Absolute gem. CASH ONLY!! Great Vietnamese food for an amazing price in Paris. I paid 6€ for pho and 2,50€ for Leffe beer. No English spoken or English menus (I will post the pictures below), but my basic French suited my just fine (Je voudrais un Pho et un Leffe, s'il vous plaît). The owner chuckled but got my point. It's a true student joint. Opened since 1985 (!!!!) by a philosophy professor from Vietnam, you can actually still see him almost everyday, as he is still manning the back kitchen and comes out to the bar say hello the regulars who are sitting at the bar having aperitif and chatting with each other and the girl behind the bar. The restaurant is tiny, seating no more than 20 people at a time, if there's no vietnamese live karaoke occupying the back tables. The ambiance feels like a 70s Asian student meet-up to talk about the government - filled with books and records (and they sell books as well, but not the ones on the shelf). It's hard not to fall in love with the nostalgia. 5EUR student price for their main dishes. Albeit small portions, it's hard to argue with that price. And non-student price is a mere 6EUR for a quick eat. It's not 100% vietnamese food - they have nem, bo bun, and pho, but it also has curry and spaghetti, etc. I had the bobun and it was not the rice noodle that i was expecting, but big thick Chinese noodles with minced pork and some nem. It was good for its price but not much more than that. They do not accept credit card or ticket resto - which means cash only. They also close early (8:30pm) and it's ridiculously difficult to get a seat regardless of what day of the week you go if you don't show up before 6pm. If you're alone, you can get an empty seat at the bar for a quick meal, but if you are in a group, do try to go as early as right before it opens or else you might have to eat elsewhere. No reservations. I feel guilty about giving it a 3 star because it's a wonderful little place, but honestly it's not a place for people to try really good food, but for people who enjoy the wistfulness the place brings and to cheaply fill your bellies. read more

Great food, excellent prices and a very cool atmosphere. They don't open on Sundays and tend to have a waiting line, but that's ok: you can drink a cool beer at the comptoir while waiting for a table. ;) Try the Porc Caramel and the Nams! To die for! read more

6 stars! This tiny hole in the wall place serves amazing Viet food at dirt cheap prices. Being from NY we have all sorts of cuisines I've had my fair shave of Viet. Few good. Most too oily and bad. This place was amazing. The spring rows (Nems) were perfect! Exactly what I'm use to. The Pho was on par with some of the most authentic that I've had. The pork and rice was perfectly seasoned. This restaurant was literally a hole in the all! Most would walk by thinking it a local pub but upon entering its like a blast from the past. Books and small tables throughout. Room for no more than 20 persons. The day we went it wasn't very crowded but it did pick up. Our food was quickly served and we only paid €20 for 2 orders of spring rolls, Pho, and pork and rice Would highly recommend visiting this place if in Paris!!! read more

Small vietnamese place tucked away behind rue de Vaugirard, very cozy atmosphere, and friendly servers. I've been a couple times with 3-4 people and have never had a problem getting a table, though it does sometimes get cramped. The best part is the student prices -- I've only gotten the pho soup, which comes in a huge bowl with a ton of meat (sliced beef and hamburger meat, which was .. interesting, but can't complain). Can't say it's the best pho i've had, but at 5€ a bowl, this can't be beat. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a quick, cheap bite in the neighborhood. read more

Living in Paris to study abroad for a month I am so fortunate to have found this hidden gem. Seriously, what this restaurant has is an authentic charm that goes beyond the food which is served. I'm not sure if it was the lack of Asian food in Paris or the low prices, but the Poulet Curry and Bun Bo gave me the same warm fuzzy feelings that usually only comes from a home cooked meal. read more

Small bar and restaurant. When I walked in I was not sure this place served food because it just looked like a bar for their regular patrons. But we sat down anyway at the small "restaurant-ish" side and got a menu in French. Don't bother asking questions if you don't speak French. They probably wouldn't help you anyway. Clearly, my husband and I were tourists and trying to enjoy the city but don't come here unless you speak French or you can be sure to feel discriminated on. Even the regular costumers in this small joint were unwelcoming. When we tried to walk out the one entrance/exit conveniently located by barstools ...the men sitting by the entrance/exit didn't even bother moving to let us out. This place is great. Two words describe it best - old school. Authentic Vietnamese Cheap food and wine. Around 5 Euros a plate and 2 Euro wine and beer. I don't speak French but gathered the owner is from Vietnam and moved here 39 years ago, and is a Philosopher. There aren't places like this left in most of the developed world. OK, the food is not going to win any culinary awards in this century or the next, BUT this place has charm to beat the band. The sign out front, the stacks of books lodged in dusty corners, the tables shoved every which way... The mere fact that spaghetti bolognese appears on the menu alongside bobun is incredible, if a bit bizarre. The dishes are only really vaguely Asian, but they are filling and they are cheap. Plus, you can slug them down with a pretty cheap beer. The server is taciturn but gracious, giving us fans when it got a bit hot inside, and later supplying us with Hostless-like dessert treats. In short, don't go far afield, but if you're in the neighborhood and you're hungry (and you've got a good supply of Zantac or Tums), then stop on in! read more

Came across this restaurant on yelp when I taking a stroll in the area. This was perfect because I was getting tired of french food for many days and I was craving a bowl of hearty noodle soup. This is a hidden gem that is very easy to miss. The storefront is small and it doesn't really look like a restaurant. We walked past it 3 times before we found it. We were greeted by the owners when we went in and the place was empty. We picked our own table and seated ourselves. I was already enjoying the ambiance of this cute restaurant/bar. We ordered a 2 bowls of pho and downed it in 10 minutes. I'm not sure how authentic it is, it tasted very different than the pho I get in Toronto, but it was the best bowl of pho I've ever had. On top of that, they were only 6 euros each. It was the cheapest meal I had in Paris, but it was the best meal. It makes me sad that I won't be able to find something like this in Toronto. read more

I mean it was cheap and the ambience was nice and cozy. But I've had better pho elsewhere and didn't know what to make of it. Maybe that was because no artificial seasoning was used in making the broth. I thought the broth was a bit bland. Would I go back? Probably not. But I heard that many students like it. read more

Nice cozy atmosphere, reminded me of a family style of cooking. Had a great time food was authentic! Nice place to enjoy a afternoon meal.

Cheap food and drinks. Friendly old man who is in his 70s running the restaurant with his kids. Family owned and ran.

The pho isn't really authentic pho (tastes very Chinese) but the grandpa (owner, I assume) is really nice :)
