It's located near Whole Foods in a strip mall or sort - parking in the back was pretty tight and hard to find on a Friday afternoon. I was to get a sampler so got the red velvet, sweet princess, champagne, Black Forest, and lemon bar. My favorite was hands down the red velvet. Not too sweet and very moist. The sweet princess was recommended as a customer favorite was it was very wet (maybe too much simple syrup?) and sweet. The champagne reminded me of the Madonna Inn cakes. We hired Le Gateau Elegant to provide the cake for our wedding. They did a wonderful job! We worked with Jackie. Jackie was so patient and supportive throughout the entire process -- she always provided detailed and thorough answers to all my questions. She made it easy to determine how many tiers and sheets of cake we needed to serve the size of our wedding. The cake also turned out more beautiful than I could have ever imagined -- we wanted a floral design to decorate our cake, and it was stunning! And most importantly, the cake was delicious. I was so pleased with my wedding cake from them! First of all, they came highly recommended by my wedding venue. However, to be honest, I was thinking of using another pastry shop and reached out to several others as well. Most of them either required me to schedule to come and get samples on days and hours that weren't convenient for me or they weren't available for my wedding date. However, Le Gateau Elegant was not only available for my wedding date but I was able to pickup up samples from them at a convenient date/time. What sealed the deal for me, however, was when I came to pickup the samples. Not only was the sample box huge, but it was free!! I couldn't believe it, as most of the places, including the one that I had thought of using, were charging for just a few samples and it wasn't a small fee either. I then tasted the samples and I was sold! I ended up choosing the Swedish Princess cake, which I believe is one of their most popular flavors, but they were really all good so it was hard to decide! They were also very accommodating when I asked them to use buttercream instead of what they usually use for it which contains almond paste, I believe, as one of my guests has a severe nut allergy and I didn't want want to take any chances. Best of all, I showed them a picture of the cake design that I wanted and they made it exactly the way I wanted it. I recommend using this place for any special occasion, but especially weddings! Since my last review, I have been here a few more times. While I give the coffee crunch cupcake a 5/5. The other items are not as good. That being said, it is still one of the best bakeries in the area as the other options are pretty mediocre. Here are some of the other items I've tried: Toffee cupcake (4/5) - a little too sweet Salted caramel cupcake (3.5/5) - basic flavor for frosting and cake Their cupcakes are kind of small but always moist. My friend always gets her birthday and wedding anniversary cakes here. The Swedish Princess cake is her absolute favorite. I tried it once and it was memorable so I decided to come here to buy my husband a cake for Father's Day. We don't exchange gifts. Only greeting cards and cakes! I arrived the Saturday before because we had breakfast plans for Father's Day and the cake was going to be dessert afterwards. Parking is limited but if you come early, you won't have a problem. Le Gateau is located at the Terrace Shops (small strip mall) near Kaiser. If you're coming from Main Street, once you turn left on Newell Ave., it's the first driveway on your right so don't blink. Le Gateau is a cute bakery with pink floral accented walls throughout with a few tables inside to enjoy a cup of coffee and a pastry. They offer pies, cookies, cupcakes, macarons, and ready made cakes. They are also well known for their stunning wedding cakes and customizable birthday cakes. The young sweet lady at the counter was very friendly and patient as I was searching for the perfect cake. Since the cakes weren't labeled, she explained each cake to me. I finally chose the Chocolate Mousse cake which had sweet cream filled chocolate layers and this decadent dark chocolate ganache icing. We all thought it was absolutely delicious. The 6 inch cake was small but mighty. We probably got at least 8 healthy servings from it. The Kahlua Truffle also caught my eye, so I bought a slice to sample. Whoa! Stop it! It was also scrumptious. The chocolate truffle filling with the perfect amount of Kahlua liqueur and the fresh mocha whipped cream was extraordinary. Rich and light at the same time with the sweet-tart apricot preserves. The combination of flavors was on point. Ordered a princess birthday cake and left badly disappointed with the amount of sugar in the cake. The jam tasted like store bought overly sweetened jam with artificial flavor. The sponges were soaked in sugar syrup when the marzipan and whip cream were already overly sweet. Guests couldn't eat more than one spoon due to the lingering sweetness. The staff was super nice and sweet, so the 2 stars are for them. I wish they modify the recipe and make it less sweet because it is European dessert and not an American dessert that is usually loaded with unnecessary sugar. read more

I've been ordering here for the last 7 years, from wedding cakes to birthday cakes. I placed an order two days ago for a pink princess cake. Today, I went to pick it up, and it was a green cake with pink writing. So I told them that's not what I paid for. She responded by showing me the order slip: "Pink cake," "Happy birthday." Then she said the pink cake would be an extra charge and wouldn't be ready for another 4 hours. I told them I had to go to work and couldn't pick it up later. At no point did they try to make things right for their mistake; they were more concerned about charging extra. Normally, I don't write bad reviews, but this is the second wrong order in the last three years. I will dispute this charge and find a different place. We ordered our wedding cake from Le Gateau Elegant and were so so happy with the final product! Our tasting was during the summer of 2020, so we were not able to do an in-house tasting. Instead, they put together a to-go box for us with small squares of about 2 dozen different flavors. It was incredibly hard to choose our flavors - everything tasted so good! We ended up with a 3 tiered cake - the top tier was a chocolate cake with hazelnut filling, the second tier was a Kier-soaked white cake with a champagne custard filling, and the third tier was a vanilla cake with a lemon curd and blueberry jam filling. Every layer was so delicious and our guests were SO happy - they still talk about how good our cake was over a month later! The design was simple, but very elegant. My BFF has been planning her wedding for awhile and was looking into wedding cake places and have been finding taste testing places since 2019, due to COVID she has had to postpone her wedding. She luckily found Le Gateau Elegant via Yelp so I had to write a review! I've been around for some of her cake tastings, it was so easy for her to set up, and due to covid they had slices and flavors available after planned in advance and she just got to pick them up and try. I don't remember the flavors but I do remember how good all of the chocolate ones were! Since their wedding is postponed, a couple of friends wanted to celebrate their original date and decided to get a cake in honor of the original date with one of the flavors that they chose. Which was the Frangelico Truffle. It was a very rich, sweet, chocolate, hazelnut cake with frangelico and a ganache frosting. I wish I had taken a photo of the slice to show many layers of the cake were there. But I do know once I got to the end I felt like I needed a glass of milk or some water because of how rich it was. From appearance we thought it was a fondant cake but it was chocolate ganache. The presentation was also amazing too! They loved the surprise. Ordering was easy and so was pick up, the order was placed earlier in the week to get by Friday, and they said it's ok to leave at room temperature about 2 hours before serving. The shop is located off a busy street with a small parking lot in front of it, they also sell ready made treats and cupcakes of the flavors as well. Such was the case with our only child's 1st when we opted for his favorite book as a theme....Pout-Pout Fish! The home was decorated in the book's theme and the finale was to be a custom, spare-no-expense cake from none other than Le Gateau Elegant. The day I went in to order the cake, I gulped as the lackadaisical girl behind the counter proceed to recite the pricing with additional add-on fees for such luxury items as fruit and creating an image, bringing the small cake's price to well over $100.00! Well, I figured, it's a splurge we will only do once. I explained the theme to the girl and even brought in the book so they would get it right. For those unfamiliar with this wonderful book, the "Pout-Pout, Fish" turns into a happy and sweet "Kiss-Kiss, Fish" once he is shown love. I couldn't have been more explicit when I explained that the cake's image MUST be of the HAPPY FISH, opening the book to that page and showing her. Afterall, who would want a sad fish on their birthday cake! I even left the book with them to make sure there were no mistakes. I prepaid for the cake and turned to leave...and then, sensing the girl's lackluster attitude and apparent lack of attentiveness, I stopped at the door and turned back to her saying, "remember...the happy fish, not the sad fish." "Sure...got it," she replied. Several days later, the attached picture is the cake I received one hour before his birthday. When I incredulously pointed out the blunder, their response was, "Oh...sorry 'bout that." Absolutely no attempt was made to make amends. With my child's birthday party beginning shortly and not having the time to further express my extreme dissatisfaction and frustration, I simply turned around numb and left with the sad cake. My wife attempted "smile surgery" on the fish which was the best we could do to salvage the debacle. Needless to say, we will never return to this very high priced bakery. Karen was so sweet, professional, easy to work with, and responsive to all of my questions. We sent her a few pictures of cakes that we thought were pretty, and she gave us estimates on price and made some suggestions on how to balance aesthetics and our budget. Karen gave us a complimentary tasting box with 16 flavors, 2 substantial pieces of each, which was so much fun trying with our parents. We ended up choosing a 3-tier tiramisu cake with buttercream frosting, which was supplemented by a sheet cake. Second, try the chocolate kaulua cake. The flavors are delightful. If you buy a few slices from this place, they will gladly pack them in a box. The box is great as a gift as it packed very presentably. Since they don't have every type of cake everyday, I recommend calling a day or two ahead and they can always accommodate special requests. Beautiful to look at, a work of art, and quite simply delicious to eat. Two layers of sponge cake, with raspberry jam, vanilla custard, whipped cream, and covered with a layer of green marzipan, adorned with little pink roses and white pearls. Found this bakery (I'm new to CoCo county) after eating at George's burgers which is a few doors down. Was craving something sweet so had to check this bakery out. Immediately welcomed with a smile by the ladies at the counter, and saw the lovely array of cakes, macarons, cookies and more! I opted for the princess cake (it's one of my favs) since I had one recently from another bakery in Concord that was lack luster. They have two kinds, the original, raspberry/ pastry cream, and lemon/pastry cream. I've never seen/ tried a lemon version so I was intrigued. Ordered both plus an eclair and a vanilla macaron. Their cake was definitely better than the other bakery. Not quite as delicious as my all time favorite bakery in SF, nonetheless, it was satisfying. I just prefer an equal amount of raspberry/ pastry cream. The lemon one was great! The custard filled eclair was okay, I've had better but it was a solid 3 stars. My daughter said the macaron was good too. I will definitely come back when I have another princess cake craving, the lemon one might be my new fav! read more

After hearing many comments on various local FB groups to support local restaurants/food establishments, I had to give this place a try. I was especially excited to see that they sell the Blum Crunch Cake (they call it Coffee Crunch Cake) and they have a cupcake version. It's one of my favorite cakes and I thought that not having to drive to SF to get my fix was promising. It was pretty good and the frosting is almost meringue like. The coffee crunch pieces were yummy but I don't believe it was made that day because I could tell that the pieces were getting more "chewy". The white cake was a little dry, again probably not made that day. At the price of $3.50, it's very reasonable. The meringue cookie and the butter cookie were NOT worth it. I literally gave my son a bite of the pretty mitten styled butter cookie and he passed on the rest and told me it wasn't good. That cookie cost $7 and I tried a bite too - I agreed with my 12 year old and I was a bit pissed. It was hard and dry, both the cookie and the frosting. The meringue cookie was really pretty and tasted fine but $3.50 for it is much more than other bakeries. I question the freshness of this place. I decided to go back to this place because the apricot princess dessert was calling me. I also ordered a Swedish princess this time, which is the same dessert but with raspberry filling, and I also ordered a chocolate mousse roll and a chateau something-or-other cake with what appeared to be coffee and raspberry buttercream fillings. I love that they use marzipan instead of fondant to cover the cakes--I thought it would be too sickly sweet, but it is surprisingly superb and the right balance of sweetness and texture. Also their cream fillings are beautiful, no crisco nastiness at all--just cream and butter as far as my taste buds can tell! All were absolutely delicious and clearly made from scratch. They go for $4.95 each, which I think is a very reasonable price for the quality of the cake. Based on how nice their cakes are, I can't understand why their cupcakes taste so bad (and why they use crisco for their "butter"cream topping). So, get the cakes but avoid the cupcakes would be my advice for anyone wanting to visit this place. Anyway, I had to update my rating because I couldn't in good faith leave a two-star review for a shop that makes a beautiful product.
