Simply everything you could from a Parisian bistro. The food and ambiance are sublime. The service is professional but slightly guff, but that is also part of the ambiance. Great experience.

    Steak was really good

Let's say it's a 3.5 the Goods: 1. Escargot - as expected. 2. Foie Gras Meatball 3. Fries - stringshoe fries very good 4. Steak - very good the not-so-good: 1. Celery Salad - so weird. very creamy 2. Scotch Egg - basic. probably is our fault to even order this. 3. Chicken Soup (for 2) - such a big bowl of soup thats like wth.... 4. Salmon - thin slice of salmon. I dont think they know how to cook fish. 5. Bass - I dont think they know how to cook fish. 5. Flambee Crepe - tasted like gasoline after the show. the Okayed: 1. Foie Gras Pate - good from a can 2. French Onion Soup - flavor is good but barely any onion. 3. Beef in Mashed Potato Bake - okay

Parisian Eats Finding a quality French bistro proved to be a harder proposition than expected as Paris seems filled with crowded, mediocre tourist traps Our first two meals at Fuxia and Au Pied du Cochon were beyond disappointing as cold entrees, reheated French fries and bland flavors dominated the meal Our last meal in Paris was at La Poule Au Pot, a Michelin guide recommended restaurant, and one that is a stones throw away from Au Pied du Cochon It's a popular tourist spot as well and recommended by many hotels with Americans throughout our seating Thankfully, the food is excellent and all our classics of French food were delicious The price point is a tad higher but given the delicious food, friendly service and decor, it was exactly what we needed to finish our Paris leg: Bon appétit! Os A Moelle €24 ~ croque au sel /Escargots En Coquille €28 ~ beurre d'escargot les 12 / Terrine de Foie Gras €32 ~ gelée de Porto / Gratinée A L'Oignon des Halles €17 / Tartare de Bouef €38 ~ préparé à votre table, frites / Steak Flambé €44 ~ au sautoir, sauce au poivre / Crepes Mademoiselle €24 La Poule Au Pot (Paris, France)

One of the best meals I've had in Paris. We started with the Os a moelle that was accompanied by some crème fraîche, absolutely fantastic! The flambé was magnificent and the service was world class.

La Poule au Pot made our last night in Paris really something special. Sitting in the center of Paris since 1945 in a quiet neighborhood made up of small Cafes and Bars, it gave us a great feeling when we walked in. A beautiful dining room, white table clothes and sparkling wine and water glasses, I knew right off my Yelp Collection list, someone hit this on the nose for a great recommendation. After I took a glance at the menu and HUGE French Wine collection, I knew it for sure. It gave us superb French menu choices all in French with a friendly and funny server that fooled us into the fact he did not speak English, but he actually did and was able to give us great recommendations from start to finish. He had a great sense of humor and spotted us as Americans, which I am sure he was used to. Therefore when he started to laugh as he rattled off "the Filet" "Frog Legs", etc, he knew he was playing with us in a good way. Pretty funny and not typical of what some people think of the French attitude towards visitors who do not speak French. In fact so many places were great to us and tried to communicate in some form of English. My wife and I both love the Escargot in Paris and we also checked to make sure they served it here. In fact after we got into the whole menu with our server, we knew this may become a feast. We did not care, it was our last night. The Escargot was served with a small bowl of the soft part of the inside of the baked rolls, just for dipping. This was besides the basket of rolls we always get. So, after opening up a great bottle of Bordeaux from the Medoc region of France, we of course ordered the Escargot. Twelve large ones in a nice garlic butter with a pesto I have to believe. Delicious. We also tried the Frog Leg Appetizer, not much meat on Frog Legs, but certainly succulent off the bones. A true delicacy and whatever seasonings they cooked these with in light sauce I'd wish there was more meat on the bone. The salad my wife ordered was huge and we split that as well. We had to order our entree's with the appetizers to give the kitchen time to prepare, but in no way were we rushed in to eating the main courses. Such a relaxing time and very timely service. My wife ordered the Filet Mignon, which came in a brown sauce that the server spooned over the meat. This Filet had the tenderness and more flavor than most Filet I ordered the Sweet Bread, which is a meat delicacy, in this case beef. Never had it before, but this was the most tender and flavorful meat I've ever had cooked in a restaurant. Halfway through our meal, our server came over with a pile of French Fries, White Rice and Mashed Potatoes. Not expected, but French Fries and especially mashed potatoes are very popular side dishes. Tried them both and one spoonful of the rice. Perfection, especially those fries. It all sounds like a whole lot of food, and it was, but we sat for a good 2 hours over that bottle of wine and loved this just for the atmosphere itself. Never felt overwhelmed or "stuffed". Just lay low on the carb side dishes. Whoever recommended this to me, please come forward so I can thank you. This is a Paris traditional experience and they must be doing it right for locals as well as tourists from all over the globe since 1945.

    Tartare de bœuf

I just ate the best of tartare de bœuf here. The server mixed all the ingredients in front of us like a food artist. Very recommended! https://youtu.be/6quq7hm0ItE

Our experience was excellent. The food was terrific. Tasty and just perfect. Cute little space with an impressive wine collection. Why 4 stars then? I couldn't get over the fact that in the end it was a tourist trap. Literally not a single French person in the place the night we were there. The prices reflected that too. That said service, food all fantastic.

Our server Alexander and bartender Junior were excellent all night, we came in late on a Thursday night and were welcomed in and felt right at home. The Service only got better from there.. The attention you receive is fantastic and not over bearing. 10/10 We got the escargot, bone marrow, goat cheese crostini, onion soup and steak tartare. As an avid foodie from New York, the food was a 10/10. This place happens to be open until 5am by the way.. so we stayed for 3 hours and enjoyed every bit of it!

This restaurant is WONDERFUL! The best duck confit and foie gras I've had yet. And the service was very friendly -- very patient when dealing with us Americans bumbling over the bill! DUCK CONFIT: The duck leg is not a huge piece, but it surprisingly filled me up. It comes with potatoes and whole pieces of roasted garlic. So heavenly. FOIE GRAS: The house-made foie gras will not disappoint. It's so smooth and melts in your mouth... try each bite with a cube of their jelly! ESCARGOT: Very good! I only had one piece of my friend's, but it was buttery and fresh. It was one of the best restaurants during our visit. I can't believe they're open until 5am. I really regret not coming here for a second dinner!

Based on the past couple of months I was beginning to worry that I was doomed to dining mediocrity. Good news - my 4 or less star streak is broken. From the start, there is something special about a place which, with a full staff, serves such cuisine until 4 AM. Its not like, "Yeah, its late but come on in and we scrounge up something from the leftovers - how about a sandwich?" No, it's a full menu of French goodness (i.e. Filet de Boeuff with foie gras). I arrived late into town - past 11PM, met a friend and we stopped in. The restaurant was half full and for the next hour and a half people kept coming in. I hadn't eaten all day and apparently my body was telling me: "Your back in Paris so catch up not only on calories, but also on all the gastronomical / cholesterol delights of the region." My meal consisted of brazed pork cheeks, shirred eggs and foie gras and last but not least, duck leg cooked in its fat (served with roasted garlic and potatoes). I skipped the desert which, based on surrounding tables, looked outrageous both in presentation and calories.Colin had the veal kindeys with mustard sauce, which I assume is a Scotish thing. Spot on service and a spectacular meal. From here a 5 minute walk to my accommodation and my first sound sleep in almost a week.

Food: Good. Ordered Les oeufs cocotte au foie gras (eggs cooked in cream with foie gras...cocotte is the name of the ramkein bowl) and le filet de boeuf au poivre (beef filet with pepper sauce). Both were excellent. Would have licked the bow and plate afterwards. Would definitely go back. Also ate at a Michelin restarant. Food at La Poule au Pot was better. Service: Excellent. Linen tableclothes and napkins. Free Poire William afterwards. Atmosphere: French style bistrot.

The richness of the flavor and the texture which is not reminiscent of the traditional roasted duck or foie gras, but rather a much more like a luxurious and indulgent version. We enjoyed our dinner on the outside of the restaurant after about a 20-30 minute wait. The bone marrow had the best flavor I've experienced for the dish. However, it is definitely overshadowed by the rich flavor of the foie gras. This experience was unforgettable, with our view of Parisian streets on a brisk, April night. We even came back on our last night, but didn't realize the hours on Google maps was for the deli. The restaurant closes earlier, before 9:00 PM. This meal got us thinking about Paris in a positive light, and we hope to be able to come back to eat the amazing dishes again!

They had a number of goods to choose from and I ended up buying a few things for souvenirs. As for the actual restaurant, they had a number of delicious sounding items on their menu. Our server was very attentive to us and helped us decide on our dinner orders. Similar to the other restaurants though. After our food was delivered, it was far in between when we were checked on again. And after dessert it took even longer for our server to bring the bill. Overall, the food was a letdown. I do not exaggerate when I say that the frog legs just tasted like slightly flavored water. My friend's ravioli had a fairly decent flavored sauce but the pasta was a bit chewy. My friend's duck breast was pretty tough; I had noticed the table next to us also ordered it and they seemed to have trouble finishing/cutting theirs as well. As for my steak with foie gras, well the steak was once again tough and the foie gras was weirdly stringy. It was soft for the most part but there were parts that were tough and stringy. Maybe that's a section that's generally separated in the preparation process and it was missed? In any case it was disappointing. What wasn't disappointing was dessert though; perfectly sweet and balanced.

On the other hand, it made me realize that my mother was a terrible cook. Bistro des Augustins is a small, cozy venue offering both indoor seating and terrace seating near Pont Neuf. It serves a small number of curated dishes, including a wonderfully traditional Bistro Gratin in a homey ceramic dish served piping hot with a brown crispy cheesy top, herbs, spices and chicken. You can also get it with salmon. My brothers and I only saw my mother use our gas range to light her cigarettes, sanitize needles to remove our splinters, and make s'mores during the summer months when she couldn't muster the energy to take us 'outside camping.' I mean, all she had to do was borrow a cookbook, which I'm sure were readily available from maybe a neighbor or in any local bookstore or the public library. How hard is that? I was the only kid who brought a can of tuna and his own monogrammed can opener to school every day. Every day. And mom convinced me that the tuna holster she got me for my birthday was cool and hip. I was a naive mercury-filled fool, although I did become a very fast runner in junior high school because of the tuna holster. The interior décor of Bistro des Augustins is informal and vintage bistro style - wooden tables, traditional chalkboard menus, and soft lighting - creating a relaxed and comfy ambiance. My eyes have been opened to what's possible. Thank you Bistro des Augustins for expanding my culinary horizons. Five stars.

The menu is entirely in French which, honestly, makes the experience better. You stop ordering with certainty and start ordering with curiosity. My wife had the risotto d'épeautre aux St. Jacques. I ordered the Magret de Canard au Romarin. The duck was solid. A 3.5/5 kind of dish. Rich, savory, comforting after a long day walking through the city. But the risotto surprised me more. The scallops were delicate, the spelt added this earthy texture that made the dish feel substantial without ever becoming heavy. And then there's the mousse au chocolat. The famous one. Served from an oversized bowl with this almost excessive "all you can eat" energy that somehow still feels elegant instead of gimmicky. We only needed a few bites. Soft, luxurious, lightly bitter chocolate balanced perfectly against just enough sweetness. The kind of dessert that doesn't ask for attention. It quietly earns it.
