    Pic of the poetry reading.

We went for a special event Tea Party and Poetry reading. The mini sandwiches and pastries were delicious. Beautifully displayed and organized. They had a great saxophone player. The lady reading poetry was so posed and motivating.

    Great table setting

Mr…read more Jerk took over the old Holy Chow location and it really the only Caribbean takeout of any kind in the immediate area that I know of. The lady that greeted me is nice and friendly but with a really heavy caribbean accent.. We have to both repeat everything that we said to each other before we got an idea what we talking about.. Chinese Accent VS Island Accent! :) Jerk Chicken Leg Dinner ($5.50) - I was a little bit disappointed with the Jerk Chicken. Usually I pick the leg part because it usually not as dry and more juicy. However, I have to say that it is dry and tough.... it resembles more of a "Jerky" Chicken than a Jerk Chicken - For side you can pick either a veggie or coleslaw. Veggie is a combination of cabbage and carrot.. plain and simple but nice and healthy - The rice is the star of this meal as me and my friends fighting to eat the rice.. good mix of kidney beans and some gravy to give it a little kick Can I dare to say I was a little disappointed with the Jerk Chicken at Mr Jerk? It is one of the worse one I ever have. BTW, my friends were really hesitate to eat the Jerk Chicken because it was like black... looks like it was really burnt.. I have to explain to them those are just the spice rub they use :). Lunch specials for students $2 for a beef patty and a pop... I wonder if she will ask me for ID if I order one of those? :) 2.5 star

We liked the Jerk Pork more, spicy and very flavourful with a nice dry rubbed crisp "bark". Lunch deal with rice was 8 bucks. What we had was gluten free. The reviews trashed the service which I found funny when you are getting such good food for less than the price of McD. If you want service goto a waitered restaurant. Give this place a try and decide for yourself. We enjoyed it and will be back.

George's Tastee is a well-known patty brand in Jamaica and their patties here are well worth a try!…read moreI was told this location recently changed ownership/management for a little over a year now. The patties are really fresh and there is a wide selection of flavors and spice levels! Also unique to this location is that you have the option to purchase the patties in bulk and frozen which is convenient to have a supply at home. There are also cooked food options available (curry goat, oxtail, jerk chicken), hardo bread and an array of drinks to purchase to pair with your food. The layout of this establishment is spacious and meant for takeout, but there is a small space in the corner to enjoy your meal if desired. The prices of the COOKED food here seem reasonable. To me, the prices of the PATTIES are unbelievably low. (For context: I am visiting from the States where a singular patty costs anywhere from $4 to $5USD). At the very least these prices should be considered reasonable and if not for the prices then the taste definitely warrants giving the patties a try.

This store is located a few doors down from Church's Chicken. The former is closest to McCowan Road. I backed into a parking spot closest to the store. I walked in. This place has hot foods. It had jerk chicken, curry, goat, and a lot more when I was there. I saw the oxtail, which is my favourite dish out of the bunch. I'll need to come back for it. I was here for patties. This place has cheap prices when it comes to frozen, boxed patties. I normally see a dozen frozen beef patties for $20 at my usual patty places. This place had them for $15.50. Such a great deal! You can get veggie, chicken, and beef patties. With beef, it comes in mild, regular spicy, and extra spicy. I got a box of regular spicy. I could smell the hot patties. I had to get one for the road. I got a regular spicy beef patty. I couldn't resist! The woman who was originally behind the hot foods helped me get my hot patty. I paid for my purchases with a credit card. I tapped and was good. I thanked her and left with my purchases. You can get bread here, too. It has rolls on the weekend. I liked seeing desserts by the payment area. It was difficult for me to resist getting some. Next time, for sure. I was determined to get patties and I succeeded. I ate my beef patty as I drove off to run my next errand. It was so good. The spice level was nice. The patty was hot. The outside was flaky, but sturdy. I was a happy camper. I've had a few patties at home. Whether I heat them up in a toaster oven or microwave oven, they are yummy and bring great joy to me and my tummy. I'm glad that I finally visited this store. I have passed by it countless times. I'll be back for more patties and some oxtail. (97)

Curry potatos and bone in chicken was good. Added the channa (generously sprinkled throughout - as in they did not skimp!) The doubles didnt hit the way I was expecting. I always order the simple doubles with just the chick pea but it usually comes with the chutney and flavor bombs which are what I look forward to. Was disappointed they dont use chuntey here. The filling was just channa (curried chick peas). The dough was great though, nicetexture and had that hint of sweetness so it hit the mark there. Overall generous portion sizes for the price point. Convenient for Caribbean fare. Suprisingly and sadly, York Region is lacking in Carribbean choices! We love to see more so wouldnt need to venture out to Scarborough and GTA. So would visit again.

Last Sunday, I had lunch with six cool friends at Caribbean Cabana. It takes over from where Soca Palace used to be. This eatery is steps away from my go-to pharmacy and is next to National Bank in a plaza that takes me seven minutes to get to by car. Caribbean Cabana specializes in Guyanese-style Chinese food. It offers 100% halal food and is fully LLBO-licensed. We had quite the feast: - Cabana wonton soup - Curry goat with roti - Cabana fried rice - Cabana combo (appetizers) - Singapore Noodles - Basha (fish - spicy) - Cabana mixed veggies - Calamari - Lo-wontons We asked for water and got a carafe that had a yellow tint. We joked that it looked like urine. Luckily, it wasn't. I asked the same nice woman for a refill on the water. The carafe only filled four glasses out of the seven. It was a busy afternoon thanks to a Toronto Blue Jays game being broadcast while we were there. We eventually got the refill and were content. The wonton soup was full of veggies and wontons in a tasty broth. We got the Cabana combo, which featured spring rolls, fried wontons, fries, and onion rings. It was perfect for snacking and sharing! We continued our fry fest with calamari that was done to perfection. It was seasoning perfectly with none of that rubbery nonsense. It was my first time having lo-wontons. They were unique and now my favourite way to enjoy wontons in a light soy-based sauce with lots of green onion. The curry goat was amazing. The goat was flavourful and tender. The roti was so yummy. I dipped it in the curry. It was also yummy to eat on its own. The singaporian noodles were delicious. I loved the veggies, shrimp, and chicken mixed in with perfectly cooked vermicelli and the best sauce. Basha was excellent. Fried fish with a spicy kick. Not crazy. Highly flavourful with flaky fish, lightly battered, but super crispy and tender. Yum! Say yes to bell peppers and onions. I devoured the Cabana mixed veggies. This place does broccoli so well. Crunchy. Yummy. We ended up doing the holy protein trinity of beef, chicken, and shrimp. The veggies balanced our proteins out nicely. If you love chicken, you must try the Cabana fried rice. You get succulent chicken with crispy skin on top of the best fried rice. So good! We had some food left over. A couple of friends got to bring them home.6) This place has lunch specials at decent prices. I need to take advantage of them. The specials start at $7.99. Such a steal! I didn't use the washroom, but a couple of my friends did. You need a key to use it. I had a great time enjoying yummy food with cool friends. I hope to do it again soon or grab a lunch special. I recently dined there with friends, some of them not too familiar with this style of food, and they all loved it! We started with a Wonton Soup that was packed with wontons and vegetables. That was followed by the Cabana Combo Platter that included lots of tasty items - Spring Rolls, Shrimp Rolls, Chicken Wontons, Shrimp Wontons, Onion Rings, and Fries. Next, we had the Basha Fish; Cabana Mixed Vegetables; and Curry Goat with Dahlpuri; the very popular Cabana Fried Rice with Fried Chicken on Top; and Singapore Noodles. It was all so good and we wanted more, so we added their Calamari, and Lo-Wontons. It was all delicious! Caribbean Cabana is a cozy spot that seems to have a lot of regular customers who were there cheering on the Blue Jays to another victory. Large portions and flavourful add ons. I love to add the chutney, scotty pickle and creamy sauces. Only downside is I would prefer if they used bone in chicken for the jerk items. I've also tried the chicken roti. The filling, sauce, chickpeas and potatoes are delish but the roti bread itself could be lighter and softer. A few times I've ordered the roti felt more like a thin pita instead of a roti. Parking at the Markham location can be difficult as it is off the main road (Hwy 7) which is busy at all hours of the day so there's no avoiding that and there are only so many spaces.

Each item seemed to complement each other and had you wanting to take one bite after the other. The chicken was very soft and flavorful, the rice had a nice texture and you could tell it was made in flavorful spices, and the veggies were nice and creamy. The tropical hot sauce was the icing on the cake, or in this case, the bowl. I wish I ordered a spicier sauce because the medium felt more like a step up from mild but not quite medium. My one complaint regarding this is that because they are served in pie trays with plastic covers, there's no real way of hearing this back up unless you have plates. So be aware of this if you're ordering this for delivery at a hotel and be sure to ask your hotel for plates. All in all a great experience and would eat it again if I come back to Toronto.
