Last time I was at Ala Moana in February of 2010, I looked for Dippin Dots, and it was gone. Lost, like flavorful, tiny colored particles that drifted out into deep space, never to be seen again. But as Gomer Pyle would say, "Surprise, Surpirse, Surprise"! Here they are in Little Rock, Arkansas! It is sort of hard to find, as it is in the Park Plaza midtown mall, somwhere up on the third level, just under the huge glass ceiling of that mall, tucked in one of the crossing paths. It was more like a small amusement park cart/kiosk than an Ice Cream store. If you have never had Dippin' Dots, they are tiny little balls of Ice Cream, kept very cold, and about the size of very small BBs. Eating them is a different experience, because not until you put them into your warm mouth do they heat up some and start to melt in your mouth to create the creaminess and flavor of the ice cream. Before that transformation, it is a little bit like eating tiny styrofoam pellets....but I enjoyed them, especially on a hot Arkansas day, where the humidity was high and the heat was over 100 degrees! Cookies and cream and mint chocolate were good flavors!

Now, this wonderful little coffee shop tucked into the old post office still sells coffee beans and classic coffee, but seems to have less of a bean sales area. Comfy, cozy, eclectic, and a staple of the Hillcrest area, River City Coffee continues to be a wonderful spot to grab coffee locally. The baristas were friendly and quick with our orders, and a refill for a simple hot coffee was also very quick. My latte was fresh (definitely not a place I had to worry about a dead shot of espresso!) and delicious. Mom's mocha was delightful, and she enjoyed the warm ceramic mug almost as much as the coffee inside- there's just something about being able to wrap your hands around a mug on a cold morning! This Dairy Queen Grill & Chill is located next door to a CVS (in a separate plaza with its own…read moreparking lot). Since yesterday was free cone day and the first day of spring (Dairy Queen typically has free cone day every year in March), my husband, our little girl dog and I wanted to take advantage of the special. We decided to pick this location since we were nearby. We came in around 2:45 pm and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't busy inside (although there was a small line in the drive thru). We only had one party ahead of us. The girl at the counter asked us how many cones would we like, we just told her 2 but I guess if we wanted more, we could have as many as we wanted. We waited about 2 minutes for our ice cream cones and then went outside to share our ice cream with our little girl dog. I love that there is a covered, dog friendly seating available here. We (including our little girl) enjoyed our ice cream (who cares that it was cold outside, lol). Overall, we had a good experience and would most likely frequent this location if we lived in the area.
