BOTTOM LINE: Unfortunately, after you get past the novelty of the "exotic" meats, the dining experience is rather meh. I get it, it's Mont-Tremblant and there's definitely a "tourist" tax on prices, but even then, it's a hefty one compared to other restos in the area. Although the service was perfunctory, where it mattered the most - ahem, what's the recommended way to cook the meats on the hot plate, seemed quite lacking. It almost seemed like the recommendation was to fully cook every meat, which is almost certainly incorrect for most of what our group ordered. This is a fun dining experience. The host (possibly owner?) was super fun and exciting and I actually found his jokes funny. I really like the rustique vibe of the place. Gave it a fun ambiance. Some of the food was great, but we had mixed opinions about the hot-stones. It was awesome for land meats, but a bit of struggle for shrimp. I had a really nice bistro French dinner with my family here over the holidays. The host was very welcoming but reservations are really recommended. They were a tiny bit understaffed so our server was really running about without a break. It's so New Yorker to rush through dinner that sometimes I have to remind myself that it's okay if the pace is just...."European-style." Food was flavorful and portions were on the larger side. Foie was delicious, and the duck was succulent. I would not recommend the stone cooking unless you really want to try the exotic meats- they are really good cuts but I really wanted to have the chef do the cooking? Our family of 4 ate here on vacation from the US, once on each of two trips this week and the summer of 2019. My 18 yo son loved it the first time and asked to return. It is pricey but the hot stones are a cool experience! The staff is helpful and attentive. All four of us got the hot stones both times we went (salmon, chicken, shrimp, beef - my 18 yo adventurous eater tried alligator, ostrich, kangaroo, and duck). The food was extremely fresh and well seasoned. The sugar pie we had for dessert could have been better - the crust seemed store-bought and though I have never made it myself I wonder if it would be better made in a phyllo dough crust. The amazing accolades that I am going to give the restaurant do not do it justice. The service is warm and welcoming. The waiter will always keep your glass of wine full. The beef is amazing and there is nothing like searing your own steak on a hot stone. The best part was when a staff member saw that my kids were tired and the taxi may take 40 plus min he stepped up and said "I'll give you a ride back". It will be a story we will tell for years and phenomenal way to celebrate my wife's birthday. C'est la vie will always have a warm place in our hearts. read more

My friends and I enjoyed the food we had at this restaurant but I thought it was quite pricey. I think for the experience of cooking with a hot rock, it was pretty cool but it was out of all of our budgets so we refrained from ordering that. Again, very very cool. Our table ordered, the osso bucco, half magret, salmon, onion soup, a rack of lamb dish, tiramisu, and tomato soup. The duck was very good as I got it cooked medium. The osso bucco was very good as well. The pasta was al dente and the meat was soft and easy to eat. The salmon came with a sauce that was very delicious. Lastly, the rack of lamb did not have the "game" taste and was seasoned very well. There was a fruit on the tiramisu that was new to all of us and we discovered that it was call a "physalis." It was VERY good and now I wonder where I can get a caseload of those. read more

Fairly torn on this experience overall. While looking for a restaurant in Mont Tremblant, C'est La Vie kept coming up as one as one of the top reviewed options on a lot of sites. We had a very big group (15 people) and C'est La Vie had the space, so we made the reservation. This was several weeks before the visit, and the restaurant prepared a set menu for the group due to the size. I spoke with the restaurant several (at least 10 times) before the dinner, and confirmed several times that we would attend. The day of the reservation, we arrived at the restaurant and were surprised that the staff did not hold our reservation. We arrived early, about 10-ish minutes before our set time and expected to be seated right away, but the restaurant said that they tried to call us a couple hours prior to confirm the reservation, but we didn't pick up the phone (we were in vacation, so the group was split up between Scandinave Spa and skiing in the village, so we did not have our phones on us), so they cancelled the reservation. Keep in mind this was after weeks of planning a menu directly with the restaurant, and confirming the reservation with the staff less than two days prior to the reservation. This was not very professional. After arriving, the staff acted surprised that we showed up, made us wait for another 15-ish minutes, and finally made room for us. Now for the food. Very, very mixed. The appetizers were fantastic, the escargot puff pastry delicious, and the pate was great. The mains were okay. The restaurant is known for its hot-stone menu, which involves you cooking the meat at the table yourself, but this option wasn't great. I found it to be very unsanitary as additional utensils were not provided for touching the raw meat (other than a knife) , and it was dicey. Additionally, the raw meat was served whole, and the restaurant reccomends cooking the meat for one minute per side to get a good sear on the meat, then slicing it with the knife, and placing it back on the stone to cook to your preference. This was not ideal. Cutting into partially-cooked meat with a small knife at your own table is very difficult and not ideal, so we didn't love this option, especially the people that got the duck. It's VERY tough to cut raw duck with a partially dull serated blade. Again, only a knife was provided and no other utensils to touch the raw meat. Having said that, the guests at our table who didn't get the hot-stone meals enjoyed, so that would probably be my reccomendation if you went. The hot-stone just seems like a novelty. In terms of dessert, the tiramisu and sugar pie were fantastic. Overall, the restaurant didn't live up to the hype, but if you go, get one of the prepared dishes, instead of the hot-stone. 2.5/5 read more

Been to the place twice in different years. Lovely place, great food. All of it. Especially in coming in after day of skiing. We had a company of 10, so tried everything and everything was great. Nothing to complaint about, except price :) To argue with two stars review below... Expecting big portions and cheap prices at very good restaurant at the most popular ski resort is a little naive. And to prepare hot stone takes probably more effort than to just prepare dish. Again expect it to cost LESS - is just ridiculous. And nobody keyed in tips without asking us. read more

I'll preface this by saying that value is important to me and my family. I want to feel full after the meal is done and don't want to pay through the nose to achieve that. There are plenty of restaurants in New York City and throughout the world that meet these criteria. I did not feel that this was one of them. We went specifically because they had gluten-free options as a few of my family members are Celiacs. Turned out the only gluten free options are on their special hot stone menu where you cook the food yourself on what is essentially a personal hot plate. I guess some people may like that, but I would think that if I'm gonna cook the food myself it should be comparatively less expensive than if someone does it for me. The small portion sizes did not help the value equation in this case. The meat was good, but can't say it was in any way exceptional, and I couldn't help wondering where the rest of it was. The 3 sauces served on the side were seemingly pretty standard mayonnaise-based dips. The appetizers were pretty small as well. Foie gras, though delicious was tiny and expensive. Turned out that the gluten free bread was $3 per small roll (we only found this out after receiving the bill). Wine was good, though also slightly pricey. The service was fine, though it did take a very long time for the food to come out, the entres came about 2hrs after we sat down. When we were paying they quickly keyed in a 20% tip without asking. I felt that was a bit strange and presumptuous. Overall experience wasn't terrible but I certainly wouldn't recommend it. read more

My husband and I were lucky to get reservations for Family Day weekend. It is a small, cosy place with maybe 20 tables total. The service was amazing!! Someone was checking in with us all the time! The food was delicious. We started with escargot with cheese. The garlic butter was so luscious and the escargot was tender! The cheese just put it over the top. We both did the hot stone. My husband did the flank steak and I did tuna and half duck breast. They were out of bacon wrapped asparagus. We are convinced that I didn't get duck. Even though they cut the fat off, it didn't have the gaminess that duck has and the shape didn't look like a breast. The tuna was yummy and also the "duck." None of the proteins were seasoned or vegetables. The sauces that come with it were good, but tasted store bought. I know the difference in an aioli that is homemade. Overall it is a great place! Disappointing since we were expecting a really good meal as this restaurant was rated four stars. The fondue was tasty - as was the duck although it was a bit chewy. The terre et mer lava stone offered beef that again was too chewy (not filet mignon as the waiter insisted). The fruit de mer lava stone was poor and pricey for what it offered. Two shrimps, two small scallops and one thick and inedible chunk of octopus which despite much chewing was inedible. To add insult to injury all three sauces were mayonnaise based (ketchup & mayonnaise????). Service was very slow as the wait staff was overwhelmed by a party of ten that came in. Unique dining experience!! My wife found this gem of a restaurant on Trip advisor. We were looking for a unique dining experience and ew weren't disappointed. It is a small quaint restaurant filled with mostly locals but with a few tourist in the mix. The staff are friendly and are perfectly bilingual. What attracted us was the Hot Lava stone dishes that we saw online. These dishes are gluten free and the cooking is done at your table. The waiter advised us that for 8$ more we could make any meal a table Hôte which includes a house salad, a dessert and tea or coffee. Why not! The house salad (lettuce, tomato wedges and julienne carrot) was nothing special but the dressing was homemade and quite tasty. For my main course I chose the Canadian hot stone which consisted of three meats (Bison, Deer, Elk) with a side of mixed vegetables and asparagus wrapped in bacon. YUM! So they bring the hot stone platter and you sear you chunks of meat not then you slice of pieces and cook to your preference. All three were delicious and tender. I have had deer and bison before but not elk. They did not taste very gamey and are lean cuts. All three were of course cooked exactly to my liking (I was doing the cooking after-all) and were delish! My wife had the Calf Liver with the same vegetables but also with scalloped potatoes. It was cooked perfectly and very tender. We ordered a bottle of Malbec wine from a wine list with lots of reasonably priced wines ($30-$75) They even had a couple of half bottle choices. For dessert I chose the Tiramisu served in a jar and my wife chose the classic sugar pie. Both were excellent. A nice touch was the coffee which was served in a single serve french press. I haven't seen this in a while and it just capped off a perfect meal. Service throughout was attentive and friendly. This is a gem of a place in Saint-Jovite, a 20 minute drive from the Mont Tremblant village. We made a reservation for four for later in the day. The restaurant looked quaint like it could be in a Swiss town. We had the traditional fondue, vegetable raclette, a bowl of moulet (mussels), and onion soup. Everything was delicious. A male server from this restaurant was rude enough to embarrass one of their guests by ASKING for tips. Tips are NOT mandatory and to shout to the entire restaurant that one guest didn't tip is ridiculous. I like to call this place c'est la mediocre. The service here is very slow and it took over an hour for our food to come in a place where they don't ever cook the food! There was a severe lack of seafood and vegetarian options on the menu. The Yellowfin tuna steak was great when I cooked it well done but it could have used some seasoning. The vegetables were lacking flavor, however, the scalloped potatoes were amazingly delicious, cooked in a creamy sauce and baked to perfection . But if scalloped potatoes were the highlight of my experience at c'est la vie, then that say something about the mediocrity of the restaurant. Really good service! We're planning to have dinner at the restaurant that's beside C'est La Vie but it's closed. The waitress is really nice and she recommends me the pork dish, and it's pretty mediocre. My mom took the salmon dish and she doesn't really enjoy it, the basil sauce is too powdery. We paid $8 extra for having a salad/ soup and one dessert which is a pretty good deal; the salad is not bad and the tomato cream soup is a big portion, I didn't really have room for the main course haha. It was my first time trying stone cooking and it was just perfect for the rack of lamb that I had. Slow cooking kept the meat tender and juicy. Three sauces were interesting too. My 10-year old had the same with chicken, which was a steal at $12. My wife's duck confit was good too, but she said she would ask the sauce to be on the side next time.
