Firstly. I was 12. They TRICKED ME into thinking I needed braces for the tiny gap between my front two teeth, but told me it would be for MAXIMUM a year and a half. No. It was five years of braces that I didn't need in the first place. Not only did they get me to put braces on my top teeth but also my bottom teeth that had nothing wrong with them to begin with AND I was later told by a dentist that my bottom teeth were extremely undersized to be putting brackets on them. After I had to have my dentist SEND A DOCTORS NOTE ORDERING THEM TO TAKE THE BRACES OFF they finally took them off after a year of me and my grandmother begging them to. Yeah my teeth were slightly straighter. I also had 9 cavities I had to get filled because they refused to ever take off the braces so I could get my teeth properly cleaned. After I got those cavities filled my retainer didn't fit. Orthodontist refused to give me or make me a new one. So now my teeth look the same as before anyways. The old guy who runs it IS CREEPY in my opinion and awkward. I am BEYOND angry with this establishment. I have HORRIBLE gum decay and recession from this entire experience because they were money hungry and cared more about that then the 12 year old's oral health. I am 20 now and got my braces off at 17 and STILL AM SUFFERING THE CONSEQUENCES. Don't go here. read more

I can't express my gratitude enough. My 4 year old jumped off the couch and hurt a tooth badly. Dr.Savage was the only doctor I had contacted that called me back (accident happened at 7:30PM). I've gone to Laxer Long and Savage for eight years now. I've have Dr. Laxer do my cleanings and Dr. Long do my ortho. Both doctors are absolutely wonderful--they are personable, thorough, and make sure the patient is taken care of. I could not recommend them enough. They truly know what they're doing. The hygienists are where LL&S falters a little. Some of them are great--quick, efficient, personable, and knowledgeable. Some are more concerned with talking to their friends than spending their effort on the patient. They make the patient feel like they're intruding on their conversations. I've found this group to be the minority, but they are definitely present. The place is huge--they probably have about 20 chairs. The wait used to be horrendous--if you had a 2:00 appointment, you'd be seen at 2:30 or 2:40. It has definitely gotten better as of late--you'll usually wait less than 15 minutes. LL&S is in a convenient location and I couldn't trust the doctors more. Most of the hygienists are great--I'd feel comfortable recommending LL&S for both pediatric dentistry and orthodontics. read more

Dr. Savage and the other dentists and staff here are amazing! We've had some bad experiences at other local pediatric dentists, but in spite of all that, my kids still like going to the dentist thanks to these amazing people! They've even fixed faulty dental work done elsewhere on my kids, and we can't thank them enough for their care of our family. read more

Dr. Laxer or Savage was on call and sent in an antibiotic for my daughters tooth that was abcessed. So that was so wonderful since we were in Florida. Unfortunately when we went to get the tooth pulled Dr. Laurie reprimanded me for my daughter being scared and decided to 1. Pull the tooth at another visit and prescribe Valium to calm her or 2. Refer her to an oral surgeon. My husband and I decided to find another dentist who would pull the tooth even though out daughter was anxious. At the new dentist office it took about 20 mins to calm her and he pulled it by only using local numbing. I think Dr. Laurie didn't want to be the bad guy and at the end of the day she is a dentist not practicing psychologist. This is her background so she took the easy way out. So only see Dr. Laurie if your child had no dental issues because she will make you feel small. Even though my daughter has asthma and Is on breathing treatments that possiblly caused the cavities. She never eats candy and brushes well. Dr. Jason at Matthews Pediatric was on board to see her through the anxiety and she is happier than ever about getting her tooth pulled. read more

**I speak for only the orthodontic practice, not the dental.** As a longtime client of Laxer, Long & Savage, I have found their orthodontic practice to be severely lacking in common decency and basic compassion. While some of their employees break the plastic, Barbie-doll mold and truly do care about their patients, there are quite a few who do not possess the slightest bit of professionalism, treating their patients as numbers in the system. In many instances, no accommodations are made for those clearly not comfortable or in distress. I have had many experiences with employees who will be downright rude to children - one in particular went so far as to put sarcastic comments in a child's medical records. I simply cannot recommend a company that puts so little value on the needs of their clients. read more

I thought finding a dentist for my son would be easy. At first it was but after a horrible experience at the one he had been going to I needed to find a new one and fast. I reached out to a friend and was referred to Laxer, Long & Savage; specifically Dr. Sonny Long. Both Dr. Long and his daughter are absolutely amazing. I've never seen dentists so friendly and caring. They take the time to talk to you about everything and do their best to make sure you don't have to worry about anything unexpected financially. They don't push to have things done that simply don't make sense at the time (i.e. a cavity in a baby tooth that isn't causing pain/problems doesn't need to be worked on). This is something I continue to be impressed by especially as the prior dentist worked under the opposite perspective. There have even been times they recommended something and when I asked if my insurance would cover it, they told me that if not, they would. After feeling so often that the only goal of the prior dentist was to get more money from me (and boy did I give them a lot), it's an amazing feeling to know that this practice is more focused on caring for their patients. For that reason I was much more willing to sign up for orthodontic treatment for my son without concern that it wasn't needed. I know from experience that if this practice tells me something should be done, then it must have to be. The entire staff, from those working check-in, to the hygienists and dentists, are just awesome. If you are looking for a pediatric dentist and/or orthodontist, give this place a try. You won't go anywhere else once you do. read more

My son is a patient of this practice and absolutely hates going for Orthodontic treatment. The Orthodontists are great. Professional, friendly and patient with the children. The hygienists are another story. When they do interact with my son (instead of their coworkers) during his appointment He finds them to be rude and condescending. One asked him recently if he even brushed his teeth that day. If anyone else in my family requires treatment, it will NOT be with this practice. read more

I have to agree with most of the other posting. My daughters teeth are crooked in the front even though I have asked them repeatedly to have the actual ORTHODONTIST place the brackets (they ignore me). They hygienist do all the work, even when I know the treatments should be done by the orthodontist himself. There is not one once of recommendation I can give here. We have been patients there for 3 years now and there is such little in the way of caring that I would NEVER recommend this practice. read more

Don't go to this practice. I am in the medical field and wish I had NEVER found Dr. Long. The dental assistants do ALL the work, even when they shouldn't, like placing brackets and removing them. It is like a factory in there and NOBODY knows us after 2 years. They have to look at the pictures on the screens just to identify who my children are. I have never seen an orthodontist do so very little, he wanders from chair to chair--ZERO personality. I recommend you run....don't go here. read more

Awesome first time experience with a baby and toddler. If you have multiple kids, they'll schedule concurrent appointments and you can all go in one room together. The hygienist, Beth, was awesome at her job with a special kid-friendly bedside manner. Dr Savage seemed friendly and knowledgeable. The kids got a kick out of taking a pic with him at the end. Completing the visit with balloons and trinket toys was the icing on the cake. read more

These guys take on so many patients that it's become somewhat of an assembly line. They have no flexibility with appointments because of the volume and they'll literally leave your kid's braces on forever with no real explanation of why. Because they're so busy, communication is a big problem. They rush patients in and out and you always leave with so many unanswered questions about your child's situation. My son has had his braces on for SEVEN YEARS and it seems like we just keep going in circles. If you can find an orthodontist that can spend more time with you and be a bit more efficient, I'd go with them. read more

The office staff was nice but Dr. Laxer has issues with children that have special needs. My son had gone in for a cleaning when he was 5 years old. They used the back room because he has a lot of sensory issues. After the cleaning the hygienist came out to get me. I walked back and through the window saw Dr. Laxer speaking to me son with a very stern face. She was so close to his face that he was leaning backwards. I walked in and she jumped up with a smile and said he did good but he is going to try harder next time. She then looked at my son and said, "Right, __name removed__?" My son had his head down and did not respond. She rushed out and I was able to go around the table to see my son. He saw me and started weeping. Sobbing uncontrollably. He said, "Doctor don't like __name removed__". I cradled him and got out of there quickly. He cried all the way home. When we got home he kept saying the doctor didn't like him and that he was bad, he was not good. He said that she was mad at him. His entire demeanor was depressing. If you are a pediatric dentist should you not have patience for all children? Even those with special needs, like Autism. He has had this happen only one other time with a school teacher and it quickly came to light that she was bullying all the children in his classroom and she was fired immediately. Too bad Laxer is still a dentist. I wouldn't let her touch my dogs teeth. How does she sleep at night knowing that she put such a fear into children? To a child with limited speech, a child with autism. Thankfully my son has recovered, but it took about 5 years. He now goes to Pediatric Dentistry in Matthews. He has seen every dentist there and they are amazing! read more

My special needs son has been seeing Dr. Savage for several years and the entire practice has been great! Everyone has been helpful and wonderful - especially since he is non-verbal and does not really understand the process. They are patient and we have not had a negative experience. If you're planning to find a orthodontist for you child, please take it from someone who was a patient at this dentist place. I have been there since I was 5 and now at 15 I am planning to move away from this orthodontist. Back in the old day this place was great now its just not worth it. I saw 6 year old children with braces there. Every time I went they wanted to do something else that costed money and or another procedure to be done. I got braces to help with my jaw and we put down 5,000 dollars for braces after 2.5 years I have just found out that my teeth are shifting and my jaw is worse then it before it started. I had perfect teeth at the beginning to make sure they where going to stay straight they wired my top 4 teeth in order to keep them in line. I asked them why they did only the left but not the right. They stated that it would not matter and that the teeth would still come out strait in the end. BAD MISTAKE. Not only has my teeth shifted at the exact place I was asking them to fix I am going in to get a concealing for jaw surgery because my jaw is shifting so bad. The braces would have done no good and we payed 5000. The front desk is very sweet and nice but the hygienists look like there ready for the pageant. Its really uncomfortable to be there.
