I went here as a kid since I was first able to go to the dentist actually and I stopped going here because my mother needed to move and it was to far. However that's not the real issue. I shouldn't have been going back to Kotlow after the very first visit. My brothers shouldn't have neither. I am now 21 years old and I am still beyond traumatized to go to the dentist. This man "dr" kotlow held me down with his hand on my chest and told me not to cry as I was in agonizing pain from a procedure of caps being put in and I had no lidocaine. Mind you I was around like 5-6 and I'm on the freaking spectrum. I'm autistic so I was panicking cause of the pain and the noise and this dude was yelling at me holding me down. You should be ashamed of yourself. And I hate seeing you respond on everyone's comments trying to make yourself look like and angel kotlow. You know what you did to me. That's why on Google when I rated this same exact rate you said absolutely nothing to me. Because you know you are a sick cruel man. The only thing I can say for anyone possible reading this. DO NOT TAKE YOURE CHILDREN TO THIS PSYCHO! And if your children are seeing this horrible man... if they say something like this believe it because it's 100% freaking true and it could ruin your kids mouth in the future. And if you're reading the Kotlow I know you remember me and definitely remember this. And just know this won't go away. I plan on taking this to court eventually. Very thankful that we found Dr Kotlow. It took us almost a full year of difficult breastfeeding to finally decide that we should be seen. I'm so glad we did come in! My daughter had multiple ties and we were able to get them revised right there. Difficulty with having to hand my daughter over to the treatment team with no option to be in the room with her. With our first child we struggled the first month with breast feeding to the point his weight was dropping and the pediatrician was concerned. Dr. Kotlow is a pediatric dentist who was my dentist back in the 1970s and 1980s. I haven't been here in over 20 years, but I can remember the upstairs check in and waiting area having a full size Pac Man arcade game (no quarters required), which was sooo cool. The "dungeon below," oops I mean the "downstairs area" has the dental chairs. Parents are not allowed to go downstairs with their child, so it was a scary moment as a tyke going downstairs alone. As a very young child, I soooo really dreaded going here for the teeth removal. Dr. Kotlow would put a mask of laughing gas over my face and put headphones over my ears and blast some Sesame Street while using high screechy noisy tools and yanking my teeth out. That was my short-lived "Nightmare On Sesame Street" starring the Cookie Monster with Bert & Ernie. "C is for Cookie......Eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh!" I closed my eyes trying not to stare into the bright RITTER light. That was way back in the day. I had the "tooth fairy" to look forward to! Yay! The teeth cleanings here were very thorough and efficient, which included fluoride treatment to help prevent tooth decay in young teeth. Dr. Kotlow used his bare hands way back (bite down), probably uses gloves today. I had no cavities under Dr. Kotlow's care. After each dentist visit, I was REWARDED by getting to pick out a small PRIZE from the large toy chest. SCORE!! That definitely was the best part of going to see Kotlow that I always looked forward to!! I still have several cool finger puppets and puzzles from those visits. After over 30 years, I believe Dr. Kotlow is still practicing in the same location, located in the house with light gray siding across from Stuyvesant Plaza near Western Avenue. Dr. Kotlow revised my middle daughter's lip and tongue ties a few days after birth. We had been "warned" (as it were) that some parents found his bedside manner lacking. So my husband and I were prepared for that, but quite the contrary, we found Dr. Kotlow to be humorous, warm, and engaged. Most importantly though, his commitment to the health of babies and the nursing comfort of mothers was readily apparent. My daughter's tongue tie ended up growing back, which happens sometimes, and we will need to get it revised in the NYC area. We have also discovered that my older son (who was never evaluated at birth) also has a tie that his speech language therapist is recommending we have corrected. My youngest daughter also had hers corrected two days after birth via "scissor snip" here in NYC by another very highly regarded doctor, and sadly hers has grown back as well. It seems we are just a very tongue-tied family with some stubborn oral tissue! I think a lot of people are under the impression that just because something is *common*, like lip and tongue ties, that it cannot be *harmful." This simply isn't true. Tongue ties can cause a host of problems over the life span even if nursing isn't necessarily affected. Issues can include but are not but not limited to, speech articulation issues, and improper tongue posture leading to poorly developed jaws and maloccluded teeth. After years of seeing Kotlow - 12 years...we get a call that he is no longer accepting GHI Dental...WTF.

We Drove across country to see the dr. He did the revision for my infant who had 4 different ties. He was informal and compassionate. A few weeks later something didnt seem right my chiropractor commented about one of the ties still being thick. We made a follow up visit and he showed me again how to do the stretches though I was doing them I wasn't doing them correctly. He revised her upper lip again as it was a still a bit to thick and tight. So appreciative of him and his practice, my babies heath and ability to eat properly is important. His office is staff are polite and professional and the office is clean and tidy. read more

Had daughter evaluated by Kotlow after nursing problems. He recommended tie surgery. Asked my pediatrician for a 2nd opinion and he examined my daughter as well. Not only did he say that my daughter did NOT need a tie correction, he said he's not heard of a time that a child has been evaluated by Kotlow and been told that the child does NOT need surgery...Really? They always need surgery? I'm sure that a very small amount of kids (and nursing moms) might benefit from this surgery, but it seems like it ought to be a very small number who are born as deformed (i.e., not normal) children. My 4.5 year old had been seeing Dr.Kotlow since he was 18 months old and had his lip tie corrected. Until recently I had good experiences with him. My four year old was at a recent cleaning in January when dr kotlow said he needed a pulpotomy (aka root canal) on his front tooth because it had abscessed from an injury. Dr Kotlow took an X-ray without informing me beforehand or asking permission. He explained nothing of the procedure to me, other than that he would be cutting through his tooth. I asked what he did for pain control to allow a 4 year old to tolerate this, he said "it doesn't hurt" I did not feel comfortable with this, so I sought a second opinion and tried to get the X-ray sent( to avoid further radiation exposure that I never gave permission for in the first place ) which the office never did. The new office called for a second attempt to obtain the X-ray, dr kotlows office stated they had none. The whole practice seems very sketchy with parents not being allowed downstairs..things being done without consent..Needless to say we are not returning. read more

I have been taking my children to Dr. Kotlow for 8 years and initially I was impressed with his no-nonsense attitude and expertise in infant lip and tongue conditions. Dr. Kotlow is clearly a leader in laser surgery, which is the best approach to treat many oral conditions in infants. Now that my children are elementary age I have noticed that the culture is lacking in respect and compassion - with some hygienists actually treating my kids rudely. This is compounded by the fact that parents are not allowed in the area where the kids are being treated, which was fine when I had more trust in the staff, but now just makes me feel anxious. I have now had two years of bad experiences where one or all of my children are in tears by the end and they all dread going to the dentist. The games in the video games in the waiting room and prizes afterwards don't seem to make up for the poor culture of care. I am embarrassed that it has taken me so long to decide to switch, but I am definitely going to find a different office to take them to in the future. I want them to experience an environment that ensures that they will continue to value regular visits to the dentist as they grow up. read more

I was referred to this dentist because my 6 year old son had an abcessed tooth that need to be removed. The dentist created a whole "treatment plan" that included removal of 9 baby teeth to make room for his adult teeth to POSSIBLY come in straighter. When i consulted other dentists they said they do NOT reccommed removing baby teeth just in HOPES that adult teeth MIGHT come in straighter. Many kids have had teeth removed for this purpose and still have to have braces. The doctor would not remove the abcessed tooth unless I agreed to continue with the entire "treatment plan". This doctor is out of his mind. A quack out for money! Save your time and spare your child's pain by NOT going to this dentist!! read more
