This year we tried to call on Le Bistro once more for Thanksgiving, but something has gone horribly wrong in their operation. Maybe it's the absence of now former co-owner Dakota Maddox, but nothing seemed to work. When my wife and I arrived at noon to pickup our order, we were met by a medium sized group of fellow befuddled customers. Some had been there since 10am, when they were supposed to be picking up their holiday order. The story as it was told to me was the first set of customers arrived to a locked and dark restaurant. Upon being let in by a former employee, they found that no orders had been prepared, proteins weren't cooked, pies were not baked, and there was no master list of orders to be found. Despite all of this, even two hours in there was only one person trying to manage the operation and he didn't even work there. The owner had been "on his way" for the better part of an hour. After spending 1.5 hours trying to get a handle on the situation, our 'fella took everyone's phone number and said he would call when the orders were ready. So my wife and I left, presuming we'd be called back in an hour or so. When 3:30 came and went I tried to call their main number. It rang, went to voice mail, and then a recording told me the mailbox was full and promptly disconnected. At 5:30 my phone rang. It was the former employee - now identified as Luka - calling to say my order would be ready in 20 minutes. My wife and I headed back to town. When we arrived at 6:10 our order still wasn't ready. The owner, Chris, finally decided to make an appearance. He asked if we wanted a drink while we waited, then disappeared to the back again. At 6:30 (6.5 hours after the pickup time) we were finally given our food, minus several items that they either ran out of or didn't have at all. Luka said the owner would refund the items that were unavailable - a saintly gesture. Chris never reappeared, and didn't bother to offer an apology or an explanation. When we finally got the food home we found that the rolls were store bought King's Hawaiian with a small amount of garlic butter haphazardly smeared on top, bone dry turkey, lumpy mashed potatoes, and beef tenderloin that - even after cooked - smelled spoiled. I would say that these items were so sad they must have been seasoned by the tears of Chris' employees, but that would be wrong as tears contain some amount of salt. Standing in the chilly restaurant surrounded by burnt out lights, mostly empty liquor bottles, and a bathroom whose soap dispenser was nearly falling off the wall you get the sense that you're standing in a once great restaurant desperately passed its prime. It was the culinary equivalent of the most recent Mike Tyson bout. read more

Mixed review here... Some of the items at Le Bistro were exceptional and some a swing and a miss in our opinion. The good: Fried Green Tomatoes (my husband is a snob when it comes to these and he said they are the best he's ever had) French onion soup (the best I've had in a while! Flavorful and somewhat spicy with the amount of black pepper and other seasonings) Malbec wine (best I've had in a while at a restaurant) Service (our server and trainee were very sweet) Cajun Pasta (my stepson absolutely loved this dish) Crème brûlée (very good!) Parmesan risotto (I really enjoyed the flavor profile albeit somewhat muted and ate the entire thing!) The not so great: Shrimp cocktail (flavor was good but the shrimp was not chilled and was more like a room temperature) Filet mignon (could not put my finger on it what was exactly wrong with it but the taste was off... almost like it was prepared in a non-traditional way and it lacked seasoning) Crab cake (the crab cake itself was good but it did not come with a lemon or some sort of aioli which was surprising) The dessert that was supposed to be a brownie was more like a molten lava cake than a brownie. Finally, we used our debit card to pay for our meal which was pretty pricey and the restaurant charged us a 3% processing fee on top of taxes and tip. If only I could give it ZERO stars. Our last 2 visits were BEYOND disappointing. We've eaten there three times with amazing service and the most delicious food. Decided to stop in a few months ago, sat in there for almost an hour waiting for food that arrived cold and uneatable. Several patrons received discounts, apologies and gift coupons for a discount on our next visit. Fast forward 4 months and we try again. Employees seemed to enjoy each others company in the kitchen, because that's where they all stayed. We ordered iced tea that was SUPER strong and tasted like it was mixed with a little coffee. My husband ordered a drink that sat on the counter...not sure why it never made it to the bar where we were sitting. So, after waiting 20 minutes and watching the staff hang out in the kitchen, we left. Needless to say, we will not be going back to this establishment. There is something to say about having a dress code for employees and showing them how to serve patrons with a sense of urgency and appear to work. I don't want to see bellies and pajama pants. Let's start with the positive: It was indoors and out of the cold. The decor is a hodgepodge of mismatched artwork and gaudy gold leaf frames. Overhead lighting consists of patio lights that were purchased at Sam's Club or Amazon (the real kicker here was seeing the scotch tape that held some of the lights together). We were "greeted" by one of the most indifferent hostesses I've ever come across and sat at a table where check presenters were used to balance it. This should have been enough red flags to send me and my family running out into the streets in search of pizza or even dumpster food procured from a hobo, alas we stayed. 90 minutes later, our appetizers arrived. The French Onion Soup was surprisingly pleasant, as was the tomato bisque. Then it took a quick and utterly disappointing trip southward. With three tables in the restaurant on a Friday night, I expected service to be on point. It was...not. My fiancé and mother ordered the heritage chicken, which they said was good. My father ordered the Butchers Choice (tortellini topped with bruschetta) and I ordered the Farroe Island Salmon. The tortellini was acceptable, but the salmon was putrid. On the menu it's described as being served with a bourbon glaze with puréed Yukon gold potatoes and asparagus. The plate arrived cold, with cold peaches, and couscous that was drier than any MRE I've consumed during my military enlistment. Overall, not a wonderful experience. Tough to recommend a place when so many service points and basic fundamentals were missed. Still spent almost $200 on a meal that my 12 year old stepson could have created better. read more

This place is in Marshall country and is in a lovely part of downtown. I found this place on Yelp as we were driving back from Chicago. Has to be one of the best stops we ever made. The salad, grits and hash thing are to die for. I bet every single thing on their menu rocks. We split 3 meals between us because we just couldn't decide. Walls covered in cool art sitting on a street that feels like a movie. I would go out of my way to eat here again if I was ever anywhere nearby. Waitstaff was super accommodating and let us use their Yelp coupon for our meal. They explained all of food items and were gracious hosts. If you want to eat at a cool spot, run by cool people with cool food - this is it. Highly recommend! read more

Sitting here nearly 3 hours in, waiting for crème brûlée for two of our party who , for some reason, thought it would be delivered faster than the other courses were. The food here is good enough, but the service tonight was atrocious. We were told after the wait that certain dishes take longer to prepare. The only peace offering was two plates of bread. My wife and I have been coming here for years. Generally, it has been a fairly reliable spot in Huntington for us. Tonight, we got a phone call prior to our reservation time that no alcohol would be served this evening due to some issues they were having. Not a big problem, but may have been our first red flag for the evening. We were seated promptly but never saw a waitress in the nearly empty dining area until the rest of our party showed after 10 minutes. Drinks were ordered and arrived after about another 10 minutes...again in the nearly empty dining area. After about 30 minutes of sitting there, we finally put a food order in that took an hour to make it to the table. Clearly there must have been some issues in the back, because the staff generally stayed there and out of earshot of the patrons. My son ordered a Shirley Temple and the waitress asked if he would like a refill. He of course said that he would, and she brought that back. I didn't realize she would charge us for it even though she never brought out water and we waited so long. Food finally came and the burgers ordered medium were well done and so were the scallops, shrimp, asparagus, and sausage. There normal plump shrimp and scallops were straight from the freezer section of the Kroger on 5th avenue. They were bad. So after being there 2 hours, the waitress comped the seafood portion and said she spoke to the manager who sent us a gift card. We all wondered why the manager didn't make an appearance herself. I have yet to have a bad meal at Le Bistro! The food is excellent!! I did have an awkward experience when I ordered a mock-tail with the intent of not drinking alcohol, but I was given and charged for multiple alcoholic drinks by the request of someone in my dinner party. The waiter disregarded my request for my friends request that I drink, in which I ended up paying for. I didn't realize the mix up until my bill came. I paid for it, but was slightly annoyed. We had reservations at Le Bistro in Huntington this evening and the food was incredible and cooked to PERFECTION. For an appetizer we had the chef's bruschetta which is unlike any bruschetta we've ever tasted (pic of the ingredients on the menu below)...absolutely amazing! My husband also had the soup which was the chef'a rendition of Japanese miso soup with mushrooms and onions in it. I had the 8 oz. filet mignon with roasted potatoes & carrots (carrots subbed for the asparagus). My husband had the Cajun shrimp pasta. He said the shrimp was very tender and delicious and the Cajun seasoning wasn't overwhelmingly spicy. Our waiter, Coleton did a fabulous job as well. Side note: We had drinks at The Cellar Door while we were waiting on our reservation time and we loved the vibe of the decor and ambiance there as well! Reserved this place to celebrate my son's Marshall graduation as I have had a drink and app there 2 years prior and was impressed. What happened? New owner?? I asked for martini and server said they are out of Vodka! What?! We ordered our food and wine. Had to remind him to get the wine. Asked for bread and he said they were all out. The $56 steak was disgusting. The waiter came to fill out water glasses and his pitcher was literally cloudy white. It looked like dishwater so we declined even on the water! This must be the worst restaurant in Huntington. If only I could give it zero stars. It is outright false advertising to call this place "fine dining." I met up with two friends on a Friday night for dinner. Arriving early, I ordered a dirty vodka martini -- asking for it to be extra dry, extra cold, and only slightly dirty... even saying, "if it is green, it's too dirty." 30 minutes later I received a champagne glass full of lukewarm vermouth and olive olive juice that was dark yellowish green in color and utterly undrinkable. Sending the drink back, I ordered the Cotes du Rhone from the menu, only for the server to return 15 minutes later to tell me they were out of it, so I ordered the $60.00 bottle from the wine menu and another fifteen minutes later the server returns to tell me they didn't have that either. So I settled for the $38.00 Chianti... okay, fine. For an appetizer I ordered friend green tomatoes. When they finally arrived at the table, about 30 minutes later, they were cold. There was absolutely no reason for the service to be so slow. While it was a Friday night, the place was empty. There were only two other tables, totaling four people other than our table of three. My friend ordered Crab Cakes and the server kept coming to the table to say they were "not ready." We ordered soup and entree -- I ordered the French Onion Soup and the Filet, and my friends moved their Crab Cakes to have as an entree rather than an appetizer. 20 minutes later, the server comes to the table to say the Crab Cakes still were "not ready," so at this point I asked for further clarification... what the server was meaning to say was they didn't have Crab Cakes. Seriously?!!! Fine, so everyone changed their order to match mine, the Filet. We all requested it to be on the rarer side of medium rare, even jokingly saying that if it were too rare, it could be put back on the heat, but if it were overdone, we couldn't fix it, and "a little bit of blood never hurt anyone." It took forever for the French Onion Soup to arrive to the table and it had so much pepper in it that it was spicy hot. When the Filet's arrived at the table they looked more like cheap sirloins and cutting into them they were dry, and medium to medium well done. At this point, we just wanted to leave to go to another restaurant to eat. We were all hungry. Calling the server over we explained the problem and even showed her the meat and asked her if she thought they were made as we had requested. The server responded that they definitely looked medium rather than medium rare, "but the chef had stuck a thermometer in them and they read medium rare." In addition to them clearly NOT being medium rare, biting into the dry steak left an odd taste in my mouth that literally lasted the rest of the evening. I still can't place the foul sweetish taste, but I can say I have NEVER tasted a Filet like this before. I explained to the server that we would pay for the wine, the soup, the appetizer, but we would not be paying for the entree, to which the server responded that she would "check because they were expensive cuts of meat." She then disappeared for 20 minutes. We were quite hungry and just wanted to leave to get a good meal. Finally, we began to get up and put on our coats and catching the servers eye I waved for her to come to the table where I asked for our check. She then proceeded to tell us that she "could give us 50% off the entree." Unbelievable! I responded that we had not eaten them, they were not as ordered, and that, "no, we would not be paying for this garbage." I then had to follow her to the cash register near the bar where she rang up two tickets, one that had the steaks on it, and the other with the remaining menu items. The wine was $34 or 38$, the 3 soups around $8.00, the Fried Green Tomatoes were $13, and my friend had ordered a whiskey, so somehow this bill came to $98.00. I left a $100 bill on the bar and again repeated that I would not be paying for the steaks and we left. I even took a picture of the entree's we left on the table, which are noticeably dry and certainly not medium rare. I have never had such an experience at a restaurant. You go in and they seemingly hold you captive to their slow incompetent service, serve you garbage, and then demand you pay them for what you explicitly didn't order! I want to give zero stars to be honest. From beginning to end this restaurant was a disaster. We ordered 3 martinis and fried green tomatoes for an appetizer. One martini arrived and was not made correctly. It was a pink hued color and contained no vodka, only vermouth. It was not chilled. It was not drinkable. The other 2 martinis never arrived at our table and the appetizer took an hour to arrive. The tomatoes had good flavor but they were not hot. The restaurant was almost empty on a Friday night so there was no reason for any delays in our order. We ordered crab cakes and the waitress said she had to check to see if they were prepped. 30 mins later she came back to tell us they didn't have any crab cakes. We ordered 2 different bottles of wine and the waitress returned to tell us they didn't have either of those wines. The bread and butter arrived and then 5 mins later we received french onion soup. The soup was over seasoned with pepper and was too spicy. Since we couldn't get crab cakes we ordered filet mignon with broccolini and potatoes. We all ordered it medium rare. My steak looked more like a piece of round stake and it was medium well, overcooked, not seared or crusted on the outside, no flavor and was not edible. The amount of potatoes and veg on the plate cost about $1.00 and the steak probably cost them $3-$4 at most but they charged $58 for garbage. The service was slow despite only having approximately 10 customers total in the whole restaurant. When we explained that we were not going to eat the food and wanted the check to pay for what we did drink and eat, it took 20 mins for the waitress to return and tell us they would give us 50% off. this is unacceptable. Do not eat here. Go to Waffle House and you will get a better meal. read more

We had eaten here in the past before the Pandemic and had excellent experiences. We like to eat downstairs in the Cellar Door due to the ambiance and order from Le Bistro's menu. The server was attentive, friendly and accommodating and all went well with the exceptional drinks and delicious appetizers. The wait for the main course was excruciating long and when the main courses of fish finally arrived, they tasted like they had been under a heat lamp for over an hour that we waited or the fish had been over cooked with a hard crust and was served cold. We took our out of town family there for the first time and they loved everything except the overcooked main courses of fish that was served cold. The total bill was $450 for five people. We all wished we had gone to our usual and favorite family reunion restaurant, Savannah's Restaurant on Sixth Avenue in Huntington. read more

If so, why did I wait an hour on it? That aside, all of the food looked straight out of a box - not prepared by a chef. The beef tenderloin was tough, the turkey breast was basically sliced lunch meat and the sides (ordered to serve 8-12) would have only served 4-6. Also, the stuffing was obviously stove top stuffing not homemade. The whole dinner looked thrown together at the last hour. Literally. For $500+ it's a hard pass next time. Worst part is we did this same feast 2 years ago and it was hot and delicious. So what happened? Change of ownership or change of chef. Avoid le Bistro. read more

Very nasty staff at this place. For some god unknown reason they had made reservations for 6:30. We showed up on time at 6:30 and very rude staff kept stomping around. Just nasty nasty nasty. They had seven empty tables and wouldn't accommodate anyone. I understand that these people are low income folks but why be nasty. Waited till 7:15. Every time I asked the nasty receptionist got a total nastier reply. Then finally we sat down. 10 minutes for water to arrive. Another twenty minutes for salads to arrive. $25 burger finally arrive. Paul and I tried to have lunch at Le Bistro last week, but due to a power outage, we had to go elsewhere. Since we were driving through Huntington again today, we decided to try it again. The best thing about Le Bistro was the poached pear salad. It was absolutely perfect. Other highlights included the French fries, the decor, comfortable chairs, and general cleanliness. Paul described the crab cake sandwich as "good," but he did not sound enthusiastic about it. Some areas in need of attention include service, the French Dip sandwich, and music. Our server possessed both the speed and the personality of a corpse. I wanted to offer to check her pulse, but I did not want to be rude. If she had bothered to ask about our food, I would have told her about it. Speaking of food, the French Dip sandwich was a drag. The beef was somewhat tough and flavorless, and the jus tasted like salt water. Ugh! Lest I forget, the music did not match the decor. Imagine sitting it a place that is decorated like a traditional French Bistro while listening to Cold Play blasting. Hey, I like Cold Play, but it just did not work. I high high expectations for Le Bistro, and although the poached pear salad was remarkable, it simply did not make up for sourpuss service, the flawed French Dip, and poorly chosen music. read more
