They are always overbooked and they can't manage. And then the job was so bad, and when I asked to redo because the gel polish was chipping she burnt my finger. They were so mad even though I gave them 20% tip that they burnt my finger. Sad I loved this place the first couple of times but just had horrible customer experience the past 3 times I went. I always tip 20% just get gel, I made an apt days in advance and asked for French tip. When I was in, and asked for French the women snapped at me and said there wasn't time. I asked if I could come back later on a different day and she said no, I couldn't make an appointment for the next two days. Also originally she had said a removal would be 5 dollars but then charged me like 12. Overall I didn't care about paying it just took like an hour for a removal as the started servicing other customers, also not fun to be publicly shamed. Used to be my go-to. Now? Never again. After almost 2 years of loyalty and sending 3 friends their way, today was the last straw. While Tao does a decent job with gel, the customer experience is consistently cold and today, it was hostile. A tech rolled her eyes and snapped at me for asking to file two nails shorter. Then she started talking angrily to the tech next to her in a second language but it doesn't take a genius to decipher the tone and anger. Even the woman next to me looked super uncomfortable. To top it off, when I asked about chrome powder, I was ignored until another customer chimed in to confirm they do offer it. Literally what's the point in that? I'm not one to view getting my nails done as a luxury, as after years on end, i now consider these services as more "'maintenance." and so try to cut some corners to save some money by going to the down low, questionable, and cheaper spots. However, TAO has allowed me to change my mind about what's worth it and what's not. Calling for an appointment is a smooth and stress-free process. I've called last minute both times I came in and they were able to accommodate (am I exhausting my luck?). Rachel's work is outstanding and thorough. I was astonished by her dedication, concentration, and high attention to detail as she was finished my damaged nails (ripped them off after getting them botched by a nail shop nearby). She got every single nook and cranny and did not let one flaw slide by. I'm so used to be treated like a cash cow at nail shops where they cut you or don't make your nails even, etc, so when Rachel went HAM into making sure my nails were perfect, I felt like the luckiest girl in the world. Aside from that, despite being more average in price for a regular pedicure ($35 + $5 gel take off), i felt treated like a princess, too. The salon doesn't have the traditional pedicure chairs, but a regular comfy chair that they bring a bucket/basin to where you soak your feet. while they get your basin ready, you can pick a color. there's a good amount of natural and neutral colors available (which is right up my alley), but i brought my own polish. you're then offered some tea/coffee/water, as well as a little chocolate on the side. The tech was more thorough than other places in EV, which i really appreciated. they do do hot stones, which was nice, but only for your feet. the hot towel was more warm, than hot, which wasn't as comforting. you're then moved to a drying fan overall, the quality of the pedicure was great. i was pleasantly surprised by the massages here. not only did they give foot/leg massage, my tech did a nice quick head and neck massage as well. Overall, this place is different than the rest--they treat guests like friends and you can feel that! You really feel the warmth, friendliness, and intimacy of the place--as they're offering you treats, tea, etc. For once, i felt happy to tip and not just social customarily obligated. it was peaceful, relaxing, and a rejuvenating experience that i forgot was possible! read more

Customer service was nice at first, I was greeted by the owner who took my coat and desserts out of my hand for me to get comfortable but I was disappointed beyond that because the nail tech cut my nails too short so we couldn't do the silver glitter ombré nails I wanted since it just didn't look right. The tech also cut one of my cuticles causing me to bleed for a little and they charged me $45 for the gel nails $3 for painting the nails glitter when that's the nail polish which I don't understand. It was very relaxing, not crowded at all and I was able to enjoy the time while I was there. 2. Rachel, the girl who did my nails, was super friendly and cared about small little details. However, the past few times I have gone they have been SEVERELY overbooked to the point that every time I come I am waiting 20+ minutes for someone to even seat me and they are so rushed and frantic that the quality has gone massively down. Cute place with nice staff. Unfortunately for the pedicure they have the typical nyc option where you sit on a chair and have a bucket for the pedicure. It was very uncomfortable especially for someone with long legs having to balance while trying to relax. They just use the stone on your feet, not legs. And the warm towel is warm-ish but not hot. It's decent enough but I'd prefer some place with proper spa seating Also found it off that I came in flip flops and they pu disposable ones on my feet for the polish. This salon tucked away in East Village/Alphabet City is a hidden gem with reasonable prices, attentive staff, and a 5-star experience. I got a regular pedicure for $35 which included all the fixings: a flower petal soak, foot scrub, massage etc. Annie spent just about an hour on me and paid attention to every detail! Lately, they've clearly been overbooking regardless if you have an appt and I won't be returning unless it's for a special occasion. My gel was soaking off for 20 min. (way too long) while the owner left me to do a pedicure. I said "'my hands are hurting" after 15 min. and I went to remove the foils and was told to wait. Someone else then did the rest of my manicure. She then filed my nails roughly to the point where one finger started to bleed. Typical appts there takes 1.5-2 hours so this is not a place to go if you're in a rush. I hope the service improves as they get busier. read more
