We heard about the lovely scones that they make. Heads up they don't take plastic. Cash only. We didn't know that and we placed our order and we were about to pay then we found out no plastic. So we looked in the wallet and the car for cash. We were still short to pay. The owner walked by and said its no problem. That was wonderful of her. It was well worthy the embarrassment. I understand it was a busy Sunday, but there was a lack of acknowledgement, a sour look and curtness that were unwarranted. Lazy Janes is not a restaurant that would work in many places besides Wisconsin. It's in a rather cramped space that obviously used to be someone's house. So expect to be elbow to elbow with a few other folks. Be polite, be patient, and eat a scone because they are amazing. Weekend mornings are hectic, especially after church gets out Sunday. The food is great, better than most breakfast places around. Staff is friendly and the coffee is good. I personally like the atmosphere, but some may find it too crowded when it gets busy. Here are the things I love about you: -The decor make you feel like you are eating in your grandmother's living room, a ski lodge, and an art gallery all at once. -I like playing Scrabble while eating your delicious food. -I enjoy the camaraderie you feel in line while waiting to order. -I think it is adorable that your "OPEN" sign switches to "NOPE" when you are closed. -The food is excellent, and the lack of brunch cocktails encourages me to not waste my weekends day-drinking, which I am prone to. Here are things that I dislike, but will accept as part of life: -The long lines every day. I like you a lot, but sometimes I need hangover food immediately and opt to go to a way worse place across the street. -Cash only always throws me off. I wish you would accept my plastic or at least my good intentions as currency. -The gluten-free toast you have is kinda gross. My favorite bakery in Madison! The baked goods are perfection and they even have delicious coffee. A lot of times bakeries focus only on the food and have bad coffee and I love my coffee in the morning! Every baked good I have had here has been good but the morning buns are my favorite. I moved here two years ago from Vermont (originally NH) And as soon as I walked in, it felt like I had been transported back to Burlington, Vermont.... which is a fabulous place by the way. While visiting Madison from KCMO, this place was recommended for brunch. Yay! We loved it. You order at the counter and then wait to be called back for your food order. I liked that I could order some a la carte items. I ordered the the Pig in a Blanket, and added an egg as a side. Also had some delicious hot chocolate. I really liked the mixed thrift store plates, and retro tables and chairs. There is seating upstairs and downstairs. When I think of Lazy Janes I think of a sunny Saturday morning following a visit to the farmers market! While yes great in the winter too...I just love the cozy homey feel of this place. It can be packed on the weekend so you need to bring your patience, but if you come with good friends the wait is part of the fun! Baked goods are obviously amazing...their scones are some of the best I've ever had (get the raspberry if it's available) and their morning buns are phenomenal. Their food is always good and looks like your mom was in the kitchen cooking for you...nothing overly fancy but well done and delish. I do miss that they don't yell your name out anymore from the kitchen when your order is up...that was part of the quirky charm to me, instead you now get a pager. Super accommodating to modifications with the order. I order the "speedy eggwich" with bacon - excellent. My mother got "the works," she thoroughly enjoyed it. My father ordered the "chorizo scramble," he enjoyed his meal as well. The portions are a good size for the price. The side of potatoes was not my favorite, I prefer them super crispy. Lazy Jane's is a cute little breakfast/lunch spot that my friends and I love to go to! It is in a little house off of Willy street, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I really like their egg dishes- eggs with turkey sausage, frittatas, egg scramblers, etc. My boyfriend loves the BLT, and I really enjoy the turkey sandwich melt (a cold sandwich that I ask for warm). As other reviewers have mentioned. come here for the scones! This place has, hands-down the best scones I've had in my life. I got the orange chocolate chip scone, just utter perfection. We also got brunch food -eggs (with cream cheese) and coffee. The eggs were okay, wasn't a big fan of the cream cheese combination. The potatoes though!! It's probably the best roasted potatoes I've ever had. Most places make it kinda dry, this one is soft and so greatly seasoned. Perfect texture and taste. Yummyyy! All in all, I'm a fan of this place. It can get crowded so expect to wait for a seat, hover around and be aggressive or else you won't get a group table. Food takes forever too. If I'm in a rush I would go here just to grab the scones and leave. Too bad I don't live in the East side; otherwise I would come here probably at least once a week for a scone! read more

The line outside the door is hard to deal with especially when you don't want to hear everyone's cheerful banter about all the great things they're doing in life. And when you're hungry, 30 minutes is too long to just order. I order a chorizo scramble with pumpernickel bread, a lemon scone, and hot apple cider. The cider was advertised to satisfy my seasonal craving but it truly did not. Seriously lacking spices and warm at best. The chorizo scramble didn't taste of chorizo, but rather a cheap American version of the sausage that had no bite. I'd come back for the scones, but who wants to wait 30 minutes for a mouth watering scone?? read more
