The LBC has been a much-anticipated addition to the Lawrence beer and dining scene, and based on my visits so far, they are doing an amazing job. As a brewpub, I will start with the beers; they are all quite good ranging from solid to outstanding. The 'Lectric IPA is a beautifully balanced, hoppy daily drinking IPA that nails the flavor without overwhelming you with comical levels of hops. A bit lighter is the Eastside Pale Ale which is probably my favorite beer on the menu. Additional beers that stand out include the roasty Flyover Stout and the tart Edel Weiss. Anyone who enjoys beer will have a great time; the only caveat is that LBC doesn't yet have a "light" beer for newbies, equivalent to say the Free State Golden Wheat. I would imagine something like that will be coming. Moving from beer to food, the LBC has a nice mix of upscale comfort food. Of special note the mac and cheese and cheesy grits are the best of those foods in Lawrence. The grilled cheese is amazing as well, the perfectly done with a bit of jalepeño jam to give it a mild kick. I've tried several of the appetizers including the waffle fries and hummus. The hummus is unique, using a black bean rather then garbanzo bean base. The waffle fries are crispy with a steamy interior to reward you each bite; alas the accompanying cheese and aioli dips are a bit too limited in quantity and you run out halfway through the fries. Keeping to a cheese theme (can you tell what I like?) the cheeseburger is a highlight as well; it is the diner-style smashed patties with bacon and the LBC equivalent of "special sauce" and tastes great, especially when paired with their take on a Caesar side salad, complete with tangy lemony dressing. The physical environment of LBC is nicely done, with a spacious bar and accompanying standing bar, and a large dining room with high ceilings and a nice patio which is super pleasant when the weather is nice. The large space does present some acoustic problems when the place is busy; some additional insulation should help this out. Also beware, on site parking is quite limited especially during busy times, but there is ample parking in the neighborhood nearby. Service is friendly and engaging, they have done a fine job training staff, and on all my visits the service has been excellent, especially given the newness of the establishment. All in all, LBC has really started out well and I am excited to see where things go from here. read more

Fun atmosphere and large beer selection. The kolsch was really good! We had the grilled cheese with bacon and egg, which was yummy! We also had the rice encrusted chicken bites, which were good but some of the pieces were all breading and no chicken. read more

Lawrence brewing is an great space located a few blocks from Mass St. the space itself is spacious and bright. Tons of seating and defiantly can accommodate large groups. The bar has two rows of seating which makes it great for people who just want to drink. Sitting at the bar provides a great view into the brew house which adds to the fun of drink local beer. The beer selection is great with about 12-15 beers made in house. They have at least one beer for everyone. For my IPA lovers, defiantly go with the Lectric. It is very good with just the right amount of hops. I did not see a food menu during my visit but the food coming out of the kitchen and the smell made my mouth water. They have several TVs to watch any game you might be interested in. My only issue was with the sluggish service. I will still definitely come back and I recommended it to anyone looking to get a good beer in Lawrence! read more

Overcooked food, really poor service but the beer was good. With all the great options in Lawrence, we unfortunately won't be back again.

The drink menu is diverse. We appreciated having both a variety of cocktails and beers. The ambience was fun, and the staff all wore masks and we felt comfortable with this dining experience in the midst of COVID. The problem was the service. Our drinks and appetizers came out quickly. However inside and outside, the restaurant was less than half full. After an hour of waiting for food, we inquired about it, we had no apology, just a rude server saying they were slammed. At this point the restaurant was a quarter full. One person in the party was served tartar sauce with a hair in it. Again, no apology. The server seemed annoyed and returned with a new tartar sauce. Food just ok. Salads and Brussels sprouts great, burgers are below average. Limited options-- 3 burgers, 1 fish and chips, tacos, grilled cheese and mac n cheese. (Both kinds of sick; details not suitable) Last weekend (Feb 2nd) we joined the bday party of a friend. We brought the kids. Girl kid got Mac and cheese. Boy kid got a burger. Boy kid threw up twice in the following 4 hours. The birthday girl barely made it to her home restroom. I DON'T UNDERSTAND LBC! Refrigeration? Meat temps? Cleanliness of the kitchen? The food is overpriced. The service is curt, only superficially friendly, and thoughtless. The atmosphere is nice in a beer hall sort of way - loud and chaotic. There is a huge mural of a wheat field under a boiling sky that is the main decoration and it's gorgeous and perfect for the location. I've eaten dinner here three times. The menu is a little pretentious. There are no condiments on the tables, not even salt and pepper. The wait staff doesn't offer anything, or even pause or check back to see if you might need something - which is strange since there are no seasonings or condiments. The food is curtly plopped down and you don't see your server again until your plate is empty. I have twice flagged down the server and asked for salt and mustard and the server seems put out, then salt arrives in a little dish without a spoon. Roaming random staff do keep your beverages filled. A hamburger with a small patty, alone on a plate with nothing on the side, costs $9. A small basket of waffle fries costs $7. As I said, the food is overpriced. (The other brewery in town serves a big burger and includes fries, for less.) The hamburger (I've tried two) was delicious and came on a nice, shiny bun. The special, smoked ribs mixed into pasta, simply did not work as a dish. I'm not an expert on beer so I won't rate except to say I enjoyed it. Happy hour beer costs $3. If you want five stars from me, lower the food prices, put some salt and pepper on the table, and tell the servers to be thoughtful and consider what diners might need. (I always tip well, even for this poor service, so that's not the problem.) read more

Awesome food, great beet, fun atmosphere. Big open space in and old building in an up and coming area (just a few blocks off Mass but very different feeling). Long beer list, heavy on the hoppy ales, and a few imperials but something for everyone. Peach sassion is very peachy and good for non beer drinkers. Several coffee infused options. Winter warmer very good, Pilsner a nice simple beer. Food is great. Nice salads,good soup, chicken burger is awesome. WARMING. grilled cheese has pepper jelly that is spicy. Had to switch because the person that ordered it doesn't handle hot food but I really like it. Those that can't handle heat should avoid or skip the pepper jelly. I've enjoyed LBC. I've been several times, participated in events there, such as yoga classes, taken family members there for birthdays... I've thought they've done a good job. They're young and hungry to build a positive reputation. In a town with an established giant and community favorite like Free State Brewery, that's really something. However, my most recent encounter has left me profoundly disappointed. My spouse and I went in to buy some bottles of a special batch. Quick in and out... We did not dine, we did not even sit down--just quickly to the bar to buy some bottles, then on to another appointment. We each bought two bottles each, as that was the maximum per person. When the charges cleared to our account, we noticed that they were not the same amount. My husband realized someone added a 25% tip to one of the charges. It took days to get any response from management. Once contact was made, they essentially made us prove we hadn't added the tip. Even after seeing our receipts, and agreeing to credit to money back to us, the manager said that there had been no "foul play." I think most people would agree that the $6+ wasn't the problem. It was that someone altered the authorization slip. Compounding the problem was the manager's attitude: first making us prove we hadn't tipped, and then acting like he was doing us a favor by giving us our money back. We just can't go back after this. If you go to LBC, keep your receipt and watch your account afterwards. read more

Visited for the first time with a group of 5 for a weeknight dinner. They were pretty busy which we took as a good sign, and the service was great. All of the food and beer sampled by our group was awesome. Everyone was very pleased. Cubano, fish and chips, burger, apps, beers... everything was great. Very cool spot, love the renovations to the building. Only thing making me hold back that fifth star was the portion sizes which might have been a little small. Great place/location! My third trip here and I enjoy the beer and food. The service remains poor, though. There are currently 5 people behind the bar and 7 customers sitting at the bar, still struggle to get service. They are engaged with each other, not the customers. Awesome place. You can go to LBC for the beer, food, or both. All of it is great. The craft brews we had were the IPAs and a saison. Both were pretty good that I would get again and will look for in the liquor stores. The list of craft beers is pretty big and seems like there is something for everyone. The food was great too. We had the lamb meatballs, beer belly burger, and grilled cheese with bacon. It seems like some microbreweries that serve food have some over the top hipster food options on the menu but can't quite execute on them. However, LBC executes their menu very well, from wha we tried. The spices and sauce on the lamb meatballs were full of flavor. The beer belly burger was a burger patty with fried pork belly and pimento cheese that was a huge hit. The pork belly was large and fried and blended perfectly with the patty and cheese. It was perfectly juicey and cooked great. I'd like to eat a beer belly burger everyday. read more

I am not writing a Meh review to be unkind or rude. I hope it's helpful for the business owners to maybe make some changes. We went shortly after opening. It's loud and not comfortable. There's nothing there that makes me want to hang out there over and over. The food was not presented well. It looked boring and uninviting and that's your first "taste". As far as taste? Well... it was so uninspiring that we haven't been back and I'm not sure if we will. My last annoyance with the Lawrence Beer Co was there are no salt and pepper shakers. I feel this is because the kitchen feels they are so good at preparing food that how dare anyone wish to season it to their liking. Fine, if that's what you want to do, but now your food better knock my socks off! Well, the food needed both salt and pepper and then we had to ask for it and it was brought in complete irritation. I hope they get better because we were excited about having a new place to eat. read more

Very disappointed in the management of this establishment. Our family planned a reception here 3 months in advance. The day of the reception, we show up to decorate and had been told that they opened at 11. They did not open until noon and did not have any of the complementary beverages that we had been told would be there. Something that could have been fixed with a simple trip to the grocery store for some tea and lemonade. Then they didn't have the food trays prepared like they were supposed to. We all ended up ordering food from Bon Bon which was excellent. Absolutely unacceptable business practices and we are very embarrassed that we invited our family to such a terrible restaurant. While the atmosphere is fun and energetic the food is a bit overpriced and dishes come solo, requiring you to pay separately for a side. The fries were significantly overcooked. Friends at a table when we left told us theirs were the same. My son joked he almost chipped a tooth on a fry. A dish described as for 2-4 people (we ordered for 2) was hardly enough and more like an appetizer (yet priced like a full entre). For the "foo foo" crowd Lawrence Beer Co. probably deserves the 4 star average it is getting right now. Based on my experience this evening I had trouble giving them 2 stars. Service was great! It wasn't packed, but it was very busy and our server was attentive and food arrived quickly. Plus, there was no "not my table" crap. Several servers helped us. The good stops there. 1st of all it was LOUD! That seems to be the thing with restaurants these days, but when I have to raise my voice to "tiff" level with the person right next to me, it's too loud. 2nd; I like beer, but not one description on the list sounded very good. I went with the Big Peach, a Saison with peaches added in the fermentation. Nice peachy flavor to start, but there was a lingering sour/spoiled finish that was not pleasant. Wife liked it, so perhaps I have a more delicate palet... 3rd; I ordered the Fish N Chips. A pub standard for a reasonable test on the quality of the food. Waffle fries were good and the ketchup was normal. Lots of foo foo places like to do stuff to the ketchup. (I have to bring my own to one Lawrence eatery as the "normal" stuff is not available.) They did mess with the tarter sauce, which wouldn't be a problem if it at least went with fish...it did not! The fish itself was cooked well, cripy batter, and moist, flaky fish, but it had little to no flavor. Wifey said her lamb rigatoni was imaginative, tasty and generous, but not worth the price. I had one sample and think she is being generous with "tasty". I would not recomend LBC. read more

I was really excited about Lawrence Beer, and gave it too many chances, mostly because I like their beers. But the issues for me outweigh the advantages. First of all, the food is disappointing. I had dined there three times: with my spouse, with friends, and with colleagues, and every single time multiple people remarked negatively about the food. It's not a total disaster, I guess, but a disappointment. At a brew pub I expect some dependable, tasty pub food and some health-conscious options. If a brew pub wants to serve some more ambitious dishes, then these dishes should be memorable, or at least not meh. In addition, I dislike the cavernous, noisy space. I prefer something with more options, like Free State, where you can find both quiet corners and noisy seating in the middle of everything. Ultimately, Lawrence Beer is not for me. read more

We tried Lawrence Beer Co during restaurant week and were suitably impressed with the food and beer. We were returning about every week for lunch, but we started finding the quality to be inconsistent. Generally, the main fare was the selection of burgers, only occasionally something like a chicken parmigiana sandwich. Last time we were there with a friend, they all had the Lawrence burger and fries and King Hippo beers, and I had the Lawrence burger and salad and water (designated driver). Hippos cost extra, but there was no punch in them. Only thing I different in my meal was the salad, basically lettuce, dried onion bits, and dressing. That night, I developed one of the worst cases of food poisoning. Had to be the salad since it was the only thing that I ate differently than my husband the entire day. Beware! read more
