We were seeking a lunch stop in Rumford, on our way to Rangeley. Dick's turned out to be perfect. It was a classic local diner that I'm guessing has been there a long time. It felt like we dropped into a fun slice of Americana. Many locals were in there. Our waitress couldn't have been more pleasant. I ordered a triple decker tuna sandwich with onion rings. The sandwich was huge & quite tasty. The onion rings were your average rings. I haven't been in a place like this in decades. First of all, let me start by saying that the service was excellent! Literally one of the best waitresses I've ever dealt with in all of my years, and I am in the business and I notice everything! I wish I could remember her name! She was bling with tattoos on her arm and didn't need a pad of paper for our order! The food was some of the worst food I've ever had in my life! The eggs were really good, but how do you go wrong with eggs? The problem wasn't how the food was made. It was that it was the cheapest food they could possibly have bought. I got steak and eggs, and the steak was all fat and gross even to look at and it tasted like hepatitis! The home fries were so dry that I couldn't even swallow them with water! Muffin was something out of a Third World country, but it was possible so I used it to my eggs. My friend got french fries and a sandwich and his food was perfect. It was just a breakfast food that was problematic. I literally put my sausage links and steak on the side and told the waitress to please take it home to her dog or give it to a local dog, if they would eat it. The water was delicious! Very very cold and just pure and delicious. Again, the service was excellent, so I'm sorry, but I hope somebody sees this before they choose to go there for breakfast in this little town. Obviously I did a food search days before our trip up to Byron, ME to see the eclipse, this place had few reviews but good ones. It was a little diner so my expectations weren't too high, but I was wrong. The menu was a little all over the place but there was something for everyone on it and everyone was happy. Quickly I was greeted by a polite man behind the counter, who wrote my family order quickly and efficiently, I didn't have to repeat anything. And it was obvious that they had just been slammed by people who were doing the same thing I was doing up there. The kitchen was open concept, and there was perfect communication between him and his kitchen staff. But would really blew my mind was how clean it was in that kitchen. The floor was immaculate. The countertops were shiny and wiped down. The glass coolers had gunk buildup in them or on the doors, everything was properly labeled. I don't think I've ever seen the kitchen, so clean, not even my own. Lol I took some pictures of it, and I heard a waitress wearing red pants from behind the counter say "why does she keep taking pictures?" Then she kept giving me a little bit of a snarky look, but I think they thought I thought it was messy. I even commented to the man who took my order before I left that the kitchen was immaculate and he said "I'm sorry for the mess. We just got a huge rush." I couldn't believe he thought it was messy at all. Lol! My 11yr old got a 7" pepperoni pizza, the sauce was amazing, it wasn't really a rich sauce, but it was more bright and sweet. Despite having a wonderful amount of cheese crust was perfectly cooked through and crispy on the bottom. My 4yr old got a chicken, nugget basket, and his french fries were ridiculous! And I don't know where they get their sweet-and-sour sauce from it was different than any other kind I've had. VERY good. My husband got a steak and cheese, the cheese could've been melted more, but he loved it anyway and didn't even come up for air. He rarely will finish a sandwich in one sitting, but that one didn't stand a chance. I got their taco wrap, it was noted as one of their restaurant favorites, so I figured I would give it a try. It was simple and perfect. It was like eating a taco. My mother would've made me but in a wrap. And I loved every bit of it. Not only was the food delicious and fast, all of that cost me under $35. So I tipped the kitchen $10. This is a great spot and if I'm ever up that way again, I plan to stop in. read more

This place was awesooooome !!! We stopped here on our way home from a Byron camp trip! The food was amazingly delicious and at 1990s prices. Wish I'd taken a photo of the menu prices ! We were not sure of the place because of the outside, but I'm so glad we went in. The sign said seat yourself at a clean table ! That we did! It was all women it seemed working the floor and working the line. The food came out quick and it seemed homemade! The only thing I would have changed, was to have maple syrup for my French toast. The place was cute and rather large inside when you see it from outside! If you're in the area, swing through. Worth every penny and not too many pennies at that!! read more

Plenty of seating inside. Waitstaff was very friendly and efficient. We went there for breakfast. Coffee was perfect. Breakfast came out really fast. My only complaint, if you want to call it that, was the hollandaise sauce was lacking real flavor. I don't think it's always that way but today it was. Everything else was gear. I got what I was expecting as far as a classic diner feel. I liked that the kitchen was right there up front and in the open, no hiding anything from your customers. It was nice hearing the communication between the wait staff and kitchen, it was friendly and upbeat. And the service from Brittany was stellar. People with her attitude are an absolute blessing on the world. Everyone was nice and positive, and it's that kind of thing that can really leave the best impressions. I hope if you try this place out that it's as great for you as it was for me. I ordered a pretty standard classic scramble and coffee, and it was great, no complaints there. Dick's in Mexico is a mainstay on the main drag passing through town (that would be US Route 2). Since Mexico is one gateway to the western mountains and places like Rangeley and the surrounding lakes and mountains, Dick's is a place to stop in for a quick bite, or a full dinner. I've been coming to Dick's since I discovered it while taking photos for my first book, "When Towns Had Teams" and had stopped by Hosmer Field with my photographer, Forrest Hartley, to get shots of the old wooden grandstand behind home plate. This morning, it was a pit stop for coffee and homemade blueberry pie on my way to Rangeley via the Height of the Land and Route 17. When in Mexico, make a point of visiting Dick's. It's also where the locals hang out and you pick up news you wouldn't anywhere else. read more

Dicks Restaurant is a gem!! I've been going there for years and have no idea how or why I never gave it a yelp review. So here it is. First and foremost. This establishment has a soft spot in my heart. My dad and I would go there every time I'd go back home ( Rumford ) for a visit. It was our spot .. we'd grab breakfast , consume about 10 cups of coffee and catch up with each other. There were even days we'd get breakfast and then even go back later in the day for supper! That's how Bachelors Roll ! Anyways.. my dad loved the food, the price of food and the staff that works there. I can also say. The waitstaff loved my dad... unfortunately.. my dad passed away but I carry on our traditional breakfast meals and coffee when I still home back to visit family and friends. On a side note.. many of the wait staff went to my dads funeral and still tell me how much they loved him and miss him when I stop by... and now on to the food.... the food is home cooked!! It's delicious!! I've never had a bad meal there !! The proportions are good sized!! You definitely get your money's worth !! This place could charge double there price if they were located in Portland or southern Maine! The desserts are out of this world!! It's a very family friendly restaurant and everyone is always nice. The locals in Rumford are good people! So I highly advise you to stop by Dicks Restaurant if you're ever in the Rumford/Mexico area! You won't be disappointed!! No other way to say it ... is is what it is ... what do you expect from a humble little mill town? Food is standard, the restaurant is dated but the waitstaff is very friendly. It has been years since I had been here (honestly about 15) and I'm not sure much has changed. For the price you are getting a decent meal, but don't expect anything crazy hella good. Took some of my clients out there for lunch. A very local establishment, and offered some decent home cooked soups and sandwiches. The wait staff was great, certainly seemed to me like they had been there for some time, and new the locals there. If you happen to be in Mexico, not a bad place to go. I would go back. read more

I may be slightly generous with a two-star review. The two stars are; 1 star for having a relaxed, comfortable environment. The other for waitstaff being courteous and on their game. The only other enjoyable aspect of our meal was the soda. After being out-of-state with Military for the last 10 years we, my wife and kids wanted a meal from "home", sadly this was disappointing. I ordered a steak and potatoes. My wife and 1 daughter ordered Chicken Strips. My other daughter ordered a Cheese Burger with fries. My steak tasted badly freezer burned. And potatoes tasted watery. The 2 chicken meals tasted grisly, rubbery, freezer burned, water logged. The cheese burger meal tasted badly freezer burned, dried out, over cooked. Upon leaving our assumptions were all foods were frozen, and most likely cooked by microwave (as we ate a few bites but leaving the majority behind) joking about the microwave cooking. However, as we walked out, i made a point to watch the staff a moment and our "assumptions " was spot on! I/we counted at least 6 microwaves and staff attempt to cook in them!! Yikes! It explains EVERYTHING! This also makes my assumptions as this food is crazy expensive. For microwaved food should be a fraction of the prices paid as my children could have pulled off a full course meal for all 4 of us at a much cheaper price!! Will not eat here again unless i hear that an actual stove, grill, oven or the like is used to cook! Chef Ramsey would have a field day here, most likely he'd die of a coronary knowing microwaves do the cooking... Lmao Good luck to the owner and staff, great location and could definitely get more business if cooking were actually done. read more
