I had a great experience flying into and out of Terminal 5 at LAX. I typically prefer those red eye flights for a better experience at the airport.

I'll start by saying that I am biased as my favorite LAX terminal is #7. Flying out of terminal 5 sucks. You catch all the traffic if the airport and you can't escape it. I'd recommend parking at 7 which you can enter from a shortcut right as you enter the airport. Feels like a hack!

Just another reason not to like LA... Very few eating choices in this terminal, and all of them are super expensive. I can't imagine if you are middle class person with a family of four coming here to go on a trip and you have to start it out by spending $150 to feed your family burgers and fries! You can do better than this LAX, this is LA for crying out effing loud, get some good restaurants in here !!! And if you can't get good restaurants in here, at least get a McDonald's or Burger King, a place that won't rip us off !

Older terminal w rare charging stations, smelly musty old carpets, and the most obnoxious not open overnight Mexican restaurant called Loteria that blasted their music all morning from the time I was here for a long layover from 10pm to 8am. It's obnoxious bc not only did none of the airline customers not ask for it at all while people were trying to sleep in the worst airline chairs overnight (these are the standard old ones from over 15 years ago it seems with arm rests in between and almost no charging stations) but it's music they are enjoying blasting for themselves and their image and they didn't ask if anyone wants to listen to it. This should not be airline music for T5 bc that's what it became. I can understand quiet classical music that is soothing and neutral but this was too much and too loud. I have never been at an airport where a restaurant gets to blast their music overnight to torment customers before their flights. So the rating includes Loteria and Terminal 5 allowing this to happen. Very distasteful for a major international airport and hub for so many major airlines. I will avoid T5 as much as I can. I can handle the fact that money is not yet being put into renovating this terminal but I can't accept T5 allowing Loteria to keep their music on all night and at such a loud noise level.

What an amazing flight. Highly recommend flying American Airlines. The staff and flight crew were excellent. The seats were comfortable and the complimentary snacks were delicious.

Super easy to navigate and always bright and clean! I love they have a Rock n Brew and a great American Admirals lounge.

Leaving on a jet plane... Lots of construction going on in LAX so expect delays aside from traffic. Limited staff on Sundays which is surprising; you'd think they were busier today. Had to take a bus to gate 52C. Grab snacks, food or coffee on the main gate. One small shop without a lot of options. No water refill station either at this gate. Can't wait for the construction to be finished and the train.

I normally fly with American Airlines. The bulk of their flights are out of terminal 4, but some will be out of terminal 5. From time to time, I'll fly with JetBlue where their flights are out of terminal 5. There are several stores such as Magic Johnson Sports, I Love LA, FAO Schwarz, and Rip Curl to pick up some last minute souvenirs. When I want something to eat, I'll pick up a snack over at the Farmers Market.

At American Airlines Terminal 5 for food the Farmer's Market is usually my go-to spot for a quick breakfast. They serve decent bagel, ham and cheese sandwiches or the same sandwich with an english muffin. There are a variety of sit down restaurants in Terminal 5, but the Farmer's Market seems to be the only one open at 5:00am. Expect a line when you go.

Ask the Community - LAX Terminal 5

Are we required to show the proof of vaccination card, before entering the airport?

No, proof of vaccine is not required. I've flown domestic every week for the past few months and they never ask. Not sure about international, or Hawaii. They usually have their own protocols that don't always line up with domestic protocols..

Can I take my dog to airport to wait for picking up someone?

    Yes, on a leash.

Also, quick side note Terminal B is also Terminal 4. This can create confusion at times if your boarding pass says Terminal B and it does not show on the LAX maps online. Why this is, I do not know, but it's a thing. There are also wide disparities in amenities at certain terminals and gates compared to others. For example, if you happen to find yourself in the vary isolated area of gates 45- 48 in Terminal 4, the only places to grab food are a market or a hotdog vendor, so you may want to venture all the way to the main terminal to grab food. Speaking of grabbing food, no matter where you eat at LAX, be prepared to throw down at least $40 per person. This is at the casual eateries, not even the sit down restaurants. The restroom facilities are fine and are in various stages of improvement, but there could be more restrooms spread throughout to alleviate some of the lines. The car rental situation at LAX is also easy to navigate which is another plus and is very fast. Overall, LAX is pretty good considering how busy it is, but high prices at eateries and pockets of construction make it slightly annoying. It doesn't come close to the calm and elevation of say a Changi or Doha, but it works with what it's got. Terminal 4 is about as close to nice as it gets, but for a Global Alpha City like LA, the airport still has a long way to go to bring it to where is should be.

In California, you wouldn't expect a public space like LAX to feel this extreme when it comes to…read morepricing. The cost of food and drinks here is shockingly high--enough to make you wonder if you accidentally walked into Dodger stadium instead of an airport. Arriving hungry with a family can quickly turn into sticker shock, and you'll find yourself questioning whether your credit limit is going to be enough to cover a simple meal. To put it in perspective, chips and salsa run about $16.85, and even guacamole is an extra $3.00 on top of that. A Monster energy drink that's normally around $3.89 at an ARCO can be nearly $8 here. It's hard not to notice how inflated everything feels. Some may argue airport pricing is always higher, but other airports like SLC or MSP don't seem to take it to this level. Even compared to places like Las Vegas, LAX feels especially aggressive. Unless you have no other option, consider eating before you arrive--or flying first class, where at least the dining experience might feel more reasonable than the concessions at LAX. You'd think organized crime was in charge at this airport but I don't even think the mob would inflate prices this much.

This general aviation airport, naturally long favorite of celebrities & biz heads, had its share of public scrutiny just like many other non commercial airports in California. Historic significance lays in the fact that famous DC-3 & military aircraft was produced by Douglas Aircraft Co in Santa Monica at the airport before it had moved to Long Beach.
