This is the second time my family and I stopped to eat here on our way from VA to KY. Both times (visits were a year apart), the food was great and the staff was friendly. Some of my family members got the vegetable soup the first time, and raved how delicious it was. Needless to say, they were eager to go back and get it again and it did not disappoint! Shonet's is spacious, very clean, and well decorated. Parking wasn't a problem for our oversized truck and 33 foot trailer. The restaurant was well-staffed with friendly and knowledgeable servers who weren't overbearing but seemed to know exactly when a customer had a need. The food was excellent with good home-cooked flavor and large portions. Daily specials, a salad/soup bar, and homemade pies of every kind also put this restaurant over the top! The price points are extremely competitive and allowed us to leave our server a large tip. We highly recommend Shonet's to anyone passing through! It's certainly a hidden gem! read more

Tucked into Perry Square in the heart of Milton, WV Hometown cafe with so much good food for less money. For example -Coffee $1.66; veggie cheese three egg omelette with side about $10. Nice small town restaurant with excellent NOT FAST FOOD food. I get something different every time I go there. Today, I got the 'club' sandwich and it was more than I could eat. The food was great, as usual, and Natalie was such a breath of fresh air, making sure we were well taken care of, the coffee cup stayed full, she was courteous and just happened to be cute, too. She acted like she really cared about serving us, and her tip reflected that. I'd go back for that service alone. Thanks, Natalie, for such a nice experience. If you're in the market for a 'home cooked meal', then give this place a try... and maybe you'll get lucky enough to have Natalie take care of you. Stopped in for lunch. It was our first time here. My husband got the Turkey dinner with mashed potatoes, gravy, and dressing. I ordered the dumplings, green beans, and dressing. The hubs loved his meal. I enjoyed mine, however my dumplings and stuffing was barely warm (the only reason why they didn't get a 5). The rolls were very good! We will definitely go back. read more

Waited over 30 minutes for them to tell us one person's food was out of stock as they brought everyone else's. Why wouldn't you tell someone that much sooner so they could order and not have to wait another 30 minutes after everyone else ate. The food was terrible. No flavor. Potatoes definitely don't taste homemade. The salad bar is tiny and they charged $6.95 for one trip for a kid added to her meal. They didnt bring us the fish but didnt take it off the bill. Shonet's is a great place for good old country cooking!It's decorated very nicely with country signs and pictures. They also sell homemade apple butter at the register. The servers are all friendly and do a great job taking care of their customers. We don't live in WV anymore but we were in town visiting our son so we stopped by for lunch last Saturday. My husband and I chose the Soup and Salad bar. The soups were yummy and definitely tasted homemade the salad bar was good with several fresh veggie options and some premade salads as well as a couple fruit options and cottage cheese. Our son had the open faced turkey sandwich. He said it was delicious! We were all stuffed so we didn't get any pie for dessert but from past experiences I can tell you they are absolutely delicious. When we lived in Milton a few years ago my friends and I would go to Shonet's for a slice of pie and coffee! If you are looking for a good country diner Shonet's is your place. This is an amazing restaurant in the area. One of the best I would say in the state. It's always amazing good food at prices you can afford to eat at. Amazing homemade everything. They have a great salad bar. Very efficient, friendly staff. One of our favorite servers is Marie. She does such a great job keeping our glasses full and puts a big smell on her face. Well. The wait was long. The surrounding conversations were interesting. The service was... impatient at best. The food was astoundingly flavorless. There was a gelatinous yellow gravy (?) on my Turkey plate (highly reviewed on yelp) that had a sort of plasticizing "nothing" effect, coating the hidden turkey, stuffing and potatoes. My children's burgers were also bland. One kid said the patty actually tasted like peanut butter and then started gagging. The cornbread was delicious. read more

Great small town home cooking. Had the soup and salad bar. The salad bar was a basic bar but was all you need. Dressings were simple, French, Ranch and Italian. Soups were very good, white bean and vegetable. The place was super clean and neat. The waitress was very good and kept our drinks filled and making sure we had everything we needed. Shonet's is located in a shopping plaza with plenty of parking. This is a family owned restaurant with homemade food. The pork chop special on Wednesdays is fantastic! They give you plenty of good food, big servings for the money. Just about everyone leaves with leftovers, including us. The salad bar is the weak point, as it has limited offerings. But they have two kettles of hot soup to try. They always have a good sized crowd but not large enough that you can't find a table or booth. This is a great place to take the family out to eat. Oh yeah, they have many homemade pies! But I'm usually too full to have a piece. Maybe next time I'll take one home. read more

Comfort food, pure and simple. The menu has a good selection. I had my favorite turkey and dressing with green beans and broccoli. It came with cornbread and a coarse chopped homemade cranberry relish. I honestly expected pre-sliced turkey but this was the real deal. The beans were well seasoned. The broccoli was steamed. I really wanted a slice of the gorgeous chocolate cream pie in the desert case I spotted. But I couldn't finish my meal. My leftovers were enough for another meal. Beans, cornbread, fried potatoes & apples were a hit with a member of our group. Mashed potatoes, fried dressing & margarine were a bit bland, and the salad bar is very small, but none of us tried it. The coconut cream pie was good. Slowest place to get anything you order server I had wouldn't get refill after said it multiple times I order food and that takes forever to get to table and when it does it's not cooked right so I tell them and they bring it back out even worse than before with just skin no meat hardly on plate just crumbled breading so I said something again and the manager or owner just said I'll take it off I'm not remaking it that's how they do customer service I would refer someone to eat at the dumpster behind the restaurant the food would be the same quality NEVER AGAIN would I take my daughter back in there read more

We decided on Shonet's based on reviews and it wasn't the worst experience but far from what we expected. I'd say the biggest surprise for me was boxed Mac and Cheese and not something homemade. The mashed potatoes were excessively salty, I mean I've never tasted that much salt in mashed potatoes. The meatloaf was very tasty as was the country fried steak and the gravy on top. Some in our party ordered the 4 piece chicken and it was over cooked and almost taste burnt. The service was extremely slow. So maybe we just had an extremely off night here?! read more

I live out of town but my parents love this restaurant so over the years I've been many many times and told my parents about a year or two ago that I would never eat inside the restaurant again because the wait time to get any service or food is so tremendously long. I only support local businesses no matter where I'm at and do not do chain restaurants so even in spite of the poor service and things over the years I still try to give them a chance. About a year ago when I came in town we ordered to pick up and our order was very wrong but we did not discover this until we got back home. Today we ordered three meals and a pie but I checked everything when I went to the car. I ordered roast turkey and they gave me roast Beef which I do not eat with beef gravy on the mashed potatoes and I tried to return it and he said that we just need to keep it and he will put my new order in. When we called the order in at 2:30 we were told it would not be ready until 330. The sides for the other two orders were incorrect as well. To get the orders correct it took another 15 minutes. It is around 100° outside today so it made things even more aggravating. The boy that was helping us (Noah?) was very nice as the staff always is. After several attempts we got 98% of the order correct but we still were not given a couple of items (no roll, sour cream and salsa) and the fish and chips meal which was always very good looked like scraps of fish. They were no wider than two fingers put together. The sweet potato fries tasted like they had been boiled and not finished. Extremely disappointing. So from now on I will not only not eat in the restaurant I will also not order from the restaurant. It's a shame because their food used to be so good. It made the service almost tolerable in years past. read more
