This has been my favourite restaurant since arriving in Quebec. The service is superb - upon arriving, we were informed that it would be a 30 minute wait (since it was a Saturday night) but the waitress managed to fit us in within 10 minutes. We got the soup of the day, a French's onion soup (which is a secret off the menu item), and the Quebec cheese platter to start. Everything was delicious, especially the French onion soup which is better than some of the ones we've had in Paris! Most crepe places drench their crepes in a hollandaise sauce which wipes out the flavours of the ingredients themselves; however, we were pleasantly surprised with the dishes here. All the crepes were made with an intricate balance of flavours and texture unique to the dish itself. My daughter (whose lactose intolerant and vegetarian) loved her dish which was the la cannoise. She said the dish had a great balance of textures )the soft poached egg with a crispy organic buckwheat flour crepe) and flavours the sharp bite of olives with the rich tomato pesto sauce. I ordered La Belle Illoise, the crispy buckwheat and it's cheese filling created pleasant texture, the sauce Belen's well with mushroom, shrimp and scallops, overall it satisfied my taste buds very well. My wife ordered La Lettuce, the crunchy baguette was topped with prosciutto and cheddar cheese (a kind of really fancy cheddar cheese, taste so creamy and texture was so soft!) that was so tasty! To end, my family shared the la mousse chocolate crepe which was a delectable combination of chocolate with shredded ginger and caramel. Absolute delicious! The service, creativity and execution of the dishes was phenomenal and why this restaurant has earned a five star rating in my books! I returned from Quebec City two weeks ago and am *still* thinking fondly of our meals at Le Billig. Yes, I said meals, not meal. Why? Because we had such a wonderful experience during our first dinner there that we decided to finish our vacation right back at the spot that was the culinary highlight of our week. Le Billig is an easy walk from the hotels of Upper Town in Old Quebec, located on one of the main retail thoroughfares. It is a tiny, neighborhood creperie with a staff of three. Eric, the waiter, is - in a word - charming. Friendly, welcoming, and so helpful in making suggestions of his faves on the menu. All of the savory crepes are buckwheat, a nod to Le Billig's Breton roots. Over the course of two meals, here's what we sampled: - Bearn: Duck confit, fresh spinach, swiss and goat cheese, served with an amazing onion marmalade. A standout. Beautifully tender duck and cheeses that could have felt too heavy had they not been offset by the leafy greens and onion jam. - Cancalaise: Four, large scallops, sauteed leeks, swiss cheese, and a lemon butter sauce. Sweet lord, I could eat this every single day. So fresh, so delicious. The stuff of dreams. - Belle-Illoise: Heaps of delicious shrimp (including a skewer of 8 shrimp on top!), scallops, mushrooms, swiss cheese and Aurore sauce, which was a lighter-than-you-might-expect tomato cream sauce. Holy shellfish! So tasty. - Savoyarde: Potatoes, onions, bacon, swiss cheese, and a healthy bit of melted Migneron cheese on top for good measure. This would be perfect on a wintry evening. It tastes a bit like a - wait for it - loaded baked potato. - Tatin: Caramelized apples, homemade salidou (salted butter caramel), chantilly cream, and vanilla ice cream. Ridiculousness on a plate. This is in my top three desserts of all time. - Banana: Sliced banana, dark chocolate sauce and chantilly cream. Simple, straightforward, and delectably dark chocolate flavors to temper the sweetness. We paired our dinners with local beers and ciders that Eric recommended. Trust him - he did not steer us wrong once. I will say that because Le Billig is teensy, has a similarly teensy staff, and prepares everything to order, you should anticipate a leisurely meal. The chef, expediter/dishwasher, and waiter work their tails off so you don't even mind when you wait awhile for your food. I'm almost reluctant to write this review because I don't want to make it harder for me to get reservations next time we come to town. Let's just say I had 3 days in Quebec City, and I tried to go to Le Billig three times. You should know that the creperie and bar aren't huge--plus the service can be extremely slow with just 2 servers, 1 chef, and 1 sous chef (as far as I could tell) for the entire place--so the wait can be quite long. Especially for Sunday brunch, which we had to walk away from. Make sure you check out the menu while you're waiting because if you ask for more time when you sit down, they may forget about you for a while! My boyfriend and I both have sweet tooths, so we decided to get some dessert crepes each time -- and the prices are relatively reasonable. Unfortunately they don't have the largest variety of sweet crepe options, so I had to stick to the basics, as I was allergic to quite a few of the fruits. I have to say that their butter-sugar crepes are the BEST sugar crepes I've ever tasted! All gone in approximately two minutes. The crepes are just the right texture, and man, do they pour the sugar on there after. The chocolate crepe is also excellent, though a little too heavy on the chocolate for my taste. My boyfriend had La Tatin, which he loved but may have gotten diabetes from. We had our fun, but I'm not sure I would recommend anyone else to consume more than one dessert crepe per meal... sugar overload! read more

We entered at the perfect time and were lucky to get a table, because it quickly filled up after we sat down (it is a pretty small place). Apps: - French onion soup (5/5) - A great soup. A heaping amount of wonderful cheesy goodness and flavorful soup. Was the perfect thing for a chilly day. If you like cheese, you will not be disappointed - Fois Gras - (3/5) - The fois gras itself was good, however the things that made this dish POP were the small sides that came with it, especially the onion jam which was a nice mix of sweet and savory Service (3/5): - Standard service. The staff was very friendly. We were not in a hurry, but it did seem like it took a long time for the entrees to come out. Entrees: - La Pontivienne (mushroom crepe), La Savoyarde, La Belle Illoise (scallops and shrimp with a pink tomato sauce) (2/5) - My group and I were all pretty disappointed in all of the crepes that we got. The flavors of each filling in the crepe just didn't really "pop" or stand out. The general consensus of the group was that they were all fairly bland. On top of that, the actual crepe themselves did not taste good. I think they were a "buckwheat" crepe and they just left a weird, unpleasant taste in my mouth. Overall: 2/5 - This is a restaurant that specializes in crepes and the crepes were not something I enjoyed, so that is where the majority of the review score comes from. The menu is all in french, I did need to ask the waiter to explain and recommend things for me, otherwise I'd have no idea about the menu. It's a really cool space, very open and staff are pretty friendly. I was torn on what to get since the menu looked amazing, so I did what any sane person would do. I looked for something with bacon and ordered it! I ended up getting a crepe with eggs, bacon and cheese. It was pretty much a breakfast crepe. Its french crepes were really delicious, it provides not only sweet and savory types but also combines crepe with benedict eggs which is very popular. My favorite was the duck confit crepe, the onion cooked with red wine was divine!! Sweetness of the onion make the duck meat and buckwheat crepe tasted so delicious. I ended up staying most of the afternoon reading my book. I had the Fig Salad for lunch which was delicious (though I felt it needed a tastier dressing); and then I ordered the apple crepe for a dessert. Everyone was so friendly! I had originally ordered an iced tea but when they didn't have any left I switched it up to a rose cider. I made a decision on the fly just grabbing at the first thing I saw. The waitress realized they actually had two rose ciders and brought both of them for me to sample. I appreciated the gesture, knowing I had made my original decision in haste. We walked 1/2 hour to get to this place and it was worth it! We ordered the wheat pear and chocolate sweet crepe and their homemade ice tea with maple syrup. The crepe was delicious! The ice cream was coated in chocolate and the pear was candied, but so soft. The crepe itself was crispy and thin. It's also the only place I've ever seen that only serves wheat crepes. Soo good! I couldn't disagree more, even though I'm a huge fan of sweet crepes with fruits for breakfast. Savoury crepes have their own place in my heart and are a perfectly valid alternative to sweet crepes. However, Le Billig's crepes are dry, too thin and not tasty enough for my taste. Their salad was alright. Nothing to write home about. Coffee was good too. Service was alright, but then this place wasn't as busy when we were there. Bottom line, if you're craving a traditional French crepe, sweet or savoury, this is not the place. My friend and I had dinner here a few weeks back. We were enamored by the charm and low fi chill out music pumping through the restaurant; the ambiance is fluid... my friend ordered the salmon. When it arrived she took one bite and realized there was alcohol in it and she's allergic. She asked the server if it was cooked with alcohol? The servers reaction was as if we put on gloves to fight, she was very defensive. So much so that when she turned it to talk to the chef about this she then said if they needed to redo the dish my friend would have to pay for two meals. I think it goes without saying that we were both shocked. I had La Cannoise and although it sounded great on paper it was dry, flat and uneventful. What blew my mind was how costly it is to eat there, I paid 27.00 for that plate and 2 glasses of soda water, no alcohol. La Billig is a lovely looking restaurant but with the server's inability to provide service effectively, I would avoid it especially if you do not speak French, you're not treated very well. read more

Waiters were extremely friendly, they helped with suggestions that turned out to be the perfect choice. The place is clean and is adapted for covid. Decor is nothing special but is cute. There's an area that is also only bar with sports on tv and the area for dinner . Is loud but if you are with friends eventually you forget about it.
