I personally had the Farmhouse Platter which had the best friend chicken I have ever had, amazing pork ribs, tasty sliders, and a delicious escabeche salad. My coleslaw was fresh but didn't have quite as much flavor. I still enjoyed it. I also tried their Maple Finished Bourbon which was very delicious! So much so that I got a bottle to bring home. Very reasonably priced for such a delicious bourbon! Our server Edgar was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and a true pleasure! Thank you Founding Father's for a great night! I have been to a Founding Farmers in a different state before. It was pretty good. This location in Foggy Bottom is cute. Parking is located on the street or public lots. You could also choose to take the metro in and walk. It is not a horrible walk, a few blocks. I highly recommend booking a reservation. We were seated within 10-15 minutes of our reservation. The food met all my expectations. The biscuits were fresh, and paired with jam. The bananas foster french toast was so sweet as to be expected, and so flavorful!. The thickness for the bread allowed for a soft center but a crispy exterior. But, my honestly my favorite was the blueberry pancakes really hit the spot. They may have been so simple but boy were they perfect. The breakfast tacos with the salsa also fantastic! That salsa was nice and thick and not watery. Our meals were great! No complaints. Our waitress was very attentive, and on top of things. She was always making sure we were taking care of. We really enjoyed our meal here and plan to return. read more

After the 'gaunlet' of hostess questioning whether we had a reservation (the restaurant was not crowded at all!) we were seated immediately. While many DC eateries can feel stuffy this dining room felt homely and welcoming with its wood decor and cabin vibe. We got into DC late after 9 hrs of traveling and were hungry! We left our hotel nearby and saw this place on the corner with the clever DC punny name. When we saw that 22k people decided to review and give it almost perfect scores we had to try it and so flag we did! We were sat immediately by the two friendly hostesses and our outstanding server Ricardo visited with us for a little before helping us breakdown the menu. I had a genuinely difficult time choosing a selection with the farm to table freshness making everything look so good! Ricardo made it clear he loves his job and the food and asked clarifying questions before we ordered our meal with crossed fingers. We landed on an incredible and well portioned burger with fries, the highly popular chicken and waffles, and my order of grilled catfish with cheese grits and fresh green beans. WOW...my catfish was grilled to perfection and had a mango pico on top for that sweet kick. The grits were cooked fantastic as well and came with a healthy (not really healthy probably but delicious) portion next to the freshest, sweetest, and best green beans I've had since my grandmothers off the farm in Tennessee! Finally the chicken and waffles were served with pasta style Mac and Cheese, green beans, two waffles and four pieces of fried chicken! I hate when chicken and waffles offer tenders and these four pieces were moist and lightly breaded rather than crunchy with batter. They melted in your mouth. At the End of the Day, when I travel, I tend to diversify my choices of where I eat and rarely go back. By sheer providence, Founding Farmers has delivered me from a 25-year confectionery melancholy brought on by the tragic decline of the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. Their house-made "knockoff" is, in fact, no knockoff at all. It is a triumph. The peanut butter, the chocolate, the texture. All of it now superier to what Reese's once was before its unfortunate descent into mediocrity. They also offer their own version of a Twix, which is just splendid. read more

We were seated 10 mins past our reservation time, but in a requested sunny outdoor space, on a rather nippy day in DC. Menu was all American comfort food, and our order consisted of Devil-ish Eggs ($12.99) and Chicken Pot Pie ($22.99). Food arrived within 15-mins of ordering, and while the service was quick, the food was just average. Nothing really stood out, other than the great service and friendly staff. Noise levels on the average end and easy to have conversations. Went to Founding Farmers DC for a small dinner with two friends connected to my company, Lesbifriends Travel, and it turned out to be a really great choice. I had not been here in years and now I am wondering why. First, the service. Our server Sanovia, who also goes by Snow, was amazing. Super friendly, personable, and attentive throughout the entire meal. She knew the menu well, made great recommendations, and checked on us just the right amount. Honestly, she made the experience. We shared several dishes including the mini spicy tuna wontons, balsamic bacon blue dates, and the grand meatball with stracciatella and basil. Everything came out well plated and perfect for sharing. Portion sizes were solid and the prices felt fair for DC. They also made it very easy to split the check so everyone could pay separately, which is something I always appreciate when dining with friends. The only thing that could have been slightly better was the cornbread, which I think would have been perfect if it had been cooked a little longer. Wow. This place was recommended to us by a staff member at the Hampton Inn White House. It was close to the hotel and we were seated quickly. I was so excited to try this place and it disappointed me. I had the ice tea and it definitely wasn't sweetened my friend had a soda that tasted like bleach. When you see the picture of our Cobb salad with crab you'll understand what I'm talking about, it had nothing on it ! Seriously it was lettuce with some crab and scallions. I received water and ordered a Clementine Cooler to start while I looked at the menu. I ordered Chicken Milanese. I've eaten the chicken and waffles and the chicken pot pie precious and both were good.The Clementine was too bitter to enjoy. I ended up asking for simple sugar to pour in. I started with a coffee at the bar while waiting to be seated, and it ended up being one of the best restaurant coffees I've ever had--rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. Once seated, our server was exceptionally patient as we took our time deciding what to order. Before going to the Potomac location 3 times in 2019-2020, I went to this location twice when I lived in northern VA in May 2014 & again in November 2015 I think. May 2014: I went to a dinner Meetup group here on a Monday as it was an opportunity to try Founding Farmers, and it did not disappoint! I got their iconic chicken & waffles with mac n' cheese & mashed potatoes. In 2025, it's much less common I eat this unhealthy, but it was delicious! Fresh juicy chicken, waffles with yummy syrup for the win. The service was good. As for this Meetup group, it was underwhelming. As I've said for years with Meetups that are dinner some where, it's hit or miss. Usually, it's going to be a long table (tables put together for a large group) as that's what's efficient at places. I was just at a birthday dinner yesterday, where someone said they like circular tables better as you can talk to everyone at the table, which I agree but added that the circular tables are less space efficient in a small restaurant although Founding Farmers is bigger, still not too practical. So, at a Meetup I'm stuck with the randomness of where I sit & others and stuck with whoever I'm near, and it's not always good. However, the positive was having the opportunity to try Founding Farmers. November 2015 (I think): I think it was when my parents visited me around Thanksgiving in 2015, but I may be wrong on the exact visit, but it was around this time. My parents read about Founding Farmers and knew they wanted to try. My dad was not happy with the service, and I think there was some extra charge on the bill he didn't like either but I don't recall exactly. Service was slow, and my dad had a swallowing problem and needed a lot of water, and the water refill situation was bad. In spite of those negatives, we did all enjoy our food. My mom & I chowed down, and my dad sadly took like 5x longer to eat, but it was the reality of the time. Morning brunch was on the mind when we made the trip to FFDC. Sadly, we missed the window and settled for normal lunch instead. Thankfully, the menu offered a great mix of options that all looked delicious. And from the many plates being served all around us, my wife and I were confident we wouldn't be disappointed. We ordered a butter honey cornbread to start, coupled with some mimosas (duh). Both were outstanding which were followed by our entrees which were rich with flavor, great portions, and were combined with a comfy atmosphere of chatter, music, and experienced bar tenders who absolutely make drinks to a high quality. While somewhat crowded, the service was exceptionally fast and on top of ensuring we were well taken care of. Our servers were so friendly, always smiling, and who recommended delicious drinks that met our needs of an early afternoon relaxer. I came for dinner after wandering around because I was really in the mood for mac and cheese, so I already knew I wanted the mac and cheese with ham and apples. By the time I got there, I wanted an appetizer too so I got mini tuna wontons as well. The tuna wontons were alright, though not my favorite. The wontons themselves were good but there was something in the flavor profile that was a little sweet-ish to me that wasn't my favorite. The mac and cheese was good as well and I enjoyed the ham and apple addition, but the cheese sauce was a little plain itself. The bartender took our drink order quickly which surprised me because it was busy. The drinks arrived PDQ. Tables seemed to be turning quickly so when the bartender asked if we wanted food we turned him down. We had arrived hungry so we gave him our orders the next time he asked. I got meatloaf with mashed potatoes & green beans. She ordered goat cheese ravioli with chicken cutlet. The food came fairly quickly hot from the kitchen. The meatloaf was very good, the green beans still had crunch. The white sauce was mild. My friend said the ravioli was very good and that the chicken was tender and juicy. We ordered the crab Benedict, which was delicious, the crab flavor was just right and didn't overpower the eggs at all. Everything blended nicely.
