As an American in Paris, this place really tested my patience. The service is slow and they check on you maybe every twenty minutes or so. With that said, it's still a very beautiful Parisian café. We had reservations and was seated on the interior but seemed to be covered patio which was a bit cold every time someone opened the door we could feel the draft. Menu had good selection of the bistro favorites and seafood options. We sat around 10 minutes before we got the menu. Our server was friendly and fast but the restaurant was either busy or they are understaffed. We ordered the salmon tartare, french onion soup, French Dover sole menieure, cod fish entree, and mussels. The salmon tartare was delicious and tasted really fresh. The French b onion soups took a long time apparently they over cooked it and had to start again. It tasted rather bland and overly cheesy. Cod fish and Dover sole standard cook not a lot of seasoning. Mussels also could've used some more flavour. We were too full to try dessert. Headline: most disappointing meal in all of France on my four different visits. After spending so much time on the itinerary for the rest of our 10 days, I thought I'd let our pricey high end hotel make a recommendation for dinner nearby. Astonishingly, the inexperienced front desk staff booked us here. Will they be getting a earful tomorrow. First impressions were really positive-a guy preparing lots of fresh seafood in the window and a great table in a bay window upstairs away from the hubbub. We visited on a holiday (May1) so maybe they were short staffed but I'm thinking our waiter was either lacking in training or a bus not pressed into service. The first clue things were rocky was the 15 min wait to see a waiter and get menus despite the place being less than half full. Once he took our orders, he came back with the water and wine fairly promptly. Next clue was the bread-this is France, EVERYWHERE has good bread-except here. This was all dried out and had likely been sitting around for awhile. My wife's sea bass was decent but my lobster pasta was very poor with a cold half crustacean plotted on top of pasta and Ragu. THE LOBSTER WAS TOUGH, cold and flavorless. Oh, did I mention the burritos starter arrived AFTER the main courses? (also just ok). Also tools to crack open the lobster claw arrived 10 minutes after the mains. What a sh*t show. The two half bottles of wine were the highlight. We skipped dessert after sending back out half-eaten meals as there was really no point in doubling down on a place serving crummy food. The inexperienced waiter didn't know what to do when he asked when I requested the check "how was everything " and I replied I really didn't like my food. We had a good time. Checking in was quick and only took a few minutes. Fun decor upstairs and a nice table for two by a window. We enjoyed the slower paced dining experience personally because we rush around in our daily lives. I had the deviled eggs and oysters from Brittany. My husband planned an amazing anniversary trip and researched each restaurant for reservations. He used Google. In this case, Google gave it a 4.2; however, that was not our experience. We were seated very close to another couple having a business conversation (every word of which we heard) despite reservations made weeks in advance, two tables at the window which were available and we requested. So far as we could see, they were never occupied. Seating isn't the end of the world, but things just continued to be modest and perhaps even below average. We had to request the salt and pepper, the pepper was empty. My eggplant was hot on the outside and cold on the inside. The replacement wasn't hot on the outside and was still cold on the outside - I just ate it this time. My husband's dinner was fine, not exceptional - he said the Bearnaise sauce was too thick and it tasted packaged. We felt rushed the whole time - we ended up taking the remainder of our wine back to our hotel. Bottom line, the food seemed more institutional than made to order and we didn't feel appreciated. Wonderful pre-theater dinner right around the corner from Opéra Garnier. We were seated right away on the outdoor terrace and they had no problem getting us in and out in an hour (no small ask in Paris!) to get to the show on time. The food was phenomenal. My steak tartare topped with an organic egg and the fries it came with were absolutely perfect. My mom got the 19.50 euro prix fixe, which consisted of the world's most delicious pumpkin soup and a generous serving of daurade atop a bed of spinach. I'm only sad we didn't have time for dessert! This is also one of the rare restaurants in Paris that has full wheelchair access, including a ground floor toilet with a grab bar. read more

They had a good deal called "The Parisian," which came with a choice of hot beverage, orange juice, yogurt with muesli, a basket of bread, and a croissant. Then I got the ham omelet, which is just an egg topped with Iberico ham, but between my bf and I, that was enough to get our day started. I was DO disappointed! I have been to Le Grand Cafe Capucines a few times over the years and something has definitely changed. I ordered the Ravioli DU DAUPHINÉ and the pasta wasn't cooked through. It was gummy and not good! The Caesar Salad was mayonnaise filled and seemed like a bad Diner Salad (at over 20$!) I asked for the cheese course and was told there's only one cheese and by the look on the waiter's face made me not want to order it. My dessert OPÉRA DU GRAND CAFÉ was made with such dark chocolate, it seemed without sugar & bitter. I know they were very busy but it took a while to get my check and I paid with a credit card that only gave me the choice to tip 5-15% or I couldn't close the screen to finish to pay. No one helped pull my table out to leave so I had to maneuver my way out by myself. It's sad but this institution which once was a reliable food choice for service & quality is no more. One of the best, if not the best, pumpkin soup/cream ever. It's made with chestnut cream and other unbelievable delicious ingredients. The onion soup and risotto were also a 'divine' discovery. It's open 24/7 seven days a week, so if you are ever stuck for a place to go on a Sunday, this is a safe bet for decent food if you are starving and your flight just landed at midnight. The interior is classically art deco and it's been renovated, so it looks a bit fresher. I've been coming here almost as long as I've been coming to Paris. It's not my favorite restaurant, but I come just to soak in the atmosphere. The food is not spectacular, but it is good, and the prices are reasonable, with menus of two courses for less than 25 Euros ($30 US). The gazpacho with espelette pepper was a refreshingly cool way to whet our appetites, with a touch of heat from the pepper that gave the soup a nice zing. I could have had two bowls of this with some baguette and been perfectly happy. I chose a rose colored trout over couscous which had accents of apricots, green onions, pine nuts, and raisins in a buerre blanc sauce. I found the accompaniments a bit sweet and the sauce a bit lackluster, but the fish was good and service was excellent. We walked in without a reservation, but if you are eating during regular Parisian meal times or want to sit on the patio during a sunny day, it's best to reserve either online or with a phone call. read more

After a long day of running around the city and realizing I hadn't eaten all day, I decided to start browsing menus as I walked by restaurants. I ended up settling on Le Grand Cafe simply due to the menu and the fact it seemed to have a decent amount of people inside. Upon entry, I was given a chance to check my coat and was given a great table facing the sidewalk (great for people watching). I went with the express menu which offers an entree and main course for $22.99e or entree, main course, and dessert for 29.99e with two choices for each item. I went with the cauliflower soup to start which was pretty good. My main course was veal with potatoes; about 1/2 of my veal seemed undercooked and bright red. I opted to go with the escargot and french onion soup, Escargot was pretty good and enjoyable that I actually forgot I was devouring snails. The bread served was stale. The french onion soup on the other hand was gross. I know in France it's a cheese lover's paradise, but I really don't enjoy when my soup is 2/3 cheese and 1/3 soup. My mother wanted to try this place since it was near our hotel and because she was craving seafood. For our dinner we ordered 5 items: 1) Buttered Mussels - The mussels they gave us were huge and perfectly cooked. When they brought the dish out, the buttery sauce was still bubbling. So good! 2) Escargot - The snails were perfectly matched with the pesto like sauce. Wished I had order more of these. 3) Foei Gras - You get a giant slab of duck foie gras. The foie gras itself was very good; rich, buttery, and creamy. 4) Vegetable Gazpacho - I'm not a veggie person so I did not like this dish that much. For those who do not know what a gaspazho is, it is basically a cold tomato soup. 5) Lamb - The most tender and juiciest roasted lamb I have ever eaten. A must-order. The waiters here are awesome. The flamboyant waiters that I had were constantly smiling and making jokes with us. I can honestly say that they made the whole dinner a 5 star experience. No vegan or even a vegetarian option. I came here at 4am ish, and they were "set up for dinner". I asked to stay for drinks only because I was making time for me flight that was at 7am. They said I had to have dinner in order to stay. I then stayed and then noticed there are no vegan options. Just a salad with stale bread. All tasty and full of flavor. - 5 star - Bread - Nice, baguettes and sticks of butter. Doesn't get better than this. - Steak Tartare - No better way to finish off the seafood than to have some tartare. It was pleasantly spicy, full of flavor, great consistency and overall just melted in my mouth. - Bugs Bunny - My colleague had Saddle of Rabbit and that looked really good too.
