Right before my third appointment at Say It Nails Downtown, I noticed some darkness under one of my nails. At my next visit, when the gel was removed, it became clear that one of my nails had a large green spot. The nail technician explained that this may have happened because the gel hadn't cured properly and mentioned she had seen this before, assuring me it was nothing to worry about.
Out of caution, I decided not to apply gel again until the green spot cleared, as I was understandably concerned. After removing the gel, the technician simply filed my nails and lightly cleaned my cuticles. I was then charged $80, which came as a surprise, especially since very little was done to my nails, and I was now dealing with an issue that appeared to stem from a manicure I had received at the same salon.
After leaving, I saw a dermatologist and was diagnosed with Green Nail Syndrome, a bacterial infection caused by Pseudomonas. I was prescribed an antibiotic treatment. That evening, still shocked by both the situation and the charge, I reached out to the salon to explain and requested a refund for the $80.
Unfortunately, the salon owner acknowledged in writing that it was a health concern but told me I should be grateful they only charged $80 instead of the full $120 appointment price (for a new gel set). My concerns were dismissed rather than addressed.
When a client experiences a negative outcome potentially linked to your service, the response should be rooted in empathy and accountability--not minimization. I have never written a negative review before, but I was truly taken aback by how this situation was handled and feel compelled to share my experience to caution others.
