She took the time to greet customers as they walked in, and assisted those already inside. She seriously was amazing. I ended up purchasing two mugs as a gift. I just could not pass them up. The thing I like about this place, in the back of the store, they actually have cooking classes. So Mini me and I signed up for their knife using class. Being a home cook, learning proper knife skills is very important, also proper cleaning of kitchen knives is useful. And this is what the class is about. I really wanted to sign up for other classes, but let's face it, the other 3 classes just didn't hit it with me. Sushi class, beef Wellington, finally another fish cooking class. Nah, it's just not my cup of tea. With this class, kiddo will have to be away from me. The reason being is that she is a lefty while I use my right hand. With her being left handed, watching her with sharp objects just gives me an anxiety attach! Another impressive thing about The Kitchen Barn, everything is made in America. Now that is something that I can support. Also, they showed me wooden products that were made from Floyd, Virginia. Yes, Floyd is in the mountains of Virginia. We found this shop and a beautiful (and pricey) piece of pottery in the front window that unfortunately I could not fly home with. Fast forward to today over 5 months later and it's still there. This time we drive and it was coming home. BUT... when I entered the shop the owner or employee was upstairs and when I said I needed help she continued to yell from above instead of coming down to the COMPLETELY EMPTY store. I explain I'd like to see the piece in the window and the she replies "Well I can't just take it out." I say "Even to sell?" She starts shuffling down stairs and muttering and says "I can't just take it out to look at" under her breath but loud enough for me to hear. Well that was it. We just told her not to bother herself and left. Enjoy your completely empty shop when it's closed because you can't be bothered to actually sell anything. And I agree with the owner... She had zero patience to actually sell anything. Not on the phone not doing anything but sitting upstairs and didn't want to be bothered. Just laziness. If you don't want to sell something big and can't be bothered to move it maybe don't put it in your display window or hire someone not rude and lazy. I try to shop local and support local businesses but if you don't want to be bothered and then LIE about it then you don't deserve the support. And if you were sorry you did a poor job of showing it.

They also have some unique items in their "used" items. if you want some dirt cheap cheesey coffee mugs or those clear frosted salad places, this is the place to find them. It appears these are bought from restaurants that are closing and resold at a fraction of the original price. I've been there several times over the past 5 years, and everytime, they seem to recognize me - not necessarily by name, but they know i shop there. These kinds of family owned businesses serve as the model for other businesses in how they treat customers, even the once-in-a-while customer like me.

Smallwares and small equipment is what most of their inventory is and they really have a nice well rounded selection. Not the largest selection of large equipment but they would order you whatever you needed. I didn't need any heavy equipment, but If I did I would go to see Mike at Atlantis. The front desk staff seriously needs training in customer service, communication, empathy, and how to appropriately interact with families of individuals with disabilities. What made the interaction even more upsetting was the lack of basic understanding or willingness to communicate respectfully. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect regardless of their race, disability, or circumstances. I hope management addresses how their front desk staff speaks to customers because the way we were treated today was unacceptable.

Welp, the wonderful world of Instagram brought Jars of Dust to my attention. I was scrolling and…read morescrolling one day and saw a workshop opportunity. So my friend and I booked a class. It was one of the best activities we did together. We enjoyed every minute of the class. The pricing was very reasonable especially for what we got. They really take pride in their product and made sure to handle our projects with care! The class was small which I loved. We were paid attention to closely and she was very helpful throughout the entire class. The little store front they have is so cute. So many cute products to purchase both their own and local artists and small businesses. Parking is easy. They are tucked back with a few other businesses. We plan to be back! Products take about 6-8 weeks to finish being made once you finish making the product.

This was a great find in downtown Williamsburg. We went there because they were open a little later…read morethan most specialty shops (7 PM) and they featured some very interesting and artistic decorative pottery and ceramic pieces. However, what really stole the show were the treats. The Turkish Coffee was superb. It was authentically made via the sand method. I got the Ottoman which had milk added with touches of cinnamon and cardamom. It was a wonderfully flavorful concoction. We also got Turkish Delight and Baklava to take away. The Delight lived up to its name, especially the chocolate brownie variety. It was an exceedingly delicious treat. The baklava were also terrific as they were loaded with honey. To top things off, the proprietor was one of the nicest and most engaging people you'd ever want to meet. He is originally from Istanbul. I enjoyed my conversation with him since that is a city which I highlight amongst the ones I have been privileged to visit. It was a lovely visit to this delightful shop and we hope to return in the future when the chance arises.
