We did not eat at this establishment, but came to view one of the 2 last standing windmills in Monmatre. Thus windmill has been painted by Renoir, Van Gogh, and Picasso. The windmill was built in 1622 and used to grind flour. Conflicts in 1814 and again in 1870 saw 2 killed and nailed to the wings of this windmill. Follow down the winding street to catch a glimpse of the other windmill, Moulin du Radet, built in 1717. Stroll down to 52 Rue Lepic, the home van Gogh resided in for 2 years with his art dealer brother. read more

Very Frenchie in the heart of montmartre. It has a windmill and outdoor seating out of a postcard, Any questions? Besides Ala carte they have a pre- fix menu. $39 for appetizer, entree and dessert, $31 without the appetizer. The ones we like were the: onion soup, foei gras, duck confit and steak au poivre(chef suggested- not on the menu). The lamb was ok. You can skip the coq au vin. Ambiance is of an older French restaurant of good quality. Tables do end up quite close together but food is really good. I had dinner here and it was pretty underwhelming. I started with the fried shrimp which I didn't realize was just shrimp tempura. It was too salty and too greasy. It was also mostly just breading. The coq au vin wasn't much better. The pasta it came in was overcooked and mushy. The chicken was dry which is strange because it's cooked in a soup. The chocolate mousse was ok but way too sweet and felt powdery on my tongue which made me think it was a packaged, easy to make mousse. They were very accommodating and found a seat for us right next to the window. We spent a lot of time trying to figure out why so many people were staring in -seemingly at us. Then we realized this was a famous restaurant and on all the tours. Pretty cool to have dined at the same place as so many of the most famous artists in all of history. The food also hit the spot after our long flight from Minnesota. We were trying to push through the jet lag so lots of tea and coffee and some French food really helped. After walking by this restaurant we really wanted to eat at the same place that was painted in Renoirs painting of the same name. The interior is nice but looks nothing like the painting. It was a pretty good meal, I thought they could have used more seasoning. Nevertheless it was an experience for us as Moulin de la Galette is one of our favourite paintings and we even have a replica of it in our house. We ordered the frog leafs, beef Bourgignon, French onion soup, fish and duck confit dishes. I would say the fish was the best, then French onion soup, duck confit, beef bourgignon and frog legs. Service was pretty good. For those that complained about lack of service, my observation in France has been that lots of patrons like to lounge for long hours at restaurants and cafes so waiters may be leaving customers alone so they don't feel pressured to leave. We didn't have reservation and they told us we just had to be done by 7:30, which was easily done. For appetizer, we had burrata with egg and mushrooms, which was tasty. Nice and earthy. For main, my wife (vegetarian) had the mushroom pasta, which was tasty but a bit repetitive from the appetizer. I had the lamb, which hit the spot perfectly, as I wanted something traditionally French. We didn't get dessert and just had a glass of wine. Service was great and everything was clean. Absolutely loved the food and unique mix of flavors, as well as the incredibly fun atmosphere! We coincidentally visited during the Rugby World Cup, and most of the guests that day were supporting Ireland's team. Their enthusiasm and singing were contagious and made for a unique dining experience. The woman who welcomed us was rude and initially told us we couldn't dine there because they were full. We verified online and were able to secure a reservation an hour later. She said we were being sneaky (???) for trying to dine with them again, but apologized after we showed her the reservation confirmation. This was so unpleasant that we almost cancelled, but we didn't because we were hungry and already waited a long time. The reason for the high stars is because the food was truly delicious, our waitress was wonderful, and that particular day was very entertaining as the Irish team fans sang and celebrated. (I don't currently follow rugby, but this was entertaining.) A particular highlight was the ceviche, which was interestingly paired with sorbet (!), pickled red onion, paprika, blueberries and raspberry, and other spices. This combination seemed strange, but it was my absolute favorite dish in all of the places we visited in Paris! Truly memorable. read more

We were warned not to dine in Montmartre because all of the restaurants are tourist traps. We saw the Michelin Guide approval sticker and it looked fairly classy, so we did not heed our hotel's warning and ate here anyways. A total mistake. The red flags ... a prixe fixe menu, a sign out front giving the history of windmills and every other diner being British or American or Chinese. Also the waiter offered us a menu which had cheeseburgers listed on it when we said that the prixe fixe 3 courses might be too much food. Cheeseburgers and fine French dining usually dont go hand in hand. We sat outside in a fairly tacky patio area complete with multi-colored Christmas lights which had an oddly California type of vibe. The diners were all well dressed, probably because of the prices. The food, we both agreed, tasted like wedding food or casino buffet food. No love went into the preparation or ingredients. The duck a la orange was rubbery and overcooked. It tasted like someone had put in on a BBQ grill and left it too long. (We were told it was served 'rare and pink ... or cooked through'. I opted for cooked through as pink duck is horrifying.) The sauce was bland, watery and contained what looked like canned mandarin orange segments. In addition, it came with a potato cake which was raw in the middle and burned black on the edges. It lacked any sort of taste beyond starchy raw potato. The beef borginone came in its own pot and was basically a chewy cheap cut of meat which tasted like pot roast you had at a friend's house growing up. Again, a watery sauce that in no way resembled fine French cooking. It was more like a stew prepared in a big batch and ladeled out through the night. The chocolate mousse was brought to the table in a giant bowl by the water and scooped out and literally thrown from the spoon onto the plate in messy heaps. It looked like dog poo ... this was among the worst presentations I've ever seen in a restaurant. The strawberry dessert was simply whipped cream, dry strawberries and a small merengue. The waitstaff was friendly enough because clearly they cater to Americans and Brits, so they don't have that typical French attitude towards tourists. But overall, we felt like we were at a wedding and received food prepared in big batches with inexpensive ingredients and doled out vs. made to order. You'd be much better off going to the main street in Montmartre than this place. While the atmosphere was nice, the food quality was subpar for France and I felt if I was at a banquet hall in New Jersey or Kansas, I could have received the same quality. We felt as though we ruined our first night out in Paris by going here. read more

First meal in Paris and it was yummy. I was nervous to order a steak because I do not enjoy my meat with blood. While the waitress did look flabbergasted at my request, she did not give me a hard time and the chef cooked it beautifully. Great flavor and tender chew. We went inside and stood at the door waiting for someone to come over or to seat us because we didn't know whether to seat ourselves or not. We finally walked over to two men and asked if we seated ourselves and they said yes and we asked if we could sit outside and they said yes. Came here for my birthday in Montmartre- a bit touristy but cool enough to not skip over it. Very close to Sacré Cœur and has a gorgeous exterior with the windmill. The bœuf bourguignon was good and I heard good reviews about the fish as well. The set menu is a ton of food! The crème brûlée was sadly burnt on the bottom but the top and the middle tasted good. We were looking for a nice restaurant in Paris, last minute on a Sunday night. It turns out that a fair amount of restaurants close early, so we were happy to find that the windmill restaurant was open late. The one caveat is that the garden terrace closes at 10:30 to accommodate the neighbors and keep the noise down, we finished our meal and we're able to have our dessert and coffee in the front of the restaurant. So firstly, if you haven't been to this neighbor in Paris, it's definitely worth a trip. There are bars and restaurants all over as you wind up the hill toward the basilica, Sacré-Cœur. After dining it's quite a short walk to check out the church and there's another little neighborhood of restaurants and bars with open air seating just up the hill, a great place to have a drink or two and people watch. Back to the restaurant and food. It was simply terrific. Many options, Fresh flavors. I had the lamb which was terrific, they recommended to eat it "rare" which was honestly more rare than in my comfort zone, but it was great. I try to be super open-minded about food when I travel and asked the server what's the best way to eat the lamb. read more

Stuffed toy animals and fake plants, it was just weird. The service was not good, not bad just ok. The menu states you get entree, main and dessert for €39, that was not the case. We were charged double that amount. We barely ate our food, it was absolutely disgusting. My girlfriend got the mussels that looked like they were cooked in water not wine, they had no flavor. I forgot what I got, maybe the beef, but I just remember it was dry with no flavor. We got the check before dessert and went to grab food elsewhere. This was the last night for my family and I in Paris. After researching a few places I came across Moulin. I made last minute reservations for five. The area is beyond amazing. When we arrived we were treated and greeted nicely. The food and the service was superb. We enjoyed our meal immensely. We speak two languages Spanish and English, I must say the servers were patient with us and they spoke English to us. It was a perfect way to end our last day in Paris. This is my first time in Paris so I decided to check out a drawing tour. The guide ended the tour at the windmill and I was intrigued by its history. I also happened to be hungry. I usually don't expect much from touristy restaurants but I was super impressed by Le Moulin. They have a lot of English-speaking waiters so ordering was super easy and straightforward. I was surprised by how good the service was. They actually smiled a lot and were all super nice even though I'm a stupid American and forgot to say bonjour monsieur when I first came in. I ordered the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and creme brûlée. Both were amazing. This was definitely the best meal I've ever had in Paris. The chicken was crunchy on the outside and not dry at all because it's sitting on top of a puddle of super delicious sauce. The mashed potatoes were so much better than most thanksgiving mashed potatoes I've had in America. I didn't want to order dessert because I'm not a huge fan of sweets but I had to pick either appetizer/entree or entree/dessert. I was expecting the creme brûlée to be way too sweet but it was actually not bad. Probably the most tolerable creme brûlée I've ever had. Again, I'm don't like sweets that much so I'm sure most people would love it. It's a little pricey but when you're in Paris you just have to yolo a bit. read more

As we were walking back to our car we passed Le Moulin de la Galette as we had so many times before. As a spur of the moment thing, we stuck our head in to find there was no wait time, and we were pleasantly surprised to be seated immediately. The ambiance was incredibly delightful... cheerful and fun. The menu gave us a variety of wonderful options. Our server was knowledgeable and helpful and charming. Our food was perfect... delicious! I had the deep fried king prawns with sweet chili sauce and they were eye rolling good as was the sea bass. My wife had the filet cooked to perfection and so tender a knife was barely needed. I have been trying the chicken dishes here in Paris during my two week stay because I've been told French chickens taste better than what we typically eat in the US. The chicken here was very good. Lovely knowledgeable staff, relaxed & comfortable interior with larger tables, good space between them and plush comfortable chairs. We did a tour from Paris Walks of Montmartre, that I highly recommend, then we made reservations for a relaxed lunch. It was a perfect end to a perfect day.
