I'm a regular at LBC East as it is my "local" go to pub where I meet up with friends. The beer is good, but I'd like to see them change up the menu a bit more often, or just replace some of the slow movers with new ideas. read more

Cool little brewery that's gotten very popular very fast. We just stopped in for a quick drink on our way out of town. Nice selection of beers on tap. We just had the pretzel bites with pimento cheese for a little snack. It was quite good. Rest of the menu looks good too. Will be back next time we're in town. read more

I drove past the place an scoped it out a couple weeks ago.....decided to pull the trigger and try it tonight. THE GOOD! - They take the Covid precautions serious. I was impressed with the staff and the displayed precautions that they are taking. The bathroom was clean and offered amenities that were above normal. The staff was attentive, responsive, and extremely friendly. They timed their interactions great and I really never had to wait for any attention. The barrel aged imperial stout was amazing! The flavor was complex and got better the warmer it got. The more I sipped, the more complex it got. THE BAD! - The Big Peach Saison was a let down. Boring and flat up front, with a hint of peach on the back pallet. I was looking forward to pairing it with my dinner, but quickly changed gears. I was completely let down by my food choice. I was excited to try the fried avocado tacos with ancho aioli. It was plated with pickled red onion and cilantro. I went basic with my side of waffle fries. The highlight of the plate was the ketchup for the fries. The flour tortillas were cold and stale. The avocados had absolutely no real flavor (other than grease). As a matter of fact, the grease overpowered the pickled red onion and cilantro. You couldn't even taste them. The ancho aioli was more like a piquillo pepper aioli. All I could get throughout the pallet was heat. No taste. The total experience may have hit different if I was 6-8 drinks into my evening. I was in and out in 40-minutes. read more

First time here on the recommendation of a friend. First impressions were it's a cool location, old industrial building with brick walls, exposed ceilings etc. Second impression, it was loud. It was a pretty full on a Friday night and we had a hard time hearing each other...lots of brick, cement and wood for the sound to bounce around. For folks with young ears, probably not an issue but for us 50+ year olds it was distracting. Beers were all very good from Pilsner to pale ale to IPA,very solid. Food was okay, but nothing fantastic. Burger was solid as well as the fish and chips, but the tenderloin lacked flavor and the cheesy grits were just okay. Chiccaro appetizers were tasty if you like pork rind flavor. A good place for beer and decent food, but we won't return. read more

Great nicer place to eat while in Lawrence. Perfect for after a basketball game. Very nice interior with plenty of seating options: low and high tables, booths, and bar seating. I thought about giving 4 stars because this last visit's service was a little slow and it was hard to get a second drink. However, it was right after a game and quickly got packed. This time I had the Mac and cheese and added bacon. It is very unique. Not your typical Mac and cheese with the blue cheese taste. I would order again. The grilled cheese is awesome. I wish I could take a jar of that jam home!! Brussels sprouts are out of this world!! No clue what all they season them with but it is my favorite side/vegetable there. We did not get dessert because meal portion sizes were big and we did not have room. Next time I wanted to try the fried avocado tacos. They looked really good. read more

Read the drive-by reviews below, or mine--I made five trips here before reviewing. LBC is a big deal in this neighborhood. I'm one of the neighbors (within 2 blocks) that heartily approves of what's going on here. Most give this new business two thumbs up, but of course not everyone in the hood agrees, mainly the East Lawrence Neighborhood Association board, the same group of people for well over a decade that are simply anti-everything that doesn't run property values into the toilet. A slum lord's best friend, they are. I should know, I spent a year on the board--not enough Advil in this town to continue that nonsense. Never mind the rights of those pesky home owners like myself, but I digress. The facility is big, it's well thought out, it's modern, and it's beautiful and yet it fits into the rest of the street. People overflow outside onto picnic tables, the inside is hopping like mad as everyone in town rushes to see what's up here, and in spite of being new, I've yet to have a single service snafu or feel like no one saw me, no one knew I was there, etc.when it came time to order or I was waiting on my order. But the beer... Yes, they most definitely know what they're doing here, unlike some other supposed brewery out West on 23rd Street. And everyone I talk to seems to agree. I've sampled about 7-8 different beers to memory and am yet to find something I didn't think was crafted first-rate. Now, maybe not to my personal liking, but that's an individual choice, not a critique of the brewmaster's skill. And the food is solid, as it should be with a well known, long-time Lawrence chef at the helm. The chick-arrones (chicken skin with a chicharrón treatment) is downright evil in a good way. The atmosphere is happy, lively and bustling. A bit noisy, but somewhat expected. If I was to offer a few observations to the management, I'd say on a consistent basis the people manning the greeting space at the front need to figure out they were not hired to engage in fun conversation with each other and miss people walking in. They're there to make eye contact with whoever enters the facility, something I've yet to see happen very quickly. It's more like, sorry to disrupt your conversation, customer here. Sit at the bar and watch. You'll see. And that beer sign behind the bar. Poor fit. Low contrast, difficult to read, warm colors on gray background. at least one last night partially hidden by a TV??? I'm calling a do-over on that. Get something electronic or static that's legible, put it over the bar and the East and West walls and you'll have happier customers. Ask your own staff what they think of that signage. I did. Oh, and I understand they're coming and maybe take a bit longer to brew, and while I like a good stout and an IPA once in awhile, it'll be a welcome time when there's a kolsch, pilsner, wheat beer or helles on the menu. Not everyone digs the latest trend in super hopped IPAs, sours and bitters. I'll be back soon. I like what's going on here. Great for getting a large group in on a weekend! I like the exposed brick industrial interior and the high ceilings. The food was very good as well, and the kids enjoyed the large size of the kids' meals. I would come back with my family especially when it's hard to get into other places on a gameday. read more

We've been here twice this week (opening week). Tonight was the first night they had their full menu available and it didn't disappoint. Between our two visits, we've enjoyed the Black-Eyed Pea Hummus, Cheeseburger, BLAT, Kansas City Strip, Cubano, and the Mac & Cheese. Everything was fantastic, but the Cubano and KC Strip were phenomenal. The Cubano was the best one I've ever had and I can be pretty picky about them. The meat melts in your mouth and the other items included on the sandwich make it top-notch. I've been really impressed with the service each time we've been in, as well. The staff are well trained and attentive. They clearly know what they're doing and the food comes out accurately, and quickly. As a long time East Lawrence resident, I'm thrilled to have Lawrence Beer Company in our back yard and look forward to lots of great food and fantastic beer with my friends and family there for years to come! read more

Just had a terrible experience here. I'm staying close by so I decided stop in for a late dinner and drink. As I sit down at the bar, I wait for about 15 minutes so I can place an order only to be told the kitchen closes at 9 (it shows 10 on the weekend). Another patron sees my frustration and tells the bartender that the kitchen does close at 10. The bartender looks at me and says tonight we're closing early. Good variety of beers in Lawrenece! I like the side dock patio. Looks like they have a plethora of items on the food menu. Nice food and beer pairings. Bring your dogs! Outside seats aren't exactly lazy boys BUT it's a patio. We'll take a patio any day of the week. I liked the Pils and the Kolsch during spring. Some of the better beers in the area! I went after work on a Tuesday with some girlfriends. They had $3 beers as the special. I tried the peach farm ale. It was really good, but could have had more of a peach flavor. We decided to share the carne asada tacos $16 and the fish and chips $13. The tacos lacked seasoning, they needed a big pinch of salt. And for $16, there wasn't very much steak. Maybe 4oz. The fish and chips were really good! The waffle fries are AMAZING! They are so crispy and flavorful! The portion of the fish was fine, but it is still overpriced. $13 for 3 small fish sticks is too much, especially because it's a cheap cut of fish. I like this place, it's fun and trendy, but the food is overpriced. You're looking at $20/pp if you order food and a beer. read more

This is the place to go in Lawrence for beer. I have been to Free State, Black Stag, and more and they don't even compare to the kinds of quality beers they are chugging out. They are opening a new location on the west side as well. Get in there and try some of these tasty beers. I recommend the Big Wonderful, a collaboration beer with some other brewery and the Big Peach. Really, everything we tried there we liked, especially the flagship beer, the Lectric IPA. read more

Visited on a whim and was really happy we went. Checked it out on a Saturday night and thought it would be too busy with a KU football game and a World Series game going on and while it a little crowded, the service was on point. The bartenders were very attentive and engaging and still watched the games, which is perfectly okay. There are plenty of TVs if you're trying to watch a game but there are traditional seating options if you just want to have drinks and food. I tried their Big Peach beer. It was so good despite having an 8.5% ABV. Very smooth. Also had the Edel, it's a raspberry weisse and it was great too. The bartenders were very knowledgeable about their beers and provided great recommendations. I'm glad we went and would be a great time for those who enjoy beer. read more

The non alcoholic drink choices are also limited and if you're looking for coffee while at LBC, I suggest dining elsewhere as we were told "we don't have coffee this late in the day"... it was 6:30pm! "I have to pay 15 dollars for this little overcooked bite of biscuit?!" The service was mediocre too. It certainly seemed like our server has been there for 12 hours straight and too tired to care. Let the word go forth from this time and place, I am sick of IPAs and have been for years! American breweries are under a long-running misconception that Americans love IPAs and are demanding more, and this is where LBC has planted its flag, as well. Let's take stock of their current beer menu: 3 IPAs, 1 Double IPA, 1 Brut IPA, 1 Pale Ale, 2 stouts, 1 pilsner, 1 kolsch, 1 radler, 1 Saison, 1 sour, and 1 Marzen. My problem is not only that their beer menu is ridiculously weighted toward IPAs, but it just does not have a solid, good n' easy beer to drink (e.g. Bells Amber Ale, Fat Tire, Odells 90 Shilling, Ad Astra Ale, etc.). During a long, hot summer, like the one we just had here in Lawrence, a beer menu overflowing with super hoppy beers and thick, syrupy stouts is not a refreshing retreat from the heat. Aside from the beer, the interior of the LBC establishment is a bit charmless and sterile for my taste. The converted brick warehouse to restaurant/brewery should win me over, but the result is a loud, cavernous space that makes it difficult to have a conversation with the person sitting across the table from you. The bar and wait staff at LBC are...okay; a general lack of enthusiasm, but okay. read more

My favorite type of restaurant are breweries and these guys didn't disappoint. 1. The atmosphere is great, everyone was having a good time and the wait staff was very helpful. They have done a great job to make this place match their overall vibe. 2. My friend and I both ordered one of the burgers on the menu. It was pretty good and better than your traditional brewery food. 3. The beer selection was great and I enjoyed the two I had. I didn't count but there seemed to be a bunch of beers on the menu. I came here for dinner with the family. We had the lbc burger, east side burger, fish and chips, and pulled pork sandwich, and split a tres leches cake for dessert. Everyone was very pleased with their food. I had two east side IPAs. This beer is a proper session beer. Smooth, easy drinking, not overly hopped, with a low enough alcohol content to make a session of it. Brilliant. Brendon, I looked for you to say "hi", but you weren't around. I came through my old stomping grounds of Lawrence and decided that this was the place I wanted to eat and drink, twice. I wasn't disappointed in the quality of food and brews. I drank their 'Lectric IPA. Very good. Astringent and yet smooth. Of the two times I went I had tried the pretzel bites, the burger with the pork belly and another that was a straight up American classic. I apologize for not knowing the names. Despite my brain fart I have to say the food was all good. I will definitely come back this summer when traveling through the area. The downside to this place: IT'S LOUD! The reflective surfaces make the place cacophonous. I realize that this is how restaurants keep up the energy of the place. The louder the "better", right? No. Not right. The first night we went we brought the in-laws and the noise was too much for them. My father in-law has hearing damage from his time in the service and the loudness just hurt his ears and he couldn't contribute to conversation during dinner. What made it worse was that it was trivia night. Ug... that was freaking annoying for everyone there. I am unsure why this place wants to contend with other bars in the area by having a trivia night. It was obnoxiously loud. No one should have to scream across a 3' expanse of table-top, as we did. The second night was not obnoxious with the loud MC and the trivia sound samples being blared over the sound system. That said, it was still fairly loud. The sound has nowhere to go but bounce off all the stone, metal, and wood surfaces. There is nothing to absorb the noise. Go for the food and beer, but if you are sensitive to sound you may not want to damage your hearing sitting there for extended sessions. PS - the swag was reasonably priced there. Stopped in today. Amid COVID, we were unsure. Every staff was wearing masks. Required to wear masks when moving around. Most of the dining room was blocked off. Excellent food. We had the thunderbird chicken burger and avocado tacos. Burger was nicely seared and the Swiss cheese and mustard coleslaw provided a tangy twist. The avocado tacos were an interesting choice and the sauce was fruity and spicy. They make their own beer and so choices are somewhat limited. But the selection spanned IPA to a grapefruit seltzer. We tried a variety of small plates (Brussels sprouts and white bean dip) and both were fabulous. We had $3 beer specials and then our mains of fish and chips, wasabi crusted salmon, and carne asada with sides of mac and cheese and broccoli for the table. We all liked our mains, I especially liked the flavorful simplicity of the carne. The mac and cheese was a bit grainy and the broccoli was alright, we probably could have done without the additional plates as we were stuffed!
