I was planning a weekend in Montreal to celebrate my brother's bachelor party. Naturally, the the…read morequestion of where to eat was posed. I kinda wanted to keep some details of the weekend hidden from my brother, but he did send me a NYT article highlighting Rôtisserie La Lune - so I took the hint and decided to book our first dinner in the city here.
I wanted to make this night extra special, so I decided to inquire about booking a private room. I noticed one of their room fit 12 people which was exactly the number of people in our party - it was meant to be! I submitted an inquiry several months in advance regarding the booking, but was told to circle back as they only open reservations two months in advance. I had planned to do so, but they beat me to it and actually emailed me first - I was pleasantly surprised.
I corresponded with David when it came to the planning - we went over the menu options, as well as any extras and other logistics. The menu was fairly straightforward - all the food was served family style, and I chose a mix of rotisserie chicken and guinea fowl. Additionally, I opted for a cheese course and to purchase alcoholic beverages ad hoc based on who chose to drink. That's it - David explained that there would be an abundance of sides and desserts to complement the poultry and I trusted he would come through (of course, I did browse the menu and had an idea of what to expect).
The restaurant itself is bustling - its a decent size with a very open feel with large windows that makes the space almost contiguous with the outdoors; the open kitchen adds to the feel. The entire space gives off being super trendy. The room we were in was right off the main dining room - it was tastefully decorated with lots of light woods and closed off so we can have some good conversation without the noise from the main dining room.
Our server explained how the evening would go - food would come out in courses and we were able to speed up or slow down based on how we felt. The first two courses were starters consisting of onion rolls, cole slaw, radishes, tomato salad, cured duck, toast de foie, and cucumber dill salad. Everything was delicious; I particularly enjoyed the tomato salad, the cucumber dill salad, and the cole slaw - which is something as I don't usually like mayo-based salads. The toast de foie was also a standout.
Most of the sides remained on the table when the mains were served. We received a generous helping of rotisserie chicken and guinea fowl - plus additional sides of fries with gravy, and green beans. I stayed with the chicken, which was really good. It was juicy, and the sides were really great complements. The additional sides were also great - the fries and gravy were speaking to me, and the beans were a welcome green reprieve.
I decided to have them combine the cheese course and dessert - these were all good as well. The standout for me was their carrot cake - it was dense (in a good way) and layered with cream cheese frosting that was surprisingly light. All the desserts, though, were great - the perfect finisher to the meal.
I gotta bring it back to the service and team to close this out. Even though there was a delay with the table being ready when we arrived, they handled it professionally and after that the evening went without a hitch. Kudos again to David for his responsiveness during the booking process. Overall, we had a great time at Rôtisserie La Lune - the menu was sophisticated yet accessible, plus the staff and aesthetics were on point. This was the perfect start to my brother's bachelor party weekend, and I wouldn't hesitate to return next time I'm in Montreal.
