Le Clan is a beautiful restaurant with a great concept - locally sourced ingredients, boreal style food. Some of the dishes were fantastic but overall uneven, with service also variable. Always friendly and responsive but not fully attentive (wine glasses left empty through much of dinner with the bottle left out of reach). At a high end establishment the experience left more to be desired. It seems a very nice special occasion restaurant and I hope its service improves in the future. read more

We had the most wonderful lunch here! We thought it was going to be only a fixed priced menu, but they actually have a "tapas" menu were each item is $5. We went wild and ordered a lot of different things to share. I would highly recommend going here for lunch. Great service. Fantastic food. We went for lunch with a reservation After being seated it took around 10 mins to just be attended and get menus and water. The service is beyond slow here. They seem pretty decent or small sized with a sizeable staff and a really small menu but service and delivery lacks. Lunch menu has two options - prix fixe for $52 which seems overpriced and lackluster and a tapas (more ne pas) menu with $5 plates. We had vegetarian and pescatarian restrictions and could only order some items - we got their foccacia (which is a tiny bread slice with some tomatoes), vegetable(S) of the day and they said it'll have a bunch of veggies but we got 5 slices of beet, smoked fish vol-au-vent which is ridiculously small and not hot and is listed as a hot plate, a soup of the day that never arrived and upon asking several times the server told us he said soon and could ask the time because he doesn't know?!, an almost thumb sized bite of cake which also took forever to arrive Drinks are fine i guess, the bar staff is a bit better at explaining and timeliness. It's on the expensive side but try go there for lunch. For $39 Canadian dollars you get to have soup/ salad, an appetizer, and an entree. With additional $5, you get to have dessert. Strongly recommend the charcuterie board and the asparagus risotto. The halibut tail was fresh. The service was great. We had no reservations and got there around 1:40, they accommodated us. But be aware the kitchen closes at 2, you will need to order fast. The restaurant was cute. read more

Le Clan is not a cheap date night out, but, as far as tastings go, it is a lot of amazing food for the money spent. The atmosphere is playful with all the Jackalobes mounted on the wall, and that adventurous spirit carries through the service and to the food presentation as well. Exquisite and reasonably priced prix fixe menu in a classy, comfy space with impeccable service. We got the 4 dish for $89CAD (at this writing only $64USD). Next time we do the 6 dish! Every morsel was delicious. Two perfect amuse bouche were served, pork cracklin and fried mussel, then I was a bit anxious about the first crab salad course since in was miniscule. However, the subsequent stellar plates were better sized. The standouts were the veal (local small farm like everything here) and rhubarb dessert three ways. Wow. We went for brunch, which was three courses with a lot of sharing. I am pescatarian, and they substituted delicious risotto and fish for the meat my parents ate. You get to see the kitchen as you enter, and then you eat upstairs. The atmosphere is nice, not over the top, but very tasteful. The service was what you would expect from a restaurant with a Michelin star, very helpful, but not obtrusive. The food was incredible. The standouts for me were the fondue croquettes and the scones, but everything was delicious. I would highly recommend. read more

Wow, what an amazing experience. This is in an old townhouse with the kitchen on the main floor and seating on the 2nd. Note: this restaurant is not ADA accessible. The decor is fisherman/ hunter, with animal heads and pictures of fish on the walls. My Mom and I chose the 6 course tasting menu with their mocktails. The count is closer to 11, than 6 if you count the 2 amuse bouche and the pre-dessert. The 1st amuse bouche was a pork belly crackling with a dipping sauce (wish I'd taken a picture) , which was very crunchy, though light. The Next amuse bouche was a croquette of mussels mixed with a mild andouillie sausage, deep fried in a light batter.along with fresh baked bread. Next was a halibut in a corn sauce, then the arctic char (so buttery) on top of fresh peas, green onion, and petite penne with a light cream sauce. The Next course was my favorite, which was the smoked sturgeon with a venison rag out and a light "soup", followed by lamb prepared 2 ways that came with a lentil puree, with the last meat course of duck with a squash puree. Next came the pre-dessert (yes, you read that right & we had to laugh) of a petite strawberry shortcake. Finally, we were served dessert, which were 3 rhubarb dishes with the 1st being a white chocolate mousse over a blonde with a rhubarb gelee, a rhubarb sorbet with crispy rice, and finally a tartlet of rhubarb gelee with a torched meringue on top. The mocktails the paied with each course were wonderful. The 1st one was an elderberry spritz that I wish they would bottle. So good. Highly recommend. read more

What a great meal in the heart of Quebec City! It was only a few blocks away from our hotel which was very convenient and when you arrive, you walk past the kitchen and up the stairs (we also noticed they have a chefs table next to the kitchen). You can choose 4 or 6 courses but that's the only choice you get! The meal is a complete surprise (though the menu was rolled up in a little holder on the table if we wanted a sneak peak to what was coming) which really gives the kitchen creativity. I chose the 4, my husband the 6. They were also very accommodating with me being pregnant, offering mocktails and making sure things were cooked through which I appreciated. The "mushroom" dessert was my favorite though - it was absolutely delicious and so fun. A few small things - they seemed to have a hard time regulating the air temperature. For most of the meal we were warm and then half way through the air came on and it was cooler, but then turned off and it got warm again. We also sat next to a large table of 7 who got louder as their drinks flowed but their dishes definitely held up the kitchen. We weren't in a rush or anything but noticed some of our dishes taking longer because of the big table. read more

My friend who visited Quebec recently highly recommended Le Clan so our group of 4 made a reservation during our trip.  Their kitchen is actually on ground floor and the restaurant is upstairs.  They have an extensive tasting menu which was inspired by different regions of Canada.  Due to our diet restrictions we ordered a la carte and our friends ordered the tasting menu, Be prepared for a 3 hours long dinner if you get the tasting menu. Service was attentive, their menu was only in French but our waiter was very patience and explain everything.  Their house complimentary bread with soft butter was the best, there was no shame in asking for 2nds...or 3rd basket for us.  I got the lobster bisque and the lobster tail entree. Hubby got a salad, scallop appetizer and also the lobster tail entree. Our friends enjoyed their 4 course tasting menu and even shared their dessert with us.  There was a miscommunication in our friends' order, however the manager took care of it right away. Waitstaff explain each dish with as much or as little info as a guest may want. Don't be distracted by the humongous moose head and antler topped rabbit heads in the restored second floor dining area of the historic stone building. Le Clan can be a splurge or the best budget gourmet meal you've ever had. Le Clan's regular prix fixe tasting menus start at around $100 CAD with an additional fee for wine pairings. The magic of Le Clan is you can experience its culinary wonders with its $39 CAD weekend prix fixe brunch menu and its $5 CAD weekday small plate tasting lunch menu. The prix fixe brunch menu includes over a dozen small dishes, some more substantial than others. Each course includes a few dishes served together - individually most are just bites of food but together the small plates were a delicious meal. Starters included the most delicious scones and toast served with a light cheese spread and blueberry jam made from tiny blueberries. Then came smoked sausage, creton (Quebecois pork spread), a green salad, hummus (more a cream than a dip with lacy crackers), eggplant tomato spread, fried cheese, deep fried seafood balls (made with whelks), a few paper thin slices of cured meat and duck fat French fries (OMG - first time we had potatoes fried in duck fat). Dessert included mini waffles served with a decadent butter thick maple cream, tasty banoffee tarts and a raspberry jello shot. Not mentioned on Le Clan's website is its weekday lunch tasting menu inspired by a 1958 menu of Le Café de la Paix, a historic cafe in Paris. Unlike the brunch, you can choose as few or as many of the $5 CAD plates as you desire. And yes, that is $5 per plate that includes some small bites but also some moderate sized portions that together can be a lunch for one. From the menu of 17 dishes, we selected nine dishes that made a delicious lunch for two. Among the bite size dishes were the Veal Patty (mini burger patty), the Guinea Fowl Ballotine (the best of the bites) and the Chocolate and Pecan Decadence (large ganache covered petit four). Larger portions that together would make a nice meal: Deviled Eggs with Appalachian Truffles (3 half eggs), Cold Carrot Soup (spicy soup of the day), Sourdough Bread Plate (not the same bread plate from the brunch), Spaghetti with Halibut Chowder Sauce (a favorite - pasta in a cream sauce dotted with halibut), Mixed Greens Salad and Pecan Pie with Cream Cheese Ice Cream (best pecan maple pie). Ordering the pasta and salad would make a delicious light lunch for only $10 CAD! For Quebec newbies - note that your bill will reflect two fees - TVQ (Quebec provincial sales tax) and TPS (federal goods and services tax) that will add almost 15% to your total bill. Doesn't look like much from the street. But once you walk upstairs, you feel like you've been transported to a completely different place. We had the 6 course menu with a wine pairing. Each course was exquisite and the wine pairing was perfection. Our server Julie explained every dish and pairing. Pace was slow compared to "normal" restaurants but it allowed for us to thoroughly enjoy each portion of the evening. It's a bit pricey but so worth it! read more

We called and received a same day reservation on a Tuesday evening, and were the last guests to be seated in the cozy main dining room of Le Clan. Antoine, the sommelier, greeted us unassumingly, letting us know our table was almost ready and that Julia would be our server for the evening. And oh what an evening... Julia carefully explained the 4-course, 6-course, and a la cart menu as well as the wine pairings to go with each and gracefully accepted my wish to substitute veal for something else. In the end, we chose one 4-course plus oysters a la carte with the 4-course "exceptional" wine pairings and one 6-course with the 6-course pairings. Oooh la la ... la la la la! Antoine came over to explain the wines and has an encyclopedic knowledge of wines, the varietal grapes, the geology and geography of France and Spain, even managing to come up with the flavor one of the exceptional wines reminded me of (a white priorat), and ever increasing array of dazzling and fascinating wines to sample with the meal. Wow, wow, wow! This was one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. I'm glad I saw the gentleman standing outside the door so I knew they were open! (Yelps hours were not updated). First, the greeter explains the menu so that you know what to expect before getting a table. When you walk in, you see the kitchen. The host then pushes a button on the door and the door opens to a stairway. At the top of the stairs is another host to seat you. I was alone and they sat me at a high top table that kind of overlooked the room. I felt a bit on display, but it was super comfortable and cozy. My server, Yulia was phenomenal! She was adorable and clearly explained the menu and the course options. She was such a great salesperson that I definitely over ordered. I started with a glass of champagne and oysters. The oysters were fresh and so tasty. There was no rushing here-they gave time to enjoy every bite and explained the origins of the food in each course and described all ingredients. I chose the 4 course meal with the lower priced wine paring. The wines all went perfectly with each course. For the 4 course meal, they brought out a beef tartare tartelette. This might have been my favorite! I then had the mussel flan with a fresh mussel on top. It was so good. And the bread they give you is truly irresistible! The next course was the salmon which was probably my true favorite. So fresh, flavorful. The next course was the veal. It was well seasoned, but it was a bit rare for me. It was probably my least favorite but I think a lot of people would like it. Before the 4th course, dessert, they gave me a pre dessert! Another favorite-it was basically a lychee ball in liqueur and I could have eaten a big bowl of it! The dessert was a road trip in Quebec with ingredients from different areas. I really liked the one that was ice cream like (the white one). This was an incredible experience and was worth every penny. From start to finish we had a wonderful experience we had at Le Clan. The service is spot on, exactly what you would expect. We got a great story to setup the meal, the chefs story and love of fishing and hunting. Why the meal was setup the way it was, and a request to let the menu be a secret, the courses unwind before us. The starter was a lovely morsel of wagu pastrami and we then transitioned to to the shrimp pancake appetizer. Two fish courses of smoked sturgeon and walleye followed. Each delicious, perfectly balanced. Transition to the meat course of rabbit medallions. Superfluity tender, just melting in your mouth. The main meat course was a succulent veal tenderloin. Tender and juicy, full of flavor. Desert was equally amazing. A little dark chocolate pre-desert to transition the pallet. We were only in town for one night, and this was the best place we could have chosen for dinner. The aesthetic was a unique, upscale dining room decked out with fantastical jackalopes. One of the most memorable meals we've ever had. You enter the restaurant on the ground floor, almost feeling like you are walking into the open kitchen. Then you are "swept" upstairs to the unique and beautiful dining room. The service was the best we have ever experienced - friendly and knowledgeable. We opted for the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairings. Each course (starting from the beautiful wagyu beef tartare amuse bouche) was both beautiful and delicious. The first course was asparagus. The second and third were fish dishes (the third course in particular was a work of art). Next was a unique poultry dish (I think pheasant, but I can't remember) followed by a tender medallion of veal. The dessert course was a journey unto itself. One of my goals while visiting Quebec City was to have some fabulous French food, and Le Clan exceeded all expectations! I thought we were in the wrong entrance because when we walked in, the kitchen was right in front of us. Immediately, they saw that my sister- in- law was in a wheelchair and offered the chef's table, which is downstairs. All other seating is upstairs. What a fortunate turn of events that was. We were lucky enough to watch the chefs at work. The whole staff was so warm and welcoming and our waitress, Lucy, was absolutely lovely! When my sister-in-law had to negotiate the stairs to use the restroom, the chef/ owner himself escorted her. When my sister- in- law protested, he would not take no for an answer. He simply responded, "My pleasure!" Now the food! We had the 3 course menu which was so economical and absolutely delicious! It was as good if not better than any food I've had in Napa, San Francisco, or New York. If you have a couple of hours for a great meal and an incredible experience, you must go to Le Clan. My husband and I visited from Florida and made it a point to have a date night at this beautiful restaurant. I must say I have eaten all over the world and had the privilege of eating at fantastic and highly rated restaurants. The service and servers were extremely knowledgeable and unbelievable. I should also mention, I have never in my life had a dish as good as the arctic char offered this evening. I cannot stop talking about that dish, c'est incroyable.
