We had the most wonderful dinner with our friends on Friday evening at Le Deauville. We were welcome by Marc and his daughter Camille who had prepared a very nice quiet table. Recently visited Le Deauville with a group and was very surprised at how packed it was for a Tuesday! Luckily we had made a reservation and were able to be seated upon arrival. True to its name the restaurant has a very cozy "French" feel to it with lots of wood accents and dim ambient lighting. However the tables are so close together it was so loud- it made it difficult for me to hear my friends as well as the waiter. The service was....European as well. When we were seated we were presented with a drink menu, but had to later flag down a waiter to be given menus for food. I understand that the place was busy, so I'm sure that played a big part in the inattentiveness of the staff throughout the evening- who were all very nice. The wait time for everything aside- the food was GREAT. I ordered the salmon entree and it was absolutely delicious. Le Deauville is a great date night spot or for a special evening! We've been there several times. It always seemed like the owner accommodated his friends and favorites over everyone else. Some days he accepts reservations and on other's ge does not. It all depends on his mood or whim. The mussles are an excellent deal so we continued going. But his service to his chosen few continued. One evening I witnessed him push a server aside while she bussed a table and he called her lazy! I couldn't believe it. She assured me that she was fine. The next week we went again and that was the final time. We attempted to call in a reservation to no avail. We showed up about 645 pm and waited patiently to get sat. The servers were pleasant. The owner on the other hand continued to show himself and sat orhers before us. I approached him respectfully and in summary he said it is what it is. He did seat us immediately after but continued to state that he didn't do it deliberately when i know we were the the only ones waiting alone until his "friends" arrived. Le Deauville is a restaurant that we frequent on special occasions. There is great communication via text messages, making it extremely easy to make reservations! The atmosphere is busy, romantic, downtown big city feel, hole in the wall! If you're wanting somewhere quiet, it's hard to get that here because it's quite small. What keeps us going back is the food and SUPERB service! If you like duck, they have the best in town! Feel free to order an extra piece with your entree. One serving of the escargot is not enough so be prepared to order two! For an extra delight, that I learned from a French neighbor years ago, dip a piece of your baguette into red wine and enjoy it with your escargot!! Thank me later! One of the cons of this restaurant is the waiting area. It's right inside the doorway and you're likely going to disturb the diners around you. Not because of talking, but you may just have your behind stuck in their back! Another con is the very tiny table right beside the kitchen. There's a lot of traffic here and you can't get much food on the table. Perfect for one diner, but horrible for two. The best compliment I can give is that the staff works very hard to please and there is never a problem with the food! read more

This past Friday, my friends and I went to Le Deauville for dinner (without any reservations). For one of my friends and I, it was our second time at this place, and the reason we came back again was because we had a great time the first time (like we had thoroughly enjoyed our dinner experience here). Both of my friends drove from Louisville. By the time they arrived in Lexington, both were hungry. We ordered several cocktail drinks, appetizers, and entrees. The service was slower this time, and the dinner took us almost 3 hours. The restaurant was not entirely busy, but our server was gone for a long time, and we didn't see her for a while. I used to be in the food industry, and I usually understood what was happening behind the scenes in the kitchen or in the restaurant, but it was not okay when we were left unattended for a good time. (Our drinks were long gone, and we wanted to order more drinks that night). One of my friends almost left the table because it took a long time to get our drinks or food, and he was not having it that night. I got my friend to sit still and wait for our food because leaving was still rude. Besides the slow service, the restaurant's ambiance is intimate and has a romantic setting. I recommend this place for dates and for trying delicious French cuisine with robust and delightful cocktail drink options. I guess, from my first experience and this recent one, we will have to return much later to try this place again. Le Deauville is such a great unique spot in Lexington! Such a cozy interior and an incredibly impressive menu to go with. The mussels are always a crowd favorite! I will say to maybe only go here for a date night or with a small group of 4 or less, as I don't think they are as efficient for larger groups. I came with a pretty big group that had a reservation, and we had a few minor service issues do to the group size, but I think this spot usually knocks it out of the park with a smaller table. We had dinner Friday night after University of Kentucky graduation. We had 9 people and had a wonderful meal and great service. The duck, New York strip and Salmon were what most ordered!! Each of these meals was fantastic!! The owner also had a cake ordered from Martine's Bakery and it is the best cake in Lexington!(Pistachio with buttercream and Macrons on top!) I have dined at Le Deauville a few times primarily because of its proximity to my work hotel but also because the food is consistently good. Something was off tonight, and I hope it's a blip, but I'll be hard pressed to return. I don't mind spending money and tipping well on an occasional "experience." However, this is what I received as my dessert mousse to-go. Maybe a kitchen response to my wait staff comment that my filet was cooked a little over (but still delicious) to my liking? I don't know. But after dropping not a small amount of money on a meal and gratuity, I wasn't happy to open this parcel in my hotel. read more

Well, when the little boy is welcomed, automatic five stars. No reservation and I asked for the two top outside because of course Fangalicious was with me. The owner did not hesitate, he seated me right away. For me, the best part of dinner was the chilled carrot soup and the mussels. We also had the chicken and a special fish dish for entrees. Both were delicious and creative, but the chilled soup is what I would go back for. It was refreshing. This place is one of my top choices for din din in Lexington. My husband and I tried to eat there last night. We were super excited to try the food as we are headed to Paris in two weeks and love the cuisine. The owner greeted us at the door but then had a strange look on his face when my husband said table for two. I am not sure what about us offended him as we were dressed nicely. Three young women came in behind us. He ignored us and asked them if they would like a table and sat them. Lots of empty tables. He just left us standing there. About 15 min later while we are still standing at the door, two servers came up and asked us what happened and if he had come back to seat us. When we said no, they apologized and said the owner "was rude". We left without getting to try the food. Still not sure what about our appearance offended him but here's a picture. We were dressed appropriately. We own a building a block from this restaurant and come there quite a bit so very disappointed that we aren't able to eat there. I thought we would be regulars. I will preface saying that I am a sucker for French food: this place keeps growing on me and, at least for the last few months, it remains my favorite dining experience in the city of Lexington. This place feels, in every way to me, like true dining ought to. The patio is a treat to dine on. You can watch the people of Lexington pass by, a noisy motorcyclist, and gaze at the architecture of the steeple of St. Peter's all in one vantage. There, you peek into the secret mysteries of Lexington's spirit. One gets the feeling that the staff here genuinely cares about food as a sacrament, an art. The happy hour is one of the best there is in Lexington: 5p-6:30p half off glasses of wine (from which they provide a good selection to compliment the entrees) and half off appetizers. The escargot is great. Their French onion soup is second-best only to my own. They are probably most renowned for their all you can eat muscles every Tuesday. However, I don't think they're very good. I recommend everything else, however. Bring a friend or two, share some wine, some good conversation, and enjoy the art of dining. The duck confit is truly amazing and probably my top recommendation for the entrée. Pair it with a nice, heavy, right-bank bordeaux. For dessert? In the words of the illustrious French philosopher of food, Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin, "Dessert without cheese is like a pretty woman with only one eye." This is a beautiful little restaurant just across from Transylvania University. That day, they also had wonderful rack of lamb and their seafood sounded delicious. The food is good, but be sure to plan for at least 3 hours before you get your food. Asked several times for fries which are supposed to come with the meal. Finally came 2.5 hours in. This was one of the strangest experiences I've ever had. First, the bright spot. The bread that was brought to the table was amazing. The cocktails were great. But our server never asked us if we wanted another. So we ended up drinking the water, which was fine until they refilled the water glasses and it then tasted of soap. The appetizer came out right away and it was clearly burned. The waiter came by and commented that it's so dark. Didn't offer to exchange it. Then we waited for a very long time. Medium rare steak was blue, and the potatoes were cold. Given how long we waited, it was a bit ridiculous. Don't go there on all you can eat mussels night, they will make you wait hours for the food to come out - they just kept saying over and over that they were really busy but it just looked like a typical night. After letting the server know that we'd just like our bill for our appetizers as the mussels were taking too long, within one minute they finally bring out the mussels as if they literally had them sitting waiting around the corner until we were too upset too continue waiting. How about all you can eat Moules Frites? Un, the Thai, with coconut milk, garlic and green curry. Deux, Marinere, with white wine, garlic and bacon. Trois, Creole, with Chorizo, tomato, onion and garlic. Fini. The Thai lacked enough curry flavor for me, the Marinere was Délicieux, the Creole (what I could get through) was nice and spicy. The Frites were hot and crisp. All that was missing was some Fritessaus (fries sauce or French mayo). Wonderful mini baguettes for dipping and scooping. I came here with my pregnant friend for an early dinner exactly at 5 o'clock. The food was very delicious but our service seemed lacking due to her timing. She was very friendly but not very attentive. The bar back gentleman seemed to be around a lot more than our waitress. I ordered the mussels Thai version and it was phenomenal, and my friend ordered the pasta of the day which was fettuccine with shrimp and fresh basil, and fire roasted tomatoes. We were both very satisfied with our food selections for the most part. She also ordered a cucumber yogurt cold soup and it was mediocre due to the bitter taste. I had their avocado shrimp salad and it was amazingly delicious. I would highly recommend going there for that salad! The mussels were fresh and tasty from all the Thai flavoring, and French fries gave it a nice salty crunchy addition to the meal. Overall, the food was very good, but I believe due to shortness of staff, you may have to wait a while for your food and service. read more

This is one of my favorite special occasion spots in Lexington. I first came here with my middle school French class, which was just down the road, and we came here on a field trip to practice our French and it was so fun. I will always have that great memory. More recently, I have come here for several Valentine's Days and it's a great, romantic spot for a special date night. They are good about doing prix fixes menus for holidays and the food is divine. On my last visit, my dad and I came here for thanksgiving and it was exceptional. I got sea bass and it was one of the best I've ever had. I make a point to order a special wine whenever I come here and even if I'm busting from fullness I will always order the creme brûlée after dinner. The service is very professional and accommodating. I can't wait for my next special occasion so I can make an excuse to go here! read more
