I have come across very few places that hit the mark, and this one definitely did. I could have cared less what else was on the menu, I walked up, ordered the fish and chips, paid, and had them in my hands in no time flat. Truly, I ordered and before the payment processed I had food in hand. Service was definitely the fastest I have had just about anywhere. After finding a seat I was able to dig in. "The Governor's" Fish & Chips, as the menu officially names it, is a gigantic piece of Atlantic cod. Expertly battered and fried to a crip. Each bite was crunchy with that flaky cod inside. Pairing it with the tartar sauce for every single bite, you will keep going until this disappeared. Their chips, more like potato wedges, are triple cooked. Extremely crispy, the ketchup is a nice addition, never was a malt vinegar person. I was definitely full and shared some of this with my colleague as so none of this would go to waste. The only thing that I did not like were the Mushy Peas. I know, the name says it all, but they could have let that little cup of those watery, bland peas off the plate. This was by far the most delicious lunches I have had in a long time.

I can on a Sunday afternoon, and the market was buzzing, but there wasn't anyone in line for this place. I got "The Governor's" Fish & Chips. It comes with "mushy peas". I asked what that was, and the gentleman literally showed me a can of green peas. So I politely asked for no peas, just an extra tartar sauce instead. My wait was only about 10 minutes and my food came out piping hot! The fish was crispy, flaky and delicious. The chips were more like potato wedges, just not as crispy, but they give you a generous portion!! The tartar sauce!??? 10/10...one of the best tartar sauces I've had. It paired perfectly with the fish, and I'm glad I had two. The meal also comes with a lemon wedge and packets of malt vinegar, which I absolutely used. And if you like hot sauce on your fish like i do, ask for packets of their "spicy sauce". Overall, a great first experience. And well worth the $19 it's priced at. Downside: Union Market has NO A/C. It was sooo hot in there, everyone was walking around sweating. My food would've been 10x better if I could've eaten comfortably.

The owners were incredibly kind, welcoming, and genuinely made us feel like family. The food was absolutely amazing--everything was perfectly cooked, seasoned so well, and full of flavor. Every bite was delicious! I honestly give the food a 10/10. Between the outstanding customer service, warm atmosphere, and incredible food, this was an experience I'll remember. Thank you for making my first visit such a wonderful one. I will definitely be coming back, and I highly recommend Celtic House to anyone looking for great food and even better people. Cillian was such a great server as well! Very kind and attentive knows everything about the menu and even suggested some amazing entrees and appetizers

The drinks are a good price and they stock classic British pub favourites from Magners Apple on tap to a large variety of Irish whiskey. The food is very reminiscent of british pub food. The fish a chips are good considering they don't have the typical British chippy oil. We also had the batter sausages. Of course nothing will compare to English chippy battered sausages in size and taste but these one were still good and reminded me of home! The servers were wonderful and kind! The atmosphere was very similar to a typical British pub. My husband and I really enjoyed ourselves! If you're a long way from home, this place will make you feel like you're back at your local pub!

Jeeeeeeeezus... how did we not plan this better? So a…read morecouple of friends and I spent the day doing the full tourist thing at the Smithsonian National Zoo - walking miles, chasing pandas, melting in the sun - and by the end of it we were DONE. Hungry, tired, slightly delirious. We just needed somewhere close to sit, eat, and recover like normal humans again. Literally crossed the street and landed at Duke's Counter... and wow, what a save. First off, the vibe hits immediately. It's got that lively, slightly chaotic energy (in a good way), like everyone there just escaped the zoo too and is ready to refuel. We grabbed a table outside for people-watching, and honestly, that alone was part of the experience. Food?? Let me just say this: if you're even thinking about getting the burger... stop thinking and just do it. I got the Proper Burger and it was one of those meals where you go quiet after the first bite because your brain is trying to process what just happened. Juicy, messy, flavorful in every bite--no notes. You can tell they take that "best burger in DC" claim very seriously. We also ordered the elote to start, which was exactly what we needed after sweating all day--salty, creamy, a little tangy, just hitting all the right spots. One of my friends got a sandwich (I think it was the Cubano situation) and it was HUGE. Like, borderline "should we have shared this?" huge. Only minor thing--the fries were fine. Not bad, just not on the same level as everything else. But honestly, when the burger is that good, I'm not losing sleep over fries. Service was friendly, even with how packed it got. You can tell they deal with zoo crowds all the time, so they keep things moving without making you feel rushed. Random side note: after we got back and were still in "treat yourself" mode, we ended up ordering from Pressure Deliveries--clutch move to keep the chill vibes going after a long day out. Highly recommend pairing the two experiences if you're making a full day of it. Overall, this place felt like exactly what we needed without even planning it. Great food, fun energy, perfect location if you're doing the zoo or just exploring the city. Would I come back? 100%. Would I walk another 5 miles at the zoo just to justify eating that burger again? ...also yes

Server came by, not so much as a greeting or introduction, just a short, "do you know what you want?" Fine - no problem. We ordered two avocado toasts and side of fries to share. Now, the menu clearly says the avocado toasts are served with a "runny egg". Ok sure, no problem. What i did not anticipate was a half raw egg with the yolk swimming in a sea of translucent completely uncooked "whites". It was like a golden disc encased in a snot rocket. Ok, maybe that's their "runny". Slide it off the toast and press on - snail trail of mucus be damned. The avocado spread was great - bright, citrusy, and well seasoned. The "hot sauce" was likely from a bottle and could have been left off. The radishes would have benefitted from being tossed in lemon, salt and pepper. The image of the "runny" egg was too much so I ate half the toast serving and meandered to the fries. Not bad, crispy , hot, and...wait...sweet...something is off, I can't put my finger on it but at least it's not a raw egg. I keep eating. My kids looks at me and says, "do these remind you of funnel cake?" THAT'S IT - FUNNEL CAKE. We have both had enough, ask for the check. The server comes by gives me the clunky machine, I tap and put it down, he reaches for it and I say, it's processing, I still have to sign...and then he starts snapping his fingers...WHAT IN THE ACTUAL €¥($ ARE WE DOING RIGHT NOW?!? Never again. Never, again.
