I can only talk about Uncle Ben's Saltfish Cakes dutung Taste of Danforth. Nicely seasoned, fluffy salted-cod fritters. I only wish there were a touch more fish in them. They came with a delicious habanero-mango sauce, and I asked for an extra-spicy hot sauce as well--it was excellent!

If you're looking for a spot in Toronto that hits you with flavor, culture, and pure good vibes the moment you walk in, SugarKane is it. This Black sister‑owned Caribbean fusion restaurant is an absolute gem. We dined in on a Friday night, and from the second we stepped through the door, the energy was incredible, greeted by an amazing host, surrounded by beautiful wall art, and vibing to a house DJ who knew exactly how to set the tone. We started with the Jerk Chicken Fettuccine, and man!!!... this dish does not play. Creamy, spicy, and full of that signature jerk kick, easily one of the best fusion dishes I've had. We also tried the Jerk Chicken Bowl, loaded with rice, slaw, and perfectly caramelized plantains. I'm not exaggerating when I say I almost licked the bowl clean. To top it off, we had the Chicken and Waffle Sliders with Fries, and they were just as delicious, sweet, savory, crispy, everything you want in comfort food. Between the food, the staff, the music, and the artwork, SugarKane is one of those places that feeds your soul as much as your stomach. Good staff, good vibes, good food, just an all‑around unforgettable experience. Highly recommend.

My partners islander coworker suggested this place for brunch, so we had to come try with a couple of friends. Expect islander vibes; chill atmosphere, great company and good food. Fried dough platter - some nice freshly fried bread. My favour topping is probably the guava butter, only wished there was a bit more guava flavour. Oxtail grilled cheese - oxtail was so friggin good would recommend and get again.. Banana foster waffles - waffles were not crispy, but the bananas were godly. Perfectly charred. The syrup feels rum infused, a very nice touch. Would recommend and get again. Lobster poutine - grilled lobster felt over cooked, a bit on the rubbery side. The poutine was very good, the fries were cubed potatoes fried to extra crispy. Potatoes and gravy were seasoned nicely. Would not get this dish again, but may get a side of fries. Shrimp n grits - Don't really know what to expect going I to this. Grits have an interesting texture, almost like a creamy sago. Nice to try, but wouldnt get again. Jerk pork Benny - a bit biased here since I don't like Benny's. This is a new Benny topping I haven't had before. Flavour was decent, but the potatoes were nice and crispy just like the poutine. Nice to try. Overall would come back again for the waffles and oxtail grilled cheese.

I went here with a girlfriend on Saturday night and I was stepping outside of my comfort zone trying Caribbean cuisine . I got the jerk chicken fettuccine and it was absolutely delicious, I would definitely go back. They had live music and a friendly atmosphere. The staff were friendly and nice. The whole night was full of music and great interactions

This is truly a great establishment, I really like how quaint it is and cozy as well. It is daily prices because the food is truly delicious!! We had the jerk chicken pasta which was really good. As well as the Creole jambalaya which was my personal favourite!! Make sure when you go to reserve a table for more efficiency!!

Looking forward to a good night

I visited on a Friday evening. Great vibes live DJ and Santa going around giving out goodies. Server was friendly owners came and introduced themselves. We ordered drinks, appetizers and mains. This is where is went south 10 minutes after getting our main one of the owners came to our table told us we were over our time limit and the next reservations was here. (Ummm okay,) 2 min later they put to go containers on our table and the bill. I was annoyed asked the table beside us if they were told to leave and they said yes. I asked to speak with an owner. I explained that we were really enjoying ourselves and we didn't appreciate the delivery of them dismissing us there was no time limit mentioned to us or any warnings. She then informed us that it was in the email when we made the reservation and then told the waiter she should have told us, the table beside us had a different server and they were never told about a time limit either. Food 4/5 Service 3/5 - I left feeling dismissed completely killed the vibe which is why I'm leaving my review at a 3. Delivery is key. Appetizers Spinach four cheese dip- 4/5 super rich with flavour, but bland could use a hint of spice. Plantain chips were delicious Fish cakes - 5/5 my first time having fish cakes they were delicious but the mango habanero sauce it came with is what made it perfect shrimp tacos - 4/5 it comes with two tacos we did wish that it came with three it was tasty the shrimp are grilled Mains Jerk pork sandwich - 4/5 you get a generous amount of meat. Seasoned well, slightly salty but the coleslaw helped to balance it out. Fries were thin I honestly didn't really get to eat any before I was dismissed Jerk Chicken Pasta - 3/5 it was a generous portion, meat was cooked properly the plate came out hot but honestly the food itself the pasta and the chicken weren't hot we did find that the white sauce that they use was bland and we needed to add some type of sauce to it because it was just bland basic Drinks All drinks were very pretty aesthetically Dutty wine- 4/5 it was tasty, it tasted like a sangria Wray and ting - 5/5 perfect balance of alcohol and drink you can taste the wray & nephew but it wasn't overpowering Raspberry mojito - 3/5 it was okay, not what we were expecting

SugarKane isn't fast food or home-cooked style Caribbean food. It positions itself as higher end (as it's price point suggests), and thankfully delivers on this expectation. Got a few things for takeout: - Jerk Chicken Bowl: Great rub - not overly hot but tastefully spicy. Chicken itself was well cooked, and they gave 4 sizeable pieces. Rice was properly dry, which made the sauce pop even more. Would have liked more of the plump plantains, peas and slaw. - Oxtail Bowl: Similar to the jerk chicken bowl, but this had oxtail and a whole lot of gravy. Oxtail was braised well (tender and tasty). A bit too heavy on the gravy for me, even if it tasted pretty good. - Uncle Ben's Saltfish Cake: The only disappointing part of the meal. It was seasoned really well, but the dough/covering was just too thick. Overall an enjoyable experience at SugarKane. A bit pricier than other Caribbean places I've been to but definitely think it's worth a visit.

Please make a reservation before you show up we almost didn't get sitted. If you are ever in this area, please check out this restaurant. The ambiance was amazing. The music and the vibes were out of this world. The place was packed with people. The service was spantacular. They were very tentative, nice, friendly, and helpful. They are all-inclusive. The food was wonderful. I would start with dessert first because the portions are huge. The bread pudding was my favorite.

The food was out of this world; very flavorful and juicy. Portions are just right for the price. Trust, you will leave very satisfied. The service was a little slow but we were told they were under staffed. With a good group of friends and good music we didn't notice too much. The DJ gave this place an upbeat vibe. Plus who doesn't want to dance when they're eating good food? I'll wait...

About $30 for these 3 apps. A bit pricey based on the portion size.

Very nice venue. We came in on a Thursday evening for apps. Tried the fish cakes, wings and corn. Overall very tasty and I like the heat of the fish cakes. I would have liked it to be a bit less doughy with more fish. I will try this place again soon when I have a bigger appetite for a main meal. I will note that I thought it was a bit pricey for the portion size. For example the corn was $8 for a single cob cut into two and rolled with the spices, sauce and coconut bits. Nonetheless will be back again to try more items. Love the fact that a nice Caribbean restaurant is in the neighbourhood.

To be honest, overall food and atmosphere was pretty ok and the service was good as well but overall value wasn't there. Appetizer was again pretty interesting but the the portion size was pretty small for the price range and entree especially jambalaya did not taste like jambalaya at all... flavor concentration was lacking and tasted quite simple perhaps because it had too much sausage (that would have overpowered). Drink was also pretty bad I tried two mojitos and both of them were pretty thin in flavor. Overall I wanted to give 3.5 stars but perhaps little more toward 3 stars overall. Just as fair warning for the patio diner, there were about 3 bees or wasps at all time during our entire dinner.

SugarKane is a wonderful Afro-Caribbean spot on the Danforth. The food & drinks are flavourful and very filling! The fried Bake in the Jerk Chicken Sandwich is soft with a perfectly crisp exterior & their house-made pepper sauce is incredible. The owners and staff are so attentive & caring. They go above and beyond any expectations to provide great service! Can't wait to come back & try everything on the menu.

The food was fresh and well-made, and reminded me of visiting family in Italy who have been making simple and delicious meals from scratch for generations. Because of the affordable price, I was concerned about portion size but they were generous and considerably larger than they appear in the menu's photos. I ordered two main dishes (each main is one protein and two sides for $13) and an extra two veggie-based sides (5) for two people at the end of a long day, and it was more than enough. On an average day, I think I would be satisfied with just a main - the sides included in the main are good dishes in their own right, no filler. I will order again or, post-covid, it would be a perfect to-go option for the park. Delivery was quick, ingredients were whole, and flavour was strong.

There is local art on one side of the wall and graffiti style decor on the opposite wall and washroom (which you can pickup one of the provided pens and tagged it yourself). The cajun fries are soft potato wedges coated in chili flakes and paprika. It comes with what looks like the burger sauce as dip and is tangy and finger licking good. Eating at Heartbreak is a messy affair. The portions are great for the price, the chicken is hot and fresh, piled high with coleslaw and sweet pickles on a brioche bun. The owner seems to be the soul (pin intended) cook, served us, did cash, and took care of the guests. Overall, the chicken was crispy, lots of meat, will be back to try their mac and cheese.
