I have eaten at I Luv Pho so many times, but I have never ventured into Lazeez Tava Fry. So after church (down the street at Ekklesia Atlanta Christian), we headed over to try this mysterious restaurant that we found on Yelp. We were the only customers at 11:30, which was fine since they had literally just opened. The restaurant smelled strongly of cleaning product, which indicated that they kept the restaurant clean, but it was a bit overwhelming to keep breathing in for 1-2 hours. So we were a little ignorant and had really no idea what to order. We ended up settling on what we knew - Chicken Tikka Masala and Butter Chicken. There were 6 of us and we each ordered one of those two dishes. You can get naan or rice with your dish, which we didn't realize until later that it would cost extra. It seemed odd, because how else was I supposed to eat my curry without naan or rice? She did specify that our two chosen chicken curry dishes were very similar. Oops. As we ate, we enjoyed watching the Indian version of the show "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" (forgive me if I'm not being politically correct...) playing on the big screen TV in the back of the restaurant. The chicken tikka masala was good, although I'm not sure how to identify whether it was authentic or not, and the rice was fragrant. It was definitely a unique experience - a solid 3.5 experience. I'm not sure how the restaurant is doing, as we were their only customers during our entire lunch, but it seems like the small restaurant has been around for years. Another Sunday when we're craving Indian but don't want to wander too far from church, we'll have to come give them another try. And maybe ask for more suggestions next time. read more

I've seen Lazeez Tava Fry for a while since it's close to my home. Plus it's right next to I Luv Pho but it always seem empty. After great reviews on Yelp, I thought I would give them a try since I was really craving Indian food and wanted to try a different restaurant. I called in my order after doing some research because I was so hungry after work, I just wanted to pick up. When I got there, the place is pretty much empty. There was a large tv that was playing Bollywood songs. The food was ready. I asked the owner which region of India was the food from since I'm just curious like that cause I'm into Desi things. He replied Gujarati, which I was surprised because most Gujaratis are vegetarian. He told me that they're from the Muslim part of Gujarat. That made sense cause the meat that is sold there is halal. When I got home, I got to taste the food. Bullet naan - naan covered with chilli I actually liked it a lot, I usually just have butter naan or plain naan but since I love spicy this is good, it's not too overly spicy either, just right. Butter naan - perfect amount of butter on naan, light, fluffy, and chewy. Chicken nihari - spicy chicken in curry, the right amount of spices, three pieces of dark meat - one leg, two thighs, I didn't love the meat taste, tasted kinda old but the curry was perfectly spiced and tasted really good with the naan dipped in. Chicken 65 - perfectly cooked, crispy yet tender in the inside. It is good but I've had better chicken 65 before but I still liked it a lot. Chicken Khichdi - my favorite dish, it's like Desi fried rice version, so freaking good, the perfect spices with tender, juicy, yummy, red chicken. I want some more just thinking about it now and typing this. Overall, I am a fan and will try more dishes. The owners are really nice. read more

I really wish I coukd surpass the limited five stars for this particular spot. Back in September I tried them for the very first time and I've been back multiple times after. The consistency of JUST HOW DELICIOUS this place is astonishes me. You'd think sometimes you may have a bad or mediocre visit - NO - this place is consistent with bringing happiness to my belly from the service, the selection, the taste, and the pricing. Granted, I will admit it is my first Indian spot I've ever visited and the first taste of Indian food I've had... but if all Indian food is this flavorful, colorful, and rich -- I will never complain. Ive had the garlic naan with the yogurt dip, lamb shank, chicken khichide, chicken malay, thumbs up soda.... all under $40... I personally don't mind the pricing of this place. The service is attentive and the atmosphere is calm, I admit, it does take a little while for the food to arrive; however, I guarantee its worth it.. plus I enjoy the fact that my food is cooked fresh. I went to a wedding and dinner was catered from Lazeez Tava Fry. The food was so good that my husband and I went to the restaurant with group of friends one night recently. We had butter chicken, paneer tikka masala, chicken khichdi, and naan bread (see menu link below). Everything was excellent and well cooked. We were pleased with the food. Only concerns we have is: 1) It's pricey. Other Indian restaurants may be couple dollars cheaper like Zyka, Kabob Hut, Sabri house, etc and 2) The time to get food is extremely slow. This restaurant has caught my eye on several occasions, but I was always worried about going there since it has almost always been pretty empty and I am still a novice to Indian food. But thankfully SO and I were having a craving and found ourselves at Lazeez Tava Fry based on the numerous great reviews. We ordered the chicken darbari, tikki fry, the garlic naan and the butter naan. The server was great, he patiently answered all of our questions. The food came out quickly (kinda expected as we were the only diners). My chicken darbari was delicious! The curry had great body in that it wasn't just oily or watery like other Indian restaurants. It was slightly spicier than I am accustomed to, but I ordered a side of rice to help with that. SO's tikki fry (beef with spicy curry) was too spicy for me. Even SO was breathing kinda funny while he was devouring it. But apparently it was also delicious cause there was nothing left at the end of the meal. The naan's were delicious. I really like how they were very different from each other. The butter naan had a very soft, doughy texture and the garlic naan was more brittle, almost like a cracker. The rice was deliciously fluffy came out in a large plate, definitely big enough to share between 2 people, 3 if you stretch it a bit but you do get alot for only $2.50. The curry portion was also very good. I had enough for dinner that night and leftovers for a small lunch the next day too. Was in the mood for some indian food and wanted to try somewhere new so me and my SO chose this place because of the couple of reviews and how close it was from our house. I have seen this place many times going to I luv PHO for my hangover remedies and it always looked empty. I think I got something called chicken nihari. it was a spicy chicken curry and it was by far one of the best indian food I had in a while. I ordered some butter and garlic naan...1st and than some rice later on because my SO needed it to help with the spicy food. Even the naan and the rice was good too... We went to here at 8.40pm today and the lady run to us as we entered in and said in a very rude behavior that we can take you in. When we asked it's not too late we are in time. So she said we can't bcoz we take last order at 9pm. I was so surprised as it was closing at 11pm. When I asked her what's your name she said I don't want to tell you my name. Okay today I felt like I had Indian Cuisine for the first time! I've eaten Indian food many times but this food is cooked with love - there is no doubt. Chicken Tikka Márcala was by far my favorite dish The chicken was so tender it melted like butter on your tongue , and the sauce- Wow! served with rice and Nam Garlic Bread. It was truly an almost out of body experience. It was like trying Chocolate for the first time- that good! This is one of those places that envelops you and makes you a lover of Indian Cuisine and then when you go to other places and ask for the same food - you'll always say - it's good but not as good as Lazeez. (Nasir is the owner and also one of the Chef's the other is his wife). Truly Home cooking. If you love Indian food then you will fall in love again and if you have never tried Indian Food this will be the only place you will want to go to to eat it. I have read the reviews and I am surprised what service and experiences I have read upon these customers. The past few times that I have went to the restaurant, a young man, (sadly to say I never gotten the gentleman's name) will kindly lead my boyfriend and I to the table. We will usually order two types of curry: Goat Nihari and TikkaMasala. I believe the servings are pretty good since I usually have a lot of curry left when we spilt the order of rice. I believe one time, we decided to try their Mango Lassi. To be fair, it was nice, it was understandable we would had to wait a good min since they did not want to serve us rotten mango lassi, so they remade another fresh cup for us. I am dumbfounded that this place does not have a 5 star rating. I'm so glad this restaurant was recommended to me by a friend, otherwise I may not have tried it based on the yelp reviews. The menu is expansive, but the staff has always been helpful with recommendations. Our go-to staples and new discoveries have all been outstanding. The flavors are beyond. If you are not used to the "Tava Style" then here is your tava 101.. Tava is basically a flat bottom utensil that is used for sauteing and making curry etc. So anything that is cooked on this flat bottom utensil openly with lot of spices and oil is considerd as tava style cooking. It can include egg curries, chicken, goat, beef, pav bhaji, pulao etc. So be ready to sniff wipe the sweat droplets from your forehead. The food here is spicy and generous amount of oil too. I wouldnt hold it against them, coz thats how the food is made. But I would have liked to see some kind of an indication that it can get your bottom to fire up! Anywho..I got their half chicken tandoori, chicken tava fry, goat nihari and naan. Those are also in the order that I liked and preferred. Chicken tandoori was well marinated, balanced spices and little charred from the grill which tasted very well. Tava fry chicken was 5/5 on the scale of hotness and while I liked how it tasted not sure how others might take it. If you burn up with the Taca Bell "Hot" sauce then this is NOT for you. The goat Nihari was mediocre at best. 3 goat pieces with extra oily gravy was not something that I was looking for. Naan was meeeeh! Have had better. My husband and I were on a quest to find good Indian food. We decided to tackle one new Indian place a week. Him originally being from North India and my family being from South India- we were looking for something authetic from either angle. So relying on reviews from Atlanta Magazine we made the trek from Alpharetta to Lazeez. (Btw,I am almost 90% sure the people who review Indian food at Atlanta Magazine are either lying, don't have taste buds, or have never eaten Indian food-included on their list was also Bhojanic, which I have reviewed as well) So contrary to Atlanta magazine- it's not amazingly good food. I could be wrong and maybe it's more authetic Muslim style Indian food- but the food was swimming in oil, not very tasty. We had the Green Gosht (goat), Malai Kofta, and Chicken Tava Fry. The only thing worth mentioning is the Chicken Tava Fry. It was a good tasty dish, but still oily. Malai Kofta, same as everywhere else, just more oil, Green Gosht- terrible. The meat was bland like it had been boiled and the trimmings left on were gelatinous. Overall, it wasn't super terrible. But it wasn't great. Still on a mission to find good Indian food in Atlanta (besides Madras Chettinaad, which I have also reviewed and is pretty darn good.) Oh and the place itself, is kind of hard to find. We went in with a larger group, and sometimes, that can cause issues (like last week but that's a story in and of itself). The entire staff was incredibly friendly, taking time to make sure we felt welcome. The food was wonderful. All of the flavors were very full. We each tried a little bit of the different dishes and everything i tasted was memorable. This is good, reasonably priced northern indian "muslim cuisine" and by that i mean, theres lots of meat on the menu. We ordered the goat nihari, malai chicken, darbari lamb, chicken biryani, fry lamb chops, and the chili chicken Everything that we ordered was fresh, and had lots of flavor. The biryani was pretty spicy and the naan that we ordered was great as well, we ordered four naan for 7 adults and it was enough. I think this is going to be my go to place for indian food... even though the food was spicy, it didn't hurt going down, and that says something :) The service was great as well, our server was informative and made good suggestions. All the food was good, or maybe the time we were eating, we were hungry :) but typical desi / pakistani indian cuisine. Spices were a little strong, but my mother wanted that way. Kids enjoyed butter chicken, Naan was fresh and crispy. Karhai was a little on greasy side but not back in flavor. they are expensive for the quantity they give. Sunday rolls around and like most people, I think "I need takeout Indian food". We've seen this place a million times by I Luv Pho but never go inside because it looks so depressing and empty. Now, we know why it's always empty and depressing: because it kind of sucks. We ordered takeout and the guy on the phone conned by girlfriend into ordering the Green Gosht and I got the chicken lentil rice something something dish. There was a few problems. First, you get your takeout food in black trashbags so you can't inspect it before you leave. When we got home, we found that no side order of rice was included with the Green Gosht- second the Green Gosht looked super gross with a puddle of oil sitting on top. Also, there was barely any meat at all. Seriously, there was 1 or 2 small chunks of meat, but plenty of bone. We just mixed the sauce from the Green junk with my rice dish and it actually tasted pretty good after we spooned all the oil off. I give this place 3 stars because I actually liked the flavors, but seriously- we have to have rice to eat saucy Indian food. I'm not going back to this place because they screwed first time customers by going cheap on rice. I hope this place goes out of business. We went there to carry home a to-go dinner. The server (who I think is the owner's son) was very friendly. We ordered only veg because it was Diwali (Indian Festival of Lights) but the food was amazing. The bullet naan is the best naan I've had so far. And the Bhindi Masala & Malai Kofta were equally good but very oily. But the Paneer Chilli was bland and a reason I will give this restaurant a 3-star rather than 4!! read more

The waiter was really nice and it appeared to be a family-like affair for the staff. The space was clean and quiet. I've had Indian food before but the people I went with didn't - everyone really liked their portions but it was hearty so we took leftovers and ate it the next day. YUMMMMMM I had the veggie korma (the first word, veggie... is supposed to be another word that I don't remember) - it was really creamy and savory and flavorful AND AND AND... The others had the chicken tikka masala, lamb chop fry, and goat something from the second page second section of the menu. The meats were apparently really soft. For a table of four, we purchased one rice, one plain naan, and one bullet naan. Which was enough and all the flavors complemented really well. Do try this place! This place is superb if you're a kabab lover or someone who loves oily food. I belong to the former category. But if you're like me who likes to start off with some kababs and then end it with nan's and curries then be ready to drink a lot of oil. THE GOOD - the kabab's on offer here are some of the best you'll get anywhere. The malai chicken kabab is heavenly. The chicken tangdi kabab was very flavorful as well the last time I went. THE BAD - If you're reading this while you're at Lazeez for lunch/dinner then I hope you've ordered only the kababs so far. The curries here are just inundated with oil. The last time I went to Lazeez, I specifically told the waiter to go easy on the oil but in spite of that there was way too much of unnecessary oil which just spoiled my experience. It makes you forget the delicious kababs that you started off with!! We ordered the kheema fry, the bheja fry, the goat nihari, kadai chicken and all of them had excessive amounts of oil floating on top. The bullet naan was very tasty but if u squeezed it, you'd extract enough oil that would avoid you from invading another country. To conclude, go here only for the kabab's and that would make you want to go here again and again. A nice little place tucked away in Norcross in a strip mall. We started off with appetizers: Samosas, chicken 65, & tandoori chicken. There were 13 of us & their service was AWESOME! Then we moved over to their mango lassi (not too thick and not too watered down either. Perfect taste & sweetness) and then we ordered palak paneer (AMAZING! Spicy but great), okra, LOTS of naan, butter chicken. Everything was served at the perfect temperature, perfect taste. Nothing was over done nor less. I can't believe I haven't been here before. When we told them about it, the lady just put in back on our table saying this is how we make it and I can't take anything back in kitchen. Seriously lady? What kind of customer service is this? U want people to eat your dish even if It's inedible? They didn't take the dish back, didn't take responsibility of it being bad, even charged us full amount for it. We haven't even reached home yet and I am already having stomach issues. Definitely never going back. The first thing I smell is Fabuloso (you know, the cleaning product) this lady was scrubbing the heck outta the floor and it was so clean (first impressions are always cleanliness and professionalism) the owner actually showed me to my table. She was so very sweet. The Tikki Masala in a tomato bisque was perfect! Creamy, spicy all just swirling in my mouth as I chomped on a perfectly crusted and soft warm Naan. My friend and I have been meaning to go to Lazeez for months, since he saw the top rating in Atlanta Magazine, but we hit a couple of roadblocks until today. So we finally made it, and my verdict is that it's good, but not so good that it's worth a special trip. Like someone else commented, it's not really clear how it made the top rating. I agree, it's somewhat different from other Indian restaurants, not that I'm too knowledgeable on the difference between Muslim Indian and Hindu Indian. The naan was different--oily for sure. My friend really liked our Chicken 65 appetizer and the yogurt sauce. I had Chicken Biryani, which was good, but I didn't like the little bones I had to deal with. Other cons were not having utensils when we started, having pretty small portions, being kinda far, and the oiliness causing some minor heartburn. On the positive side, the flavors were good and different (and I do like to try things that are different and good), the prices were good, and the staff were nice. We were surprised that there was no one else there, also a little surprised that there wasn't a lunch buffet. And there was a comment on another review about the Chicken Tava Fry, which didn't seem to be on the lunch menu, so that was a disappointment too. This place is definitely worth the drive but you have to order specific dishes in order to have a great experience. Their Chicken Malai Kabab and Bullet naan are the best in Atlanta. Stay away from the curries if you don't like oil floating as that is a style of cooking not suited to everyone's palate. Stay with grilled meats, dry Paneer (Indian cheese) dishes, naans and rice dishes. The food is very reasonably priced for the quality of meat. I have even catered from them and my guests have left raving about the food. Its a family run restaurant and everyone has always been warm and friendly with us including while placing a catering order. The owner was very helpful in helping me figure out quantities and gave me great instructions on reheating the food to seal in maximum flavor. Glad we have this option for Indian food in Atlanta. I love Indian food but this restaurant... definitely are other restaurants better than this one like heart of India, currylicious etc. The lady was also in a bad mood I think. Too pricey for the location. Everything is a la carté. I stop going there because I don't pay a la carté prices, and they don't like other than Indians. I'd rather go to the Indian buffet on jimmy carter, across the overpass inside the Indian mall. Prices and food are awesome. read more
