I had a surprising and frustrating experience with Savinar Luggage. I went in to repair the straps on my bag as one side broke and wanted to reinforce the other side as well. I was quoted $120 per strap end, which seemed wildly overpriced. . Thankfully, I decided to get a second opinion and went to Mike's Shoe Repair on Topanga & Dumetz. I'm so glad I did! Mike charged $20 per side, and the quality of the work is outstanding. The repair is so clean it looks like the damage never even happened. If you're considering Savignar, I'd strongly recommend shopping around first. I felt taken advantage of as though he saw an expensive brand and I'd spend anything. As for Mike's, it's a hidden gem, honest service, fair pricing, and excellent craftsmanship. Highly recommend supporting businesses that are fair... brand or not. Very disappointed as I know Savinar to be in the community a long time but maybe will pay unreasonable charges. read more

I was looking for a new carry on bag for an upcoming trip. I had a price range and needed dimensions, but not much else. The store had a wide selection, many things that I didn't realize that I could use till I saw them (RDFI blocking money belts for example). Mark and Elizabeth were fabulous in offering me suggestions, not pressuring me, offering me a good deal, and spending the time that I needed to make a choice that I am very happy with. Very nice guy and told me about their sister company in Canoga Park after knowing I was moving to the SF Valley. I've only purchased the Briggs and Riley at both locations and I'm a fan. Everyone is so friendly and they literally can tell you everything you need to know about luggage. They make it so entertaining that it makes the overall experience fun. I usually know what I want, but then I end up going with their suggested option. Buying a luggage is liking buying a really good pot. I travel a LOT for work now, three & four days at a time, so a rolling carry-on that suits me is everything. I was looking at luggage at Target, then Costco thinking, "Good value" but ultimately no one could answer any questions. Eventually I remembered passing Savinar luggage on the way to work, so I went there. They were busier than I would have expected for a luggage store, so I almost walked out until I realized that, like a good restaurant, they're busy for good reason. One of the staff members was helping me look at a couple different ones, and another staff member joined-in when I mentioned that I didn't want to spend a lot, so he showed me some moderately-priced ones. There was no pressure, but in the end, I thought, since I DO depend on my carry-on so much, I spent more and got one by Briggs & Riley. When I got home, I got buyer's remorse since I spent almost twice as much as the Samsonite at Costco. After a little mental back-and-forth, I kept the Briggs & Riley after all. A few days later I had a flight and one of the flight attendants was helping someone with her carry-on next to mine in the overhead and said, "Briggs & Riley? NICE!" I immediately realized what better compliment than one from a professional traveler? I will go to Savinar from now on! read more

Now I don't know about you, but when I shop for somewhat of a big purchase (like a suitcase over $100) I more or less like to be left alone to decide on my own and go back and forth with myself. The saleswoman helping me was definitely the most knowledgeable person on suitcases that I have ever talked to in my life, but I personally would've liked to have been left alone more. I ended up getting quite a nice suitcase for $150, and she gave me suitable (pun intended) pros and cons for each one I was deciding between. She actually recommended I do a smaller suitcase for my traveling needs which was cheaper, and a welcome suggestion. I would recommend this store to anyone buying luggage or a suitcase. I actually went to other stores and found next to nothing before I was given the name of this place, and was happy with the experience. Store was actually a little hard to find, even with my new space age technology, and I didn't find it on the map strangely. Parking was good though and got in n out afterwards which made the trip extra special. read more
