Stumbled upon this great seafood restaurant in the Latin quarter. Noticing the large fresh seafood display outside the corner of the restaurant, and being hungry, we crossed the street. Here a restaurant that it a little larger than most, still small tables but more room between tables. Nice, quiet and relaxing. We each chose the lunch prix fixe for 26€. I have an appetizer of four raw oysters, catch of the day fish over wonderful buttery hot mashed potatoes. Dessert was Creme brûlée and espresso. Debbie started with Bouillabaisse, them mussels. Yes I have always enjoyed them at Leon's, but this may worth going the extra mile for. The lunch bowl was abundantly plenty, easily could serve two. The mussels were plump and tender. Delicious. We passed by the place on accident. We were in the area, and saw fresh oysters/seafood for sale outside, and noticed it was attached to this restaurant, so we walked right in. Since we were a party of 2, we didn't order the seafood tower (which looked amazing at other tables!). We stuck to the mussels with frites and 1/2 dozen oysters along with other appetizers. The mussels were great and were the best part of the meal. Great selection of wines to accompany the seafood, and overall a nice romantic atmosphere for a date. read more

No no no!! we came again to try their lunch Special and when we got the bill, we noticed that our waiter yesterday ripped off the bottom of the bill that says tip included so we tipped him extra. What HORRIBLE service. We liked our meal today and are glad we received better service but would not recommend this place to anyone. We tried the escargot yesterday for dinner but upon reading yelp reviews, go across the street to Le Quartier General because they seem to be way better there. Talk about a happy accident! We were walking around the streets of Paris and I thought I stumbled on the random fish market in the middle of nowhere. It was actually a restaurant and what I thought was the fish market was the outdoor raw bar! It was a little fancy with tablecloths! The olive oil was in a perfume bottle. I opted for the 3-course lunch. Fish Soup - rich and warm on a rainy Parisian day Mussels & fries - tender enough to feed 6 people!!! I really don't understand why this place has such a low rating. My boyfriend and I found it to be our favorite restaurant out of our entire trip to Paris. The very first thing you notice when you get there is the awesome display of fresh seafood that they have right outside. I really thought that was a nice touch. We went on a busy Saturday evening and were seated immediately. The waiter that we had was so friendly and funny, even though he barely spoke English and we don't speak any French. The wine that he suggested to us was amazing and paired perfectly with our appetizer and entrees. To start off with, we ordered the mussels in cream sauce. No exaggeration, there had to be about 100 mussels in the dish that he gave us. It was amazing and by the time we finished we were almost too full to eat our entrees. I ordered the scallop and prawn skewers and by boyfriend ordered the special of the night which was tuna. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and had an overall amazing experience here. I guess most of the negative reviews come from having bad service but the food here should totally make up for that because it really is that good. Ok We saw the display, saw the towers and they managed to sit 8 of us in the late afternoon after a busy day out and about. There was a little sticker shock on the towers but in hindsight we read the prices incorrectly. They are priced based on the variety on your tower. We had the Seabass in Sangria sauce, the scallops/prawn skewers, the calamari and chorizo, the Cesar salad and a tower. We enjoyed everything. My wife and I went to this place on a Monday - perhaps our first mistake. It was pretty empty for lunch. We both ordered the 'menu' with oysters and I got the moules frites as my main and my wife ordered a Cesar salad. The oysters were good, as was the wine (Sancerre) but the bread was stale. When the mains arrived it turned to real disappointment. My moules were a bit off, and the broth was too salty to eat, certainly too salty to taste anything else. The frites were soggy and borderline cold. My wife's salad has brown-edged lettuce and her chicken in the salad was dry and salty too. We ate less than half our meals and the waiter asked if everything was good. We told him thee truth, and when he came back with the bill he'd comped the wine, so that was a plus. Still, it was a pretty dismal lunch for a place that seems to have aspirations to be high end. (If one assumes price correlates with quality.) Came here for lunch before heading to Norte Dame Cathedral which is around the corner. This is one of the nicer restaurants in the area. They have a really nice display of fresh seafood out in front before you enter. The design and atmosphere of the inside was very tasteful. I have to say the waiter that we got was hilarious, super friendly he spoke French but his English was excellent we had good conversation with him. He's pretty entertaining! The food, wine, and service was superb. We had their Rose wine and did the Prix Fixe lunch menu. We started with the chef's special cold soup with mussels in a coconut cream it was delicious. We also had the fresh Oysters on a half shell. Our main dish was the seafood risotto which I really liked but wish it came in a bigger portion. We ended our meal with dessert and cafe. We came across this place and had to have lunch there. There is a huge area outside where they display the shell fish. It will make you want to go in. They have these amazing platters. We decided to do the Parisian lunch. It is a starter an entree, desert and coffee. Overall good meal. I think we each had one course that wasn't our favorite but that was our taste and not the food. The service was wonderful. Servers all spoke English and were friendly. If back in the area we would go here again. Next time I am ordering one of those platters. Bathrooms clean. read more

We always go there when In Paris as it ´s conveniently located near out appartement I find the service to be very professional , I usually concentrates on oysters , since they have the bassin D' arcachon sélection , with a bottle of fresh Sancerre , I am a happy Campeur! The ambience of the place was nice and inviting which is why it gets 2 stars. That's where all the pros ended. Service is mediocre at best and the food wasn't great. The server took forever to bring us the check and then said he would bring the machine to run our card. After seeing him go around for another 10 mins he told us he is getting the machine again which is fine I guess. The worst part of it all was when he finally got the machine he asked how much we wanted to run the card for? Uhhh maybe the amount of the bill? I told him 110 euros. He asked if I wanted to leave a tip? I asked him isn't it included? He told me no and again asked how much I wanted to tip. I know that it is a law that 15% is already added for service in all of France and if I wanted to leave a tip for good service I would. Not have him haggle me for it. I finally told him to add 10% which is pretty generous in Europe for great service (I googled it). He smirked as if it wasn't enough. I read another review about the whole tip haggling thing but still decided to give it a try. I don't mind tipping at all. I work in the service industry and believe in tipping for service. It is a whole different thing when you got to lie and haggle people for it. I will never return and advise others to avoid! read more

If you're not open for service then don't be open. The waiter/oyster shucker/host didn't know his head from his ass the whole time we were there. Didn't get anything we ordered except for oysters and do you just get cold seafood if sitting outside? Cause that's all we were offered. Oysters were ok but I don't get the menu? I don't need 28 oysters for 65 euro and nothing else. We ordered glasses of wine and the dude brought us out a bottle. Pours it from a 1/2 full bottle. We get the check and it's 96 euro for 2 glasses of wine and 12 oysters. The wine he poured and failed to tell us was 22 euro a glass!!! Where in Paris do you get a 22 euro glass of wine??? Here. My worst dining experience in Paris after a year of living here and becoming used to the Parisian level of "service". I will admit, it was my mistake to have neglected making a reservation; we were supposed to go elsewhere but we were too late and decided to stick close by. I had always walked by this restaurant on my way home, and on this night there appeared to be many open tables on the covered terrasse. We were immediately greeted and told that it would be just two minutes by a server passing by the door. The manager came over five minutes later to say it would actually be fifteen. We patiently waited, and were seated according to being first in line in front of others that had come in behind us without a reservation. For some reason, their menus are on iPads, which I suppose is handy if you want to select different language options. My friend and I planned on splitting the first seafood platter, and the third in our company was going to get the avocado crab salad because she had to leave soon after. The manager or hostess (couldn't figure out her position because she was playing the social butterfly at the ostensibly "big spender" tables, but wasn't serving) came to take our order, and actually BERATED us for not ordering enough. She pulled faces and made affronted noises before saying that it was not okay for us to take the table when there were people waiting, if we weren't going to order more. I tried to explain that although our friend was leaving soon, she was still eating and drinking, and that was why we asked for a table for three. She continued to make audible huffing noises and complain. I was so embarrassed to have taken my friends here for this horrific experience of bad service that I just said fine and ordered the next biggest platter, even though it didn't have the seafood choices we wanted. It made no sense to me that a platter of just oysters was more expensive and "for two", while the original platter we wanted to order with a variety was less expensive and for one person. It is absolutely our prerogative to order whatever we would like to eat, as we are the diners, not them. It is perfectly fine to charge more to share food, as I understand that it is an inconvenience to bring out more plates or split the food, but whenever that is the case, it is stated on the menu, and I accept it. It is UNACCEPTABLE to verbally abuse customers. Apparently, once they figured they wouldn't make a ton of money off of us, we weren't worth their time anymore. Our water was never refilled, and no one came to check on us after the food was unceremoniously plopped in front of us - truly, without explanation of the different types of oysters, as I would have liked. We needed more bread and there were marks on my friend's wine glass, but we could barely make eye contact with anyone to make these simple requests. When we tried to pay the bill, the server ignored us and stood chatting with the table beside us, coming back and forth to them and passing by us multiple times for nearly thirty minutes. As we left, my friend lamented how bad service can ruin a meal, no matter how good the food is. This place is phenomenal. Decided to come as our last meal in Paris and we were not disappointed. Great service, delicious food and excellent company. Ending up spending over 100 euros total but we had a appetizer, meal and dessert and wine. The sea bass is cooked perfectly and the dessert is soooo fresh and the final touches are done at your table. This is a must stop if you are visiting Paris and you love seafood! read more

We had the whole grilled turbot, squid with Chateau d'Estoublon Huile D'Olive which included 2 sides - white rice and sauteed spinach. The Echire butter a & crusty bread rolls with black sea salt rocked my culinary world. Attractive glass perfume type bottles are filled with EVOO to be sprayed on your bread or fish...great idea! If you are a foodie and plan on visiting Paris and don't want surprises ruined, don't read this. I am writing a description of our meal at lebar a huitres (www.lebarahuitres.fr) So Kim and I are walking back to our hotel in Paris when we pass a guy on a street corner selling beautifully displayed fresh seafood. Standing in front of the display was a fishmonger cheerfully shucking oysters. Behind the array of crustaceans was a large, high wall with a thin sheet of water shimmering down in elegant sheets of ever glistening light, like an aqueous animated backdrop. It looked beautiful and dramatic and made the fresh seafood look spectacularly appealing. This outdoor shop was attached to a restaurant. When it came time for dinner, Kim decided that we should walk back and investigate the restaurant further. So we did. Our elegant hostess seated us at a table for two near a window. A few tables away sat an enormous lobster and langoustine tank along the wall around eye level. It was filled with dozens of huge creatures in several hundred gallons of fresh seawater. We were promptly given ipads containing the menu. You could navigate it in many languages and, along with the food options, it had photos, sometimes animated images, of the food. It was fun playing around with it. They immediately brought us each an amuse bouche of a flavorful curried muscle soup. I wasn't very hungry so I ordered an assortment of fresh French region oysters. Kim ordered a seafood assortment for one. They then brought us bread and a plate with butter, pâté and some sort of conically shaped pimento orange spread. I tried it and it had some heat like a spicy pepper. Tbey also brought a tray that they placed on a pedestal in the center of the table. It contained a couple of tiny mason jars, which I presume contained different rock salts with spoons. There was also a spray bottle that looked like perfume but contained olive oil. The spray part even had a little metal cap just like a perfume bottle. The waiter then brought us each a small metal bowl containing a large white pill. He removed the tray and replaced it with an angled pipe with two strata of trays on top of it. He then put my platter of oysters on the bottom tray and Kim's mélange on top. We received small containers of condiments...home made mayonnaise and vinegar with onion. There were tools that resembled metal toothpicks with small plastic holders along with the condiments. And Porsche designed the metal tools used to open shellfish for the restaurant. I should also mention that each plate of food had a "tee-pee" of scallop shells containing dry ice in the center, obscuring our food with billows of smoke. The seafood was delicious and fresh. Kim had a few things I had never before eaten including cockles in shells (perfect for the metal toothpicks) and tiny shrimps...perhaps large krill? There was a whole crab, a variety of shellfish, giant crab claws, and prawns. At one point, Kim told me I had to go see the men's room. The door to each rest rooms had a screen that would create images of a man on one and a woman on the other. The image would disappear and then reappear part by part. When I entered the men's room, the first thing I notices was that the black commode was square shaped--both the commode and the seat. There were 5 metal toilet paper holders hung vertically on the wall. Three of the rolls of TP were the traditional white color. The others were black. Above the toilet, at eye level, was a screen that gave me a slide show of beautifully photographed menu items, particularly desserts. At the end of the meal, the waiter poured water into the metal bowls and the white pill opened into a really large fabric towel. I'm so glad I didn't eat the pill in the finger bowl. Seated to our left was a young attractive couple. Before we departed, their food was delivered. His dish came covered with a clear glass cloche. When the waiter removed the glass, a thin billow of smoke emerged, filling the air with a wonderful smoky aroma. I found this restaurant to be fun and playful and full of surprises. read more

Someone else named this place as a tourist trap and we fell for it hook, line, and sinker. We were attracted to the shellfish on ice at the storefront. Looking for a light lunch, I had lobster bisque which tasted funky, too salty and not the silky treat I expected. My husband had a shrimp salad that was stingy on the shrimp and not well dressed. Service was aloof and the worst we experienced in Paris. Everyplace else we visited provided warm and responsive service, contrary to the stereotype. At least the bordeaux we had was a hit. We saw this place from our bus and backtracked as it looked interesting. The seafood platter, although expensive, was delicious. The service was poor. They brought our soup bowls but not the soup for 15 minutes. We had to ask for one of the meals 3 times before it came. We ordered another bottle of water and it never showed up. Was offered the cheapest bread available while other breads were available for other tables. 25 mins after ordering I was told the oysters I had originally ordered were not available and was told to order oysters that were $5 or more $ expensive. At 40 mins I had yet to be served water. I felt that because I was not ordering an expensive platter my service was thrown to garbage. My family and I decided to leave and pay for the $20 scallops my wife had ordered. We explained to the waitress about the lack of service and she put it on the chefs not advising her of the lack of oysters and when we told her about the lack of water she "didn't understand" what we were saying. We waited for 2 hours after placing our order and when it came it was not worth the wait. I honestly didn't even wanna stay to even taste the food but my friends wanted to stay. I've been here twice, once while I was studying abroad in Paris, and second time when I came here with my family. This place gives you a great platter of fresh seafood for a great price. We ordered a platter that was I believe about $180 for 4 people and it had us more than stuffed. It included lobsters, king crabs, clams, delicious oysters, shrimps etc. When the platter came we were all overwhelmed by the size and presentation. There are a lot of cheaper/more expensive platters as well, depending on your preference and party size. All are definitely worth it though. When I came here with just my mother, we ordered the $99 one which was more than enough for us. I recommend the mussels too for appetizer. The service can be a little lacking, but the food is well worth it! If you're looking for fresh oysters in Paris, this is the place to go One objection I did have was their use of iPads for menus. When I first came here, they had regular, paper menus but on our most recent visit, they gave us iPads. I own an iPad myself and am pretty good with technology, but it takes a while to adjust to this restaurant's menu interface and it's difficult to point out which dish you'd like, especially when you're discussing with your companion over the choice It's difficult because we're both given iPads, but as you're flipping through the pages, you can't tell which page the other is on etc etc. oh well, I guess this is what it'd be like in the future at most restaurants, but even as a young adult, I oh so prefer the traditional paper menu. This is one of a small chain with four locations in Paris. The service is friendly though not terribly efficient and the food good though not great. This location, in a heavily touristy and expensive part of the city, is not unreasonably priced. Nonetheless, I invariably dine here once or twice during my annual trip to Paris probably more because its convenient to my apartment than anything else. read more
