Excellent service and food. It was best restaurant we ate at in Quebec City. We reserved this for a birthday dinner and glad we did.

Le Continental delivers a truly old-school French dining experience, from white tablecloth service to tableside preparations that turn dinner into a performance. I ordered the tableside flambé steak, and watching it cooked right in front of you is half the experience. The steak itself was perfectly thick, expertly prepared, and absolutely delicious. The service is polished and professional, though very rooted in tradition. One small note: the kitchen wouldn't accommodate a Caesar salad for one, which felt a bit inflexible, but also very on-brand for a place that does things their way. That said, the overall experience was memorable and special. It's easy to see why this is a spot Anthony Bourdain famously dined at. Le Continental has confidence, history, and a commitment to classic French service that doesn't chase trends. This isn't a casual or quick meal, but if you're looking for a timeless dining experience in Quebec City, it's absolutely worth it.

One of the best meals I've ever had in my life. And it was only surpassed by the service. I wish we lived closer and could come all the time!!

I loved this place. It felt like a dinner my grandparents would have told me about. The wood paneled walls and sconces make it feel fancy. The service was friendly. They prepared the Caesar salad and steak table side, so fun. My scallops were delicious. The potatoes and spinach were great. Our big disappointment, was we are towards the end of our trip, and we're all too full for crepes Suzette, we will definitely get them next time. Treat yourself to a great experience at Le Continental.

Since Quebec City is home to 39 Michelin restaurants, we decided to try a couple. Although other places were pretty good, we were not as thoroughly impressed until we had our dinner at Le Continental!! From the food to the service, everything was exceptional! This French restaurant was established 67 years ago and the staff told us that nothing on the recipe has been changed! They take pride in bringing the kitchen to the table and cooking at the table for us!! Every single server was so good at not only serving, but also making the food, and providing extraordinary customer service at the same time! They are happy to be there and happy to do whatever it takes to make sure you have a good time!! A rare experience in our dining history across the globe! Even the host and the staff at the front made us feel so welcomed the minute we walked into the restaurant (unlike the other Michelin restaurant did not bother talking to me nor checking my rsvp when I showed up 15 mins early for my rsvp). They checked our coat and really took care of us! It is all about the little things! We had the orange duck for 2. They brought the entire duck to our table, ripped up the bone and cooked in Orange sauce at the table. I don't typically eat duck unless I am in a very good French restaurant, and this was an amazing meal! We also had escargot. I love the shell still stay intact! Even in France now, many restaurants would take the shell off which feel more commercialized on a traditional French dish and of course, I saw most places in Quebec City do that, except this place!

Amazing service. Great food. Wonderful atmosphere. We were pleasantly impressed with the synchronized service and the pleasant demeanor of the staff. This is a five star restaurant with the feeling of a family restaurant. Absolutely fantastic restaurant and delicious food

I had high hopes for this place. As a solo diner I was so excited when they said they could accommodate the table side Caesar for 1! Nicolas did a great job chatting and showing his process. The service was impeccable, I feel it was above and beyond. It was the food. At the end of his process making the dressing, I thought I was in for the best Caesar of my life and the Nicolas dumped about a half cup of bacon and unfortunately, that over powered all the other flavors. I also would have preferred more of the Romain heart and less of the green leaves but that might just be me. Next, I had the Escargot, which I always order if on a menu and they were nicely done (but being made of garlic and butter, they are rarely bad) . My one complaint would be that there wasn't much sauce. I love to sop up whatever is left with bread at the end. Then I had the scallops and at $63, the portion was nice. I wish they had explained the one scallop that was different than the other 3 in its shell and the reason for it. It was plated well and topped with caviar but they were SO salty, that they were inedible. I didn't say anything because the staff was so friendly and I didn't want to cause a stir. I was full at the point that I chalked it to a loss. Very expensive meal at $200/1 person including wine. But the staff was great. I wish it was better tasting.

Glad I had to chance to try this place thanks to seeing it on Parts Unknown. Great service, atmosphere, and great food. Ordered the escargot and Dover sole meunière. Both seasoned perfectly, simple, and flavorful. The side of rice, braised carrots, and asparagus were a nice touch as well

Excellent service and food! The scallop dish was 11/10, it was cooked perfectly and everything about this dish was perfect! I will forever think about this dish. Even though I dined alone, my server still made me a cherries jubilee! As a very big cherries jubilee fan, this was so exciting and it tasted amazing. My experience was very positive here. If you want an elevated dinner with excellent service with incredible bites, make sure to stop by while in Quebec!

Fine dining French restaurant with friendly wait staff. We went to a different place for dinner and left in the middle of it because it was very disappointing. We just happened to stumble across this place. Started with the escargot that was prepped in garlic better and was pretty good. Then ordered the filet and bone marrow. I LOVED the bone marrow. Filet was also pretty good. Would go back for the bone marrow.

Came here on a Wednesday night and it was a bit busy. We waited about 5 minutes before being seated. The servers were very nice and fast. Our server was a bit older but he was great! Gave us great recommendations and advice on our foods. Started off our meals with a French 75 (soo good compared to the ones made in America) and a red wine. We ordered oysters and escargot, which were both sooo good! Definitely recommend ordering them as appetizers. Our server recommended dipping the bread in the escargot sauce, which was super tasty too. I ordered the filet mignon, which was cooked right in front of us! It came out perfect (medium rare). My husband ordered the beef Wellington, which was super tasty too! The pastry was nice and flakey and the meat inside was cooked good too. One of the servers recommended cutting the beef Wellington into pieces and dipping it into the sauce so the pastry wouldn't get soggy. Regardless of it being a little loud inside the restaurant, we enjoyed it!

This was the best meal we had while we were in Quebec. If you're looking to dine here, I would recommend making a reservation in advance! This restaurant provided the perfect atmosphere for a cozy dinner date. For our appetizer, we enjoyed the Minestrone soup, which was a light and flavorful soup that was perfect to offset the cold weather! Our main courses included the Dover sole Meunière, which was a light flaky fish and the special Beef Wellington served with an amazing Foie Gras gravy! We also ordered a side dish of the mashed potatoes which were super buttery and also went great with the Foie Gras gravy. Our service was quick and all of the waiters were attentive in case we needed to order anything else and always made sure our waters were filled! We'll make sure to come back when we visit Quebec again!

    Carolyn M.

This amazing restaurant has not changed in years and we don't want it to!! Some of the finest service in the area, very attentive waiters dressed in tuxedos, they know what they are doing. The table-side preparation of many dishes is not only entertaining but educational, as our server explained the best way to make a Caesars salad dressing while he did it. Don't miss the table side steaks, the duck, the shrimp. All cooked perfectly, melt in your mouth. Save room for dessert especially the pears flambé!!! This old-school wonderful restaurant is a no-miss.

With the dynamic trio of Philippe Racine, Philippe Fournier, and Andréa Beauseigle at the helm, this newly minted bistro is not just a meal; it's an experience that speaks to the heart of local gastronomy. As we stepped into the inviting atmosphere of Bistro St. Malo, we were immediately struck by the relaxed ambience that feels both chic and comforting. The decor is a perfect marriage of rustic elegance and modern flair, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening. The menu, crafted with both passion and precision, beckoned us to explore a variety of tempting dishes. We kicked off our culinary journey with the Mussels Marinière, bathed in a heavenly concoction of wine and garlic. Each bite was a succulent reminder of the sea, perfectly paired with crusty bread that could easily become a new best friend. Next on the list was the Soupe à l'Oignon, a classic French onion soup that was nothing short of a warm hug in a bowl. The rich broth, adorned with a gooey layer of melted cheese, transported us straight to a cozy Parisian bistro. Now, if you think escargots are just a fancy way to say "snails," think again. The Escargots Gratinés at Bistro St. Malo are a revelation, baked to perfection with a garlicky herb butter that made us rethink our long-held beliefs about these little treasures. For the main event, we indulged in the Joue de Bœuf sauce Robert, a sous-vide masterpiece that had been lovingly cooked for 30 hours. The beef cheek was so tender it practically melted on the fork, paired with a creamy potato purée and vegetables roasted in duck fat--a dish that could make even the most steadfast vegetarian reconsider their choices. We couldn't resist diving into the Ragoût de la Mer, a seafood stew that was a celebration of the ocean's bounty. With scallops, shrimp, lobster, cod, tuna, and salmon mingling in a rich bisque, this dish was a symphony of flavors that sang the praises of the fresh local products so central to the bistro's philosophy. Bistro St. Malo is more than just a meal; it's a culinary journey that pays homage to both French tradition and the vibrant tastes of the Mediterranean. If you find yourself wandering the charming streets of Quebec City, do yourself a favor and make your way to 75 St-Paul Street. You might just discover your new favorite dining spot.

A Delicious Lunch in the Heart of Old Québec…read more We stopped into Lapin Sauté for lunch following a wonderful walking tour of Old Québec, and it proved to be the perfect place to relax and enjoy a memorable meal. Both of us opted for the table d'hôte menu, which included an appetizer, main course, dessert, and tea or coffee. We happily paid the small supplement to begin with the Duck Foie Gras served with strawberry-rhubarb jam and brioche--a decision we did not regret for a second. The foie gras was rich and silky, while the sweet-tart jam provided a beautiful contrast. For our entrées, I chose the Pulled Rabbit Poutine with devil's sauce. Comfort food elevated to another level, it was hearty, flavorful, and utterly satisfying. My dining partner selected the Cassoulet with duck sausage and duck leg confit. While the duck was excellent, it was the beans that stole the show--perfectly cooked, deeply flavored, and exactly what a great cassoulet should be. We finished with desserts: a traditional Far Breton for me and a beautifully executed Crème Brûlée for my dining partner. Both were wonderful endings to an already excellent meal. The service was warm and attentive, the ambiance charming and inviting, and the food delicious from beginning to end. Located in the heart of Old Québec, Lapin Sauté is exactly the kind of restaurant travelers hope to discover--authentic, welcoming, and serving food that leaves a lasting impression. They really know how to celebrate food and have put great thought into their food combinations, elevating good quality ingredients into a fine dining experience. Le Hobbit is a cozy spot with a corner view of the city's dining/shopping street with great 2 seater tables to enjoy the private ambiance as well as some longer tables for groups of 4, 6, 8 to gather. Reservations is highly recommended/required. The atmosphere is very cozy with wood themes and very private. We had: - house lemonade - the foie gras seed butter and blueberry jam app; this is served on a broiche with a large amount of foie gras and homemade roasted sunflower seed butter; this was a very flavorful and filling starter for two - Poulet de Cornouailles - cornish roasted hen (the whole bird, small); was very delicate, served on mashed turnips, topped with an artistic grilled turnip and other veggies to cover the protein, it was a great experience to taste each component of the dish and have it come together well - veal flank steak with sauce on carrot puree and bitter vegetables - dessert (which changes frequently) was an artistic experience, a spiced cake with sauce, a uniquely (not my favorite) ice cream with candied bitter citrus peel served on top of toasted granola/sweetened biscuits The serving staff was super knowledgeable and presented each course and dish when served with further explanations on the ingredients, process, as well as how to best experience the dish. We cannot complain about that. Our server was friendly and very charming. The meal was beautifully paced. The restaurant itself is very noisy. The food itself was disappointing. On the recommendation of our server we started with the carrot doughnut. The doughnut itself was lost under a mountain of ricotta. I would not have known that it was carrot, except that she had told us. We ordered two other starters : I ordered the foie gras pate and my boyfriend ordered the fried oysters. The pate was served on a small layer of sunflower butter, which was unnecessary. The pate itself was surprisingly flavorless. Homemade bread and blueberry jam served alongside was quite good. The fried oysters were completely drowned in buffalo sauce, another green sauce and "blue cheese foam". I would not have even known they were oysters. They were served underneath some cucumbers and peppers and lettuce. For our main course, we shared the blood pudding, which, despite the crazy number of ingredients actually was delicious. It was the best thing we ate. It was served with homemade bacon, a roasted artichoke heart, and some mussels croquettes. Seriously a lot going on. For dessert we ordered the spiced orchard dacquoise. Another complex, and I thought overly complicated dish, that my boyfriend felt worked well. It was presented nicely, and I remembered to get a picture of it. All in all, it seemed like there's just way too much going on in each dish and no particular flavor stands out. Two of the dishes, the fried oysters and the carrot doughnut were just sloppy and smothered. The boudin and the dessert were both beautifully plated, and the flavors worked better as well. The foie gras appetizer was unfortunately bland, and the main ingredient did not shine. Maybe it was an off night? Maybe we didn't order the best things? Evidently, they're doing something right because they've been going for 50 years, but we just didn't see that.

We were underdressed, but the host basically was like "the dress code is only for the waitstaff, you are fine." So the place is definitely welcoming and had a nice vibe. Most of the tables spoke French but there was one other larger group also composed of English speakers. Waitstaff was fully bilingual though the vibe of the place is more Francophone than Quebec tourist. The food is cooked technically very well, though the portions are small, particularly our scallop appetizer which was maybe 2 scallops. The food was very good, but for the price it wasn't amazing, amazing. My wife said her trout for example was a bith mushy. I had the beef and it was very good. I'd happily it that and the scallop dish (maybe I'd order two, lol) again. Cocktails were also very good. Then there was the pre-dinner mackrel rolled in seaweed. Totally fine but an odd choice to give to all the diners. Also, the bread was only so-so (I got a better loaf tonight at Farm Boy) and the pepper butter and fois-gras butter were sort of tasteless. Again this is a solid restaurant and despite being 'fancy' had a very unpretentious vibe about it, which I appreciated. But the price feels a bit high, and the service was quite slow. So for me, it is a 4, but except for a restaurant I ate with friends in Montreal in 2018 (the name of which I am forgetting) and a really excellent spot on Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine, the it is probably the best restaurant I've eaten at in Quebec.

Don't forget to save room for their desserts though because they were so thoughtful and artistically crafted!! Walking in, you go through a modern dining room and foyer. Then you enter their glass ceiling green house room where it's an eclectic but classy collection of plants, art, and decor. Their WINE MENU was an insane list & came as a book that was 50+ pages long!! Along with a bottle of wine, lovely complimentary bread & butter & amuse bouche....here's what we ordered: THE FOIE GRAS EXPERIENCE (5/5) - so fun getting to mix and match all 5 forms of foie gras. The most mind blowing one HAS to be the brûléed/caramelized foie gras in the little dish. Smokey, rich and savoury! LOBSTER BISQUE (5/5) - love the large chunk of fresh lobster. I enjoyed that it's not mashed up with everything and I get to enjoy the textures and flavour pairing. Jean-Luc Boulay Signature dish: Squab from Turlo's farm (5/5) - so many things to rave about with the dish. You simply MUST try this, truly a signature dish. EVERYTHING was amazing, and that stuffed mushroom took it to the next level for me. RACK OF LAMB (5/5) - beautiful cut of lamb (not fatty like how most other restaurants are). It's also presented/deconstructed so nicely for ease of eating! The Cannelé (5/5) - DREAMY dessert. It took me by surprise with the caramelized crispy cross-sectioned Cannelé sandwiched with rum mousse and ice cream. The Imperial (4/5) - great praline dessert
