We wanted to try the Tomahawk but it wasn't on the menu so we decided to do steak on another day. To drink we ordered the apple cider. The cider was delicious and very crispy like I was eating a Cortland apple. We were served crispy bread with herb butter. The bread was crispy like toast and the butter was soft. It came with a small jar of baby dill pickles. They had a good crunch! We started with the lobster bisque. This bisque was very tasty. We could taste the lobster and it was very light; not a heavy or overly creamy soup. Pooh ordered the seafood risotto and I took the Dijon chicken. Both dishes were amazing. Pooh really enjoyed his risotto. He likes the addition of zucchini to give it a little crunch . The seafood was cooked to perfection. My chicken was super tender. I could taste the Dijon mustard. The mashed potatoes were smooth and the green beans were crispy and cooked perfectly. Our server was very polite and checked on us regularly. He apologized for not getting the wine when our meal arrived. Our only complaint was the wine. Usually the wine arrives right before the meal but our meal arrived first and we ate slowly as we waited for the wine to come. The wine arrived five minutes later and the server explained that it wasn't cold enough to give us. By the time I finished eating (because we had to wait for the wine) my potatoes were cold. We finished our evening with dessert. I had the lemon-in-a-jar and Pooh had the Crème brûlée. Pooh's crème brûlée was perfect. My lemon dessert was too sweet. The tartness of the lemon was overpowered by the sweetness of the almond crumble We enjoyed our meal and the service was excellent but they need to put the white wine in a cooler sooner.

I order a salmon meal. The salmon was tasteless but thankfully the sauce helped it. The mocktail was good. They had quite good amount of people there on a Sunday but definitely had open tables if I wanted to sit at a two seater but they suggested I go to the bar which is huge, but no one else was sitting there. Overall an okay spot, nice inside, my one dish was mediocre but not sure what the other dishes taste like.

We tried: - complimentary bread, butter, pickles, mustard. I loved this. Never saw another restaurant plop down mustard and pickles. The mustard was also possibly the most delicious mustard I've ever had. Very spicy and slightly salty - Duck confit on beans $37. Tasty, crispy, rich. - Grilled octopus on pepper sauce with potatos $24. Really tender and flavourful. The sauce was bright and acidic - Sorrel soup $13.75. First time having sorrel. It has a slightly sour taste. The soup was creamy and tangy. I'm glad we tried it - Quail with quail eggs on purple rice $37.50. Quail itself wasn't as flavourful but the sauce was amazing and soaked into the rice - Creme brulee $15. Flavour was impeccable. Had a slight grainy texture which was odd but this is just nit picking. Comes with a warm cookie Everything was good. I'm being more nitpicky here than usual, mostly to go back to these notes again in the future. I loved the meal and would definitely go back. Service is very friendly. Food came out super fast. The restaurant is bright and lively. Tables are quite cramped together but it makes sense as they quickly filled up for the evening. Thanks, we'll definitely be back!

I totally recommend this place if you're looking for a nice place for coffee and dessert. You walk in and feel like you have been transported to a restaurant in France. Beautiful French music flowing in the room, and the place is so lovely decorated. We ordered the lime cake cheesecake (chefs choice) and the lava chocolate cake. OMG they were both divine. I am not a sweet lover by nature but man taking one bite and you felt like you died and went to heaven. Everything was superb. It was also well presented. We had cappuccinos to pear that had just amount right of coffee. I am definitely going back to my husband for a romantic date night in the near future! All in all, highly recommend

I love that this restaurant has personality because it's actually in a old house with four different dining rooms which were literally rooms in the house. The supper crowd was mainly older Anglophone folks from the West Island. Personally every man in there had grey hair... I'm pretty sure the women did too but they tend to hide greys better :) Upon being seated, the waiteress brought a special occasion drink for us to celebrate our anniversary. I had the Mimosa with a flower in it. I noticed that they brought complimentary drinks to others as well so perhaps it's just something they do regardless of the occasion you put when making a reservation. Anyway that was a super special touch that I appreciated! For the amuse-bouche, we had these crackers with what I think was whipped foie gras. Very interesting taste with lots of texture. For the appetizers, we had the mackerel and the walnut crusted cheese. Mackerel is a challenging fish to master but I thought that they did a great job; I would have liked a little bit more of the cream sauce because the portion was large but otherwise very good. The walnut crusted goat cheese was also delicious though I'm not a big fan of goat cheese. For the mains, my fiancé wanted them to surprise him with the choice of between the fish of the day and the fish that was on their menu, the Dover sole. They picked the latter. After preparing the fish they brought the whole fish on a plate to show us and then they whisked it away to debone it and brought back just the filets. My main dish was the most exciting ever! They brought me the filet mignon steak to show me and then went over to the flambé station. They doused my steak in flambéd peppercorn sauce. Oh boy, I enjoyed the sauce so much I begged like Oliver Twist "Please, sir, can I have some more?" Luckily they didn't chase me down or beat me up like in the movie!! Instead, they brought me a gravy boat with more sauce!! :) Although they wouldn't tell me the ingredients in the sauce because it was their secret sauce. The dessert was a lovely bruléed maple ice cream. And I especially loved the final touch which was juicy, candied cherries coated in dark chocolate. Overall a very lovely and classy French dining experience without having to put on airs because you feel right at home in the Surcouf house!! :)
