were going to become ill??? After speaking with the Manager who consulted with the owner they decided a $25 (that is half of her gift!) deduction was appropriate. How is this fair to take 1/2 of a Senior citizens gift? I feel in today's world where Customer Service is so so Important........THEY FAIL! We have a choice where to spend our money and it WILL NOT be at La Vida. There is such a turn over in staff you end up liking someone and then there gone in a few weeks when you book another appt. It's very hit or MISS! And the last straw was today my Mom went to her appt. That my sister and I got her for Mothers Day. And this was again with someone new. My mom said it took 10min before the massage even started. And when she got out to the front desk she looked at the clock and she had 10 min left before her time was even supposed to be up. And she took about five min to get dressed. She got a 35 min. instead of 50 min. And then they charged 69.95 instead of the 59.95 we were always charged. I would never pay $70 for here I would go to a nice high end spa for that.... Worst experience I have EVER had.. I bought a deep tissue and the lady barely touched me.. it felt like she was carressing my back rather than rub it. I asked her to rub harder 3 times she said something about thats not the right way to do it.. she also spoke very loud when its supposed to be a relaxing environment.. and when I made a complaint to the manager she said she would give me a discount for my next visit for $50!? I had a massage here a few weeks ago expecting an amazing massage, as my back and neck had been tight and bothering me for months. I indicated on the information sheet which areas were bothering me which to me meant that I wanted those areas worked on. The massage was very....bland...And though it was relaxing, it was not half as good as I expected it to be. The therapist talked throughout my entire session (how is THAT relaxing!?), after indicating to her verbally which areas were bothering me, she still spent more time on my extremities than my back and neck, and in all honesty, my 5 year old has done a better job. The therapist and receptionist were very nice and professional however, I do not think that I will be returning to this "spa" for another massage. So i was excited and I made an appointment for 3pm! i found it strange that they wanted a credit card number in case i didn't show. They wanted to charge me $25.00 but I said no to that. I did show up, at 2.55 and the front desk gave me my new customer paperwork to fill out. Then i waited and watched the clock move to 3.15. Finally i asked if they were running behind? Turned out that the person doing my facial was out for the day training.. I had brought people in to cover me leaving my job. So i felt very ticked that no one had bothered to call me and inform me of this development. Yet they had called me to remind me of my appointment. TWICE! I asked the receptionist to bring the manager out. Seems she could not be found either, nor was she answering her phone. Next i asked to speak to the owner and she got him on the phone. He never apologized about wasting my time, OR that no one had called me to try to reschedule me. His customer service talent was to offer me a free facial. Truthfully all i was looking for was an apology and some understanding that my time is valuable. I guarantee that if i had given my credit card number to them and i had not shown up, they would have charged me $25.00. So should I have charged them $50.00 dollars since that is my no show fee? I finally excepted the free facial since i felt i was getting nowhere fast with the owner. This was my first time at this store and the experience was terrible. No communication to the staff or to the customer. The owner had no clue where his manager was and the manager was not picking up her phone. The owner must just be the money guy because his customer service skills were in need of some help. I can not review the facial until I actually get the facial. I am nervous to go back. read more

Unfortunately, I was Extremely disappointed in my massage. I hate leaving bad reviews because I know the affect it has on businesses, but I didn't appreciate the way they handled the situation, so I don't want others to have the same experience. The masseuse was very friendly but did not do what we talked about in the "consultation" which is considered 5 min of the 60 min massage and another 5 min for changing, so you actually only get 50 min and mine was less than that. Anyway, I asked for strong pressure and it felt like she was just rubbing lotion on me. Didn't work on any knots and there are plenty to choose from. I also requested that she focused on my right hamstring. Don't think she even touched it. I was willing to accept the fact that I like deeper tissue massages and this was not her specialty so maybe someone else would enjoy a lite pressure massage, but when I expressed my dissatisfaction with the front desk, they said they could give me $10 off today and I could come back and try another masseuse for $49. I passed. If they would have offered a complimentary return to try another masseuse I probably would have tried it and hopefully had a better experience and would have not written them a bad review, but I've already waisted $45 and an hour of my life so not willing to pay for the chance that I would have a similar experience. read more

I was very excited when I booked a couples massage as a surprise for my boyfriends birthday until I arrived. I made a 1pm, Thursday appointment and we both took the day off work for this. Not only were we not greeting when we walked in, they didn't have our reservation. The receptionist sat on the phone for almost 5 minutes without acknowledging us standing directly in front of her, then when she hung up the phone she started talking to a customer waiting for her therapist. Finally when she said how can I help you, not "how are you" or "sorry about making you wait," she told me that our appointment was made for Wednesday & that they had no available couples therapists for today but maybe try back again next week. 1) I am 110% positive I made the appointment for Thursday because we both took the day off work 2) they never said "sorry, let me see how we an fix this" or "here's a complimentary $10 off" or anything to correct their error. Just a simple slap in the face comment to "try again for next week." Never again will I come here, never will I recommend this establishment, I will only tell everyone the story of how la vida ruined a part of a day that was supposed to be a special surprise and didn't take any steps to help resolve the issue.
