It also tends to offer lower priced domestic and international tickets, in most cases. For this reason, there is always a high volume of people who pass through LAX on a daily basis. So, plan accordingly! Although I have arrived less than 2 hours before departure to an international flight, I do not recommend it. Sometimes I've barely made it to my flight due to long TSA lines. If you plan to dine/shop at LAX, give yourself an additional couple of hours. Service is not always timely, so you don't want to be stuck waiting to close out a check or waiting in line to be rung up. Lastly, keep in mind that some dining/shopping options might be available in a specific terminal or in arrivals or departures and you can't easily go in between these areas. All in all, LAX is a powerhouse and with it comes good and bad. Keep your expectations realistic and give yourself more time than you think you'll need in order to have the best possible outcome while you're here. Happy travels!

Arriving at LAX I had no issues as we de-boarded. I just don't like the long walk from the deboarding to the luggage claim. After our trip and heading out I noticed that getting to the airport took awhile with the traffic so always prepare for that. When we got there we walked in, checked our bags and had no issues. Going through security there really wasn't a wait and I didn't have any issues. This time around my oldest son had an issue with his Real ID. The person working there was friendly and patient. She even got a supervisor to come and help. They said that they knew that the ID matched my son but were having issues with Real IDs for everyone under 21 years old. They eventually let him through the line. Once through security we found a place to eat and then headed to our gate. Overall I'd say the people that work there are friendly. No real issues checking in our luggage. I just don't like the long walk to pick up the luggage. The security was actually really good. I liked how kind and patient they were with us during the ID issue. There is still ongoing construction but I only saw it through the windows.

For an international gateway in a city like Los Angeles, I expected a bit more. The food options are pretty mid. There are enough choices to get by, but nothing that really stands out or makes arriving early worthwhile. I had not flown in or out of LAX for years. Inside was very clean, lots of new shopping experiences, food, etc. the line to check in to our gate was short and moved fast, the security line was also very quick. Could have been we were there at 6am, but either way a much better experience than my previous ones. Traffic getting too and leaving LAX is still a bear and why I am leaving this as 4 stars. It is such a pain driving there and driving back, the round about can be difficult as well, but it is mainly the freeways that are the headache. Overall, very happy with my recent experience at LAX and I would consider traveling through there again when I have to, but the traffic still does not make it my first choice, although they have made tons of great improvements to LAX overall. I used to arrive at LAX (Los Angeles International Airport), but in stopped because Hawaiian Airlines got moved over to Tom Bradley Airport (International Flights) instead of being at Terminal 5. I strongly disliked dragging my luggage from Tom Bradley Airport to Terminal 5 where the rental car shuttles were. I tried Long Beach Airport, but they close early and so do the Rental Car Companies... then I get stuck without a rental car if my flight is delayed. I switched to Ontario International Airport, but this time, I needed a red eye flight which LAX had because of the merger with Alaska Airlines. It's complex, but there are some benefits (such as more flight chouces) to switching back to LAX. I'm super happy that we landed at Terminal 6. Why? 1. The rental car shuttles stop here! 2. There are several restrooms between the gate and Baggage Claim 3. Directional signs are clear and numerous 4. The environment is modern, bright, spacious, and clean. Perhaps I will return to Terminal 6 in the near future!

Staff generally are annoyed but not as bad as JFK. They ain't winning awards for customer service but they do explain things pretty well. This time around I flew out of gate 52D. If you're in any of the 52 gates other than A or B, know that you need to get to the 52 gate and then you'll have to chat with a gate agent, scan your boarding pass, then take another bus to your gate. Thats how big LAX is. You need to jump on another 5 minute shuttle ride to get to your gate. The 52 gates aren't world class. It's pretty old. Probably just neglected since most of the flights here are regional / short distance flights. There's flights to Seattle, Bay Area, etc from here. Overall verdict - you could certainly do worse. But for how big it is, I think it's a pretty well oiled machine. And that in of itself earns a 3 star from me.

The layout of Gate 71 made things a little tight and chaotic at times but overall a great event to see in LAX.

The main Terminal for united airlines is dated and shows the signs of decades of heavy use. As with most of LAX it needs some serious attention and modernization. That being said it is functional and while it might not be spotless it serves its' purpose. Airplanes come and go, passengers move through steadily, and the hustle and bustle stays around. There are restaurants and stores in the Terminal for passengers and employees. I fly through Terminal 7 fairly frequently. It's one of the better laid out Terminals at lax.

AUTOMATED PEOPLE MOVER There should be an elevated electric train called the automated people mover (APM) linking light rail, terminals, and parking and rental cars for use this year, pending successful testing. Hope to see this soon, as it's very much needed to alleviate traffic on roads.
