More of a nail salon than a waxing spot but they did a pretty good job. The sugaring room was incredibly small. I did my legs here which was fine but if I wanted to do something that requires more precision and care like Brazilian I wouldn't book this place. At the end, all of the wax and powder wasn't removed properly and there was wax on the paper by my feet which ended up getting on me while I was getting up. The nail salon looked nice and I will probably sugar my legs here in the future because it's cheaper and this place feels very natural but I wouldn't recommend a Brazilian. read more

Katie was my nail technician who did a great job with my cuticles and covering every millimeter of nail with polish. I loved how detail oriented she was. The salon also didn't look or smell like a typical nail salon. It was super cozy with warm lighting, wood accents and a great smelling candle burning. CJ was also very lovely and helpful. I've been to Hortus Nailworks twice and have really enjoyed it both times! What initially attracted me to the salon was how cute and clean it looked in the pictures. It definitely lived up to all expectations. The salon itself is warm and cozy. It's small, with 4 manicure and 4 pedicure stations, which makes it feel more calm and intimate. There are plants throughout the store, which brings extra zen. I had a Signature Pedicure and the New Yorker manicure, which were both really comforting and detail oriented. The owner of the salon is really friendly and chatty, and the service overall is really great. When I (sadly) damaged one of the nails on my pedicure the first time I went, my pedicurist immediately offered to fix it and did so in 5 minutes. I love that they want to make sure you leave with flawless nails! In terms of cleanliness, they always used brand new sealed or washed tools, and as soon as my pedicure was completed, they sprayed down the entire tub with disinfectant and whisked away the metal tools to wash them. read more

There gel color book is so organized - I often get overwhelmed but start to finish this place is a step above the rest. It is very zen in there...the environment supports its organic and healthy branding platform. I found this place on a Google search of Best Nail Salons in NYC! It is a cute little place and I swear I almost missed it (and I had an Uber drop me off haha). You have to call them when you arrive so that the manager can open the door for you. I was warmly greeted by Ryan who took my temperature, gave me hand sanitizer, and then asked me to wash my hands with soap and water. This salon has 4 manicure stations, each fitted with a plexi glass shield between the client and technician, with a small space under the glass to make the hands accessible. There are also 4 pedicure stations in the back. There is a small plexi glass shield between each client. The pedicure technician wore a face shield and was double masked. Everyone was wearing a mask at all times. Currently, water bottles are not permitted as that would mean that the person would be taking off their mask to drink. I felt completely safe here! I started off with my signature pedicure. It was my first post covid pedicure and it was desperately needed. The technician used a new buffer and nail file. Even the callus remover had its own pad that was removed after being used on me. I don't remember seeing the instruments coming out of a sterile package but I hope that they were properly cleaned between clients. The technician was so kind and always making sure I was ok with the water temperature and how my nails looked during each step. She was also the same person who also did my shellac manicure so I knew I was going to get great care and attention. I absolutely love this place and I cannot wait to go back. Wonderful! A charming and peaceful nail salon located on Forsyth St in NYC (close to the corner of E Houston). Both manicures and pedicures are done thoroughly, with patience and are not rushed. The massage and moisturizing oil used at the end of a pedicure is really nice vs using lotion that never seems to provide lasting moisture. This is also a non-toxic environment in which no harsh chemicals are used in any of their services. Quality polishes (Essie, Zoya, Orly) are available for selection, and a wide selection of gel polishes are available for gel manicures and pedicures as well. The service and staff are great and Jane, the owner, is very accommodating. They also offer sugaring services and various skin care treatments (red light therapy and skin peels). A noticeable and evident focus on quality and cleanliness is present in this establishment. A pleasant experience on every trip! Two of my best friends treated me to a gel manicure here to celebrate my city hall wedding. The vibes are cute and you definitely get energies from the plants laid out around the store. They serve you tea or water when you sit down. However, my nails chipped less than 24 hours after getting them done. By 48 hours later, two nails had chipped (photo attached). I came back in to get my chipped nails fixed, and waited quite a while to be helped (even though I made an appt). Apparently this place uses 'soft gel,' so it chips more easily than regular or japanese gel which is what I'm used to. I don't get how any type of gel would chip more easily than a normal manicure I'd do myself. I then got a lecture on the gel not setting because my nails were brittle and breaking at the tips. I get that maybe I don't have the healthiest of nails, and that you don't want to look bad...but lecturing your customer is pretty rude. After I got my nails fixed in the store, two other nails started peeling. And these were long & strong nails that did not have any breakage. I don't really understand why there are such good reviews here because I got treated rudely and also got a poor quality manicure. read more

We found HORTŪS online after googling best nail salons near the Standard Hotel and it didn't disappoint; it was welcoming and warm. it was clean and modern without being sterile looking. We were immediately greeted by a friendly, happy receptionist the nail technicians were lovely, thorough, and efficient. The owner was awesome, attentive, and great to talk to. After deciding on what I wanted to do, she introduced us to our technicians, Diana and Eva. They were also pleasant. At first I didn't want a pedicure because of my experience getting pedicure, something always goes wrong, but my "LiL DIVA " wanted to do a mani and pedi. So I went with the happy hour special that wa $60 for me and $30 for her, taxes and tip of course as well. Anyway it all worked out. Diana did an amazing job with my feet and manicure. It was just a basic pedicure as well. Nothing special, but she did an awesome job. Megan makes it very clear with you as to what service you are requesting before she sets you up with your technician. I loved that because no surprise bill when you are done. Overall they were clean, the environment was very tranquil, my daughter and I left very happy and refreshed from our tea and water. I'm very pleased with my nails and will make another visit in the future, just to see if I experience the same quality and services. Think I may look into getting a spa pedicure next time. F.Y.I. Whatever they use to rub my feet and hands with, I want some of that, because my hands and feet stayed moisturize for hours after they were done. My daughter and my skin was just glowing. read more

I've had this nail salon on my list for a while. I made a last minute appointment at around 2PM for a signature pedicure . The woman on the phone was extremely polite. When I arrived I was asked to select my polish color. There is a large selection of polish. I was then taken back to the pedicure area and was asked to wait a few minutes for the nail technician. There are plastic partitions between the seats, which made me feel very safe. My nail technician was polite and made sure I was comfortable. My nail technician did an excellent job, my toenails looks great and my feet feel so soft! The technician was very precise and made sure every nail was perfect. The pedicure took about 40 min, then I was taken to the nail drying station. Overall this salon is very clean with a very relaxing vibe and polite staff. $55 is a higher price point for a pedicure, but I thought it was worth it. If $55 is above your price range, they do have other pedicure options which cost less. read more

I just moved from the west coast and was looking for a solid nail place. Hortus has great reviews and seemed like a great atmosphere. The service itself and environment were great. I felt very comfortable and everyone was very kind and welcoming. I got their gel manicure on 6/5 and by today 6/8 (3 days later), I already have a chip unfortunately! I haven't done any real extraneous activity for the chip and have healthy nails. I was hoping these nails would at the very least last more than 4 days! TLDR; Pros: Nice staff, beautiful salon, gel is applied neatly and there was a high level of attention during all parts of the manicure. Why not five stars? Con: Overpriced for the quality of gel used and the level of service. Called 30 minutes ahead and was fortunate enough to make an appointment. Arrived, and the manager (perhaps?) greeted me and offered me a beverage. I declined initially, until she mentioned sparkling wine and I quickly changed my mind . Yes, please. I was seated immediately (with my glass of sparkling wine ) and my nail tech, Eva, began working. The process wasn't rushed, she was gentle but not passive with cutting my cuticles, and ultimately did a wonderful job applying the gel (thin layers, clean edges, applied a coat to the tips, etc.). I asked for a design on two nails. I didn't have anything in mind, just allowed her to freestyle. I just asked for something simple. She kept it neat, but cute, which is what I wanted. The hand massage at the end was also heavenly. The process took about an hour. The salon itself is beautiful. Super relaxing, earthy, and the music selection (mostly jazz) was super relaxing. The beverages are a nice touch. I'll definitely go back, but unfortunately I wouldn't use this as my biweekly salon. My manicure came out to around $62 (before tip) with designs on only two nails. Luckily I went in with bare nails, else it would've been $72. There are more affordable salons, with comparable service (including beverages) and more durable gel options (e.g. calgel), for folks like me who like new gel every 2ish weeks without breaking the bank. I just moved to the area and have been trying out different nail salons to find my new go to spot! Hortus had great reviews and was very optimistic, but was so disappointed. The ambiance is beautiful and when they told me a gel manicure was $60 I was not thrilled but assumed it would be worth it. Unfortunately, this was not the case. It took them 3 tries to get off my previous gel manicure. They kept barely filing the gel, so after sitting with the acetone it wasn't able to come off. They kept acting like it was the fault of the previous nail salon I had been to, when they really were making zero effort to speed along the process. In addition, my nails chipped after literally 2 days. This is also the first saloon I have been to in NYC (been to 5 others) that didn't do any sort of massage. So disappointing. The space itself is very cute but the way the owner treated her staff made me quite uncomfortable. It seemed that the receptionist was new and the owner was talking down to her as if she were a child- she was belittling her while telling her how to do simple tasks and there is no reason to treat people like that. The technicians barely spoke and the woman doing my nails kept looking at the clock so it feels like a tightly run ship, not a relaxing atmosphere.
