Not only were these the largest and meatiest oysters I have ever had, they had one of the BEST smoked salmon I've ever eaten. They were so nice and helpful in choosing the best sampling of oysters from different French regions. We could really taste the differences We over ordered thinking that the "small" oysters would be tiny... none of them were small haha They don't serve mignonette or hot sauce ... just a bit of lemon and they don't recommend using it (we did on a few of them) So good and so fresh tho you can enjoy them plain Outstanding This place is TINY TINY TINY (maybe 4 or 5 tables) so I do not recommend it for groups more than 4 unless you want to take up the whole place (which would probably be a fun experience in itself) We lucked out on walking in but unless you make a reservation You'd probably have to wait a bit to enjoy this great establishment Highly recommend read more

The smoked salmon and shrimp were absolutly outstanding and I have never had something similar. insane quality and the owner is very passionate about what he does. If I could give this place 500 stars, I would. The absolute best oyster bar I have ever been to and most likely will ever be at. Paris is the most magical place and when you grew up loving the book, "A Moveable Feast" by Ernest Hemmingway, it will become more magical when you walk into the coolest little oyster bar. We went to Opium la Cabane during our stay in Paris last summer. It is a very small and simplistic place (around 5 tables) that had the best oysters I have tried. Some of them were almost the size of my hand!! They were extremely fresh, and the gentleman serving us taught us how to properly eat them. We also tried the sea-snails which were fabulous. She went on to talk about what their specialties were and what not to miss. Calling all oyster lovers!! Please come here and you will be blown away. The menu is very small and only in french but the nice guy helped going through each item! They only have wine, oysters, and some cold seafood. I got the trio taster that came with shrimp, sea snails, and smoked salmon. All three were fantastic. When the oysters came, they looked so fresh!! The server was very knowledgeable and told us how to eat oysters. This is the first time I have ever eaten oysters with out lemon or anything on it! On a recent trip to Paris, my lovely wife and I planned to visit Notre Dame cathedral and vowed to climb the 387 steps to the top of the South Tower, regardless of the sometimes horrendous wait times outside. As luck would have it, we arrived on a beautiful October morning with a wait time of under 45 minutes. Bon chance! Our reward for that wonderful experience came with another planned destination, Opium La Cabane. Since I absolutely love oysters, it is a month with an "R" and those oysters come from Normandy, it is a relatively short walk from Notre Dame to the Saint Germain-des-Pres district on the Rive Gauche. After winding our way through some gorgeous Parisian streets, we found Opium and were promptly seated in the front window seat by the warm and friendly chef, who thankfully spoke English but who also was happy to engage in some French conversation with two Americans in Paris. We ordered two glasses of champagne as we looked over the menu. On the chef's recommendation, I asked him to choose four each of today's oysters, being particularly interested in the lovely pousses en claires (the speciality). My wife, not being an oyster eater, opted for the smoked salmon plate. These were, hands down, the best oysters I've ever seen or eaten, and I grew up on the East coast eating them every chance I could get. The chef also showed me that the adductor (where the oyster is attached to the shell) acan be carefully removed and tastes like a sweet scallop, something I'd never done but will from now on. These combined East Coast brininess with West Coast melon-like flavor with a finish of sweet butter. Oyster nirvana! The smoked salmon was delicious as well, smooth and buttery, and served with pink peppercorns, cherry tomatoes and multi-grain bread. Both of our plates were cleaned. The owner happened in as we were finishing and offered me a beautiful No. 2 pousse en claire which looked to me to be about 1/3 of a cup in size, but I had to decline as it would have put me in an oyster coma. A wonderful experience all around, and one we'll definitely repeat should we find ourselves in Paris again. Merci, Opium! read more

French oysters are the best and this is a "must visit" place in Paris for oysters. The atmostphere is quaint and modern. A nice little escape from the bustling rue dauphine. Pascal is very friendly, informative and passionate about food and wine. I am forever grateful of this place for giving me the experience of the Pousse en Claire oyster. It is in my opinion, the best oyster I've tried (better than Belon). Pascal is one of the only people to have them available, as they are rare and difficult to cultivate.
