Don't let the decor of this place fool you, if you want competent and affordable care, this is the place to go. I've been to snazzy offices that has the wow factor but no substance, but Dr. Schall is not only extremely knowledgeable, but it is his philosophy to give you the most cost effective treatment possible. I suffer from chronic eczema and have been to a handful of doctors but just could not get it under control. I went to Dr. Schall 3 times and I haven't had a flare up since! And the creams he prescribed were $10 or less. Whenever anyone needs a good derm, I always mention his name. I just came home from my first visit with Dr. Schall. I'm so happy with my experience that I actually want to write a review right away (this is my first review ever on Yelp). If this is a bit too long/detailed for you, just skip to the end. Note: This was my first visit to a dermatologist ever. I had avoided it, trying over-the-counter drugs, prescribed medicine, and home remedies to no avail. I finally got tired of it all and decided it was time to see a specialist. That is when I found Dr. Schall on Yelp and decided to give him a try due to his stellar(pun intended) reviews. When I arrived at the office, I was the only person in the waiting room. One person came in later for an appointment 15 minutes after my appointment time. I waited for less than 10 minutes before being seen. Both the receptionist and the PA I spoke to before seeing Dr. Schall were easy to talk to and helpful. Dr. Schall himself has a very lively personality and was extremely personable as well. I really felt as if i was just talking to a good friend during the entire consultation. I was seeing him for three different issues I had, and he addressed each one with full detail while explaining the causes and prevention techniques for each of my problems. After discussing each issue, he gave me drug samples to treat it. Throughout the entire visit he also continually gave me lifestyle and diet advice to improve my conditions and overall health. I'd like to emphasize that HE REALLY WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND what I believe I had paid for. Here are some examples of this: 1. When I mentioned that I was taking medication for gastritis(to make sure I wouldn't have any drug interactions), he gave me advice on how to prevent gastritis(it's a stomach problem not a skin one) and pointed out a behavior of mine which I didn't realize was a source of the problem(laying down soon after eating). He then of course proceeded to prescribe medicine which wouldn't exacerbate the gastritis. 2. When I asked where I should get my prescription filled, he recommended a pharmacy not too far away, and even called that pharmacy so that they would have my prescription ready when I arrived there. 3. When I told Dr. Schall that I didn't have medical insurance, he made every effort to minimize my costs while treating my conditions effectively. When I left the office, the receptionist casually noted that he had really taken his time with me. When I said "Yeah, I feel bad(about it)." she reassured me that I didn't need to because it just meant he was thorough. I then noticed that the entire waiting room was packed. He had given me about double as much time as was allotted. I know this may sound like a negative, but I'd like to stress that it is something very positive. He really helped me in every way possible and gave as much time to me as was necessary for me to have peace of mind before leaving his office. In other words, the wait may sometimes be longer than expected, but realize that it is the result of the great attention he gives to all of his patients (I overheard him conversing with a patient before he saw me). I realize that this review may seem a bit biased since it's possible that I got extraordinary treatment as a result of it being my first visit. However, every interaction I had seemed genuine and any practice/doctor which gives this level of service (first visit or not) deserves some praise. I finally have positive prospects for all of my skin conditions and I'm feeling happier in general because these problems have really been causing me a lot of grief for the past few months. TL;DR I highly recommend Dr. Schall. He is an extremely caring, knowledgeable, and friendly doctor. If you want great service and attention, Dr. Schall is the dermatologist to go to. read more

Receptionist can come across as a bit rude, but Dr. Schall is SO AWESOME. One time I had an emergency, he volunteered to squeeze me in during his lunch break. And then he even gave me his cell phone number and said if it gets worse over the weekend but the office is closed, I can call him. Clean and old school looking office. Dr Schall has gentle hands and works pretty fast and painless. I asked him to remove a Seborrheic keratosis on my chest and he ordered a lab exam for it which I found out to be benign after 2 weeks. I was there for 30 mins from signing in to getting my next schedule. He is thorough and quick. He doesn't have time for chit chats and goes directly to work. If you are lookinh for a pro derma, consider this clinic. Takes PPO. Parking is provided at the back office. A little bit hard to find even if it is located in the main Garfield street since most offices beside this clinic looks just like it and being in the main Garfield street makes it hard to slow down because of the busy traffic. I always get lost or drive by past it. But it's no big deal. I think it's just me. Front desk always makes sure they call a day prior for an appointment reminder. read more

Another 5 stars! After years of foot problems, getting worse and worse, they are finally on the way to being gone! GP's, and in one case, a dermatologist who I was referred to, never did more than treat the symptoms. Some of them actually spelled out that I could expect this problem for life. My only remedy was to treat the symptoms. Not Dr. Schall. He took one look at the atrocious condition of my feet, and announced that we needed to eliminate the cause of the problem. Without asking me how long the problem had been going on, he stated that, since this problem had been going on for a long time, it wouldn't clear up immediately, but we were going to get it. I had trotted in all the remedies I'd been using - prescription and over the counter. He pronounced them all worthless except one. Of course, because they were all only for the symptoms, except that one. But that one had not worked, so he gave me a prescription that he said was better. 3 DAYS LATER, my feet are better than they have been in years! Yes, the prescription cost me - $41. But is that worth it for a difference of night and day? You bet! Several reviewers have mentioned the difficulty of getting through on the phone. I myself experienced that, getting no answer on my only attempt. I live pretty close by Dr. Schall's office, so I just went there. Got the appointment scheduled for two days later. As for the office? Are you kidding me? Who cares whether the furniture looks like what a friend of mine once called "Early Garage"? I'm not there for the interior decorating! If you are - then go elsewhere. I made an appointment for my husband, because he was having a very bad eczema flareup, and was extremely dry and flaky all over his body. Dr. Schall loaded him up with prescription ointment which worked within the first two days!! The doctor visit cost basically covered the cost of all the samples of ointments, lotions, and cleansers he gave my husband. Very pleased!! read more

So I was desperately looking for a dermatologist and I came across this while searching on yelp. I seen that every single review was 5stars and everyone had nothing, but good things to say so I was a little iffy thinking "it was too good to be true" anyways I had an consultation this morning for a removal on my face. I don't want to jump on the bandwagon, but Dr. Schall is amazing!!!!! He answered all my questions, extremely nice, very knowledgeable, calmed me down when it was time to num my face with shots lol he even knew I didn't have insurance and did a removal and sent to the lab for only $190 (that was including the consolation fee so I only had to pay $20 more) my appointment was at 10:30 and I was leaving home by 10:40!!!!! I will come back for all my dermatologist needs!!! I even recommend my mom and sister to go in next week. I highly highly recommend this place. I am so HAPPY & GRATEFUL I found Dr. Schall. My previous dermatologist had retired and I had no one until I read a favorable review. YES, HE IS THE REAL DEAL! Initially, I went in for something on my face, then Schall quickly discovered a lesion on my left shoulder. He took a biopsy and sent it off to the lab. The very next day, Dr. Schall personally called me and told me the pathologist report discovered Level two melanoma...and I have the outer edges surgically cut out. He referred and even help set up my appointment with a colleague of his in Pasadena..a plastic surgeon/dermatologist...Dr. Marilyn A Mehlmauer, MD - Pasadena - Pasadena. She was excellent as well...and performed the surgey right in her office. Now I am cancer free.and all otther legions that were excised from Dr. Schall were THANK GOD benign.. I was skeptical about going to a dermatologist for my keloid scars from my surgery dated back in 2012 because one, it's been 3 years, two, I've tried tea tree oil, silicon pads, and everything else just to minimize the scar and nothing worked, three, I was losing hope. My wedding date is coming closer and closer so I decided to try one last time to fix these scars. I went on yelp, searched keloid scars, and see what/who pops up. Luckily, I found Dr. Schall! My keloid scar was protruding about 3mm out and after two sessions with Dr. Schall they are nearly flat now! The color of the scar will not go away but the size of the protrusion definitely shrunk dramatically. You are in and out of Dr. Schall's in 30 minutes. He's a very sweet gentleman that will explain to you what you've got, give you a few shots in the scar, and you're out and about. I highly recommend Dr. Schall! read more

If you need a dermatologist, you can't go wrong with Dr. Schall. He is incredibly knowledgeable, professional and friendly...everything I look for in a doctor. It was my first visit so I didn't know what to expect. After I filled out a short form, I waited in the lobby for less than 5 minutes before I was called in...YES, less than 5 minutes. A nurse took my information and Dr. Schall came in soon after. I had a mole that I wanted removed and some acne scars that I wanted looked at. Dr. Schall got the procedures done and I was out of there in less than 20 minutes flat. I didn't feel rushed. He was just that efficient. Dr Schall gave me a few free samples and a couple of prescriptions. What I really appreciate is the fact that he took the time to inform me about the cost of the medicines he prescribed and the generic drugs that are available in the event that my insurance doesn't cover them. Had my first visit with him this week to have a mole/keloid removed, and he did the job perfectly and gently. Dr. Schall's office is small, friendly, and so comfortable - no Beverly Hills pretense or arrogance, and nobody pushing you to buy overpriced products!! If I could give this doctor no stars I would. During my doctor visit he kept coming back in and out of the room to talk to his bank regarding his credit card. Even his nurse was annoyed by his rude behavior. When he would come back to the room he would ask me what was going on and where did we leave off at. He told me a mole on my back could be cancerous and maybe it could not be. He told me to leave that mole on my back. I told him no. I had him remove it because I didn't want to have a mole that had a possibility of being cancerous. Then he said the results for that mole he removed would be mailed to me. The results were never mailed to me! Just a bill! When I called the company that ran the results they said that Dr. Shall was the one that was supposed to mail them to me. Then Dr. Shall told my boyfriend he needed a bump on his eyelid removed. When Dr. Shall was trying to remove it he burned my boyfriend's eyelid in the wrong spot and didn't even remove the bump. He told my boyfriend that he did not think the bump was going to come off and offered my boyfriend a free flu shot instead. I will never go back to this doctor. I would not recommend him to no one. I have to wait till January 6 till he is back from his vacation to call back so he can mail me my results. This doctor visit was a waste of time and money. NEVER AGAIN!!! read more

Came to see Dr. Schall as a referral from my MD. I've been wanting a mole removed from in between my eyebrows for a long time but never worked up the courage for fear of scaring my face. Long story short, my family encouraged me to follow through with the referral--Dr.Schall is punctual, had a loud voice but is not intimidating, he listened to me...even tried to tell me I look beautiful and that the mole wasn't noticeable and that since it was benign--just leave it alone! They were all honest & professional medical opinions but I still wanted it gone. He laid down the law and told me up front--I'll do it for you, it'll be painless and I don't think it will grow back BUT it may leave a tiny scar and take up to 6 months for the pink scar tissue to fade. With all that, I still proceeded....makeup works wonders! Needless to say, I had my mole removed (PAINLESSLY) 4 months ago, it healed in 5 weeks! And, I have NO scar! I've seen dr. Schall twice since then and I couldn't be happier! He's a down to earth guy, who hears you out and actually has a great sense of humor! I can't tell for sure if this doctor does what he is suppose to do, but for my visit, the wait is fair, the visit is kinda short, office seems to be old but clean. I visited Dr. Schall for skin allergy, my skin issues come back on and off without knowing why.... so I really needed a Dr to write me a prescription for a skin test to find out what I am allergic to. At his office, I requested three times from him to give me a prescription for allergy test and he just waived my request and insist I don't need it. He didn't ask about my history of this skin allergies and didn't seem to want to know what I want or need and was not interest in hearing how frustrated I am with this condition and would like to see an end to it. He gave me non fragrance lotions and a shot to rid the inflammation. And a prescription for eczema cream, I don't have eczema on my face and neck, I am pretty sure I am allergic to something.
