Situated in the old Frederick Hotel, this eatery is a magical throwback to the early 60's with red leather, dark paneling and a chair rail featuring an elephant walk! Our dinner choices were relatively straightforward, but the food was outstanding. We started with a nice side Caesar salad with fresh Romain lettuce, fresh croutons, shaved Parmesan and a perfect amount to dressing. My entree was the Fried Shrimp platter. The shrimp were absolutely fresh, huge and butterflied perfectly. A light but tasty breading with a side of spicy cocktail sauce made it even better. French fries and glazed sliced carrots made for perfect sides. My dining partner opted for fresh grilled salmon, perfectly seasoned and done to perfection. Fresh broccoli and risotto were just the right compliments. Dessert was an in-house prepared chocolate gnash mousse - dense, rich and velvety, and served as the perfect was to finish the meal. Finally, the service was excellent. And we had a chance to chat with owner Mark Cross, who has presided over this establishment for 23 years. Mark was a delight to meet, and takes great care and pride in providing a top notch experience. If your travels bring you to Huntington, do yourself a favor and dine mat this historic gem!!

The homemade mac and cheese was creamy with the perfect crust on top. The salad was a good portion size and tasted like it was freshly chopped and prepared. The asparagus was cooked to perfection and perfectly seasoned. The crème brûlée was balanced and creamy with a delicious hardened caramelized sugar layer. That étouffée with the cheesy grits blew my mind. The rest of the food was good, but that first bite of the étouffée was one of the best mouthfuls I've had in a very, very long time. So much flavor! I certainly didn't expect this in Huntington, WV. I wouldn't have thought there could be a hole-in-the-wall Cajun place in WV, but this is absolutely legit. So much so, that I went back the next day to get a full portion of their shrimp étouffée and try their shrimp po'boy sandwich. Again, it was nothing short of incredible. This place is small, but it deserves a lot of attention. The owner is a man of few words, but his food is absolutely fantastic. A restaurant never hits on everything and it's up to personal tastes, but those po'boys and that étouffée are absolute winners. It's unfortunately often the case that the small restaurants have some of the best food, and that is the case here. I am in Huntington for work often, and I absolutely will visit this place every time I'm there.
