We came in for an eye exam covered under TRICARE. The exam itself was fine, but when we were already checked out and about to leave, we reminded her that we wanted to order contacts. At that point, we were suddenly hit with a $150 charge for a "contact lens fitting." No one disclosed upfront that this would be an out-of-pocket expense not covered by TRICARE. Instead, the charge was added at the very end, after services were already performed. That is not transparency -- that is a bait-and-switch tactic. We called for weeks leaving voicemails checking on our prescription and no call back. ONLY when calling back we spoke to a representative that told us the contacts were never ordered and we were charged that fee which was never explained to us at all. To make matters worse, the employee checking us out, Karen, was rude and dismissive. She acted like she didn't want to be there or do her job. When we asked for a copy of our prescription (which is our legal right), she avoided giving it to us until we asked multiple times. By law (FTC Contact Lens Rule), providers are required to release prescriptions after fittings without patients having to beg for them. The fact that she withheld it until we pressed is extremely concerning and unprofessional. After leaving, I found other reviews describing the exact same problem -- people being charged $100-$150 at checkout with no proper explanation, and walking out with nothing but the trial lenses in their eyes. This shows a clear pattern of misleading billing practices and withholding prescriptions, not just an isolated mistake. Patients deserve honesty, respect, and compliance with the law. What we got instead was rudeness, surprise billing, and the feeling of being taken advantage of. If you're military or TRICARE, be especially cautious here. They advertise being in-network, but you will still get hit with hidden charges that TRICARE doesn't cover. I will be reporting this clinic to TRICARE, the Oklahoma Board of Optometry, and the FTC for investigation.

This was my encounter with Stanton optical on Sheridan. My wife and I went there because the last…read moreoptometrist wouldn't accept the new insurance offered thru my place of employment. First of all, I called the phone number to arrange an appointment. The gentleman was very pleasant. Stanton could see us that day. It wasn't until I received the conformation text, that I found out the appointment was for McCallan TX....not Lawton OK....so another phone call ensured. My wife and I had appointments at the same time....it makes it easy. Had to answer the complete questionnaire...again, not an issue. I wear contacts, and so had to remove mine for a through eye exam. My wife wears glasses. So, after the exam, was when we found out that our insurances don't stack. My health insurance allows an eye exam every other year. The vision plan allows an eye exam every year. Because of this....we have virtually no out of pocket expenses every year. We found out that Stanton doesn't allow the plans to stack....so you can't use both to pay.....so we had small co pays....unusual....but not an issue. From reading everything, I was aware that the optometrist was telemed.....IE, you see and speak to the Dr over video....I WASN'T aware that we would have NO CONTACT with him at all. The physician is D.O.....not an ophthalmologist....nor an optometrist. The physician wouldn't fill the contact prescription because my eyes were irritated from taking out my contacts (and allergies), but I wasn't allowed to speak to him.....but I was allowed to come back in for another eye exam within the next 30 days (for free....after that I would have to pay). So, I paid for an eye exam, but no contacts. My wife had decided on the 2 pairs of glasses for 79 dollars....which wound up being 212.00. Multifocal.....polycarbonate, antiglare...etc (they upcharge you for everything) This is 212 out of pocket....never had to pay that before....but we were told that it would be more expensive if we used the insurance. My wife had broken her glasses.....so we had to do something.....so OK....FINE. A week later the glasses came in. We went to pick them up.....the girl there very nice, but the glasses were NOT fitted in ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. So Lawton....RUN, don't WALK AWAY from STANTON OPTICAL on Sheridan and GORE.

This was on my follow-up appointment on February 14th, 2024. I could not see anything out of my left eye. My concerns were ignored by all individuals involved. I was treated extremely rudely. The response was. We'll see you tomorrow to do surgery on your next eye. I explained to them again I could not see out of my left eye and I did not want to proceed with the right eye until the left eye was corrected. They did not have any concern or care for loss of vision in my left eye. They kept trying to proceed with the surgery on my right eye the next day which I refused. They angrily canceled my surgery. I have never in my 66 years of life been treated so bad at a medical facility. I went to Oklahoma City to have my Right eye done at another eye center. I would not recommend young eye institute to anyone based off of my experience there. It was totally unprofessional.
