The cake is absolutely AMAZING!! To die for! My coworkers and I drop in weekly for slices of cake on our lunch to never be disappointed!

Everybody know's I love me some Cake so after a trip to the Cinema Hubby and I decided to hit up somewhere for our sweets craving, Le Gateau Elegant was in my Yelp bookmarks and not far away so it seemed the perfect place. The store is in a tiny little strip mall so it doesn't get a great deal of foot traffic and was empty with the exception of a couple doing a Cake tasting when we arrived. The cases are filled with all kinds of goodies - Cookies, Pastries, Petite Fours, Cake (whole and by the slice) as well as a few Cupcakes on the counter. Inside seating is really cute and almost like a Bakery you would find in Europe. It's choosing the right Chocolate that really makes the Eclair and both myself and my Husband felt that the wrong choice was made here. Less rich Chocolate-y, more chalky. I guess our snobby European tendencies towards American Chocolate is still strong. I fondly remember Le Gateau Elegant from their small specialty shop in Martinez. More than a decade ago, my co worker got me the BESTEST swedish princess cake and a chocolate kahlua cake for my 21st bday. Fast forward to present time, my friend who's an East Bay native asks me (yelp princess!) where to get the cutest cake for his wife's baby shower. I didn't hesitate to recommend La Gateau Elegant. Their red velvet cake is a knock out: buttery whipped icing on the cover, luscious layers of red velvet made richer with cream cheese filling. Decadent. Rich. Velvety. Again, No-one called so I had to call to make sure they got my order. They then told me that they couldn't do the cake because they need 48 hrs. Request. I told them that's why I had called the day before to make sure but they didn't care. How can you mess up a basic cupcake (vanilla and chocolate). Bought $14.00 dollars worth of cupcakes at $3.50 a piece. The vanilla cupcake cake- the cake was hard and dry maybe day old or frozen and not fresh. the chocolate cupcake was the same. Now, I didn't want some run of the mill Safeway cake, so decided to go for a new place called Le Gateau Elegant. My son, friend and I literally had a wedding taste test for my baby shower. After trying about 20 different kinds of cake and putting myself into a diabetic coma, I woke up and realized I'm living the ultimate dream... well, we all know that's instagram fakeness... but these cakes were the real deal. Review #024 - 2018 I've never actually been here, but my sister-in-law ordered a Swedish princess birthday cake for her son's first birthday and it was very pretty. The cake tasted good, but it was a little too sweet for my personal taste. My sister-in-law actually said that she bought a slice of it before they decided to order the whole cake and it was much better the first time they had it. I'm so impressed with the wedding cake Le Gateau Elegant made for my son's wedding this September !!! After calling many bakeries, I came here because of their competitive prices and stellar reviews. This was the first time I've had to purchase a wedding cake, so I was really lost as to what to do. The owner of the shop was so patient when we met with her to discuss size, style, and flavors. We even got a complimentary cake testing box to take home with about 25 flavors to choose from. We decided on a three-tier cake (14" / 10" / 7") which was the perfect size for about 200 people, and we chose Frangelico Truffle (bottom), Tiramisu (middle), and Chocolate Mousse (top). I'm not a big cake eater, but the Frangelico Truffle and Tiramisu was absolutely delicious. (I didn't have a chance to eat the Chocolate Mousse because the top layer was saved for the bride & groom). The frosting was light and creamy - so delicious that I had two pieces of each !!! Delivery to Oakland was perfect. i am so impressed with this cake shop! quite amazing that there's such a cute and nice little place like this in walnut creek. i submitted a form through their website with a description of what i wanted for my birthday cake and a link to my pinterest board, and then got on the phone with them to talk it through. they made sure they understood what i wanted, and they were able to make a custom fruit basket cake for me (i chose strawberries and raspberries as the fruit filling) which was absolutely delicious and a huge hit. the cake was ready early on the day of my event, and the kind girl at the front made sure it was securely wrapped and even carried it to the car for us. everyone was wowed by the gorgeous presentation and beautiful buttercream flowers, and the cake was so moist and fresh tasting. i told the shop staff we had 8 people and they suggested the second smallest size, which was about 8 inches? as it was a 4 layer cake, the final product ended up being quite huge and generous, enough for us to even share some with the kind wait staff at the restaurant we ate dinner at, and we still have almost half left over! amazingly the total was only 65 dollars, which is more than worth it for a big custom cake like this. i highly recommend this shop for any special event! just make sure you call them a few days or a week in advance and they should be able to accommodate your requests. and i really recommend the fruit basket cake if you don't like super sweet frosting - the whipped cream and fruit and light vanilla cake combo is just to die for. thank you so much for making my 30th birthday so special! it was just what i wanted :) read more

I ordered a cake for my graduation and put down a deposit. I showed them a picture of what I wanted and it was an extra $30-40 for the louboutin writing which was fine with me. I filled out the form and gave them all the info. When my dad came home with my cake I was angry and shocked because it was nothing like the cake I had ordered and shown them a picture of. My family and I have been customers since they were in Martinez and have ordered many cakes in the last 13 years. because they are so delicious but this was really a disappointment. After we called them and they offered to refund us half and then brushed us off so we had to go in to get the cake fixed, and then they delivered it and it was fine. But we did not anticipate having to return the cake and tell our guests to come later because of this mishap. It was the girl who took our order's fault because when we went back they had the screenshot of what I had originally wanted. Overall I'm bummed because their cakes are delicious but this whole ordeal could have been avoided if the girl had taken the order properly and the person decorating the cake would have confirmed what it was we wanted. So, someone told me if I like princess cake, I should check out this place because their princess cake is amazing -- well, that's word on the street. I think the best princess cake is from Ettores in Sacramento. So I come here on a weekday to buy a slice of princess cake. I easily missed this location, I think my GPS didn't route me to the right place. There's very limited parking, and this location is shared with a complex with George's (I think it's a burger place? I don't really know). I ordered a slice of princess cake to go, it's about $4.25. I've noticed princess cakes in the bay area is so expensive. I am about to pay with card until they tell me no card under $5. So bring cash! So I take a bite of this princess cake and to my disappointment, it's not that great. It just taste like a slice of cake. It's not as good as Ettore's princess cake. That bakery makes the best princess cake in the world. My son got a very special Chocolate birthday cake with a fish on top as a decoration. He got a new pet fish for his third birthday. Therefore his cake was fish decorated. But the stand out of the cake was the Butter Cream Frosting. The cake was also very fresh and moist. There have been some instances, from other local bakeries, that you can tell their cake was premade then frozen. It's so nasty. It makes me really not like cake. It was gorgeous. 3 tier white round cake adorned with beautiful purple roses. All three layers had different flavors and believe me it's one of those cakes you want seconds. So, when it came time for my sister-in-law's birthday. I couldn't go to just any standard bakery, because my sister-in-law makes and decorates cakes. Believe me; the owner of Le Gateau should hire her. Remembering my BFF wedding cake, I knew right away this was the place to go. I ordered their number one chocolate seller the Frangelico Mousse - "Alternating layers of chocolate and vanilla cakes brushed with Frangelico liqueur, filled with bittersweet chocolate mousse, iced with hazelnut buttercream and covered with chocolate ganache". Although I was unable to eat a slice of this cake, because it contained dairy and eggs, what I can tell you is it was a HIT!! Everyone loved it and could not stop talking about it. I was concerned if my nephew who is 13 would like it because it had liqueur. Surprisingly, he said "this cake taste awesome" *as he's licking the fork*. I also bought a slice of their number one seller the Swedish Princess and a Chocolate Decadence for them to try. Le Gateau offers cake slices, danish, cupcakes, cookies and other pastries. So you can grab a seat and enjoy your dessert with coffee inside their café. With that said, if a person who doesn't eat dairy or eggs is giving them a 5 star, then you need to try them out. I would rank this the BEST Bakery for Contra Costa County. I just wish in the future they offer baked goods for those who have dietary restrictions. I was a huge fan of Le Gateau Elegant when it was located in Martinez. I was somewhat surprised when I heard that they were moving to Walnut Creek, but at the same time Main Street Martinez does have its commercial limits. I stopped in today to look at the baked goods (the green Princess Cake and anything chocolate are favorites). I ended up buying some Easter cookies, a nice chocolate almond horn, and a scone. I was pleased with my stash, although this place is not cheap. But still, this is a special occasion place which is well worth the tasty indulgence. read more

I tried this place out when it used to be in Martinez (several times, my husband even ordered a birthday cake for me here). It has never really stood out to me. This time was no different. We ordered two cupcakes, one to share between myself and my husband, one for my son, a cake pop, and an amaretti (not sure if this is what they called this) to go. My husband often prefers baked items that are gluten free (not sure why?!) so we had the chocolate mint gluten free cupcake. It was good, but not great. I wasn't a huge fan of the frosting, which had a decent mint flavor but a weird consistency and after taste. It didn't taste like real butter cream. I suspect they used vegetable shortening. It was very smooth though and not too sweet. The cake part of the cupcake was OK. It was moist enough, but could have had more chocolate flavor. We liked it better than my son's normal chocolate cup cake though. Cake pop was OK too, but I've had much better both from my sister-in-law (who makes some of the best cupcakes and cake pops I've ever had) and from Tal's Patisserie. The kicker was that later that day, while I took the kids to the Danville library, my husband decided to buy some more cupcakes from Miglet's (it had been a while) just to see how they compared to Le Gateau. Upshot. If you want really good cupcakes (particularly gluten free) go to Miglet's and give the ones at Le Gateau a miss. The best thing by far from Le Gateau was the amaretti. This was a large almond horseshoe shaped cookie with the ends dipped in chocolate. This treat is definitely worth buying, but we were surprised by the consistency so it may not have really been an amaretti. Amaretti are made with almond paste, but are very light, like a macaroon. This was almost a marzipan consistency (not quite that heavy but close). Delicious, but very rich. We could have divided it into thirds and been satisfied. The chocolate did not add to the cookie at all (but it did look pretty). In sum, do not recommend the cupcakes. They do make pretty cakes here, but I haven't been super impressed with their flavor in the past (did not try the cakes this time though). I have liked various other of the smaller treats, including the almond horseshoe shaped cookie, whatever you want to call it. read more

I used to live in Concord, right down the street from Alpine bakery, but would drive to the old shop in Martinez for my princess cakes. Karen and team is an absolutely skilled bakery. Our family has used Le Gateau for 18 years starting with our wedding, when they were still in Martinez. We have had BEAUTIFUL LGE cakes for baby showers, birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions. Their attention to details, bring ideas to life, and the fondant work/colors are extraordinary. The frangelico mousse is exquisite. We've had the Swedish princess, lemon mousse, chocolate raspberry, and heath bar crunch have all been absolutely delicious. And then the decorations of the cakes have been epic. On the website pictures if you see a pirate themed cake, Karen made that for my son's 4th bday "jake and the never land pirate" party. It is stunning. This weekend she made a lovely fall and pumpkin themed cake for my mother in laws 75th bday. People RAVED about it. I was turned onto them when a girlfriend of mine had a "champagne cake" for her bridal shower. I have used them many times since then! See some of my pictures attached. A few days ago my husband and I finished his doctor appointment at the nearby Kaiser, and drove by this little bakery on our way home. We stopped in since it was our 3 year wedding anniversary and picked up a couple desserts to take home with us. I'm not much of a dessert person, but I like sweets in small amounts so I picked out a couple of raspberry petit fours (I bought two for us, and two extra ones that we took to my parents). We also picked out a custard filled éclair and a Neapolitan slice. My husband bought a croissant for breakfast and we boxed up the rest. The total was just over $20, which we thought was a lot but we weren't really surprised. After all, it is a little bakery in downtown Walnut Creek. Everything is a little bit more $$ around there. The hardest thing to find is a place that can make something beautiful, but also has substance. Le Gateau Elegant does both exceptionally well. I've purchased two orders from here: A Swedish Princess Cake and 3 dozen heath bar crunch cupcakes. The Swedish Princess cake is amazing. Filled with raspberry, custard, and vanilla cake, it's presented unlike any other cake around. One may find the green marzipan a bit overwhelming, as its density may prove to be too heavy for the layman, but the raspberry cuts the custards tartness, while the white cake acts as a bouyant mechanism to bring all of the flavors together. The heath bar cupcakes were fantastic. The challenge to me would be to make 36 cupcakes all taste great and equal in substance and weight, but honestly they were all uniform and delicious. The heath bar is genius, as it provides flavor but also texture to a dessert that I find can be too repetitive if done by an untrained cupcake-eur. Cupcake was moist (they offer either chocolate or vanilla and I chose the chocolate path), whipped cream was the frosting that bound the heath to the cake. The price may deter some, but if you want a quick pick-me-up if you're having a rough day, buy a $3.50 cupcake, as they have them at the ready daily. It will serve you well. read more
