Didn't expect a tip line as they don't have servers. Everything is counter. New hire got the $1 for being eager to help.

Maybe I've been exposed to things differently and didn't appreciate that's an exception not the rule yet I did believe or worked with the thought that if I called in advance to place an order that custom items or requested items wouldn't be a problem. 9.9.2019 I asked and was told: They Don't just make items requested they set aside a pan if you want a larger quantity. I tried to order key lime bars as the website said it's not available daily so I thought advance notice could help make it happen. No. I tried ordered cream cheese filled croissants since the site says stuffed croissants. Again, nope. They only do chocolate. In my mind that's not hard to list on the site. Or, at least take the generic reference down and make it more specific so it's understood. I'm going to say this is more of deli?!?! Not a bakery kind of thing that also happens to sell food. IN THE BUCKY BOOK

Goosberry has taken a well-known but boring space and transformed into a modern, hip place. Menus are available on the big screen tv for your perusal. I am commenting on the lunch. I went for a turkey reuben. Much to my surprise it was actual shredded roast turkey and not just deli meat. Score! There are a variety of sides you can choose to go with your sandwich, including fries and kettle chips. There was one more but I can't remember it. Hubby had a portabella sandwich and fries. He liked it, and said it seemed to have been marinated in a unique sauce before grilling. There is also an extensive salad bar that seems to be really popular with the lunch crowd. Service was fairly fast and efficient, considering they just opened. This is the sister location to Heritage Bakery and Cafe on my side of town. The owners are locals, send their kids to the school up the street, and are very nice people. So if you are looking to eat locally, this is a place do it.

It's OK. It's over-priced. It's not a destination. It looks like no one has done something untoward to the salad bar. Mostly harmless.

Weary is an eclectic space that is full of a hodgepodge of artwork, mirrors, lighting, decor and a bunch of random items that just make sense together. The vibe here is uniquely local for this part of Madison and from the moment you enter through the large ornate wooden door, you are teleported into a special space where a good time is sure to be had! We have come here for Friday Fish Fry, weekday lunch and weekend brunch, and we have never left unhappy or hungry. The menu is made up of mostly classic dishes such as salads, soups, burgers and sandwiches, with a few mains like steak frites and pork chop. Brunch has your classic brunch dishes such as breakfast plates, biscuits and gravy, burrito and of course, French toast. The fish fry is excellent here, especially the pan fried version, which still provides the light, crisp and fresh fish but less the thick breading. For brunch, the breakfast burrito add sausage was spot on and super tasty! For cocktail, they have a stellar menu of house curated cocktails. For brunch, I went with the Bloody Mary and outside of brunch hours, I gravitate to the Killer Bees Knees gin based cocktail. I will grab a beer on occasion, but the cocktails are too good to pass up! Service is always stellar here whether we are sat in the dining room or bellied up to the bar. Overall, absolutely in love The Weary Traveler Freehouse!

I ordered Friday night fish fry, which was deep fried haddock, a popover, coleslaw and french fries. All of the food was cooked perfectly. The area is very moody lighting and even has small lamps on each table. Our server and staff were great and everything came out timely. We got an old fashioned and a sangria. The sangria is strong but you won't know it until you stand up. We started with the cheese puppies and they had a fantastic pull to them. Some of the best version of cheese curds I've had in a while. My husband and I both had salads and the bowl was too small for the salad but it was a decent salad I do wish the cheese was sprinkled on top as it ended up going to the bottom of the bowl. For an entree I had steak frites. Fries were solid and the cooking of the steak was good with the charcoal but it didn't have much flavor. The chard on the side was also good considering I've never had it. For dessert we had the valentine special chocolate cake and again it was good but nothing super special. We didn't stick around the bar too long but enough to get a winning pull tab. I would come back for the bar tenders they seemed chill.

I ordered the burger and after just two bites I could tell it wasn't for me. It was extremely greasy and, despite that, lacked flavor. The sauce on it was overpowering and didn't really help bring everything together. I ended up paying for a burger I could barely eat. The truffle fries also missed the mark. If you're looking for that classic truffle fries experience, this isn't it -- the truffle flavor was very subtle and the aioli was a bit too heavy. They also forgot one of my friend's items, which was disappointing. It may have just been an off day, but overall it wasn't the experience we were hoping for.

The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a warm and upscale atmosphere that makes for a great date night. Service was also very good -- our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and helped us navigate both the menu and wine selections. The meal started strong. The beet salad was fresh and well-balanced, and the gnochetti with clams was easily the standout dish of the night. The broth was rich and flavorful, and the bread paired perfectly with it. It leaned a little salty, but not enough to take away from the dish. Unfortunately, the main course was where things fell apart for us. The flavors were overwhelmed by salt, making it difficult to appreciate the other components of the dish. Instead of feeling balanced, it seemed like several already salty ingredients were layered together, resulting in a dish that tasted far more seasoned than intended. Presentation throughout the meal was attractive and thoughtfully executed, which made the disappointment with the main course even more noticeable. Given the restaurant's reputation, we were expecting a more refined and balanced execution. That said, there were enough positives -- particularly the atmosphere, service, and some of the smaller plates -- that we'd be willing to give it another try and explore other parts of the menu in the future.

We had reservations, so we were seated right away which was a plus. Also, I will say I don't think any of the issues we had were because of our waitress. She was super friendly and quick enough to take our orders on a day when there restaurant seemed full enough, but manageable. We got our drink orders in and our food at the same time to speed up the process for getting little kids food, and the waitress even took note of that. We also ordered an appetizer to help during the wait. It took a while for the drinks to come out, but they were all rather tasty. I think my apple cider mocktail was the best and refreshing since it was getting hot in the restaurant with the sun beating in. Our food however took forever and the kids meals did not come out any earlier than everyone else. One person in our group also initially didn't get his meal, which the waitress apologized and said there was a mixup in the kitchen. That's fine, it happens, but then the staff running meals tried to bring him the wrong order 3 times. The rest of us were all finished eating by the time he finally got his food. Overall, the food was fine. I got the eggs benedict which was a little underdone on the eggs for me as the whites were too runny for me. The kids chicken nuggets were pretty tasty with a flaky breading. I heard decent reviews of the breakfast burger, but the thing that was the best to us was the breakfast sandwich. It was quite messy, but the messiness of the sauce was worth it. We also got an appetizer of the cinnamon roll. I feel like it's a little mislabeled though, as it was more like a morning bun with some frosting/glaze over the top. Tasted pretty good and helped keep kids entertained for a while. Overall, the food was fine, but the experience wasn't great. With the multiple mixups in orders and getting a little green house effect going with the sun shining in, there wsnt a great feeling when leaving. Again, I don't think it was our waitresses fault, so not sure what was going on in the kitchen.

Our appetizer arrived at the same time as our food. A big serving no-no. The server should have spaced out our meal. I ordered the fish sandwich and asked for no tartar sauce - I also asked for sweet chili sauce on the side. My sandwich came with tartar sauce on it and no sweet chili sauce. They did end up remaking my sandwich and it was served to me with two slices of cold cheese that hadn't melted yet on the sandwich. Our appetizer pretzel was good but didn't have any salt? Is this normal? Seems odd for a pretzel... My partner ordered the CBR wrap with Buffalo sauce and a side sauce of garlic Parmesan aioli. His sandwich came with no Buffalo sauce and he thought his garlic Parmesan aioli lacked flavor but when I tasted I realized they gave him avocado aioli instead. The fact so much went wrong with the meal had us scratching our heads - was this a kitchen mistake or had our server just totally mis-entered so much of our meal into the system? She did action the changes but seemed confused at first for how to solve my partners no Buffalo sauce request. As a previous server it would have been a no brainer for immediately getting my customer what they originally asked for. The food tasted great, but all around was such a poor experience we won't return. It felt like with all the mistakes there was no sincere apology on the servers end, just a shrug and "oopsies" mentality. There are too many great restaurants in Madison to be spending money at places where service isn't prioritized.
