My husband and I had a very disappointing experience with Lazar's Luggage. We are older customers coming from Santa Monica, and because of the distance, traffic, and today's gas prices, I specifically called ahead to avoid any problems. I spoke with a salesman named Curtis and carefully confirmed that two specific items -- one for me and one for my husband -- were in stock. I explained that this was a long drive involving two freeways and that we did not want to waste the trip. About twenty minutes later, I called again and spoke with the owner/manager because we would have been driving during rush hour traffic that evening. He assured me it was "no problem" to hold the items until the following day and confirmed that Curtis had already set them aside for us. The next day, after making the long drive, Curtis brought out the wrong item entirely. When I reminded him that I had specifically described exactly what we wanted, he tried to steer me toward a completely different product instead. Then he admitted to his boss that the item I wanted had already been sold. This was inconsiderate, unprofessional, and a complete waste of our time, effort, and gasoline. If a store agrees to hold merchandise for customers -- especially customers making a significant trip -- they should honor that commitment. Very aggravating experience. Having bought several pieces of luggage at Lazar's over several years, I can say Jackie and Jay are very good about assessing business and personal travel luggage needs, and the store provides a wide selection of brands and colors. Traveling a lot, I look out for quality pieces that last, and this is the place to shop--not just for luggage, but for a wide variety luggage accessories, too. Even if you have all the travel luggage you need, there are plenty of items are available as GIFTS for that special person that has everything. This HAS to be the go-to store for B&R luggage--I found a deal here that bested Amazon's and Abt's prices! Despite living in Sherman Oaks for over a decade, I only just recently discovered Lazar's and at the perfect time as my go-to small travel bag suffered a tear by the zipper seam from overpacking one too many times. Service here was friendly and helpful, as they quickly gathering up other similiar bags in their inventory in case I wanted a newer replacement. Let me start off with two words for this place " Rip Off "!! I went here to have a handle fixed on my suitcase and was told it wouldn't be more than $45. Came back to pick up my suitcase & magically It was over the $45 that I was told it would not exceed. Get home and notice it's not even a brand new handle, it's USED!! Doesn't even match the other existing handle as well. A buddy of mine laughed and said you're an idiot, they sell that same stupid handles BRAND NEW that they put on your luggage at Walmart for $10. I went in to see if this place could replace a buckle for my luggage cover. The buckle cost about a dollar or $2 at Joanna's and $3 on Amazon. They wanted to charge me $30 which was the cost of the cover itself. But that's not what motivated me to write a bad review. The overcharging was one thing but the guy wasn't very nice. I think he was the owner and acted like he could care less if you had my business or not This place had a lot of cool things...especially since I travel all the time. I thought I would be in often but I'm going to skip this place in the future. It's too bad because I would have been back often. I walked into the store with a suitcase that needed two new wheels. The price to repair them was much less than the luggage repair shop I had tried earlier. It was an old (but very loved) suitcase, so I asked the store owner, Jay, if he had anything similar in the store. He showed me two comparable suitcases, and I chose one of them. (1) wide selection of the best brands which allows you the chance to open them up, envision how things would be placed and compare side by side (2) helpful informed staff that patiently walk you through the options (3) are also a repair center so nobody would know better as to what makes the right fit for what you are seeking and then can take care of the repairs if ever damaged. We came in through the backdoor and left happy through the front.... We've been on the road for over 2 weeks when I noticed some damage to my suitcase. Well, damage is generally expected given the way luggage is handled during transport. I just noticed that the entire zipper glide and pull was missing from one of the outside compartments of my suitcase as I unpacked my suitcase into a dresser at my brother's-in-law home. When I mentioned the damage to my brother-in-law, he told me to get it fixed before we packed up for our return to Honolulu. Without hesitation, my relative recommended Lazar's Luggage Superstore as he has been a loyal customer for years. The following morning, I called to inquire about Tumi luggage repair, cost and turn around time. We took my suitcase in that afternoon, got a more accurate quote after having the damage assessed and was told that it could be ready within a week. We asked if they could put a rush on it as our return travel was upcoming but certainly understood that they had other repairs in their repair queue. Within 2 days, I received a call that the repair was complete. I was amazed at how quickly the repair was done, couldn't even tell that there had been repair as Lazar's used genuine Tumi parts and the cost was well worth it (just around $20). Oh...the 2 times that we were at Lazar's, we parked in their private lot behind the store rather than trying to fight for a parking space on busy Ventura Blvd. Their store was consistently packed with people who were getting their travel needs from the great selections and prices here. We bought our Delsey luggage through Lazars. They didn't carry the specific luggage, so they special ordered it for us with their Delsey reps and it came a few days later. So t-minus 1 day before our trip I realize we need a new garment bag. After finding out that it was not in stock in the big box stores, I came across their store. I called them up and they put the bag on hold. When I arrived I ended up picking up a few other things I had needed for my trip: eye cover, neck pillow, and travel wallet. On face value the store looks a little dated but their customer service sets them a part. It's such a treat to talk to a REAL person who knows the products so well and actually uses them for their own personal travel. For most products they offer a good range of cheaper to higher end options. I appreciate that they didn't try to up sell me..they just showed me what was available and let me choose for myself. At the check out they offered to go over all the features of the garment back which I really appreciated! Definitely check this place out.
