Simply put... the food was awesome. This is definitely a place to check out if in the Sacre Coeur neighborhood. First off, this was part of a trip the wife and I took to Paris, so no kids. Like most of the Parisian places we've been, I don't think this place is super kid friendly, though you could make do if your kids are very well behaved. That being said, the food at this place is just top flight relative to the price. I will note that all of the places in the area had a fly problem when we went, due to the heat and conditions (this was the high 80s low 90s temp week in June). After initially sitting inside, we shifted to outside and were very happy. The service was solid and had timely check in to see if we needed anything or how the meal was progressing. My favorite part about this place was the 22€ steak meal (see picture). The overall cost with a bottle of wine was not bad at all and the taste of the food was very good, even in the oppressive heat. This place is definitely worth checking out and I'd strongly recommend. read more

Good. But not worth going out of your way. I made reservations based on the great reviews and traveled in from the airport Hilton. After an amazing late afternoon roaming Montmarte streets I finally got to this place. It was supposed to be closed till 7pm. But when I arrived early, all of the tables outside were already full. I made my reservations at 7pm and arrived early specifically so I could sit outside as first to arrive. So I sat inside. The food was very good. I got the beef. Pomme frites were amazing. I left without dessert because I did not want to sit there anymore. As a solo person, sitting outside is more fun! Also, WiFi doesn't work because "walls are too thick." I didn't mind, but be aware if that is something you really need. Next time I will just stop and eat at a place I see with more atmosphere. No need for reservations here, other than the outside tables being full, inside was almost empty. If you have a dinner partner it will be better. Quiet and away from charismatic crowds. Also, the front table has access to a power outlet which was much appreciated for recharging my phone! read more

We had an amazing meal here on our last night in Paris. We loved every dish. The appetizers were poached egg in morel mushroom cream, razor clams, and ratatouille. My husband and I and our two kids ate it all up. Our entrees were steak for 2 (it could easier be for 3) and pork ribs for my son (12 y.o.) who couldn't finish. Desserts were crème brûlée and raspberry mousse. They were all super delicious. Our waiter was prompt and friendly. It is a small place and they start taking reservations over the phone at 5:30pm. I didn't have a reservation and they were booked up for the night (so make sure to call for a reservation ahead of time) but I was offered the option to eat at the bar. Prices were very reasonable considering the quality of the food. Portion sizes were good - I didn't leave hungry. I started off with a glass of champagne, and then moved on to the poached eggs in morel mushroom cream. It was so good that I couldn't help moaning with food-delight while I devoured it. I usually try to avoid bread, but by the time I was done with the eggs and mushrooms, there was no way I was letting any of the sauce escape my belly and I heartily sopped it up with the bread. Next was the lamb tounedos and garlic cream, accompanied by mashed potatoes. It was perfectly cooked, and absolutely scrumptious. If you're in Paris, you can't miss this place. While staying in Brussels for a few days, I decided to take a train to Paris for a day. It was a busy day seeing all the "tourist" sites and I developed quite an appetite having only snacked throughout the day. I wanted to find a restaurant close to the train station in the Montmartre area as this is where I was ending the day. An online search lead me to La Vache et Le Cuisinier. I got there when it opened and was immediately seated. My friend and I decided to order a few starters and one main dish. We got the morel mushrooms with cream sauce and poached egg, foie gras, and lentil salad for appetizers, and the entrecôte steak for the main. Everything we ordered was delicious. My favorite was the foie gras. It was served with caramelized sweet onions with sliced up French baguette. Wow, it was amazing. The service was also amazing. The waiter was very friendly, incredibly efficient, and spoke perfect English. They also have wi-fi and free clean bathrooms (both a must when traveling in Europe). What a nice, hidden gem in Montmatre. Great bistro food at reasonable prices. We ordered the stuffed rabbit and the beef entrecote. The rabbit was very flavorful and a great example of authentic French cuisine. The beef was cooked a perfect medium rare and the accompanying french fries were delicious. The service was really friendly too. There was a nice neighborhood feel to the place. Perhaps most importantly, the majority of the patrons were local French folks. I think we were the only tourists in the whole restaurant - nice validation for the quality of the food here. Note that the restaurant is quite small and intimate. So, I'd highly recommend making reservations before coming here. Otherwise, you might be in for a long wait. read more

Absolutely fantastic experience to close out a trip to Paris with family (wife, baby, 8 year-old, and mom). Friendly staff and patrons, accommodating of our party (including a mid-meal dash to toilet for diaper change), and most importantly, by far the most delectable food we had in Paris. We sampled everything from oxtail to quail to sea bass, and there wasn't a single even average dish among them. I was expecting a great meal but was sadly disappointed. Seating was easy despite no reservation was made. The staff was friendly and helpful. I ordered the beef served with a bernaise like sauce. The meat was done medium rare as requested but had this strange taste to it that was not related to the seasoning or lack there of. To detract from the strange taste I needed to slather on the sauce to mellow it out. If the sauce was good that might have helped. I could not finish it. My husband ordered the pork in a sweet cherry like sauce with the meat well done as suggested. It was done so well that the meat was actually tough. On the other hand, the sauce served with it was a great compliment. He had a glass of wine that was recommended to accompany his dish which was well chosen by the wait person. I love the ambiance and the guy working the floor was amazing. I have no idea how he stayed up on all of the tables as well as he did. We started with the foie. The onion compote that comes with it was the saving grace in an otherwise okay foie. I got the rabbit and my husband the quail. I preferred the quail to the rabbit. The rabbit loin was very chewy and dry but the sausage around it was quite tasty. The mashed potatoes were decent and the veggies were as well. We ended with the creme brulee, which was very good. Overall, if this spot was in the US I would say it was great but compared to other close spots in Montmartre, the food itself just was not as good for me personally. read more

This restaurant is an absolute gem. We walked in with no reservation and were accommodated immediately. They are very good at managing customers who don't have reservations but agree to come back in a bit (though we were seated right away). The staff is very warm, and the ambience is smooth with jazz playing on the speakers and an old Parisian speakeasy feel in the space. The food is delicious, but I should mention that there isn't a vegetarian option. There was one fish dish and the rest of the menu was dairy and red-meat heavy, but it is called The Cow and the Chef! If you're looking for a steak cooked medium well, request it well done (the French like their meat bloody). The wine selection is very satisfactory and the desserts are a crown jewel to a meal. My sister got the creme brûlée with Madagascar vanilla and I got the chocolate fondant with homemade cream. Both were to die for. Save room for dessert! The only downsides would be the lack of a healthier option, and also, in true French style, the experience is slow and the food does take a bit of a while to come out (though worth it), so if you're in a hurry, this is not the place for you, but if you want to enjoy an authentic, French meal and relax in true Parisian style, then this is the restaurant for you. 5/5 - I am definitely returning read more

Our hotel recommended this restaurant and when we walked in and saw the other Americans there I thought we'd been had, but I was wrong. Several local people came and met or brought friends. The owners were so accommodating and recommended great wine. I even switched my order and it was no problem. The food was delicious. The egg and mushroom starter is a life changer. We were staying at an apartment just a couple doors down. Our host had recommended this place and so we decided to give it a try and we were not disappointed. All I have to say is that the French really know how to grill their meat. Everything was great and I thought the portions and prices were really quite reasonable for Paris. The service was a bit slow, but there was only one server. The food was fresh and homey.
