I had a really frustrating experience here and won't be returning…read more I scheduled a routine cleaning and X-rays, but the appointment took almost 2 hours. A large portion of the visit was spent going over "problem areas" and being shown things that felt more like an upsell than necessary care. During the appointment, I was also strongly encouraged to proceed with a deep cleaning/scaling treatment quoted around $2,500. The way it was presented felt very pushy and overwhelming, especially considering I came in for a routine visit. The bigger issue came afterward with billing. I later found out that multiple X-ray codes were submitted, and my insurance flagged some of them as duplicate or beyond what is typically covered. Because of that, I ended up with an unexpected out-of-pocket charge. None of this was clearly explained in advance. I was not told that additional imaging or services could result in extra costs, and I would not have agreed to anything beyond a standard cleaning and X-rays if it had been communicated properly. I understand wanting to be thorough, but transparency and patient comfort matter. Between the upselling pressure, the length of the visit, and the billing confusion, the experience left a very negative impression.

The service has degraded, on all levels. You make an appointment, give your ins info, confirm the appt...all set. Then you get a reminder 5 days before the appointment, then about 3 days before, each time I respond yes, confirmed, complete all the pre appointment intake forms, etc...should be all set, right? NOPE. 2 days before the appt., another text to confirm, then the day before they send a text threatening to cancel my appt if i don't confirm by 6pm today. Really? I still kept my appt., went in on time in the afternoon, 1pm est and waited for about 30-40 min for the dentist. I wonder...can I charge him a late fee? Ha... Meanwhile, while in the waiting room...I can clearly hear the employees at the front desk area talking about people once they hang up the phone, it was bad. It was so uncomfortable because I am sure they talk negative about me as well since I am a patient...I mean, why wouldnt they, right? Now to the visit.. He walks in, I'm chatting friendly and he turns around with a needle in his hand coming for me mouth. I swear I instantly had a flash of Steve Martin and Bill Murray in the Little Shop of Horrors movie 'Dentist'! I asked for a numbing gel since I have Very sensitive teeth and am being seen by a Periodontist still but I have to also continue to be seen by a general dentist. When I asked, the expression on his face was not understanding at all, he looked pretty annoyed that I asked. Moving on to perform 3 fill-ins...Never asked me how I'm doing during the work but conversed with the assistant about personal stuff, like where they like to eat...who di what to who at the party...the entire time. I felt un important to him, and almost like he was annoyed to be servicing me. Now, about 3 weeks post fill-ins, I am in pain on 1 side he worked on but I will not make the mistake of going back to him to fix it...what did Bush say? Fool me once shame on you, fool me 2x shame on... hahaha I'm done now, will be switching my entire family to another general dentist. This practice must not want or need our business. I am not the type of person to settle when it comes to medical...anything.

Dr. Applestein was fast and…read moreefficient and really appreciate the technique used when giving Novocaine shots which has been very unpleasant for me in the past- he tightly pinched and shook cheek while administering the shots so when they came I barely felt them. Wish all dentists would do this! Waiting room and facilities were clean, comfortable, and modern. Lots of parking available on tree lined street in nice neighborhood. However the real treasure here and the reason am posting what is only my second Yelp review is the support staff. I've literally never dealt with kinder and more empathetic people. Professional, reliable, friendly- the list goes on and on. Everyone there went out of their way to make me feel comfortable in a difficult situation and helped me out from the first phone call to the last visit. It's impossible to overstate this. If you get an appointment here you are lucky. Highly recommended.

This dentist should be ashamed of himself. He was the most unfriendly dentist I've ever…read moreencountered. During my consultation, which I was not informed about beforehand since my regular dentist had already taken X-rays and confirmed the need for a root canal, I was only seen for a mere 1-2 minutes. He completely ignored me, not even making eye contact, didn't ask if I had any questions or concerns, or even mentioning his name. He told me that one of the two teeth my regular dentist recommended did not need a root canal and that I had to wait for insurance approval for the one that did. After the procedure was approved, I never received a call from the office to schedule. I had to call several times to follow up. The appointment was set months away, which is obviously not ideal for a tooth with an infection that urgently needed a root canal. During my next visit, which was scheduled in the middle of winter, there was no heat in most of the building, including the waiting room, bathroom, and procedure room. The waiting room and bathroom were the only clean areas of the office, which should have been a clear indicator of the overall cleanliness of the facility. The equipment was dusty, dirty, and greasy, and the dentist didn't even use any numbing cream before the injections. Instead, he just shook my cheek! The amount of Novocaine used was insufficient, and I cried out multiple times for him to pay attention. After I cried out, he would repeatedly and aggressively grab my chin and thrust it upward. After this procedure, which involved an infection in my jaw, I was offered no pain medication. He simply told me to use over-the-counter Tylenol and to expect pain for up to two weeks. Again, he ignored me, didn't mention his name, or even acknowledge that I had any questions or concerns. He was annoyed when I asked him to repeat some instructions, as I had headphones on to cancel out some noise and calm my anxiety. Both times, he essentially ran out of the room without a goodbye or acknowledgment of my thank you. The nurse and receptionist were both polite compared to the dentist. This location is quite unusual because it's a residential home without parking. Your driver is not allowed to enter the building. During both visits, I was given inaccurate timing. Since my driver could make it home in just 10 minutes and get settled in, I was done with the dentist and needed him to return. The uphill driveway was covered in ice, which was extremely unsafe for patients, especially those who were advised not to drive. I would not recommend this place to anyone. 10/10 would NEVER RECOMMEND!! 0 out of 5 stars.

Then I realized: 1) Equipment is outdated 2) Office staff is overworked and unfriendly 3) Due to the small size of the office, their hours are limited--good luck if you work a 9-5 job... 4) Despite my warnings that I am one of those fair-skinned, red-in-the-hair people nearly immune to Novocaine, the staff insisted that I was 'imagining' feeling the drill and the stake-like thing in my tooth. Well, I definitely know what it's like to NOT feel the pain and that was pretty damn painful. 5) I've never been to a place that has more trouble getting a good x-ray--and they caused pain to do it. Went to another place and they did a whole set much easier. Must be more outdated equipment. 6) If your dental practices aren't perfect, you'll get lectured. They didn't care about the fact that I was unemployed, had no money, or that rent came before dental care in the past--they saw that when I went there I was employed and had the money for it so I got the lecture each time. Go find a dentist that does high-tech stuff instead. This one made it like my dental problems were end-of-the-world. I went to a better place in Philly and they did all x-rays, started work, and provided me with a comprehensive dental plan all in an hour's time. Don't expect less ... and don't expect a pain-free experience here. I've never had pain at another dentist or dental specialist--not even when I had wisdom teeth removed and a root canal. Here a regular checkup and 'scaling' was murder.

Of the dozen or so dentists I have seen in my life, I rate Dr. Cadieux and Dr. Pfarrer-Dazen as the best.
