We love Bird Pediatric Dentistry. I have 3 kids (6,8,10) and we have been seeing Dr. Bird for 5 years. The environment is super kid friendly and all of the staff is amazing with the kids. I have 2 that are a bit fitful about teeth cleaning, extractions and the silly fluoride at the end. But each time there has been an issue the staff has been patient, flexible and able to get what needs to be done done! We have LOTS of experience with extractions which are never fun but have gone smoothly each time. My kids never mind coming back. I shopped around for a dentist that also does orthodontics because I know we will need braces in the future. We have had 2 evaluations and after discussion with Dr. Bird, braces were not yet recommended. I appreciated the explanation and discussion she had with us regarding her recommended plan. I would recommend Dr. Bird and her staff to take awesome care of your kiddo no matter what type of dental patient they may be. read more

We had an incident a few weeks ago with one of our kids that required an emergency Friday night visit. Not only did Dr. Bird and her assisting Deysi get back to us within 10 minutes, but they had us in the office and taken care of within an hour. We have never seen such dedication and care for patients. We appreciate everything they did! read more

In November and December 2024, I paid for dental services for my daughter because we did not have Medicaid coverage at that time. Even though I told them that we are currently waiting for insurance and cannot afford to pay for multiple services, I clearly said that I only wanted to proceed with what was urgent for my daughter. Dr. Athena insisted on also doing a cleaning and a full dental x-ray examination, just so I would have to pay more out of pocket -- which clearly suited her. She didn't take into account that I only wanted the tooth extraction, the rest we would do once we have insurance. In the end, she convinced me to go ahead with procedures that weren't urgently necessary. But from that moment, I realized that, for them, money matters more than the patient's current situation. In February 2025, my daughter was approved for Medicaid, including retroactive coverage for the previous three months (November 2024 to January 2025). I explained this to the clinic and provided them with the official Medicaid approval letter confirming that my daugher was covered for those months, including November and December. The clinic scanned the letter and told me they submitted the necessary documentation to request payment from NC Medicaid for those visits. They received the payment from Medicaid by the end of March 2025. However, even though three months have passed, they still have not returned the amount I paid. I have followed up with them multiple times, and they continue to delay the refund, saying it will be reviewed by a manager or done at a later date. Despite these promises, no action has been taken. At this point, I am now going to file a complaint with the NC Medicaid Ombudsman and NC Department of Health and Human Services and after that I will go to the Office of the North Carolina Attorney General, which investigates cases where a clinic receives payment from both the patient and Medicaid, and then refuses to return the money to the person who is legally entitled to it. read more

Looks like a lot of Bad Reviews mentioned here and the Doctor plus the office is least concerned about these reviews. After 6 months of bad experience finally decided to put this review out, not sure these matters or not for them. For my kid's last visit, they charged us $150 upfront and then insurance paid them $150, it's been 6 months now with 8 to 10 follow-ups and still money is not refunded to us. Will you provide service without getting paid? so why to hold my money for 6 months? Do I have the option to call Collection Agency and demand for this money? The best part is their Finance manager is never available to connect. One of their team members spoke very rudely as if I owe them $150 and not them. As if she was doing a big favor of answering my questions, constantly cutting my conversation and extremely frustrated that why I don't have to wait longer for their Finance Manager to wake up one day and feel today is the day to release the money. My kids grew up going there since they were both little and the service was always good. As they were older, I noticed there was a lot of turnover in the general dentist building. Each year there were different dentists there. As my youngest daughter left there because she was too old, I took her to my dentist and she found 4 cavities by x-rays. My dentist said that those cavities have been there for quite sometime and were in between her teeth. Dr. Bird's dentist did not detect them and should have thru her x-rays. read more

I took my children to Dr Bird and her team for many years and recently left. It seems as though there have been recommendations for absolutely unnecessary treatment (fillings and soft tissue lasering) for both of my kids which was confirmed by a 3rd party dentist with X rays and with my childrens' records from Dr. Bird. I have no idea how many fillings over the years were not needed and am sick to think of discomfort and medication my children may have received unnecessarily, let alone money spent. Told me that my son had four cavities and I was shocked. I never even saw the Dr or was shown his X-rays. Luckily I took him to my dentist who said he didn't have any! And he actually showed me his X-rays. Now I wonder if my other son really even had cavities or if we just wasted a ton of money here! Makes me so angry! read more

Do not use Bird dentistry, I kid you not they told me that my 4 1/2 year-old had four cavities that needed to be filled, I decided to go for a second opinion at Laxer, Long & Savage ..... they looked at my daughters teeth and said that was absolutely ridiculous there were no cavities at all, please protect your wallet. read more

Worst experience ever- told me my son had 3 cavities and he was flipping out when they started the treatment so then they said "well they aren't that bad." What!! Took him to my dentist and to my surprise- no cavities! This is appalling to do to children. read more

This pediatric dental office has changed in the last 4 years, it's a completely different feel now, definitely for the worst. I took my 1.5 year old for his first dental cleaning, and after waiting over 30 min to finally be seen, we ended up leaving without even seeing the actual dentist. Needless to say a toddler doesn't have the patience to wait over AN HOUR to see a dentist! Dr. Bird herself is no longer around, and the substitute dentists they now use instead seriously lack bedside manner, especially what would be expected for a CHILDREN's dentist. A month ago I posted a good review about the good service done to my kids at their yearly cleaning, and I will keep my words and opinion about the cleaning services but now I have to rate the very bad service and experience I got yesterday from receptionist Gaby, I had some questions regarding my kids bill, I called 3 times in different days to the office billing department and I had no luck getting my call answered, I went to the office personally and both of the receptionist couldn't explain my questions, their arguments were just "the bill is Ok", and as it is for me it is not correct and I needed a different explanation with more details that they both obviously didn't know, after a few tries I asked her to please call or send me to a person from Finance or billing to help me get my questions cleared and she refused saying the person in charge of billing does not receive anyone in person, I requested then to call her, she was already having a very bad attitude making me feel very uncomfortable, making me waiting a long time, picking other calls even tho she was "attending" me and the other receptionist was available, she was very rude, I've never experienced a treatment like that I was so shocked that I decided to cancel my kids next appointments at that moment and said that to her that because of her attitude and bad service I don't want to come back and she didn't care she just said Ok I will cancel your appointments, she took a very long time doing it, my mom and daughter were waiting for me in the car outside for a long time I was super upset and anxious, she piked an incoming call, then I asked the other lady to please cancel my appt because Gaby was clearly and intentionally just trying to make more waiting time for me, and after I asked the other lady she said I already cancelled, so I asked then why you didn't tell me I was waiting for a long time what is wrong with you?!, I almost cried this was so embarrassing because there was other persons in the office and unfair, I didn't present myself there with any attitude, I simply wanted a good explanation and more information to know about my bill which is my right to know what am I exactly paying, I was never rude, I was shocked with their attitude and bad service, I paid the bill even with all the doubts I still have, I canceled my kids appointments and never coming back By the way I also tried to find a number or email to send a feedback and complain and didn't find one read more

This place has turned into nothing but a money grab. It's a turnstile of patients with money as the primary motivator above all else. 10 years or so ago there was a good local practice with a feeling of caring from the Doctor whose name is on the building. Now, after multiple expansions into other areas, and multiple doctors being added to the practice it feels like a Cattle call. Today was the last straw. After putting my 12 year old through multiple extractions and retainers because his adult teeth weren't coming in, today his teeth were in pain on both sides and one tooth was loose. Not unexpected since his teeth were moving. So we called and asked for an appointment. They asked us to send in a picture. A picture? They said they were too booked to see him. Our kid is in pain due to their treatment plan and they want a picture. No, and goodbye. read more

I took both my children there after hearing some positive reviews, but this was not my case. We had a dentist who was newer check my children's teeth after they were cleaned and said my 4 year old and 6 year old both had cavities. I had a really hard time believing this, as we are diligent Brushers and flossers. When I asked if they could show me the cavities in their mouth or x-ray, I was told they were too small to see, but needed to be taken care of ASAP. I had a second opinion done at my dentist office. They did X-rays and a full overview. No cavities on either kid! I was shocked to hear that Bird Dentistry said my oldest son had 6 cavities to finding out he has zero. Bird dentistry is money-hungry and will lie to get your kids in for a treatment they may not need. STAY AWAY! read more

We had been going here for a few years. My 6 yo was told she had a cavity. I got a second opinion after hearing a few stories around town about this practice and turns out no she did not have a cavity . I am disgusted and so glad I didn't listen to them. As you can see from other reviews if you keep reading they did the same to other patients and one of my friends. Unnecessary dental work on children is appalling and will be contacting the BBB about them as well. I have no patience for scammers especially with children , they are all about the money! read more

I took my son in for cavities and I had a second check up immediately when he was under sedation the nurse came out and said he had five more cavities!!!. To my disbelief I felt confused. They went ahead and did five more cavity refills and charge my insurance $1500 for a total of $4100 stay away from this money hungry practice they are awful!! read more

Dr. Bird, when you have a patient who is agitated like my son was, go and check on the patient yourself, few minutes are enough. I understand the situation (agitation) was too much but a little compassion goes a long way when you take care of small children. A big thanks to the dentist assistants who were assigned to my son. Great place! My one year old and 3 year old are no longer scared of the dentist. The hygienists were great and the doctor was nice. My daughter even got a picture for her first time and both were given a prize. They have been asking to go back again ever since we left. Definitely recommend and the place is new and clean. read more

I took my daughter here, and both, her and I, had an amazing experience. We were greeted in a professional manner, my daughter was taken back promptly for her procedure, and her assistant came and got me after the procedure ended so that Dr. Gulati could explain how everything went. I am a physician and a mother, and completely appreciated Dr. Priya Gulati's compassionate and cool demeanor. My daughter had to have a tooth removed and she did so by explaining to her that we need to "wiggle" the tooth because the tooth is sick and that she wants to help her mouth and teeth stay healthy. My daughter was not traumatized by any of her language. I have to disagree with the "trauma" that another mother felt in a prior review. If your child is having a misconception due to an exaggerated interpretation, I think that it would also be partly your responsibility as a mother to help them come back to reality and better understand what the dentist is trying to explain. My daughter still needs further work done and we will certainly be returning to see Dr. Gulati and her staff. read more

I took my son to Dr. Bird (Braces by Bird) for his first orthodontic appointment. I really went there with the expectation of visiting a few other orthodontists before making a final decision. Needless to say, we had a great experience and didn't need to visit with anyone else. The office staff is awesome and Dr. Bird is very patient and thoroughly explained the process and made us feel very comfortable. The day the braces were put in went without a hitch and the staff did their very best to make my son feel comfortable. I have two more kids that could possibly need braces and would not hesitate to go to see Dr. Bird. read more

Both our teens have braces from Dr. Bird. She has been our kids dentist since they old enough to see a dentist. Our eldest (15) fought us on the braces but Dr. B assured her they would be hardly noticeable using the thin wire on the upper teeth and today she returned from school really quite happy. And pain free (Advil only). And that makes the experience painless for us parents. The facility is bright, fresh and has free coffee and tea for the adults waiting. read more

It is very obvious that Dr. Bird does not care about her patients and the quality of service she provides. She is a money hungry Dr. and her goal is to get as many patients on the schedule as she can. Not for the purpose of care but the purpose of financial gain. Patients are seen as fast and quickly as possible, Dr. Bird spends little time answering parents questions and concerns. Quality of care is questionable (and favorable). She under pays her staff with high expectations not fully accommodated. Patients are asked to write 5 star reviews (to hide previous negative reviews) and are compensated for doing so. If you are considering Bird Pediatrics, and a good Dr. is your demand, this is not the office for you. read more

Bird pediatric dentistry was highly recommended to us. Our first visit went great, office was colorful and there are fun things to do to set the kids at ease. The hygienists are nice and attentive. 2nd visit we were recommended to do some procedures to my 2 yr old to prevent possible problems as she gets older, we chose not to. 5th visit we were still told by Dr. Bird that my daughter needed correction and was getting VERY aggressive about doing the "corrective procedure". We were also told she had 5 cavities, given a treatment plan and left. Eight months later we consulted another pediatric orthodontist and dentist office regarding the recommended procedures and were told to wait until adult teeth come in. My daughters 5 cavities? Gone... They even had the X-rays from Bird Pediatric Dentistry and didn't see them. The new ortho/dentist redid X-rays and found nothing. Bottom line...I wouldn't trust what what you are told at Bird. Seek 2nd opinion and have them show you your child's cavities. Be warned of what lies beneath the fun colorful decor. read more

I made an appointment with Bird Dentistry to have my daughter's first dental exam. I was able to make the appointment via e-mail, which I find rather convenient. We arrived and filled out some paperwork and immediately noticed a few things: adequate parking close to the building for Bird Dentistry patients and a very colorful and playful theme inside the office. There were plenty of toys for my daughter to play with while I did the paperwork and a show she could watch on the television. The atmosphere was bright, happy and childlike. We were called back by a woman named Nakosha. Nakosha and I discussed with my daughter what was going to happen, she showed her all of the instruments she planned to use and explained what they did, let her touch them, etc. She was very patient. When my daughter refused to lay back and open her mouth, because she was terrified, she let her sit up for the first part of the exam. My daughter (who is three and a half) was hysterical for most of the visit. Nakosha did a great job of working with me to calm her down. She was inconsolable, and Nakosha's experience with kids really came through to help the situation as much as it could be helped and didn't make my daughter feel bad for being scared. Dr. Priya Gulati came in for the second half of the exam and I immediately noticed her less than patient attitude toward my daughter. I was less than impressed with her ability to work with toddlers and was extremely disappointed when she used scare tactics to explain to my daughter why she should no longer suck on her finger. Rather than tell her the truth, which is that it will cause her teeth to shift and become painful / require braces to correct, she told her if she continues to suck her finger she will get a hole in her mouth. Now my daughter is terrified of not being able to eat, but of course still sucks her finger for comfort when she's uncertain (like seeing the dentist for the very first time). We left without finishing up the cleaning portion or having X-Rays made because my daughter (who was admittedly crying and carrying on) was being told repeatedly (and with an attitude) that she was scaring the other "helpers". There was one other patient in the room, and she wasn't even in the room when Dr. Priya Gulati began telling her to stop crying or to be quiet. I was also unimpressed that she asked me directly if I was okay (and with slight sarcasm), as if I've never dealt with this behavior. My daughter had the same terrified reaction the first few visits to the eye doctor - we go every six weeks. She's relaxed about it now because she has an amazing pediatric ophthalmologist who is extremely patient and respected her - she worked with my daughter to help her become comfortable in a room full of scary, unknown instruments. My husband and I prepare her for such "firsts" as best we can by discussing what will happen well ahead of time in a positive, upbeat manner. Then we hope the professionals also have the know-how to work with us to make it less scary for our tender-hearted kiddo. I think the decor at Bird Dentistry is top notch, the goodie bag and the token for the prize machine is an adorable idea. I definitely won't be going back, for fear that Dr. Bird herself has the same indifference and dislike toward hesitant and tender-hearted children that Dr. Priya Gulati did. I can't say I had any warm or fuzzy feelings from the women at the front desk, either. Definitely an overall attitude in this practice. I think if you know your child isn't going to be at all hesitant or scared - this is an awesome place for you. If you think your little one will be hesitant, take him/her elsewhere - where the dentist will be kind and gentle with your child. I have a long list of suggestions from my friends for pediatric dentists they love, we'll definitely be on the search for a new one, now. If you do choose Bird Dentistry - I hope you end up with Nakosha, she was the only person there who made us feel welcome and was extremely kind to my little girl. read more

I will never take my child (4 years old) back to this practice. They do not allow parents to be present during treatment or even watch from outside the door. Dr. Byrd has poor bedside manner and builds no rapport with both the parent or child. I have found another practice that allows parents to be present during treatment. I would encourage you to do the same. read more

I took my son here for his very first dentist appointment at the recommendation of his pediatrician. Before we went in, I tried to talk to him about what to expect and that Dr. Bird is going to check his teeth to make sure they are growing. I wish this office was around when I was a kid as I recall going to very sterile boring dental offices as a child. This office was definitely designed with a kid in mind. Bold bright colors, a TV with the Disney Channel on, a large play area with adult seating, and even a big gum ball machine filled with little toys. When the hygienist called us back I could tell that my son was a little shy. We went back behind the door to reveal an open concept room with roughly between four to five small dental chairs in front of a large screen TV for the kids to watch. They had Madagascar playing. The hygienist was super friendly and explained to my son in toddler talk what all the dental instruments were. She even sprayed a little water on his hand to show that water would come out. Then she asked him what flavor toothpaste he wanted and gave him three choices, Chocolate Chip, Strawberry, or Vanilla. Of course he chose Chocolate and even let him taste it. I kneeled next to him the whole time as he lay back watching Madagascar. They offered him sunglasses to shield his eyes from the light above but he didn't want them. After the cleaning was done, Dr. Bird came out and introduced herself and told my son she was going to "paint his teeth". So she checked him out and then quickly applied fluoride to his teeth. Afterwards they took our picture with Dr. Bird and we received a dental goodie bag for him and a token for the toy gum ball machine outside. He got a red bouncy ball. The whole process was quick and easy and was a great experience for my son's first visit. I knocked it down a star because in their thank you correspondence to us in the mail the picture we took with Dr. Bird was not in there, but rather a picture of a completely different family. read more

Dr. Bird and Dr. Kennedy have been amazing with my daughters! They were very uneasy about having a filling done. The assistants Michelle and Beidy were so patient and explained everything they did in a way that wouldn't worry them. The front desk made it so easy to set up their next appointments and they even had school calendars available so I could find a day off of school to schedule them. Our experience at Bird was great, we can't wait to be back in 6 months! read more

We were referred here from our family dentist because my 5 yr old needed a crown. :( FLOSS THOSE LITTLE TEETH! I am kinda in the middle about the whole experience. They don't allow parents back while procedures are taking place which is a good or bad thing. That really depends on the kid, sometimes parents make the situation worse. The staff was really good. My daughter had a great experience. The front office was very kind and helpful. The design of the place is adorable but I couldn't help but wonder how much more it was costing me to be there.... read more

We newly moved to Ballantyne area, so I took my son for teeth cleaning. This hospital does not know how to handle children. My 4 year old son cried a lot during the teeth cleaning process. And his teeth was not cleaned properly, he still has the black spots on his teeth. I think the nurses are not trained properly to deal with kids. read more
